The Márquez Family
The wealthy and handsome son of Rafael Márquez and Isabel Navarro, he is the heir and eventual owner of Velvet. Alberto struggles to maintain the store's prestige and profitability amidst his own personal dramas. He has been in love with Ana Ribera since they were children, both growing up at Velvet, but circumstances keep them apart. He is supportive of Ana's dream of becoming a fashion designer and often offers Velvet as a launchpad for her career.
- Benevolent Boss: Alberto cares deeply about Velvet and its employees.
- Berserk Button: Do not insult Ana in front of him or threaten his beloved store.
- Break Her Heart to Save Her: Alberto makes a lot of sacrifices to protect Ana and by extension, Velvet, even when it means the two can no longer be together. First, Alberto marries Cristina and tries to make the marriage work, because Cristina's money saves Velvet from financial ruin. Then, when Cristina reveals Ana's pseudonym and her relationship with Alberto, he leaves Spain so Ana can recover from the scandal and build her career.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: After many ups and downs, with both Ana and Velvet itself, Alberto and Ana finally marry in the series finale. She is now a successful fashion designer, he also has a successful atelier in New York, and they can finally be together.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Mateo, his best friend and business partner.
- Interclass Romance: Alberto is a wealthy businessman from a prestigious family while Ana is humble seamstress who works at his store.
- Put on a Bus: For the back end of season 3 and most of season 4, Alberto is written off the show due to the actor's other commitments.
- Reports Of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated: In Season 3, Alberto leaves Spain to help Ana avoid scandal. At the last minute, he boards a different flight without telling anyone of his new plans. Meanwhile, everyone thinks he was on the flight that crashed and that he is dead for the next five years. During the time he is away, Alberto sends letters to Velvet but they are intercepted by a jealous Carlos.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: With Ana. Despite their Childhood Marriage Promise, the road to romance is not easy for these two.
- Unwanted Spouse: With Cristina. Alberto spends most of their marriage trying to divorce her.
The spoiled and beautiful daughter of Rafael Márquez and Gloria Campos de Márquez, Patricia uses her charms and cunning to get what she wants. Originally, she is seen as a shallow young woman who aids Pilar in her schemes to wrest Velvet from Alberto's control and whose only value is related to her ownership stake in Velvet. As the series progresses, Patricia breaks from her mother's control and becomes an intelligent businesswomen in her own right, although she retains her devious streak.
- A Deadly Affair: In season 3, Patricia marries Valentin Alcocer but continues to have an affair with Enrique Ortegui. In season 4, she and Enrique agree to murder Valentin so they can be together, as in Francoist Spain, Patricia cannot easily get a divorce without enduring a lot of scandal.
- Alpha Bitch: Especially in the early seasons, Patricia is haughty, stuck up, and eager to help her mother sabotage Alberto in order to take over the company.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Serves as this to Alberto.
- Break the Haughty: As punishment for her overspending, Patricia is forced to become a salesgirl at Velvet and live off of her commissions. Although humiliating at first, working at the store gives her a greater understanding of the business. Later, when Alberto kicks her out of the family home, she tries to stay with friends but they all turn her down for one flimsy reason or another, causing her to realize that she has no true friends.
- Dumb Blonde: Subverted. Patricia can certainly play dumb when the situation calls for it, but she is a lot smarter than she is given credit for.
- Expository Hairstyle Change: In the final season, after the five year time skip, Patricia is now a redhead instead of a platinum blonde.
- The Fashionista: She is gorgeous and well-dressed, as befitting the heir of one of Spain's premier fashion houses. She is miserable when she briefly dresses in conservative, dowdy clothes to win over Valentin Alocer's mother.
- Gold Digger: She flirts with and eventually marries Valentin Alcocer because his family owns and operates many diamond and precious stone mines, in order to secure their business partnership for the burgeoning Velvet jewelry line that she is spearheading. Additionally, the Marquez family fortune has severely dwindled after keeping Velvet from the brink of bankruptcy multiple times. Ironically, Valentin's mines were not doing as well as Patricia had thought and he was marrying her for her money as well! (Later, both of their businesses recover.)
- Good Bad Girl: Initially, she is Alberto's antagonist but eventually mellows out that while she is no angel (manipulating, cheating, taking delight in the misfortune of others), she cares about Velvet's success and does her part to maintain it.
- Hidden Depths: Despite Alpha Bitch exterior, Patricia is actually a lonely person. As noted above, she doesn't have any friends that she could count on in her time of need, her mothers uses her as a pawn against her brother, and her brother hates her and distrusts her attempts to help the company. Before she marries Valentin, she cries to Jonas that she's afraid no one truly loves her and she almost becomes a Runaway Bride, when she tells her mother that she can't marry someone she doesn't love. She is also devastated when she thinks Alberto is dead. Additionally, when she discovers she is pregnant, she calls off her affair with Enrique and attempts to recommit herself to Valentin.
- Inadequate Inheritor: Alberto views her as this, even after she makes a Heel–Face Turn and does her part to boost Velvet's business. Also, in season 4, after Valentin's death, his mother attempts to cut Patricia out of the will by accusing her of infidelity. In Francoist Spain, this was a serious accusation and Patricia faced not only being disinherited, but possibly facing prison time.
- Karma Houdini: She and Enrique are never convicted of Valentin's murder and it's ambiguous whether Valentin's mother succeeded at cutting Patricia out of Valentin's will. The series finale shows her and Enrique kissing in front of her home and agreeing to be a couple.
- Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: In season 4, Patricia is pregnant and decides to pass the baby's as Valentin's, but the drama surrounding the paternity is resolved by a Convenient Miscarriage.
- The Mistress: Enrique cheats on his wife with her.
- Rich Bitch: Played straight.
- Sibling Rivalry: She and Alberto compete for control of Velvet and eventually, she stops fighting him. In the series finale, they have a small moment of reconciliation.
The father of Alberto and Patricia, he a self-made man who came from humble beginnings to create Velvet, one of Spain's premier fashion houses. He is a distant and cold father and husband, but an excellent businessman.
- Archnemesis Dad: Played with. Rafael tries to keep Alberto from uniting with Ana and keep him focused on the family business, much to Alberto's frustration.
- Ambition Is Evil: He built Velvet from the ground up, but in the process, made some very cruel choices.
- Benevolent Boss: Played with. The Velvet employees are extremely loyal to the Marquez family and to the store, indicating that Rafael must be a good employer if not the kindest. But when grooming Alberto to be his successor, Rafeael is much harsher.
- Interclass Romance: With his first wife, Isabel. She was also a seamstress and their romance is a bit of a parallel to Alberto and Ana's, although Rafael wasn't super successful yet.
- Self-Made Man: He started Velvet when he had nothing and built it into one of Spain's premier fashion houses.
- Spiteful Suicide: After Alberto informs Rafael that he will renounce his inheritance in order to be with Ana, Rafael kills himself, forcing Alberto to assume ownership of the store and halt his relationship with Ana in order to focus on the store's future.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Although he expects Alberto to inherit Velvet, he rarely praises or encourages him. He is also distant with Patricia and sees her nothing more than a spoiled brat.
