Alberto struggles to maintain the store's prestige and profitability amidst his own personal dramas. He has been in love with Ana Ribera since they were children, both growing up at Velvet, but circumstances keep them apart. To save Velvet from financial ruin, he reluctantly marries Cristina Oretegui, which he greatly regrets and he then uses great efforts to null his marriage to Cristina and reunite with Ana. He is supportive of Ana's dream of becoming a fashion designer and often offers Velvet as a launchpad for her career.

The spoiled and beautiful daughter of Rafael Marquez and Gloria Campos de Marquez, Patricia uses her charms and cunning to get what she wants. Originally, she is seen as a shallow young woman who aids Pilar in her schemes to wrest Velvet from Alberto's control and whose only value is related to her ownership stake in Velvet. As the series progresses, Patricia breaks from her mother's control and becomes an intelligent businesswomen in her own right, although she retains her devious streak.
