Valkyria Chronicles 4 Characters
Atlantic Federation: Squad E ( Tank Commanders | Scouts | Shocktroopers | Lancers | Engineers | Snipers | Grenadiers ) | Federation Navy
East Europan Imperial Alliance: X-0

Snipers in general

  • Boom, Headshot!: Snipers deal massive amounts of damage to enemies if they can score headshots. It doesn't work if the enemy is entrenched behind sandbags, though.
  • Glass Cannon: Snipers are capable of decimating infantry if they can consistently score headshots. However they also have very low HP and wear light armor. If they are not on perches or well protected by other classes, a flanking enemy will make very short work of them.
  • One-Hit Kill: The class really shines at oneshotting in a single command all but the furthest away, most armored or entrenched infantry.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • In the original VC, Snipers were incapable of intercept fire even when levelled up to Elite status. Now they can, which allow them to act as sentries, especially when stationed in lookout towers.
    • They outclass Lancers once they gain access to anti-tank rifles. A single shot to an enemy tank's radiator, or a single shot fired with the "Penetrate" or the "Attack Weak Point" order spells instant death to tanks and gun turrets - from far greater distances and with vastly superior accuracy.

  • Chivalrous Pervert: He really fancies ladies and is an unabashed flirt, as seen when he addresses Neige.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Acts as one for Leonhardt.
  • Expy: His physical features strongly resemble Saitama from One-Punch Man. Appropriate, when you consider he's from a One-Hit Kill class.
  • Friendly Sniper: Mostly towards women, but Aladdin is regardless one of the most friendly and empathetic members in the entire squad. It's partly thanks to his encouragement that Neige was able to gain self-confidence on the battlefield.
  • I Call It "Vera": He calls his rifle Sgt. Isabella.
  • The Lost Lenore: Sgt. Isabella was his first love who was killed by an Imperial soldier.

  • Apologetic Attacker: Sometimes says he's sorry when attacking, although he doesn't sound terribly upset about it.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: His devotion to nature can get pretty out-there at times, like the way he describes his lack of a desire to "mate".
Azusa: I get what you're saying, but the way you're saying it is totally weirding me out. I'm- that's not just me, right?
  • Friendly Sniper: One of the friendliest on the squad.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Unfortunately manifests as a potential that can cause him to become distracted mid-battle.
  • Grim Up North: He hails from a Scandinavia-like nation.
  • I Work Alone: Not in the strict sense that he hates company, but in gameplay terms Norid performs best when posted as far away from his allies as possible, in order to proc his Backup Sniping potential.
  • Nature Lover: Norid's defining character trait is his overwhelming love and devotion to nature. It's reflected by several of his unit activation quotes, his personal Potential, and his Last Words if he dies in battle.
Norid: (if selected on field map) "Mother Nature is all around us!"
Norid: (after successfully sniping an enemy) "Circle of Life."
Norid: (dying words) "So... this is it. At last... I can be one with... nature."
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: Azusa's Femme Fatale Spy act doesn't work on him due to his lack of interest in sex.
  • Shout-Out: Several of his unit activation and Potential quotes reference Disney films:
    • If he successfully snipes an enemy, he'll sometimes say: "Circle of Life." which is a song title from The Lion King.
    • One of his unit activation quotes (when selected on the field map) is, "You've Got a Friend in Me." which is another song title. This time being from Disney's Toy Story.
    • If Norid survives the war, his epilogue states that he was last seen in the wilderness, running naked with a pack of wolves. An obvious reference to Kevin Costner's signature scene in Dances with Wolves.

    Leonhardt Strauch

  • Blue Blood: His parents were a real Lord and Lady, so his attitude isn't entirely unfounded.
  • Born Winner: Subverted. He claims he's so skilled because he's "born this way", but he actually got the skill he has through rigorous training (mostly forced by his parents).
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: His superiority complex gives him a bad habit of talking down to others (including his superior officers), but he will show respect for skill and willpower as shown to Neige during their Squad Story. He's also looking for his caretakers who live in Imperial territory to make sure they're safe because they treated him with more kindness than his own parents.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Unlike Gertrude, he is this less out of Noblesse Oblige as much as trying to uphold the impossibly high standards his Lord parents placed on him.
  • Prince Charmless: Gives off this air, though it's mostly just an act.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: He'll often slip slang like "dude" and "bitch-slap" into his dialogue when he's caught off guard, hinting that his "princely" persona is mostly just an act.

  • Action Girl: One of three female snipers in the squad.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She tears Leonhardt a new one after he goes AWOL, surprising even herself. This proves to everyone involved, herself included, that she can be assertive if she really tries.
  • Doomed Hometown: Moves to Edinburgh to escape the encroaching Imperial invasion, she enlists to free her homeland from Imperial occupation.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her Performance Anxiety kicks in when sharing line-of-sight with multiple enemies, and drops her AP to zero, meaning that she will more often than not find herself positioned in a very poor spot. It has a rather high chance to activate, as well. One workaround to this issue is to have an Officer unit move her around using a Direct Command (or doing the same with Dan's APC). Which means that, ironically, Neige works best when you offer her some literal hand holding.
  • Glass Cannon: Moreso than every other sniper, having the lowest HP out of the lot.
  • Happily Married: With her improved confidence after the war, she pursues and eventually marries a man from her hometown after the war.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Apparently admires Fleuret and has a potential related to her, despite not having her listed among her friends or sharing any meaningful on-screen time with her.
  • Performance Anxiety: She doesn't lose her "Stage Fright" potential after her Squad Story, as something like that takes a lot more than one incident to overcome. Instead she gains a new potential, "Signs of Change".
  • Shrinking Violet: Is extremely timid around people, so much so that getting sighted by multiple enemies can actually stop her movement.

  • Action Girl: The other female sniper aside from Neige and Kai.
  • Cold Sniper: Carries a dead serious attitude with her on the battlefield. Most of the time...
  • Cuteness Proximity: Would never admit it but she has a fondness for cute things like kittens and teddy bears.
  • Military Brat: Comes from a long-running family soldiers.
  • Only Sane Woman: During her Squad Story with Rebecca and Fleuret she's the one who serves as the disciplinarian to get the other two to confront their hangups.
  • Perpetual Frowner: As she is a Marina Wulfstan Expy, this is a given.
  • Recurring Element: A serious sniper with a hidden love of cute things, like Marina from the first Valkyria Chronicles.
  • Secret Character: Is only recruited if the player completed three other Squad Stories.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Despite (rather rightfully) criticizing Fleuret in their shared Squad Story, Mabel is also the one who comes into her defense when a Federation troop disses Fleuret at how "useless" she is.
  • Tranquil Fury: She has a potential with this exact name that triggers upon her taking interception fire. Whether she exacts this fury on the hapless soldier who fired upon her or not is entirely up to the player's discretion.
