Otogakure

    Orochimaru

Orochimaru

The third member of the legendary Sannin and Anko's former mentor, who betrayed Konoha is his quest for power and immortality. He also is a former member of Akatsuki. He appears first during the second stage of the Chunin-Exams, attacking Team 3 before marking Sasuke with his cursed seal. He later impersonates the Kazekage and orchestrates the Sound-Sand invasion, during which he fights Hiruzen and Anko, before being killed by the former.
  • Abled in the Adaptation: He doesn't get his arms sealed by Hiruzen in this version.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Chunin-Exam Arc.
  • Back from the Dead: Kabuto resurrects him after mastering the Edo-tensei, only to tell him that he is continuing his legacy, and already has surpassed him After that, he is often summoned for test or fights, before Sakura seals him away for good during the Kumo-Invasion.
  • Death by Adaptation: He get's a Karmic Death fairly early on, although Kabuto resurrects him a few times.
  • Demoted to Extra: He goes from being the Big Bad of Part 1 in canon to being a still relevant Arc Villain, who is brought Back from the Dead a couple times.
  • Off with His Head!: Hiruzen kills him by quite literally knocking his head off.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He has an internal one when he realizes that he is about to die.
Orochimaru: This… Can't be happening. It can't![...] I… I can't die. I can't die like my mother and father! There's so much research that needs to be done! So many jutsus to discover…

    The Sound Four

Sakon & Ukon, Jirōbō, Kidōmaru and Tayuya

An elite squad of young Oto-Shinobi that serve as Orochimaru's bodyguards. They are rather unceremoniously and quckily defeated by Hiruzen during the Sand-Sound-Invasion, with only Tayuy surviving. Due to being an Ascended Extra, this list excludes Tayuya. For tropes pretaining to her, see True Potential - Konohagakure: Uzumaki-Clan.

    Kimimaro Kaguya

Kimimaro Kaguya

A strong servant of Orochimaru who posseses both the cursed seal and his clan's bone-keekei genkai. He is also terminally ill and only shows up in a coma, before being killed by Kabuto for his kekkei genkai.
  • People Puppets: Kabuto hands his corpse to Sasori as part of their initail deal. Sasori uses himd during his later fights.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He doesn't even have any dialogue.

    Dosu Kinuta
A genin from Otogakure who participates in the Chunin-exams. After being nearly killed by Gaara, saved by Naruto, and then almost being killed by Kabuto, he defects to Konoha. For tropes pretaining to Dosu, see: True Potential - Konohagakure-Torture and Interrogation Department.

Kusagakure

    Karin Uzumaki

Karin Uzumaki

A Uzumaki-survior living in Kusagakure whom Tayuya made contact with prior the Sand-Sound-Invasion. She joins Jiraiya, Naruto and Tayuya on their mission to the ruins of Uzushiogakure, where they encounter Masakado. After training in fūinjutsu, she returns to Kusa. After the timeskip, she reappears as a Jonin-sensei of a Kusa-Team during the Chunin-Exams in Kumo.
  • Adaptational Badass: Besides all her Boring, but Practical canon-abilities, she becomes a great user of fūinjutsu, showing the greatest amptitude among her cousins.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: She never meets the other members of Team Taka, and remains a Kusa-Shinobi.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She saves Teams nine and eight from Amuda during their Chunin-exams.
  • The Bus Came Back: After not showing up for the rest of Part I, she returns for Part II's Kumo-Arc.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: She defeats Amuda in matter of seconds.
  • Forced Sleep: Her Fūinjutsu: Sleep Paralysis Jutsu.
  • Lost Orphaned Royalty: As opposed to Naruto and Tayuya, she doesn't know her own specific lineage (beyond being an Uzumaki) until Masakado finds out about her Empathic Healer-ability, which links her to the first Uzukage, making her effectively a princess of Uzushiogakure.
  • Mistaken for Betrayal: Upon hearing of the Uzumaki Clan's reestablishment in Konoha, she tried in vain to be named Kusas "ambassador" to Konaha, but all it did was raise suspicions about her loyalties to Kusa, even extending to her own eventual Genin-Team.
  • Related in the Adaptation: To Tayuya, who is also an Uzumaki in this fic.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After the timeskip, she returns as a fully-fledged seal master and is probably the strongest among Kusa's Jonin.
  • Trap Master: Her preferred fighting style after mastering fūinjutsu

    Maitake Kono

Maitake Kono

One of Karin's genin from Kusa who is doubtful of her Sensei's loyalties.
  • Forced Sleep: How she takes out her Team's opponents during the semi-finals.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: She and her team refuse to fight during the Kumo-invasion and flee, not even defending the Kumo-genin she herself put to sleep.
  • The Spock: Kusa's Shinobi pride themselves on being logical and stoic, although she veers more into Straw Vulcan territory.

Takigakure

    Fū

The Jinchūriki of the Nanabi. A cheerful girl who meets Team 3 during the Taki-Arc. After Taki's destruction, she temporarily is taken in by Konoha, and later accompanies Naruto to Shimo and Shimagame-Island, before fighting alongside her fellow Jinchūriki.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • She becomes good friends with Naruto and his Team, but she doesn't try to befriend Kakuzu.
    • Among the Jinchūriki, she gets particularly close to Yugito.
    • She gets plenty of Ship Tease with Shino.
  • Cool Big Sis: Becomes one to Kanji, simply on the basis of sharing her name with his big brother. He even takes to calling her "Fū-nee".
  • Heroic BSoD: After failing to control her phase-II-chakra during the Jinchūriki-spar in Shimo.
  • Horned Humanoid: She gains a rino-beetle-like horn as part of her chakra cloak.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted, like in canon. To better distinguish her and the ROOT-agent/Kanji's older brother, she is sometimes referred to as "Takigakure no Fū" note .
  • Ship Tease: With fellow bug-enthusiast Shino.
  • Spared By Adaptation: She isn't captured by Kakuzu.
  • Stepford Smiler: Naruto quickly picks up on how she is more cheerful around non-Jinchūriki as a result of her own village's discrimination against her.
  • Unstable Powered Woman: As shown during the spar against Killerbee and Yugito, and later her fight during the hunt for Danzō, she can't fully control her version-two chakra. Alothough she masters version two and her chakra-cloak during the Shimagame-Arc.
  • Warrior Poet: She likes to compose Haiku-like poems.

    Shibuki

Shibuki

The current head-shinobi of Takigakure. Only a Chunin in strength, he is a notable Aversion of the setting's Rank Scales with Asskicking.

    Zagi Kariudo

Taki's Jonin-Commander, who is responsible for guarding the village's entrance. He owes his life to Kaukuzu, leading to him betraying his village to Akatsuki.

    Asuna Karido

Asuna Karido

A Taki-kunoichi and Zagi's daughter who's team participates in the same Chunin-exams as Team 3. She later reappears in the aftermath of the Taki-invasion.
