Tropes most of the girls in the club display:

Francesca "Frankie" Thomas

The first girl to narrate any books in the series, Frankie is usually the mastermind behind several plots in the series and a firm vegetarian. She lives with her strict lawyer parents and, later, her baby sister Isobel.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Towards her sister Izzie; naturally, seeing as she spends most of the books before her mother becomes pregnant whining about being an only child.
  • Catchphrase: "As my grandma always says..." This is toned down in later books.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Or as snarky as they get in this series, anyway.
  • The Leader: She sees herself as this, and openly speculates that the others see her in the same way, although they seldom mention such feelings themselves.

Laura "Kenny" Mckenzie

Frankie's long time best friend, Kenny loves sport and, apparently, only ever really wears her Leicester City football shirt. She lives with her father (a doctor), her mother and two older sisters; Molly, who is twelve, and Emma, who is sixteen.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: To Molly more than Emma. While we see their arguments from Kenny's point of view, it's clear they're just as bad as each other.
  • Berserk Button: See below.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Do Not Call Me Laura.
  • Fatal Flaw: Kenny's impulsiveness and penchant for playing tricks and teasing is almost always the reasons she and the other girls get in trouble. Notable instances include her wrecking the M&Ms part of the New Years' show (getting a ban on sleepovers afterwards) and trying to do a corkscrew turn at her first snowboarding lesson (ending with a sprained ankle). She's also alienated her friends on more than one occasion by yelling at them to be fiercer competitors.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The Heart of Gold is unquestionable, but she strays into Jerk territory at several points, especially in later books where her competitiveness is flanderized to the point where she's downright mean with it.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Loves football. On more than one occasion, she also shows an interest in surfing, although she isn't as good at it as her friends.

Lyndsey "Lyndz" Collins

Lyndz is described as the sort who would 'rescue a fly if it fell in a puddle'; she's generally the more kind-hearted and rational in the series. She lives with her parents, her two older brothers, Tom and Stuart, and her two younger brothers, Ben and 'Spike'.
  • Animal Lover: Horses are her biggest love, but she also loves other animals and even kidnaps a pig from a zoo when she thinks it's going to be fed to a snake.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Behaves in this way towards her older brothers.
    • In contrast, she also sees her own younger brothers in this way, especially Ben.
  • All Girls Like Ponies: Essentially her defining trait.
  • Catchphrase:
    Lyndz: I feel—
    Others: —really sorry for her!
  • You Are Fat: Fliss drops this on her in an early book, at which point she immediately starts trying to diet. It doesn't last.

Felicity "Fliss" Sidebotham

Fliss is often considered the more spoilt and appearance-orientated character in the club, especially by the other girls. She's not that bad really. She lives with her mother, her stepfather, Andy, and her little brother, Callum. Later, her mother has baby twins.

Rosie Cartwright

Rosie is the newest club member and befriended the girls because Lyndz 'felt sorry for her'. She's initially secretive, but soon opens up. She lives with her mother, her older sister, Tiffany, and her brother, Adam, who has ceeebral palsy and is in a wheelchair.

     Other Classmates

Emma Hughes/Emily Berryman ('The M&Ms')

The M&Ms (who gain many nicknames throughout the series) are the closest things to antagonists the series has. Several books have plots revolving around the club trying to get one over on the pair of them, or vice-versa.
  • Alpha Bitch: Emma more so than Emily.
  • For the Evulz: While their spite towards the Sleepover Club can be justified at certain times, they are often mean to others for no reason. Examples include picking on the younger girls from their dance school in The 24-Hour Sleepover Club, and spreading rumours about who was taking food from the charity drive in Merry Christmas, Sleepover Club. Emma crosses a line in particular when she says mean things about Rosie's brother because he has cerebral palsy. Rosie responds by tipping unfinished cake mix on her. Even Mrs Poole makes it clear that she feels Rosie's reaction was somewhat justified, and the next chapter shows that she didn't get in trouble with her mother over it.
  • Hate Sink: Absolutely no redeeming qualities. Special mention to Emma, who often treats even Emily with no respect.
    • That said, this was averted in one book when Emma tried to be nice to convince her visiting pen pal that she was a member of the club.
  • In Series Nicknames: The girls call Emma "the Queen" because of her Alpha Bitch status and snobby personality, and Emily "the Goblin" because she's small and has a husky voice.
  • Teacher's Pet: The pair of them. The main five characters often complain about this; ironically, since they often reach this territory themselves.
  • One-Steve Limit: Subverted; Kenny's oldest sister is also called Emma.
  • With Friends Like These...: Often to other girls, but Emma and Emily's friendship often shows Emma treating Emily like a sidekick and ordering her around.

Alana "Banana" Palmer

Alana hangs around with the M&Ms by what would seem to be social necessity and is generally portrayed as being dopey, slow-minded, and...well, stupid, really. She rarely - if ever - gets a sympathetic portrayal.

Ryan Scott

Fliss' long-time crush; descriptions of him vary depending on the narrator. Fliss thinks he's cute, the other girls generally think he's stupid or annoying.

Danny Mc Cloud

A recurring background character; the girls see him as being stupid/annoying.

     Teachers
Only recurring teachers are currently listed here; several supply/mentioned teachers dipped in and out for single books and it would be difficult to list them all.

Mrs. Weaver

The girl's class teacher for the vast majority of the series.

Ms. Poole

The very soft and not-particularly-scary headmistress.
