The Rising Sun Company

    In General
  • One-Man Army: Link was always this, and after having taken several levels in badass over the course of their time in Hyrule, each of the members of the Company from Fódlan has gotten to this level. According to Word of God, the only people in Fódlan who could beat any of them in a fight are Rhea, Jeralt, and Byleth.

    Link
The Hero of Hyrule.

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In this version, Link is much more clearly distressed by his lack of memories and frequently blames himself for current state of Hyrule and the suffering of its people.
  • Amnesiac Hero: When he awakens in the Shrine of Resurrection, he doesn't remember his life before. He eventually starts remembering things.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: While Link is proficient with all types of weapons, his preferred weapons are bows and swords.
  • It's All My Fault: Blames himself for the current state of Hyrule. The others repeatedly try to talk him out of it.
  • Jumped at the Call: As soon as King Rhoam asked him to save Hyrule, he agreed to do it.
  • The Leader: He's the leader of the Rising Sun Company.
  • Supreme Chef: There's only one dish that he can't make, and that's his father's Octorok Calamari.

    Edelgard von Hresvelg

  • Control Freak: One of her major flaws that she has to confront is that her capacity to go to extremes trying to reshape the world into what she thinks it should be is a vice rather than a virtue.

    Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd

  • Neck Lift: He performs one on Claude when Claude kills the possessed man Marianne was trying to exorcise.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: His reaction to Astor's massacre of the people of Gatepost Town.

    Claude von Riegan

  • Fatal Flaw: His tendency to choose the easy path over the right one. It’s outright stated that his reason for plotting against the Central Church is because he wasn’t willing to put in the effort to change the cultures of Leicester and Almyra without violence, that destroying the Central Church would make the problems he seeks to solve worse, not better, and that ultimately, had Golden Wildfire been the timeline to predominate, it would have been very, very bad for Fódlan.
  • The Strategist: His role in the Company. For example, he's the one who has the idea for the Company to make its stand on a bridge during their first Blood Moon (meaning monsters can only attack them from two directions), and he heads the defense of Foothill Stable.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Early in the story, he's willing to kill innocent people if it helps the Rising Sun Company achieve their goals. He eventually outgrows this way of thinking.

    Flayn

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: While in the present she's much like she is in the game, in the Hyrule segments she's significantly moodier, particularly when something reminds her of her Dark and Troubled Past. Generally, this is either her failed attempts at cooking (it reminds her of both her dead mother and her old brain injury), or thinking about the Red Canyon Massacre.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Her powers are noted to be able to ward off Calamity Ganon's malice.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: She's rather happy when the rest of the company make it clear that they won't betray her just because she isn't human.
  • Lethal Chef: Deconstructed. She's a terrible cook because a head injury she received in the War of Heroes gave her memory problems, and she can't remember how long to cook things, nor how long something has been cooking. Before her injury, she was a good cook.
  • Throwing Off the Disability: Her goal is to regain her perfect memory and her ability to transform into her draconic form. She succeeds by the end of Year One, though she mentions that her draconic form still takes more energy to maintain than it used to.

    Hubert von Vestra

  • Living Lie Detector: He’s very good at reading people.
  • Undying Loyalty: As par canon, he’s completely loyal to Edelgard. Which is why he doesn’t take it well when he becomes immortal, because he knows he no longer has a place at her side.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: An incident with a djinn makes him immortal. He does not take it well at the time, though in the present he seems to have made peace with it.
  • You Remind Me of X: Lysithea reminds him of his younger sister.

    Ferdinand von Aegir

    Linhardt von Hevring

    Caspar von Bergliez

  • Barrier Warrior: Inherits Daruk's Protection.
  • BFS: In addition to inheriting Daruk's Protection, he also receives Daruk's Boulder Breaker.
  • Didn't Think This Through: His attempt to take on an Igneo Talus by himself doesn’t go as well as expected. He succeeds, but only because of Petra’s intervention and because he remembered Linhardt’s advice about going for the legs.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He attempts one to throw himself and Fireblight Ganon into Death Mountain. Fortunately, Daruk saves him just in time.

    Dorothea Arnault

    Petra Macneary

  • Revenge by Proxy: Defied. She wants revenge on Count Bergliez, but she dismisses the idea of killing Caspar because Count Bergliez wouldn't know about it.

    Bernadetta von Varley

    Dedue Molinaro

  • Friend to All Children: Flayn realizes he's more than just a hardened bodyguard by the kind and respectful way he interacts with Koko.
  • Supreme Chef: He's not as good of a cook as Link, but he's still noted to be an excellent cook.

    Felix Hugo Fraldarius

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He realizes when trying to interact with Paya that he doesn’t really remember how to interact with people without being snide. Still, he’s just as heroic as the others in the Company.
  • Ship Tease: He gets some with Paya.

    Sylvain Jose Gautier

  • Hidden Depths: Dorothea notes that behind the womanizing, he cares deeply for his friends, and wants very much for them to be happy.
  • Official Couple: With Dorothea.
  • Shipper on Deck: He enthusiastically ships Felix and Paya.

    Ashe Ubert

  • Birds of a Feather: Despite having been at odds with each other, he notes that Lord Lonato and Rhea taught him and Cyril similar values.

    Ingrid Brandl Galatea

    Annette Fantine Dominic

  • Chainsaw Good: After visiting the Akkala Tech Lab, she acquires an Ancient Bladesaw.
  • The Engineer: She's the one who does maintenance on the Company's Ancient Tech weapons.

    Mercedes von Martritz

  • Humans Are Bastards: Discussed. She believes that humanity is cruel and selfish by nature, and true, unconditional kindness is exclusively of the Goddess and those who know her love.

    Lorenz Hellman Gloucester

  • Ship Tease: He gets a fair amount with Leonie in Year One.

    Raphael Kirsten

  • Big Eater: His first reaction to helping kill a Gohma is to wonder if he can eat it.

    Ignatz Victor

    Hilda Valentine Goneril

    Lysithea von Ordelia

  • A Shared Suffering: She volunteers to replace Hubert as Edelgard’s right hand because of their shared experiences as the Agarthans’ test subjects.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Her fear of ghosts makes fighting Stalfos and Poes difficult for her.

    Marianne von Edmund

  • Healing Hands: Ends up inheriting Mipha's Grace instead of Link.

    Leonie Pinelli

  • Commonality Connection: She starts warming up to Lorenz when she realizes his attitude is a result of him trying to live up to a legacy he’s not sure he’s worthy of, much like her desire to live up to Jeralt’s legacy.

    Cyril

  • Blow You Away: Even for a Wind mage, he has exceptional control over the air. It turns out this is because he was the one to inherit Revali’s Gale.

    Kronya

  • Blood Knight: She loves to fight.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Over time, she comes to value her teammates.
  • Dramatic Irony: When she first encounters Calamity Ganon, she thinks it's a shame that Solon isn't there, because he might be able to use the Forbidden Spell of Zaharas to destroy Ganon. The Forbidden Spell might have been able to do the job, but it would require using Kronya herself as a Human Sacrifice. And Kronya would not have considered that an acceptable sacrifice.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: She wants to destroy Calamity Ganon, but at first it's just so there's still a world for the Agarthans to conquer. She eventually discards this way of thinking.

    Linkle

  • The Beastmaster: A flock of Cuccos follows her into battle.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She shows up to save the Company at Gatepost Town and Foothill Stable.
  • Kick Chick: She’s a highly effective kickboxer.
  • Sixth Ranger: She, Shez, and the Ashen Wolves join the RSC after Link acquires the Master Sword.

    Shez

  • Dual Wielding: As par canon. It’s noted that dual wielding swords the way he does is very difficult, and he can only do it in his Awakened form because of that form’s heightened perception.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: While in his Awakened form, his swords are very effective against Calamity Ganon’s Malice.

    Yuri LeClerc

    Balthus von Albrecht

    Hapi

    Constance von Nuvelle

  • Lethal Chef: Both of Constance's personalities are terrible cooks, according to each other. Nighttime Constance's culinary creations are a source of severe gastric distress, and Daytime Constance's completely lack flavor.
  • Mad Scientist: Of Magitek, but Nighttime Constance's research process does resemble one.
  • Split-Personality Team: Constance’s personalities have to work together to accomplish any proper research. While Nighttime Constance is a genius Mad Scientist, many of her calculations are total nonsense, and Daytime Constance has to separate the viable notes from the gibberish.
