Demons

    Adramelech
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adramelech_the_devil_is_a_part_timer.png
Voiced by: Ryo Sugisaki (Japanese)

One of the Four Demon Generals, who conquered the Northern Continent of Ente Isla.

  • An Ice Person: Uses this and water to make ice armor for himself.
  • Making a Splash: He uses water for attacking.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: Credited by Albert as the reason he was willing to be so lenient in his opinion of Maou, as Adramelech was his ideal of a warrior and a leader, despite being a demon.

Humans

    Olba Mayer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/olba_mayer.png
Voiced by: Katsuhisa Houki (Japanese), Mark Stoddard (English)

Olba is one of the six Archbishops of the church in the world of Ente Isla. He wields sacred magic like Emilia and attempted to follow her through the gate, but apparently didn't make it in time.

  • The Ace: Due to Olba's advanced age, Suzuno states the fact that he has most of his magic is rather ridiculous. This is due to the fact that using powerful of magic requires a lot of physical stamina, so him still able to keep himself fit despite his age is surprising.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Olba was originally just an average priest that doubted the existence of god and eventually grew obsessed with becoming a god, then downgrade to become an angel.
  • Bald of Evil: Completely devoid of hair, like how his character is devoid of redeeming qualities.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: To Emi, she saw him as a grandfather figure, in actually he's a Glory Hound that wants to expand his power.
  • Crisis of Faith: He started doubting the teaching of the Church early due to various hypocrisies, and when he discovered Lucifer, he realized that angels and god are real, and started his obsession to become a god himself.
  • De-power: After Volume 10, the Church, now led by de facto leader Suzuno, stripped his power away and locked him up.
  • Despair Event Horizon: As a result of Maou, Emi and Alciel not only foiling his plans, but Maou also giving a total Curb-Stomp Battle to three Archangels, Emeralda states it's as if his spirit left his body.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Upon his defeat, he calls out Emilia for stopping so low as to work with demons. Everyone immediately calls him out on the hypocrisy of his statement, since he's cooperating with Lucifer to try and kill Maou..
  • Evil Former Friend: How Emi, Emeralda and Alberto. When the four of them meet again in volume 9, it's obvious they all hate his guts.
  • Evil Old Folks: He is as evil as his mustache is white.
  • Fall Guy: In two different ways. First, Suzuno suggests to the Church and Emi that they can work together to pin the blame for all sorts of nasty stuff on Olba, for which is he largely responsible. Afterward, they can genuinely clean up their act. Second, when Olba failed to return his own comrades went 'Oh, hey, this is convenient. Our inquisition got us into some hot water and oh so conveniently the guy in charge of it is MIA.' So it's thus implied that even if Olba went back to Ente Isla he'd still be in some serious trouble.
  • False Friend: Emeralda reveals that Olba never once thought of Emi, Emeralda and Alberto as his friends.
  • Fights Like a Normal: During his Villain Team-Up with Lucifer, he relies on conventional firearms, stating that he needs to preserve his magic so he can return home to Ente Isla. He drops this after Lucifer points out that if Emi and Maou win, he won't be able to return home either way.
  • Glory Hound: He wants to kill Maou before Emi so he can get the glory.
  • High Priest: He's one of the six archbishops of the Ente Isla church and in charge of the inquisition, which is why Emi isn't willing to trust people from the Church after his betrayal.
Emi: The man who led your organization made an entire underground mall full of innocent people collapse just to kill me and the Demon King. How can I trust you unconditionally as you demand?
  • Hypocritical Humor: He condemns Emi for working with Maou, questioning her sanity. This is despite the fact that not only is he working with Lucifer, a Fallen Angel and The Starscream to Maou, but is actively using him to terrorize the population. Even Lucifer immediately calls him on that one.
  • Light Is Not Good: Olba is supposed to be one of the good guys, yet is teaming up with Lucifer who wants to kill Maou and Emi, one of his companions from Ente Isla. Later, two of Emi's companions arrive to tell her that the church back home is doing very similar things to Olba back on Ente Isla. These people wield explicitly sacred power.
  • Moral Myopia: As stated above, he has the nerve to call Emi out on working with Maou while he himself was working with Lucifer. Furthermore, Olba was actively working with Lucifer to not only kill Maou and Emi personally, but also to simply terrorize innocent people, whereas Emi was working with Maou to stop them from doing so.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: As shown in a flashback, Suzuno asked him why the Church doesn't try to meet heretics halfway instead of killing them. He just tells her not to question him and gives her a list of more people to execute.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: His plan to help Sariel power-up by drawing the moon closer threw the entire city into mass panic, allowing Maou to feed on these emotions to power up — exactly as planned by Lucifer, who then knocks Olba out once Maou is restored to full power, canceling the moon spell and reversing Sariel's own power boost.
  • Sinister Minister: He's one of Emi's former companions who wants to take the glory of killing Maou for himself and like her can use Sacred Power.
  • Squishy Wizard: He packs a considerable punch in terms of offense, but when the opponent starts fighting back, he's quickly knocked flat.
  • Support Party Member: His role in Emi's group.
  • The Unfettered: He's willing to go to some pretty heinous lengths to take down Maou and Emi, up to and including bringing an entire mall filled with innocent people down on them.

    Emeralda Etouver
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emeralda_etouver.png
Voiced by: Azumi Asakura (Japanese), Monica Rial (English)

One of Emilia's companions. A magician who worked for a Royal Family from Ente Isla.

  • Advertised Extra: Despite appearing alongside Albert Ende in the anime opening, Emeralda's only contribution to the story is by arriving just after Lucifer and Olba were defeated in episode 5, and serving as Mission Control for Emilia in both episodes 6 and 13.
  • Affectionate Nick Name: Emilia calls her "Eme".
  • Alliterative Name: Emeralda Etouver.
  • The Archmage: She's considered the best mage in Ente Isla.
  • Big Eater: On her first visit to Japan, she and Albert collectively ate 49 plates of sushi, while Emi only ate 10 and Chiho 6.
  • Child Mage: Her physical appearance is extremely youthful.
  • Court Mage: She's the highest-ranked official who serves directly under the ruler of the Holy Saint Aire Empire, the greatest nation on the Western Continent.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has teal hair and eyes.
  • Fish out of Water: Early in her long-term visit to Japan from Volume 11 onwards is her basically playing Suzuno's role when the latter first arrived at Japan. She even got confused trying to enter Emi's room number into apartment numpad because the button for 505 doesn't exist, and gets excited by trains.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Albert.
  • Mana Potion: Creates one for celestial magic users such as Emi and Suzuno. It's cleverly disguised as an energy drink "Holy Vitamin-β".
  • Meaningful Name: Her name sounds like a mix of Emerald + Esmeralda, given the color of her hair and eyes it certainly fits her.
  • Older Than She Looks: Despite being the Token Mini-Moe, she's actually around 5 years older than Emi, which would put her somewhere in the early 20s.
  • Sweet Tooth: In Volume 11, she eats Rika's cream puffs and likes to eat them so much she kind of neglects to eat regular food.
  • Token Mini-Moe: The obligatory cute young girl in the cast.
  • Verbal Tic: The light novel shows that she has a tendency to extend her long a sounds. She can speak normally when she needs to be serious, but she doesn't like to stay serious for long.

    Albert Ende
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/albert_ende.png
Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (Japanese), Christopher Sabat (English)

One of Emilia's companions. A lumberjack from the northern mountains.

  • Advertised Extra: Shares this alongside Emeralda in the anime opening; whose only contribution to the overall story was unknowingly speaking telepathically with Chiho to warn about the oncoming earthquakes being caused in Episode 3, and by arriving just after Lucifer and Olba were already defeated.
  • Big Eater: On his first visit to Japan, he and Emeralda collectively ate 49 plates of sushi, while Emi only ate 10 and Chiho 6.
  • The Big Guy
  • Cool Old Guy: When he reappears in Volume 9, he's happy to work with Maou despite their past battles. He's also one of the few people to not treat demons as monster off the block due to past experiences.
  • The Drifter: Albert reveals that after Maou was defeated, he spent his time traveling Ente Isla to gather information for Emeralda.
  • Fantastic Racism: Averted. He's the only member of Emi's group that lost his hatred of demons before the start of the series.
  • Flying Brick: His known powers are Super-Strength and flight.
  • Genius Bruiser: He was the party's bruiser and tactician.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Albert doesn't seem to use mystical weaponry like the others. He just bashes and smashes.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Emeralda.
  • Mighty Lumberjack
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: In terms of reputation, he happily admits he's the least famous. As Emi is the hero that saved Ente Isla, Olba is one of the heads of the church and Emeralda is the most skilled mage of Ente Isla. In comparison his nicknames are hard to understand and his history isn't as well known. Of course he uses this to his advantage to gather information for Emeralda.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: The series describes that he never wears sleeves, this is rather shocking as he comes from the north which is always snowing.
  • Super-Strength: Can punch demons through walls.
  • Teleportation Sickness: Gets sick traveling through the Gate.
  • Undying Loyalty: To his friends. When Emi went thought the gate alone, his first thought was to quickly follow after her. Emeralda and Olba pointed out that would damage the war effort if they just disappeared like that.
  • Worthy Opponent: Volume 10 reveals he feels this away about Adramelech, the demon general that took over his home continent

    Nord Justina/Hiroshi Sato

Voiced by: Atsushi Ono (Japanese), Jeff Plunk (English)

Emilia's father and Laila's lover. He was killed not long after the Church took in Emilia. Or is he?

  • Faking the Dead: Laila faked his death, taught him Japanese and sent him to Japan with Acieth Alla.
  • Interspecies Romance: He and Laila fell in love and have Emilia as their child.

Angels

    Mitsuki Sarue/Sariel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mitsuki_sarue.png
Voiced by: Yūichi Iguchi (Japanese), Scott Freeman (English, Season 1), Kyle Igneczi (English, Season 2)

The manager of the newly opened Sentucky Fried Chicken. He is actually an Archangel of Heaven sent to retrieve Emi's holy sword.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: To Kisaki, Maou's boss.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the anime, he's able to put up a decent fight against Maou at first until his power begins to drain as the false moon fades. In the books, Maou literally catches his holy lightning, juggles it, fries him with it and then uses hellfire to take him out within about ten seconds.
  • Anti-Magic: He has the ability to cancel out Sacred Energy, an ability unique to him.
  • Arc Villain: He serves as the main antagonist of the first season of the anime (the first five volumes of the novel), having travelled to Earth to act as the manager of Sentucky Fried Chicken under the human guise of Mitsuki Sarue. Where in reality, he targets Emi to retrieve the Better Half from her.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He flirts with every cute girl that catches his eye. While his success rate is abysmal, his tenacity is impressive.
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: He is an archangel.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Sariel's ability to nullify Sacred Energy doesn't really do him much good against a demon and he's never had to fight anyone that doesn't rely on sacred power. As a result, Maou hands him his ass in approximately ten seconds in the novel.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Sariel comes to earth possing as Sarue, the manager of the neighboring Sentucky Fried Chicken, with the mission to kill Satan, who's going by Maou, only for Maou to defeat him, and banishes him to Ente Isla. When Sariel comes back the next day, he gives up his quest to kill Maou, and even tries to get on good terms with Maou and his companions. Despite seeing their restaurants operating close by as friendly competition, and not having any animosity against them any more, Maou and his friends still consider Sarue an annoyance.
  • Dirty Coward: During the fight with Maou, he tries to gain an advantage by using Chiho as a Human Shield. Unfortunately for him, Maou was one step ahead of him and used a glamour to make himself appear as Chiho.
  • Enemy Mine: In Volume 6, while he isn't hostile to the gang anymore, he doesn't want to get involved with their quarrel against Heaven or other demons either. However he still agreed to help teach Chiho Idea Link.
  • Epiphany Therapy: Gave one to Ashiya in the subject of, of all things, love. Time will tell if it will stick or not.
  • Expy: Flamboyant, chin length blue hair, Sissy Villain... when did James leave Team Rocket?
  • Eye Beams: Purple ones that are normally pretty low key, but cancel out Sacred Energy. With enough power they become far more impressive, however.
  • Formerly Fit: In one instance, where he gets fat from eating MgRonald's for every meal in an ill attempt to impress Mayumi Kisaki. Subverted when he gets better and reverts back to his normal size after patching things up with Kisaki.
  • For Science!: Planned on experimenting with Chi's body to see what effect Maou's magic has on it.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: He drops the antagonism after his defeat, but most of the cast still dislikes him even when he's helping out.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After his defeat, he's mostly just mildly annoying and overly fixated on Kisaki, even helping out on occasion. When he's finally asked about why he hasn't returned to heaven he states that he actually likes working for and helping other people, which angels have never bothered to do in Ente Isla.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He's able to absorb great power from the moon being brought closer to Earth. However, this also helps Maou regain his demon form from the widespread panic caused by the large freakish moon covering the whole sky. Lucifer then removes the magical moon spell, thus depriving Sariel's source of strength, while Maou retained his power due to people's fears lingering around them.
  • Jerkass: Despite being an archangel, he's much more cruel and twisted than Maou ever was, on top of being a pervert.
  • Large Ham: He acts in a very flamboyant, theatrical fashion.
  • Light Is Not Good: Claims to be one of the good guys, but the way he acts towards the main characters, especially Emi doesn't exactly fit the definition of one. Oh, and did we forget to mention that he's an angel, too?
  • Locked in a Freezer: After Maou throws him via a portal he ends up in MgRonald's freezer instead of Ente Isla. By accident. He is also released by accident. It's Played for Laughs.
  • Lunacy: The closer to the moon he is, the more powerful he is.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name contains the character for moon and he grows more powerful the closer he is to it.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: While gathering celestial force from the full moon, he unintentionally replenishes Sadao's magic by creating panic.
  • Power Gives You Wings: His wings get larger as he gets more power from the moon.
  • Pretty Boy: The Light Novels state his only redeeming quality is his face.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Sariel was a fallen archangel in The Book of Enoch whose major crime was lusting after human women to a sex-mad extent. A trait shared by this Sariel as well.
  • Say Your Prayers: Ironically, Maou tells him this just as he's about to bring down his Demonic Blade on top of him. Seeing that he's royally screwed, he does just that.
  • Sinister Scythe: Summons one as his weapon.
  • Sinister Shades: Wears sunglasses a lot, even while working indoors. This is to hide the bright orange circle around one of his eyes. His Casanova Wannabe antics don't help it very much either.
  • Sissy Villain: In his angel form where he is quite flamboyant and wild. It forms a rather creepy combination considering he is also a Casanova Wannabe.
  • Smug Snake: Several of the female characters are creeped out by his Casanova Wannabe antics, such as Chiho and Rika.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Can create green orbs that explode on impact.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Like Lucifer, he finds out he's no match against a fully-empowered Maou and begins praying to God just as Maou's about to bring down his Demonic Blade on him.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He finds that after living in Japan for awhile that he doesn't actually want to return to heaven, which is only concerned with protecting itself and ignores the people that it's supposed to protect.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: In the final episode, when he falls for Kisaki, he practically orgasms when she digs her heels in him thinking he's a pervert.

    Laila Justina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/archangel_lailah.png
Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue (Japanese), Morgan Garrett (English)

A rogue archangel and the mother of Emi. She also has connections to Maou and has been making mysterious moves behind the scenes.

  • Big Good: She's in hiding, but is doing her best to resolve some dangerous situation that the main cast is barely even aware of, even as they fulfill her plans.
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: She is an archangel.
  • The Chessmaster: She handed out numerous fragments of Yesod to help nurture them and recover their power. Often, the people she gives the fragments to don't even know what they are.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: She disappeared from Emi's life not long after she was born and has actually done her best to from ever meeting her daughter without explaining why. It's related to saving Ente Isla, but her actions are very roundabout and require secrecy and a lot of attention.
  • Demonic Possession: Angelic Possession, in her case. She at least partially possessed Chiho in Volume 5 to help fight off Gabriel and Raguel. However, her identity as the possessor isn't revealed until Volume 11, where she's properly introduced to the cast.
  • Going Native: She pulled this off better than any of the main cast or her husband, with legal immigration papers (she's listed as being born in the UK) and a nurse certificate, to boot. It helps that she stayed on Earth for more than a decade instead of merely 1-2 years like the others.
  • Hospital Hottie: She's a nurse in Japan, and has a beautiful figure too. Back in the original Angel civilization, she was a doctor on their moon base.
  • La Résistance: She and Satanael are the leaders of small group of angels opposing to Ignora's plan to impose immortality on Ente Isla humans
  • Maternally Challenged: She basically abandoned her daughter to handle more pressing issues, which is understandable, but she also avoids contacting Emi and is shocked to realize that Emi is kind of pissed at her.
  • Men Can't Keep House: Inverted: her house is an absolute mess, even after a full day of cleaning without sleep by her to make things "presentable" to the gang. She tried to justify that she isn't home often due to her job as a nurse, but Emeralda interjected and said that her place in Holy Magic Administrative Institute back in Ente Isla is quite similar. The one good thing about this is that it's the thing that makes Emi starting to slowly reconcile with her, by showing that Laila is actually a person instead of enigmatic figure manipulating Emi's life.
  • Mystical White Hair: As an angel, having silver hair is a given. However later on her hair color was turned purple after Maou healed her wound due to Erone's attack, and she decides to keep it that way.
  • Omniscient Morality License: She manipulates people and even nations behind the scenes for reasons involving the Sephirah that she won't explain to people but is generally assumed to be a heroic figure. But Emi is having none of it and slaps her repeatedly for her shady and irresponsible behavior until the rest of the group stops her.

    Gabriel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gabriel_hataraku_maou_sama.png
Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu (Japanese), Ian Sinclair (English)

The archangel in charge of guarding Yesod under normal circumstances. After the jewel was split, he eventually began hunting down the fragments and comes into conflict with Maou and Emi when he comes to retrieve Alas Ramus.

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: His sword, Durandal, is supposed to be able to cut anything. It can't cut Emi's sword, however, nor can it pierce Ashiya's skin.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Despite his generally antagonistic role, he does seem to mean well, avoids killing the protagonists when he could and appears to have his own agenda.
  • Archangel Gabriel: Basically who he is, an archangel named Gabriel.
  • Arc Villain: When he first appears, he's actually stronger than Emi and Maou were at their peak, let alone their weakened state. He stays a constant threat for another half dozen novels even when he's not actively causing problems.
  • Berserk Button: Maou bringing up the former great demon king Satan and offering his life in exchange for Alas Ramus' enrages him and he almost kills Maou as a result when before he'd been fine about letting him go.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He comes across as quite flaky and obnoxious, but he's extremely powerful.
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: He is an archangel, after all.
  • Combat Pragmatist: After losing to Emi once, she comes across him apparently sneezing uncontrollably thanks to the cold. When her guard is down, he instantly flash steps behind her and makes it clear he could have killed her before getting back to chatting.
  • Enigmatic Minion: He's one of the highest ranking angels in Heaven and in charge of one of the Sephirah, but the reasons for his actions aren't always clear and he seems to have his own plans.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Even worse than Urushihara. After switching sides, none of the main cast really like him, at least Alas Ramus liked Urushihara.
  • Friendly Enemy: He's rather annoyingly friendly and off kilter, never showing any real sign of aggression under normal circumstances.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While he wasn't that evil in the first place, he changes sides after Maou and group take him to Earth in volume 10.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: His job is protecting the Yesod jewel, so getting back Alas Ramus and the other fragments makes sense. However, in later appearances he no longer cares and is pursuing other goals.
  • Internal Reformist: Volume 9 reveals that he actually wants to change Heaven for the better.
  • Slumming It: Despite technically having access to Ente Isla whenever he wants, Gabriel just lives in an internet cafe, sleeping on one of the chairs.
  • Speaking Like Totally Teen: He talks like a cross between a Surfer Dude Saturday morning cartoon character and Mr. Garrison from South Park (specifically, by constantly peppering his speech with "mm'kay?"). He's also a completely obnoxious Anti-Villain who drives the main characters nuts.
  • True Companions: The reason why he hasn't taken any active measure to change Heaven is that he still cares for all the Angels.

    Ignora
The God of Ente Isla and the leader of the angels. She is also Lucifer's mother.
  • Big Bad: Ultimately, the reason why Ente Isla is in the current state can be blamed on her, since she locked up the Sephirahs, her attempts to force immortality onto everyone on Ente Isla caused her husband Satanael to rebel and stole Yesod, which resulted in her experimenting with using Malkuth for immortality treatment instead, and ends up creating demons.
  • Mad Scientist: Her zealous pursuit of immortality research instead of just antibody for the worldwide epidemic resulted in original Angel civilization's collapse due to it making contributing nations wanting the result for themselves causing worldwide tension, and after Sephirah's attack on the base, the resulting information mutation triggered a world war. And she still plans to still make people immortal in Ente Isla too, which cumulated into the creation of demons when she tried to use Malkuth gene as substitute for Yesod after Satanael and Laila stole the latter.
  • Not Quite the Almighty: In the end she's not a god, merely the leader of the angels and a Transhuman with substantial magical powers and being a genius geneticist.
  • Parental Abandonment: She abandoned Lucifer in Demon World.

    Satanael Noie
The original Devil King, an angel who revolted against Heaven. He is also Lucifer's father.
  • Kill the God: He and Camael the only characters in the series that managed to defeat Sephirahs in combat, although the two didn't kill themnote . It helps that they both have intimate understanding of Sephirahs' genetic structure.
  • La Résistance: He and Laila are the leaders of small group of angels opposing to Ignora's plan to impose immortality on Ente Isla humans
  • Only One Name: Averted. He's the only angel so far to have original surname listed (Laila only took Justina surname after she married Nord)
  • Reluctant Mad Scientist: While he helped his wife Ignora develop the immortality treatment, he is completely against forcing the treatment onto others, and wants to go back being a mortal.
  • Satan Is Good: He rebelled against Heaven due to massive disagreement over immortality treatment and human experimentation that ends up creating demons.

Other

    Alas Ramus/Yesod
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alas_ramus.png
Voiced by: Hina Kino (Japanese), Sarah Wiedenheft (English)
A child who suddenly appeared and says that Maou is her father and Emi is her mother.
  • Badass Adorable: A gutsy, pint-sized girl whose precociousness and fussiness conceal the fact that she can and will punch like a comet to protect her "parents".
  • Berserk Button: She hates angels. Only Lucifer and Laila are the exception.
  • Children Are Innocent: And everyone tries to hide their animosity for one another when she's around to keep it that way.
  • The Cutie: The general reaction to her is Cuteness Proximity
  • Fusion Dance: She "eats" Better Half and ends up becoming the sword.
  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: With a simple tackle she sends archangel Gabriel flying and forces him to begin fighting seriously.
  • Happily Adopted: She adopts Maou as her "father" and Emi as her "mother", she loves them very much and both of them grow to care for her as if they were her real parents.
  • The Heart: She helps stabilize the group dynamics so that Emi and Maou aren't always at each other's throats and forces everyone in Maou's group to act reasonably responsible in order to take care of her. Everyone loved and cared for her enough it gets to the point where the gang goes from "liking life on Earth and not caring about Ente Isla enough to go along with Laila's plan" to "throw everything they have for Laila's plan" because Alas Ramus wanted to see her other siblings that were locked away by Heaven as a Christmas present (later amended to Birthday present by Maou).
  • Macguffin Turned Human: She's a shard of the sacred Yesod that was allowed to grow and come to life. However, it's strongly implied that this is a subversion and that she's supposed to be alive while the angels are screwing up creation by basically locking up all the shards and pieces of Yesod and the other sacred pieces of Sephira.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name "Alas" means "wing" and "Ramus" means "branch" in the in-universe language of Centrumian of Ente Isla.note
  • Morality Pet
    • She's perhaps the first person that Maou has truly cared about and gone out of his way to protect out of genuine affection rather than responsibility. The lengths he's willing to go to for this rather shock Emilia: he offers Gabriel his head on a platter if he'll only let Alas Ramus stay in the human world.
    • For Lucifer. He only takes things seriously when she's involved. This goes to the point where he is willing to participate in a plan to invade Heaven and possibly kill his own mother just to fulfill her wish. Admittedly his mother abandoned him, locked up the Sephirahs and also unintentionally killing the Tree of Sephiroth, which could spell doom to Ente Isla humanity.
  • Our Phlebotinum Child: Technically her relation to Maou and Emi are more or less like this, she was created from a fragment of Sephirah Yesod (the same thing that made Emi's holy sword) which was given to Maou by Laila, an angel who was Maou's mentor (and is also Emi's mother)
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Ships Maou/Emi because she views them as her parents and wants her family to be together.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Powerful enough to make Gabriel wary, but also an infant. All she can do is try to tackle people.

    Acieth Alla/Yesod
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acies_ara_1.png
Voiced by: Madoka Asahina (Japanese), Megan Shipman (English)

Another fragment of Yesod like Alas Ramus. Maou meets her and her father Nord Justina when attempting to pass his moped licence test.

  • Berserk Button: She hates angels just like Ala Ramus. But due to being much bigger, she's more active in her rage.
  • Big Eater: She can eat 35 burgers in one sitting. Everyone around her is horrified. In fact, her eating habit forces Nord to find a job in Japan because their budget is going down way faster than expected.
  • Big Little Sister: While she's Alas Ramus's little sister, she has the appearance of a 10 year old compared to the infant Alas Ramus.
  • Brutally Honest: She has tendency of speaking her mind.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Despite being Brutally Honest, a Big Eater and having No Social Skills, she's just plain odd.
  • Fusion Dance: She fused with Maou in Volume 8, granting him the 2nd Better Half.
  • No Social Skills: She started smelling Maou's hand when she first met him as she smelled Alas Ramus' scent on him.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: She has a tendency of defusing tense atmospheres due to her Big Eater tendencies.

    Erone/Gevurah
A mysterious boy working with Farfarello, and later the angels. He is a shard of Gevurah.
  • Big Eater: Easily rival Acieth Alla in this regard. Him and her together play hell on Nord's food budget. Thankfully Miki-T helps shoulder the cost.

    The Astronaut
A mysterious person wearing a spacesuit who initially appeared in the skies above Ente Isla in Volume 10, and later attacked Maou's group at Satanael's lab in Volume 17.
  • The Worf Effect: Easily beats Emi and Alas Ramus and even ripping Alas Ramus-fused Better Half away from Emi in the battle at Satanael's lab. The Astronaut is only driven back when Acieth Alla went berserk. This is in contrast to their original appearance when Miki-T sends the person running by casually threatening them.
