     As a Group
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: Many of the Defenders are Guardian Beasts in this continuity, a line of elemental protectors meant to fight off Bagan with Anguirus being the prototype they were based off; comprised of Anguirus, Raiga, Gamera, Yonggary, Baragon, Varan, and Rodan. In the film canon they are unrelated outside of scrapped projects and not all included in this group.
  • Badass Crew: Between giant radioactive dinosaurs, mystical goddesses, and specially engineered guardian beasts, they include some of the most powerful creatures to ever exist. Shifts to Badass Army when all of them are present. Xenilla intentionally tried to beat them into shape to be as strong as they could be.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Humanity as a whole's reaction to them is mixed, after decades of fear under the kaiju of the 20th and early 21st century. Some do appreciate the help, but others are skeptical and fearful.
  • Horrifying Hero: Most of them are either neutral to humanity at worst and many intentionally protect humanity, but quite a few in the Global Defense Force were terrified of them if they turned on humans.

     Godzilla Junior

Equestrian Form: Unicorn

  • Achey Scars: The scar he got from his first battle against Destroyah aches whenever he thinks about his father's final battle and death.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Due to being a Composite Character of Godzilla Junior and all the Millennium Godzillas except GMK (who he fought), he's this. Most of the Millennium Godzillas were either antagonistic or neutral forces of nature at best, while Junior is firmly heroic and was always protecting humanity in each of those events.
  • Adaptational Wimp: While he is still incredibly powerful in The Bridge, he is not quite to the level as certain film incarnations such as his portrayal in Godzilla: Final Wars (the one where he single-handedly defeated 10 Kaiju, a few of them with hardly any effort). In fact, in the Amalagam Universe's Final Wars, Godzilla had assistance from the other Terran Defenders in fighting the invading Kaiju (He also did not fight Kaizer Ghidorah). It's also been stated that he is not capable of fighting King Ghidorah one-on-one (though it should be noted this is referring to Grand King Ghidorah, who is leagues stronger than the King Ghidorah his father defeated). He also has of yet to use the Red Spiral Ray until the Climax Boss fight with Grand King Ghidorah were he finally uses it.
  • Affectionate Nickname: "Goji" by Mothra and eventually Luna, "Chief" by Rodan, and "G" by Zilla Junior.
  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: His greatest fear is either he'll go berserk one day like his predecessors or enter a meltdown like his father.
  • Alternate Self: Turns out to be one to Minya from the Showa timeline just as his father was to the Showa Godzilla, and he was nearly actually named Minya by Io at one point but didn't take it.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It was left ambiguous whether he killed Katagiri or the building he was standing on just happened to give way from structural damage. Godzilla: New Era reveals the truth: Katagiri died of blood loss from prior injuries, Junior was actually trying to save him.
  • Apathy Killed the Cat:
    • He's completely uninterested in learning why his egg was abandoned and what happened to his birth parents. As far as he's concerned, Asuza Gojo and Godzilla Senior are the only parents who matter.
    • Unlike Xenilla, he seems to be uninterested in learning how to use telekinesis or magic with his horn. Later, when Mariner Chibi Moon finds out, she points out that he should have learned it because big fights are coming up and he needs every advantage he can get. He takes this to heart and figured out a Magnification Spell Luna was teaching Starlight and Chibi, which he combines with his Atomic Breath into what he dubs Ultima Burst. This saves him, Anguirus, Irys, and Aria from Zephyrus.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Is the "king" of half the Terran kaiju and is easily one of the strongest.
  • Badass Boast:
"I am Gojira, King of the Monsters… And for these attacks, you and your kind have just managed to piss me off!"
  • Badass Teacher: Becomes Mariner "Chibi" Moon's sensei in teaching her how to control her powers.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Runs on nuclear power and could both wipe out and render an entire city uninhabitable if he went all out, but he's actually a heroic figure.
  • Berserk Button: He does NOT take being called "Brother" by Xenilla well. This eventually changes after learning Xenilla's true motives and Azusa encouraging him to forgive him. Also, NEVER under any circumstances threaten his adoptive mother, Azusa Gojo. The first anteverse kaiju, Trespasser, made that mistake. One hour later and unlike the film version, there wasn't enough of Trespasser's skull left to put in a museum.
  • Big Good: To the benign Terran Kaiju.
  • Bishōnen Line: Not only is he stronger than his father and grandfather, he's not as deformed by his mutation as either of them, with his form being noted as more natural. Both of these are because he mutated from birth and grew into his current form while both of them were mutated while already adults.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: The thing that sets him apart from the previous two Godzillas and his Mirror Universe counterpart: he learned actual combat skills from King Kong during his time on Skull Island as a child. This means on top of being one of the strongest kaiju, he's also an intelligent fighter who can put that sheer power to good use. This means unlike mirror Junior, he can use combat skill to handle equal or stronger foes.
  • Breath Weapon: Thermonuclear beams of plasma and thermal energy. He can still pull it off when shrunk down to a unicorn. How strong or large it is depends on how long he has to charge it. He finally gains access to the Spiral Fire Ray during the Climax Boss fight with Grand King Ghidorah, and uses it alongside his brother and the ghost of Senior to destroy the planet killer once and for all. He later figures out how to use a Magnification Spell he learned watching Luna teaching Starlight and Chibi to come up with another variation called Ultima Burst.
  • Chaste Hero: Romance is a completely foreign concept to Junior. Until arriving in Equestria, the only meaningful female interaction he had was with his mother, Mothra Lea, and Raiga, and none of them were in any position to teach him about dating or sex-ed. Blade Dancer's attempts at flirting fly completely over his head or even creep him out due to confusion. When he sees humans and later ponies giving each other flowers, he misinterprets it as exchanging snacks with the intention of the recipient eating the flowers. He does understand what mating is, but he's uninterested in it. He later understands that he likes Princess Luna and she likes him.
  • Cheerful Child: We see him in his toddler days. Little guy liked nothing more than to play around the research institute, wagged his tail like a puppy; and ate donuts with his mother and her friends.
  • Childhood Friends: With Io Shinoda, the two having grown up together at the Kyoto Institute given Junior's enclosure and the psychic school were nextdoor and Io became Azusa's assistant.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Views his vast power as a responsibility to protect those weaker than himself. He's been hard at work defending humanity at large for over fifteen years of constant conflict. Sadly this comes at the cost of his own health and wishes for a peaceful happiness, with the scars to show it.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Besides unintentionally getting Blade Dancer's attention, Junior managed to attract the wandering eyes of some Mermares during a mission, including the attention of Queen Maui, who considered him good-looking.
  • Combat Pragmatist: When fighting he'll use anything any everything he's got, fists, feet, teeth, claws, his tail, sharp back spines; and energy attacks without any digression.
  • Commonality Connection: He noticeably relaxes around Princess Luna after they earn each other's respect and he finds that Luna's life mission isn't very different from his own. They also learn they have a similar parental life, having both lost a father figure (Godzilla Sr. and Starswirl).
  • Composite Character: Godzilla in the story is a unique blend of different incarnations to fit the new continuity. He lived through and fought numerous kaiju from the Millennium era continuity and resembles the 2002 incarnation from that era, he has the heroism of the later Showa era continuity's version; and is the grown up Godzilla Junior from the Heisei era while retaining that version's personality. He's also one with Shin Godzilla after Nightmare possesses him, and by using the Magnification Spell in combination with his Atomic Breath, he creates the same type of beam that is being utilized by Godzilla Ultima, fittingly calling it the Ultima Burst.
  • Covered with Scars: His Healing Factor mends all his injuries, but only can suppress scarring. Once he runs low on power the old marks reemerge, and he's riddled with them.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: He can go into a partial meltdown form that vastly increases his power if enraged enough and survive it, however Word of God stresses the PARTIAL. If he ever went as far as his father did into the state, it'd end exactly the same way.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Thirty stories tall, double rows of fangs, jagged back spines, sharp claws, more nuclear power than an atomic bomb; and has a predatory visage that frightens most ponies and humans. But when the cards are down when it comes to protecting those weaker than himself, he always bats for the side of good. Unfortunately, see Horrifying Hero.
  • Demonic Possession:
  • Dented Iron: As mentioned, if his Healing Factor ever cuts out, his old scars become visible. Seeing the monster king riddled in scars is a humbling sight for Luna, who previously just saw him mostly in peak condition.
  • Destination Defenestration: Gets thrown off of Luna's balcony by the Princess at his request, since he was transforming back into his true form and needed to be away from Canterlot when it happened or least he end up crushing someone.
  • Destructive Savior: And knows it.
Junior: "Sorry about that. Property damage seems to happen a lot around me."
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: In pony form, he's still so strong that when he tries to punch a punching bag, it bursts.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": Although he known as King of the Monsters and leads the Defenders, he doesn't seriously consider himself a king and gets slightly annoyed by the Equestrians calling him King Godzilla.
  • The Dreaded: He is hated and feared by the Anteversers and the Alien Coalition for regularly thwarting their plans and slaughtering them. He quickly becomes feared by many in Equestria, though thankfully this softens with time.
  • Eating Optional: When he grew up, he gained the ability to survive by absorbing energy, so he does not need to eat and doesn't bother doing so. Captain Blueberry Frost makes him eat some hay fries anyway and he finds they are tasty.
  • Energy Absorption: Derives his power from radiation sources. While a good chunk of it comes from his nuclear reactor of a heart, he can absorb ambient sources like solar energy.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: While having seen both humans and ponies give each other flowers, the romantic side to the gesture is lost on him. Instead he concludes that because humans are omnivores and ponies are herbivores, they're exchanging food with the intention of eating the flowers.
  • Family Theme Naming: Word of God when asked if the kaiju had human sounding names, both Junior and Xenilla have a first name that start with D; Darius and Damien respectively.
  • Fight Off the Kryptonite: While alicorn levels of dark magic can screw with his Healing Factor, he's still got enough Super-Toughness to endure hours of physical confrontation and energy blasts from Princess Luna.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Name of one of the most powerful kaiju of all time, the nigh-unstoppable King of the Monsters? Junior. This was actually invoked when Io and him chose the name in the first place.
  • The Four Gods: Hina in New Era suspects he might be the reincarnation of Seiryū, the Azure Dragon guardian of Kyoto, where he was born. Ghost Story in Among Giants made the same connection based off his protective nature and the blue color he manifested from.
  • Friendly Address Privileges: "Godzilla" to his enemies, but just "Junior" to his friends.
  • Generation Xerox: Averted. While the brief glimpse at the adult Junior from the film had him looking identical to Senior, The Bridge gave him a redesign that incorporates aspects from the 2002 suit, namely the serrated spines and darker color. The in story justification for this is that Junior grew into his mutation while his father was mutated as an adult.
  • Gentle Giant: If he isn't in combat, he's this thanks to his upbringing; despite his warehouse size (true form) and alicorn-sized (Equestrian form) body. The only human he's noted as having any knowing involvement in the death of was Katagiri's Disney Villain Death, and even then it's very unclear whether or not Junior actually killed him, it was an accident he didn't even notice, or Katagiri killed himself when Junior refused to do so.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Doesn't bat an eye at outright killing dozens upon dozens of gyaos if it means protecting a city full of innocent civilians. It's this complete aversion to Thou Shall Not Kill attitude to his heroics, least when the situation is dire enough, that spooks half the Equestrians. It should be noted that Junior doesn't like killing and will avoid it if possible, but won't hesitate to kill if it's necessary to save others.
  • The Good King: While the royal title is mostly just a title and not enforced, many of the other Defender kaiju did look up to him and he's been steadfast in leading them in Terra's defense for over a decade.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: His massive collection of scars, which re-emerge whenever his healing factor becomes overtaxed, are a subversion in that they are not at all attractive to match his heroic nature.
  • Happily Adopted: As in canon, he got a good rearing by both his adoptive human mother, Azusa Gojo and his then placid adoptive father, Godzilla Senior.
  • Having a Blast: His Nuclear Pulse, resulting in a large shock wave hitting anything touching him. He can even direct it into a blow for a Mega Ton Buck strong enough to send Princess Luna flying back and through a wall.
  • Healing Factor: Augments his great durability. Not as glamorous as most examples as the feeling of forcefully healing quickly hurts just as much as taking damage. Very powerful malign magic seems to either slow it down for awhile or shut it off.
  • Heroic Bastard: Technically he is a bastard because as Moonbeam Glimmer pointed out, his parents certainly weren't married. That said, he's anything but a Bastard Bastard.
  • Heroic Build: By Equestrian standards, his unicorn form is extremely tall and built like a tank.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Despite his heroics, his own frightening powers scare him based off what could happen if he ever lost his morals; still seeing himself as a mutated monster. Nightmare bringing out this deep rooted fear results in his Nightmare form looking like a hideous monstrosity.
  • Horrifying Hero: He tends to scare a lot of ponies and humans because of his frightening appearance, family history, and not abiding by Thou Shalt Not Kill.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Was this with Mothra, now in Equestria he might still be heavier, but she's actually taller than him now.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: His greatest dream is to live the rest of his life in peace, but that cannot happen as long as there are aliens and evil Kaiju attacking the planet.
  • Improvised Weapon: He learned to make use of these from his mentor Kong, and something that sets him apart from the other Godzillas.
  • The Insomniac: Back on Terra, evil Kaiju can attack at any time. To be ready, Junior only takes brief naps from time to time and is awake almost all day and night.
  • Jack of All Stats: Having good durability, endurance, physical strength, mobility, and ranged attacks; Junior may not be the absolute best in each category but he's far from weak in any of them. This along with the lack of exploitable weakness doesn't make him unstoppable, but still incredibly powerful.
  • Jawbreaker: His mentor was King Kong and learned this move from him.
  • Kaiju: No, really; take a wild guess. Thankfully he's a benign version.
  • Kid Hero All Grown-Up: Warrior Prince from the 1990s grew up into a Warrior King.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Junior is carrying a lot of mental baggage, constantly fearing what would happen if he lost control and seeing his power as a threat to those around him to the point of self-loathing. He sees himself as a monster until a lot of Character Development, but he'll never stop fighting to protect others and is undoubtably heroic.
  • Kryptonite Factor: Very powerful, alicorn grade dark magic shuts off or dampens his Healing Factor temporarily.
  • Large and in Charge: More or less played straight in both his forms. As a kaiju, Junior is easily one of the largest in the Defender faction. In his new unicorn body, the King of the Monsters easily towers over even large stallions like Blueblood and is roughly equal in height to Princess Luna. Among the transformed Defenders, Lea's changeling body is a bit taller, but he is still heavier and has more mass.
  • Legacy Character: While he is sometimes referred to just as "Junior", he often goes by the same name his adoptive father and grandfather had; as the third Godzilla. Gojira also declared him his successor and passed his title of The Alpha Predator to him, though Junior doesn't take this seriously.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Lea. No one knows one more than the other does and during all the battles the two are pretty much a platonic Battle Couple.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son / Like Father, Like Son: Zizagged. Plays into the former a good majority of the time. Godzilla Senior was a Chaotic Neutral loner who'd attack anything that crossed his path and utterly loathed humanity. Godzilla Junior is a Neutral Good with multiple friends, love humans as a whole; and only attacks if attacked or attacking on behalf of another. Like his father however, he does have a temper and has someone else he utterly despises. The fact he felt the temptation to be more like his father terrifies him. Ironically it's his non-kaiju "parent", Azusa Aoki nee Gojo he takes more after; having gotten his selflessness, heroism, and morality from her.
  • Literal-Minded: Godzilla Junior does not get metaphor or word play involving romance. At all. When told that innuendo is going over his head, he looks up.
  • Magnetic Hero: His faction, the Terra Defenders, are monsters he's befriended over the years.
  • Man Bites Man: He puts his fangs to good use, even as a pony.
  • Master-Apprentice Chain: Godzilla Senior/King Kong > Godzilla Junior > Mariner Chibi Moon. Chibi even calls him sensei just like he called Kong.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: New Era suggests the possibility Odo Island's myths of Gojira being a kami of destruction might actually be true, and thus whether Junior is truly an abnormally powerful mutated dinosaur or the latest incarnation of a kami. Hina also theroizes he might actually be Seiryū reincarnated, with Aso noting him being born in Kyoto (which Seiryū is guardian of) of all places lines up with that.
  • Momma's Boy: He has a close relationship with his adoptive mother Azusa Gojo, which is shown as a positive example. While she did not turn him effeminate during her time raising him at Kyoto Institute when he was a youngster, the upbringing and love she showed him is what made him grow up into the Big Good. Twenty years later and both Azusa and Junior still consider each other as mother and son respectively.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: His bulk is all muscle (though to a more even build as opposed to Bulk Biceps) and he has Super-Strength to scale.
  • My Greatest Failure: The fact he wasn't powerful enough to defeat Destroyah, which led to Senior fighting her, aggravating his Meltdown, and his death.
  • Never Learned to Read: Naturally, as a Kaiju, he's uneducated in this department, even if he had human caretakers. In chapter 33, he mentions that Captain Blueberry Frost had been giving him lessons, allowing him to read a newspaper, but slowly. That said, he's only unable to read, Io actually taught him human language, his natural vocal structure is just ill-suited for it.
  • Nice Guy: Much to Luna and the ponies' shock once the misunderstanding was settled.
  • Nom de Mom: When asked about him having a last name, Junior decides to appear more formal even though he technically doesn't have one and uses Azusa's surname of "Gojo".
  • Official Couple: He and Princess Luna become this in chapter 38 due to the two of them independently growing feelings for one another, realizing that they can be themselves around each other. While they keep somewhat quiet about it initially, they make their feelings for each other known in chapter 55.
  • Papa Wolf: Never hurt Chibi Moon. Ever.
  • Photographic Memory: A blog mentions he remembers every face he's seen, and he can recognize individual humans many years after he met them.
  • Power Source: Nuclear energy is his primary energy source, and all his energy based abilities are radiation and plasma based.
  • Psychic Radar: A Godzillasaurus has a "homing sense" that allows them to detect others of their kind.
  • Radiation-Immune Mutants: Played With: he can absorb radiation, barring extreme situations like what caused his father to go meltdown, but the 'New Era' story reveals, while able to be mutated by it, his species has some form of natural resistance to radiation on a genetic level. IE, he was already borderline radiation immune even before becoming a mutant.
  • Raised by Humans: While he did spend years under the care of his adoptive father, Godzilla Senior; he was partially raised by human caretakers at an institute. Which explains why he wasn't as culture shocked upon meeting the comparatively similar Equestrian society.
  • Red Baron: King of the Monsters; The Alpha Predator.
  • Red Right Hand: Played with. Godzilla is absolutely a hero, but his pony form just so happens to have a nasal ridge that's similar to King Sombra's. Together with him referring to himself as a king, this naturally sets anypony who knows their history on edge.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Granted his title as "King" is mostly metaphorical, but he's been effectively fighting a war for most of his life to keep the world spinning.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: He actually ponders the fact that Princess Luna is the only being he feels attracted to after awhile. Queen Maui, having read up on birds, reptiles, and dinosaurs, speculates that it's because most members of those types mate for life so his species is basically hardwired for a courting cycle before feeling an attraction. Luna is the first only one who fit the bill.
  • Strong and Skilled: The thing that makes him stand out from both his Mirror Universe self and his predecessors: he's considerably stronger than his father but has a huge degree of skill to actually apply that power with.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Seems to have carried over from his kaiju form into his new body, given he was able to spend quite some time at the bottom of a pond and was no worse for the wear. Later, it is explained that since he can survive off his stores of radiation, he doesn't actually have to breathe.
  • Super-Strength: Even by kaiju standards as he's about to throw down with and throw around much heavier foes. Some of this translates to his Equestrian form, which despite being a unicorn, is built like a tank. In his Equestria body he was able to fairly easily bruise his way through multiple royal guards and fight Princess Luna (who has the peak abilities of all three equine races, including Earth Pony strength) to a physical standstill.
  • Super-Toughness: In his true form, gyaos beams that can easily slice a building in half only barely cut through the first few layers of his scales. In his unicorn form, physical blows from the guards were a complete No-Sell and it took a full on beating from an enraged Princess Luna to even hurt him.
  • Superior Successor: Seems so. Godzilla Senior was barely able to take on Xenilla even with he and M.O.G.U.E.R.A. teaming up. Junior can fight Xenilla on even terms. Word of God confirmed Junior is more powerful than his father due to growing up into his mutation from childhood, as oppose to mutating as an adult and that Junior in his default is comparable to Burning Senior. New Era shows he's even capable of generating heat on par with his father's fire. The only thing Senior had Junior doesn't is the Red Spiral Ray until Junior gains it during the fight with Grand King Ghidorah and the Godzilla Dynasty use it to destroy the King of Terror for good.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Nightmare Godzilla after Nightmare possesses him.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Subverted. His unicorn form does have some handsome qualities, but he looks still a bit roughed up and needs to get cleaned up some to look nice, and is completely oblivious to his own attractiveness. Nevertheless, Blade Dancer describes him as being this trope, word-for-word.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Yellow iris with a red sclera.
  • Took a Level in Badass: We did see him kick some flank as a teenager in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. But now that he's fully grown up, he's easily surpassed his father in terms of power.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth:
  • Ugly Hero, Good-Looking Villain: He's the Ugly Hero to Grand King Ghidorah's Good-Looking Villain. He has jagged back spines, two rows of fangs, visible scars when he turns off his healing factor, dark scales, and yellow iris with a red sclera. Despite this, he's the heroic Kaiju and the golden-scaled Grand King Ghidorah is the evil one.
  • The Unchosen One: This is what makes him so interesting to Grand King Ghidorah. Unlike many of his comrades, he is not a Guardian Beast who was specifically created to fight Bagan or a divinely empowered natural guardian of Terra. He does not seem to have a special fate or destiny. He's just a mutated dinosaur who grew up to be a hero thanks to being raised by a kind ordinary biologist. To a fatalist like Grand King Ghidorah, this makes Junior a curiosity. One of the reasons Ghidorah challenges him is to confirm whether Junior is a being that can Screw Destiny or just a cosmic mistake that Ghidorah needs to "correct".
  • Upbringing Makes the Hero: His self-given duty to protect beings who can't protect themselves is a direct result of the love and kindness shown to him by his adoptive human mother. He even tells Grand King Ghidorah as much.
Junior: ”Because Azusa Gojo didn’t raise a monster.”
  • Walking Wasteland: As a kaiju, he emits radiation that would sicken and kill humans and ordinary animals if they got too close. Fortunately, he doesn't do this as a pony. Part of this is the Equestrians are adapted to the ambient magic of their world, so radiation doesn't really affect them.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Only compared to his Mirror Universe self. He's not as strong, but much more skilled with his abilities and in combat. He seems to have learned this aspect of his combat ability from Kong when he visited Skull Island as a child.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: He's aware of what love is, but has never experienced romantic love or had any need to learn what courting or flirting is. So when Blade Dancer tried both on him, he had absolutely no clue what she was doing.
  • Worf Had the Flu: His fight with Godzilla Earth goes as it does (with him being the second of the heroes to fall) in part because this was Junior from the early 2000s, not the much more experienced present one who is far, far more better of a fighter. His present self is far more powerful, and the heroic Godzillas might not have needed Leviathan.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Once attacked, he has absolutely zero qualms about fighting back against Princess Luna. Considering there are just as many villainous female kaiju as their are heroic ones, we can assume he's never considered fighting females to be a taboo.
  • You Remind Me of X:
    • Captain Blueberry Frost's rowdy attitude reminds him of Raiga.
    • Mariner Moon reminds him of his younger self.

     Mothra Lea

Equestrian Form: Changeling Queen

  • Affectionate Nickname: "Lele" by Godzilla Jr.
  • Alien Blood: Notably has green blood rather than the normal red.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Has the combined life force of both Mothra and Battra, and thus has their combined powers and more.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Co-Leader of her faction and packing more ranged fire power than near anyone.
  • Badass Adorable: She's a giant fuzzy moth with rainbow wings and big sparkly eyes. She's also the most powerful living magic user on Terra, and killed DesGhidorah by herself not long after becoming an adult.
  • Barrier Warrior: She can create powerful forcefields to protect or seal in others. As a bonus, due to the differences between Terran and Equestrian magic, these forcefields cannot be broken with Equestrian magic no matter how powerful it is.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Since her mother once flew into space to stop a meteor, and her father had also prepared to fly into space, she could do it too.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Present in both forms and played straight considering she's one of the most benign souls on Terra. Her changeling form is a lot cuddlier looking than Chrysalis and her true form is a giant fluffy moth.
  • Benevolent Mage Ruler: Most proficient magic user back on Terra and The Heart of her group.
  • Beam Spam: Has more projectile attacks than the other kaiju roster and can fire them all at once.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Both in her true form (giant butterfly) and Equestrian form (Royal Changeling). Thankfully she's a benign example.
  • Chain Lightning: Can fire this out of her wings and electrocuted a large chunk of a gyaos flock.
  • Composite Character: While mostly taking from the Rebirth of Mothra version, but also takes the role of the Final Wars version of fighting and ultimately defeating Gigan during that battle (though Gigan merely fled after she destroyed all his recharge stations and blew off one of his forearms).
  • Cool Big Sis: To both the Terran kaiju and Twilight Sparkle. Funny enough, she acts like this to Godzilla Junior, even though he's three years older than she is.
  • Eye Beams: She can fire energy beams from her eyes. Their name, Prism Beams, suggests she got them from Battra.
  • Fertile Feet: Her presence promotes flower and blossom growth.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: After she learns how to shape-shift, she assumes an Alicorn form in public to avoid terrifying ponies who are still afraid of Changelings.
  • Fusion Dance: In a sense. The Earth was too weakened to recreate Battra, so it put his power into her instead. So in a sense she's a fusion of Mothra and Battra, being much stronger than either one.
  • Gender Flip:
    • Lea is a female version of Mothra Leo from the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy. Aside from gender, they're the same character. note
    • She's technically also a Battra, due to being the result of Earth being unable to reincarnate Battra properly and making her a fusion of the two. Battra is normally always male.
  • Glass Cannon: Her potential damage output exceeds all five other main kaiju, and she has good defense against energy attacks; but she is probably the worst at taking physical blows and lacks an active Healing Factor.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Her Alicorn disguise has several male ponies gawking and stumbling over their words.
  • The Heart: Is the most rational of her team and keeps the others down the right path because of it. This shows when between her and Godzilla, she politely arrives and talks with Twilight while Godzilla got into a massive brawl with Luna.
  • Hidden Depths: The hope filled and brainy member of the team has nightmarish, PTSD grade genetic memories caused by her own best friend.
  • Honor Before Reason: She sometimes becomes obsessed with doing all the work in protecting others.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Was this with Junior, now in Equestria he might still be heavier, but she's actually taller than him now.
  • Lady of War: Co-Leader of her faction and big player in all of its battles.
  • Hybrid Power: Due to being a fusion of the Mothra and Battra lines, she not only has all their combined powers, but unique ones exclusive to her resulting from the powers mixing.
  • Last of His Kind: In the distant past, the Mothra and Battra lines each consisted of a very large population of many different individuals. Then Bagan wiped out all but two: Lea's grandparents. Since Lea carries the power of both lines, she's essentially the last of two kinds. Played with, as her kind reproduces asexually and she could reproduce a new Mothra and Battra.
  • Legacy Character: She does have a personal name, "Lea", but the "Mothra" portion links to a lineage of mothers and grandmothers going back millennia.
  • Light Is Good: Is probably the most cuddly looking of the core kaiju and definitely one of the most moral.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Junior. No one knows one more than the other does and during all the battles the two are pretty much a platonic Battle Couple.
  • Mistaken Identity: Very briefly. Twilight mistakes her for Chrysalis at first, but Mothra quickly convinces her otherwise before it can go any further.
  • One to Million to One: As a Kaiju, she can turn into a swarm of hawk-sized moths. As an Equestrian, she can turn into a swarm of Breezies. Unlike Destroyah, she is in full control of each doppelganger.
  • Red Baron: The Guardian of Mortals.
  • Sanity Slippage: While in the Equestria Girls world, exposure the the Windigo's Hate Plague causes her to become progressively unhinged.
  • Shapeshifter Baggage: As a Changeling, she can change her form, but not her size or gender. This is shown when she attempts to turn into Twilight Sparkle (ends up looking like an older and larger Twilight) and Godzilla Junior (results in a gender flipped Junior).
  • Silk Hiding Steel: She might be a beauty queen and the smart one of her group, but do not underestimate her in combat.
  • The Smart Guy: Between her adeptness at magic, communication with humans; and centuries of Genetic Memory to draw experience from, Lea is the brains of the operation.
  • Squishy Wizard: Has an enormous amount of ranged firepower, and while not helpless in close quarters; she isn't a brawler like Godzilla or Anguirus.
  • Statuesque Stunner: In her Equestria Girls human form, she towers over Princess Twilight and is quite easy on the eyes.
  • Superior Successor: Resulting from her being born with the combined power of both the Mothra and Battra lines. Whereas her mother needed Battra's help to defeat Godzilla Senior, Lea is equal to the stronger Godzilla Junior.
  • Super Mode: Notably lacks it. In the Amalgam'verse version of Rebirth of Mothra 3's events, Junior's assistance allowed Lea to drive Grand King Ghidorah off without further complication. As such, there was no need for Lea to achieve the Armor Mothra form, as in the movie. Word of God has stated, however, she will eventually achieve it naturally. Whether or not it'll be during the story, however, is unknown.
  • Super-Speed: She can fly at Mach 2.
  • Telepathy: She can communicate with others this way.
  • Teleportation: Twilight Sparkle eventually teaches her how to do this, though she’s still a bit rough around the edges.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: Can fire one from her chest called the Buster Cannon, which is more powerful than Godzilla's Atomic Breath. She can't fire it for more than a few seconds.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: While comparing her to Queen Chrysalis, Twilight Sparkle noted that her eyes are much more appealing than Chrysalis'.

Equestrian Form: Earth Pony

  • Achilles' Heel: His belly and throat are not as armored as the rest of him. Downplayed in that they're still as durable as any kaiju's.
  • Adaptational Badass: Is much stronger than his canon self, who was pretty tough to begin with. In addition to some new powers he got, the clearest example is how his encounter with the Simian's Mechagodzilla went. In canon, Anguirus got curbstompped before Mechagodzilla's true power was revealed, in the Bridge, according to his bio, he managed to outright destroy it in single combat, even if he suffered a lot of injuries in the process.
  • Asleep for Days: How his Healing Factor works: he goes into a healing coma that can last for just a few hours to a few days depending on what he's healing FROM, which enables him to recover from mortal wounds quite easily.
  • Badass Normal: Only one of the core group with no projectile attacks and is entirely lacking in energy attacks. He also first awakened to fight Ghost Godzilla, who according to Word of God rivals or exceeds Grand King Ghidorah in power. According to his bio, he also destroyed the Simian Mechagodzilla during Final Wars. Even when he's brought down to pony form he's tough enough to knock some greed grown dragons down.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: As Garble's gang found out, the club on his tail can be swung around like a mace.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He's the first kaiju to transform back into his full form, and boy did he have good timing!
  • Broken Ace: Side material and Word of God state him being woken up 30,000 years early (as a result of Ghost Godzilla's attack) caused him to not grow to his full potential, explaining why his special abilities are so lacking. Had they not, he'd probably have been the strongest of the Guardian Beasts.
  • Bystander Syndrome: He ignored the pony camp being attacked by dragons at first, saying he only fights for his own kind (Kaiju). He changed his mind when he saw his reflection in a puddle and realized the ponies are his own kind. He also mentions that back on Terra, he didn't care about humans.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He clearly has a crush on Ki Seong, which Rarity immediately picks up on.
  • Establishing Character Moment: After a moment of conflicting thoughts and trying to think it's not his business, he turns around and rushes towards the campgrounds being attacked by the teen dragons. While he's still a pony.
  • Exploited Immunity:
    • Exploits the fact he's immune to fire by dragging Jeog (who can only be killed by fire) into a blazing cabin and holding her there until she burns to death.
    • It turns out this was how he beat the Simian Mechagodzilla: drag him into a volcano's magma chamber. As he'd already torn open a bunch of holes in its armor, including ripping off a forearm, this resulted in the magma flooding its internals and setting off its internal ammo stores while Anguirus was only healing and getting stronger.
  • Flawed Prototype: To a degree: he's the Prototype Guardian beast and potentially the strongest of them all, but due to being the prototype, the process wasn't as refined and thus he grew slower than his fellows, which contributed to him not having his full potential when he woke up.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: When he first awakened, he had a choice to absorb the rest of his mana crystals and gain his full potential, or use them to heal his wounded comrade Baragon. He chose to save his friend and he has no regrets.
  • Gentle Giant: He is a guardian beast after all.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Laid a complete beat down on Garble's gang and probably would have killed them easily if Gentle Leaf wasn't watching. He does kill the murderous Jeog to save Ki Seong by burning her alive.
  • Greeting Gesture Confusion: Rarity offers her hoof for him to kiss, but he has no idea what she is doing, so she retracts it. Hilariously, when she later explains it to him, he still refuses to do it.
  • Healing Factor: Usually much weaker than Godzilla's but can restore himself completely through heavy sleeping, even from what would otherwise be mortal wounds. However, absorbing a lot of heat and fire can heal him extremely quickly such as when fighting the Simian Mechagodzilla in the crater of Mt. Erebus.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: To trick Jeog, he poses as the murdered Cho Yon by wearing his wedding garment and fake antlers. Ki Seong notices how handsome it makes him look.
  • Homefield Advantage: Being the Guardian Beast of Fire makes Anguirus all but immune to fire and heat, and in fact they just make him stronger and heal him. As such, fighting in the middle of a fire or other intensely hot area tends to swing fights in his favor. This is how he kills Jeog, as she's weak to fire, so when he drags her into a burning cabin, he's able to pin her down until she's burned to ashes. He also defeated the Simian Mechagodzilla by dragging it into the lava chamber of Mt. Erebus, where he was healed and empowered by the lava while its damaged armor let the lava start leaking into its internals, ultimately destroying it.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He's the first part of the trope with Gentle Leaf being the second.
  • Immune to Fire: He's immune to fire, which he exploits to kill Jeog by dragging her into a burning cabin and holding her until she dies.
  • Kill It with Fire: He would have this power if he'd reached his full potential, but at the moment can only superheat his spikes. He reveals one way he can do this indirectly though: drag someone less fireproof than himself (which is most everyone) into a blaze and hold them there, which is how he kills Jeog.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Is one of the most durable of the kaiju and can move quick quickly when rolled up into the thunderball.
  • Make Some Noise: His sonic roar is powerful enough to blow back and bust the eardrums of a fully grown dragon.
  • Meaningful Name: His name (actually spelled Anghi'ras) means both 'A New Hope, Alpha,' representing his existence as the first of the Guardian Beasts and a new hope for the world.
  • No-Sell: Heat based attacks short of the solar flare grade breath attacks of Godzilla do just about nothing to him. Also, his hide is the sturdiest of the Terran Defenders, so this is common for him when trading physical blows with another Kaiju physically stronger than he is and still hold up fine. Even holding Jeog down in a burning cabin for an hour to make sure she's dead doesn't bother him.
  • Out of the Inferno: Response to getting hosed down with several streams of dragon fire? Calmly walk out of it unscathed.
  • Playing with Fire: He is the Guardian Beast of Fire. However, since he was awakened from his long hibernation prematurely, he does not have access to his full potential. The best he can do is superheat his spikes to enhance his physical attacks.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Roughly 77,000 years old, but sealed away and aging very slowly during it all.
  • Red Baron: The Guardian Beast of Fire; Guardian Beast Alpha; The First Success.
  • Relationship Upgrade: He and Ki Seong finally admit their feelings and kiss during Chapter 37.
  • Rolling Attack: As a Kaiju, he can curl into a ball and roll at his enemies in a move the humans dubbed the Thunder Ball. While he can't exactly curl into a ball as a pony, he does a leaping variant against Garble and his dragons.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: Was sealed away by his creators to protect the future world. Got woken up in 2001 to do just that.
  • Second Love: He this to Ki Seong, as she had a murdered fiance, Cho Yon.
  • Super-Strength: Even as a pony, he can knock down greed grown dragons.
  • Super Mode: While he hasn't shown it, Word of God has confirmed that all the Guardian Beasts have a similar form to Raiga they can assume if they get a big enough charge to temporarily obtain their true power they would have had had they not awakened prematurely. He finally deploys it against Eurus alongside Irys.
  • Super Prototype: Sort of. He's the prototype Guardian Beast, and if at full power he'd be the strongest of them, but he also grew the slowest due to the process not being as refined and thus awakened weaker than he might have otherwise been. Despite that, he's still pretty powerful in his own right and one of the strongest Defenders.
  • Super-Toughness: Outright stated to be one of the most durable kaiju in existence. Extremely sharp dragon claws and Destroyah's beam attacks only did scratch damage and even if you do hurt him, he's not only good at powering through it, but can basically recover from nearly anything short of outright killing him.
  • The Lancer: A non-rival example, but he fits the bill well.
  • Theme Naming: Word of God when asked for a human name for Anguirus the result was Garen, which means protector. Fitting his origin as a guardian beast.
  • Tongue-Tied: Tends to get this way around Ki Seong.
  • Tough Armored Dinosaur: He was created from the DNA of Tarchia and Polacanthus, two kinds of ankylosaur.

    Rodan

Rodan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/feeed64dea1d39a095251a05b3ce5e4e.png
"There is no 'fight or flight' with me, just fighting with flight."
Equestrian Form: Gryphon

  • Achilles' Heel: He's weakened by cold, though not to the extent Destroyah is.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Unlike his film counterparts, he's a heroic guardian from square one and the closest thing to antagonism that he caused was accidentally going out of control when he first awoke due to his seal being broken incorrectly. Even the Showa Rodan was an antagonist first before becoming a good guy.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Is physically and mentally the youngest of the group. Word of God states that whereas someone like Anguirus is mentally the equivalent to his late twenties, Rodan is about 18 or 19 at most.
  • Breath Weapon: A thermal energy flare called the Uranium Ray, one he can still manage to pull off after being morphed into a gryphon.
  • Claustrophobia: Discovers he's this after being shrunk down. Just waiting on the train to Appleloosa was enough for his skin to crawl, as being confined inside and not able to fully see the sky makes him feel very unnatural.
  • Cuteness Proximity: He thinks most ponies, regardless of if they are happy or trying to look angry, are adorable.
  • Dynamic Entry: Secured Garble's Butt-Monkey status by using him as a landing pad.
  • Feed It with Fire: Draws power from any thermal energy source actually, fire and background heat included.
  • Flash Step: Can do this in his Super Mode, moving so fast a sonic boom is the only way to tell he's moved at all.
  • Fragile Speedster: Has the highest flight speed of any kaiju and can easily evade most attacks, but his only body armor is on his chest and neck.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's powerful and smart enough to apply the principle of Thermal Expansion to solve a problem.
  • Giant Flyer: And the one with the largest wingspan and highest top speed no less.
  • The Heart: He's the youngest of the four Defender kaiju, and also the most optimistic and easy going.
  • Hot Blade: He can super heat his claws, making them extremely effective for slashing attacks.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: It takes him a while to figure out how to control his new body after he went from having four limbs to six.
  • The Idealist: Probably the most optimistic of the hero kaiju.
  • Legacy Character: He was named after the deceased Rodan from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II.
  • Lightning Bruiser: By far the fastest of the roster and can weaponize his sonic booms. In his Super Mode, he can move so fast that he can't be seen and can deal a lot of damage while doing so.
  • No-Sell: Most fire attacks save those with a specific mana force behind them. He can still get knocked around by the concussive force, but the heat does nothing but give him a power boost.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Catches the scent of a gyaos on Braeburn's wound and figures out that other kaiju have made it to Equestria.
    • Mixed with him being The Comically Serious one once he realizes he really is in the wrong Equestria.
  • Partial Transformation: Into a pterosaur-like gryphon, but still has his old powers. It leads to some hilarity with him being unused to having six limbs and four legs, half falling over when he tries walking.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Is only a few decades younger than Anguirus, but due to slowed aging while being sealed away; he came out young.
  • Red Baron: The Guardian Beast of Air; The Supersonic Phoenix; Guardian Beast Omega.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: Same 'production' line as Anguirus, being sealed away to awaken and protect the future.
  • Silly Rabbit, Cynicism Is for Losers!: Seems to abide by this ideal.
  • Stumbling in the New Form: The first time he attempts to stand up as a gryphon, he falls flat on his face, and continues to stumble awkwardly for a few chapters after.
  • Super Mode: Word of God has confirmed that all the Guardian Beasts have a similar form to Raiga they can assume if they get a big enough charge to temporarily obtain their true power they would have had had they not awakened prematurely. He finally uses it during the Final Battle of 'A Shimmer in the Dark', though in his Griffon form, when supercharged by Princess Sunset's magic.
  • Super-Speed: Is the fastest of all the Defender faction by a good margin, having been clocked at over Mach 4. No one really knows what his top speed in flight is. Applejack finds his Equestrian form's speed and maneuverability comparable to Rainbow Dash, and we later find she's completely right when he pulls off a fiery version of the Sonic Rainboom. When in his Super Mode, he can move so fast even the Shadowbolts of the Nightmare Army can't see him.
  • The Teaser: Appeared in an earlier chapter from Spitfire's POV, as a massive shadow in the clouds and a giant eye.
  • Wistful Amnesia: After his adventure in The Bridge: A Shimmer in the Dark, he is returned to the regular Equestria with no memory of his experience, but feels happy when he sees a sunset, vaguely recalling Princess Sunset Shimmer.

    King Caesar

King Caesar

Equestrian Form: Diamond Dog
"For hundreds of years I was sworn to protect those in need from forces outside of their own, and for millennium I have answered whenever I am called without fail. If mortals whom praise no evil are in danger of evil, I will help them. To where shall I go to assist?"

  • Adaptational Badass: While the original King Caesar was no slouch, this one is able to fight one on one with Dagahra, a kaiju that gave Lea trouble, and ultimately drive him away.
  • Attack Reflector: His eyes draw in energy blasts and reflect them back at double the force.
  • Been There, Shaped History: He co-wrote the book "Methods and Spells of Distance Dilation" with Clover the Clever and delivered the orphaned baby that grew up to be Princess Cadance to her adoptive parents. Cadance is the time displaced daughter of Princess Amore, and Caesar was the one who spirited her away from King Sombra's wrath a millennium ago.
  • Canine Companion / King of Beasts: As a Shisa, he has both canine and leonine traits. When sent into Equestria, his new body is an ornate looking Diamond Dog.
  • The Cape: One of the most upstanding and heroic kaiju. This is probably why Harmony chose him to aid the ancient Equestrians in the battle against Tirek.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: He's able to sense Tirek's sheer evil long before he sees him.
  • Hero of Another Story: The general implication is his deeds in Equestria occurred over a millennium before the other kaiju showed up. Word of God has mentioned he'll star in a prequel.
  • Good Counterpart: To Monster X. Both were originally mortals who volunteered to be transformed into kaiju in order to defend their homes. They're noble and stronghearted, and when they're not needed, they meditate in a stone chamber. Unlike X, Caesar's transformation was a complete success, he's beloved and revered by his people as a defensive guardian, and his chamber is a peaceful sanctuary.
  • Man Bites Man: He bit King Sombra's horn off during their final confrontation (it grew back).
  • My Greatest Failure: He arrived too late to save Princess Amore and her husband Bene Lyric from getting killed by Sombra.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: While saving the baby Cadance, he was able to steal King Sombra's spellbook, a wise move. However, when he was unable to destroy it, he decided to stash it in a hollow tree until he could get back to it. Unfortunately, he vanished from Equestria right after delivering Cadance to her foster parents. The book was eventually found and sold to Starlight Glimmer, starting her on her dark path.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's been around since roughly 1000 A.D.
  • Was Once a Man: His back story details that he was once a royal guardsmen living in Okinawa around 1000 A.D., who put his soul in the golem to protect the kingdom.

    Gamera

Gamera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gamera_redesign_by_pyrus_leonidas_da1jn3n.png

  • Bearer of Bad News: When Mothra and Twilight Sparkle briefly manage to contact him, he informs them about how Dimension Tide was fired by the humans, and how evil Kaiju like the Gyaos are now in Equestria.
  • Canon Immigrant: Originally from Daiei studios, unlike a vast majority of the cast which hail from Toho Company Ltd.
  • Healing Factor: He can gradually heal from injuries by using his stored mana.
  • Healing Hands: He can heal others by transferring mana to them.
  • Hero of Another Story: While his friends are stranded in Equestria, he's trying to keep the peace on Terra. Some of his story is shown in The Bridge: Humanity's Stand.
  • Irony: He's considered the Guardian Beast of Water despite mostly using fire and plasma as attacks.
  • Making a Splash: As the Guardian Beast of Water, water is his true element. According to Tarbtano, he creates flames by splitting water into oxygen and hydrogen and igniting them.
  • Playing with Fire: His main type of Breath Weapon. He can even fly by tucking into his shell and releasing jets of flame to spin like a Frisbee.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Like Anguirus, he was created and sealed away roughly 77,000 years ago.
  • Red Baron: The Guardian Beast of Water, Guardian Beast Beta.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: Like Anguirus, he was sealed away by ancient people to help humanity in the future until he was awakened to counter Ghost Godzilla.
  • Super Mode: While he hasn't shown it, Word of God has confirmed that all the Guardian Beasts have a similar form to Raiga they can assume if they get a big enough charge to temporarily obtain their true power they would have had had they not awakened prematurely.
  • You Are in Command Now: He reluctantly took up leadership of the heroic Kaiju until Godzilla and the others return. He is referred to as Godzilla's Regent.

    Raiga

Raiga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raigabridge.png
"Punch first, ask question, resume punching."
Equestrian Form: Siren

  • Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism: While many of her differences from Godzilla Jr. are because she was altered differently, a good number of them are actually due to her being a female according to Word of God. Her coloration is actually completely natural minus the red and the females only have one row of dorsal spines (though hers being more shark-like are alterations). Also, had she been the same variety as Godzilla Jr. with the same amount of energy absorbed, she'd probably be slightly larger than him.
  • Blood Knight: Is obsessed with fighting and actively seeks out foes. If there are no bad guys around, she'll drag one of her friends into a spar.
  • Boxing Battler: Due to her genetic modifications, unlike Godzilla, her arms are very well developed. As a result she primarily uses expert punch combos in close quarters combat. Enemy kaiju attacking something? PUNCH IT IN THE FACE!
  • Breath Weapon: Can fire a beam of electricity.
  • Canon Immigrant: Like Gamera, she's from a Non-Toho source.
  • Celibate Hero: Since she's so obsessed with fighting, she doesn't give romance much thought.
  • Dramatic Irony: Does not realize she's in the Mirror Universe at first, and thinks Equestria has merely warped her friends' personalities.
  • Explosive Overclocking: When her Wave-Motion Gun is initially slowly being forced back by the Mirror Godzilla's Red Spiral Ray, Raiga pours all her remaining power into the struggle to the point where her body starts burning and the pearls she uses to channel her power start cracking from the all the power she's channelling to force the struggle back against Mirror Godzilla just before the ensuing Beam-O-War detonates.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her hesitation and lack of confidence made her arrive too late to save Atlantis. That is why she is a Blood Knight and Leeroy Jenkins now.
  • Healing Factor: Hers requires her to absorb electricity to work.
  • Hero of Another Story: Is the lead kaiju in The Bridge: Sound of Thunder.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Is knocked out by Mirror Godzilla and severely wounded...then remembers her failure to save Atlantis, recovers consciousness and absorbs Manehatten's power Starlight and Lightning Dust had prepared for her to transform into her Super Mode, and comes back at Mirror Godzilla for round two.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: When she awakens in the body of a Siren, she doesn't know how her body works at first and it takes a bit of trial and error to figure out how to levitate.
  • The Lad-ette: Word of God and example shows, she doesn't have an ounce of femininity to her; being more a Boisterous Bruiser.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Her policy is to punch first and ask questions later.
  • Megaton Punch: Being juiced up with electricity amplifies her strength. By channeling her energy into a fist, she pulls off one hell of a right hook.
  • My Greatest Failure: In the past, she was unable to stop the Gyaos from destroying Atlantis.
  • My Name Is Inigo Montoya: Declares this right as she finishes charging and unleashing her Wave-Motion Gun on Mirror Godzilla Junior.
Raiga: I am quintessence, an element of life. I am Raiga, the thunder fang created by the storm matron. I am the second Guardian Beast, meant to safeguard the world and stop destruction! And I will not fail again!
  • Notzilla: She is often mistaken for Godzilla by humans, since she is the same size as and has a similar shape to him. To be fair, she is a genetically modified Godzillasaurus, so she is distantly related to him and is unofficially considered his cousin.
  • Psychic Radar: A Godzillasaurus has a "homing sense" that allows them to detect others of their kind.
  • Really 700 Years Old: From the same "production line" as the other Guardian Beasts like Anguirus and Gamera, making her over 70,000 years old.
  • Red Baron: The Guardian Beast of Quintessence, Guardian Beast Delta.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Since she's adapted to living in the deep ocean, she can see in the dark.
  • Sea Monster: While she is amphibious, Raiga is most at home in the water and resembles a marine dinosaur.
  • Shock and Awe: Her core power, able to both call down thunder bolts from generated storms as well as exert electricity from the red pearls on her body.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: When she gets going, she gets going!
  • Strong and Skilled: While not as powerful as Godzilla Jr., she's still got plenty of power to throw around and skilled in hand to hand combat to put it to good use. When her Super Mode gives her power comparable to Mirror Godzilla, she's capable of giving the Unskilled, but Strong kaiju a pretty nasty beating in close quarters and nearly kills him.
  • Super Mode: When super charged by an entire city's worth of power, she gains Instant Runes all over her body and becomes powerful enough to overpower Mirror Junior (who is a good deal stronger than his prime self, albeit less skilled). According to Word of God, this is her true form she was intended to have awakened in when Bagan returned and all the Guardian Beasts have a similar form.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy to Lea's more feminine side. They apparently don't get along too well.
  • Trapped in Another World: She arrived in the Mirror Universe, where the villains she is used to fighting are the heroes and her closest friends are homicidal maniacs.
  • Unexpected Character: To the point of being an unknown. Being a Canon Immigrant from a lesser known kaiju film far outside the more popular Daiei and Toho rosters, many readers mistook her for an original character at first.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: Uses an enormous stream of mana charged lightning to fry Agon down to the bone in seconds. This attack is strong enough to almost match Mirror Godzilla Junior's Red Spiral Ray when Raiga is in her Super Mode, and when she pours more energy into it manages to overpower and severely wound him.
  • Weather Manipulation: Can summon and control storm clouds.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Pulls this on Mirror Godzilla to protect Manehatten from him. She survives, thanks to Starlight.

    Zilla Jr.

Zilla Jr.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zilla_junior_by_pyrus_leonidas_d8o6a03.png

  • 100% Heroism Rating: New York adores him, to the point merchandise of him is very common and he's considered a living landmark of the city.
  • Adaptational Badass: While the original Zilla Jr. was tough, this one is even tougher, being scaled up from 50 meters to 80 meters. He also takes the high end of the varying strength and durability from the series as he default strength.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Throughout the franchise, Godzilla and Zilla was always at odds with each other. Here, Godzilla Junior and Zilla Junior are close allies and friends, to the point of having a brotherly relationship.
  • Ascended to Carnivorism: Is mainly a carnivore despite being mutated from a herbivorous iguana, much to the bafflement of many researchers.
  • Berserk Button: Threatening any humans around him, especially his adoptive father.
  • Breath Weapon: He can fire a stream of burning, radioactive napalm. He can only do it roughly once a day and it hurts his own tongue when he uses it.
  • The Champion: New York's dedicated giant defender.
  • Does Not Like Magic: While he has nothing against Gamera and Mothra, he's uncomfortable around magic, claiming that at least his own abilities make sense.
  • Foil: To Godzilla Junior, as they are both heroic reptilian kaiju who are the offspring of destructive kaiju and raised by human scientists, and their powers exceed those of their respective parents. However, Zilla Jr. is carefree compared to the serious-minded Godzilla Junior, and their breath weapons function differently. Unlike Godzilla Junior, Zilla Jr. has more grasp in wordplay or figure of speech due to being more familiar with human media. Also, Zilla is a lizard while Godzilla is a dinosaur.
  • Happily Adopted: As in Godzilla: The Series, he's quite close to his adoptive father Nick Tatopoulos, referring to him as "Dad".
  • Hero of Another Story: In The Bridge: Humanity's Stand.
  • Hero-Worshipper: He's this to Titanosaurus. He says he learned how to fight and maneuver in water by watching her.
  • Legacy Character: He's the son of the creature from Godzilla (1998), being directly based on the hero from Godzilla: The Series.
  • Lightning Bruiser: The fastest of the terrestrial kaiju and still pretty strong.
  • Lovable Lizard: While he's a lizard resembling a carnivorous dinosaur, he is one of the heroic kaiju and generally quite pleasant towards his allies.
  • Nature vs. Nurture: As with Junior, being Raised by Humans made him ultimately become the Protector of New York where his mother was more or less a giant rampaging animal.
  • Number Two: While Gamera is in charge, he serves as his right hand. He was fourth in command of the Defenders before the main group were sent to Equestria, sharing the position with Rodan.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: He once fought off the Cloverfield monster on his own.
  • Raised by Humans: Much like his canon self from Godzilla: The Series, he was raised under the care of humans since his hatching, with and Nick Tatopoulos as his adoptive father and Miki Saegusa as a mother figure. This is another reason he and Junior basically became fast friends.
  • Red Baron: "The Protector of New York"
  • Required Secondary Powers: Lacks a few. His own Breath Weapon hurts his tongue when he uses it and since it is a physical substance instead of energy, he can only use it as much as his body can produce it.
  • Superior Successor: Due to not hatching prematurely like his mother and siblings, he's much stronger than his parent, to the point ordinance that killed his mother failed to seriously hurt him as a juvenile.
  • Super-Speed: Can run and swim at about 400 miles per hour.
  • Upbringing Makes the Hero: Being raised by humans led to him becoming one of their greatest defenders.
  • Worf Had the Flu: According to Word of God, the fight with Godzilla Earth went the way it did because he and Godzilla Jr. were comparably younger, weaker, and less experienced than they are in present. Had they been their current, far stronger selves, the heroic Godzillas might be able to beat Godzilla Earth.

"If I had been really fighting, then winning would be a physical impossibility for you."

  • Aloof Ally: Although she will defend the planet from threats, she doesn't really like hanging out with others. She has a soft spot for a few like Obsidius and Tytanna.
  • Break the Cutie: In her backstory, she was mind-controlled by a mad scientist into attacking others, and the experience has traumatized her. Then she had to watch Obsidious die in front of her.
  • Gender Flip: Titanosaurus is usually considered a male monster by the Godzilla fandom, but she is female here.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Oh a weird sorts. She technically isn't a Defender kaiju and during the Mutation-Defender conflict she actually either stayed neutral or threw her lot in with the Mutations due to hating humans. Now she at least is neutral again with a Defender leaning on account of Tytanna.
  • Parental Substitute: First to Obsidious, then to Tytanna.
  • Super-Scream: She has a sonic scream attack.

    Gabara II.

Gabara II., Gabara the Modern

"I'm going to stay here and catch up on my Tanaka-damned sleep, and nothing you say can convince me otherwise."

  • Adaptational Badass: Simply by existing in the real world in the first place instead of only being an fear imagination. Aditionally, his electrical powers are far more diverse and potent, enabling him to execute various offensive and defensive moves as well as seemingly mundane, but highly effective maneuvers. When channeling anger- and hatred-based mana instead of fear-based mana, his lightning bolts change their color from blue to red, making them ''far'' more powerful.
  • Astral Projection: Decidingly less powerful than his ancestor, but he is still capable of leaving his physical body behind and scanning his sourroundings via his spirit. He notes that he can only 'see' the individual emotional outlines of other kaiju.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Compared to the original Gabara, he looks a lot cleaner and nicer with an upright posture, even build, shorter snout; and normal eyes.
  • Blessed with Suck: Fear is the only thing he can eat, and without it he will disappear. He also has to deal with the limitations of having a physical body, which he is not used to.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He is a fairly powerful & skilled kaiju and more than capable of throwing hands with bigger and stronger opponents...if he can get coerced to leave his cave in the first place.
  • Composite Character: In a manner of speaking: Ishiro Miki is a descendant of the first Gabara and absorbed the latter's essence afte he tried to possess the boy, in turn transforming Ishiro into the second Gabara. In the movie AllMonstersAttack, Gabara was merely an imaginated dream manifestation of Ichiro's fear of his bullies.
  • Dream Walker: He used to be an incorporeal demon who would invade children's dreams to terrify and feed on their fear, until he was forced into a physical body.
  • Emotion Eater: He feeds on fear. He prefers the fear of someone fighting to survive. It's revealed that it's not technically the fear generated he feeds on, but rather the mana said fear generates, as he's actually a type of fae.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Most of the Defenders can't stand him because of his lazy attitude and previous villainy.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He's not enthusiastic about it, but he joined the Defenders after gaining a physical body to survive.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He slowly warms up to Gorgo and sympathizes with him. Turns out the good heart was always there, just a bit buried by what's left of the original Gabara who he destroyed.
  • Lazy Bum: He prefers to sleep and loaf around instead of fighting the forces of evil.
  • Legacy Character: Is the second Gabara. The original, Gabara the Ancient, was his ancient ancestor. After being killed by Godzilla Junior, Gabara the Ancient tried to possess the human Gabara the Modern used to be, but he turned the tables.
  • Mundane Utility: Zapps himself in the foot with his lightning to wake up faster.
  • Odd Friendship: With Gorgo.
  • Oh, Crap!: As he tries to sleep during the invasion of Solgell, he is shaken awake by the other kajius trampling over his cave and someone knocking at his cave entrance, moving him to give them a piece of his mind about the disturbance. His demeanor shifts significantly when he realizes its Orka standing at his doorstep, as she is mostly immune to his electrical attacks and also a bit bigger than Godzilla Junior, meaning she absolutley towers over Gabara.
  • Oni: What he actually is.
  • Redeeming Replacement: He might be a Lazy Bum that has caused some problems, but he's undoubtedly an improvement over the original Gabara was an unrepentant, sadistic monster and murderer who terrorized the world for thousands of years.
  • Shock and Awe: He can electrocute things he is touching, create spheres of lightning, direct static shocks into his fists while punching, and fire beams of electricity towards his enemies.
  • The Power of Hate: So far the only positive example in this story: While utilizing the mana won from anger and hatred instead of fear, Gabara discovers that his electric attacks gain a notable surge in power, allowing him to knock both Zedus and Agon off their feet, sending them flying quite the distance. In contrast to other examples found in this universe, Gabara experiences no kind of immediate drawback from employing this kind of offensive maneuver. The shock of this discovery, however, leaves him wide open for Megaguirus to stab him from behind, forcing Gomora to intervene to save him.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: Gabara the Ancient tried to possess and take over Ichiro. Ichiro turned out to be too strong willed and fought back due to his hatred of bullies, resulting in him destroying Gabara the Ancient and replacing him.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Ichiro was an innocent boy who hated bullies. While Ichiro's personality overrode the original Gabara's, the parts that survived turned him into a lazy jerk.
  • Was Once a Man: He was once a human boy named Ichiro (most likely Ichiro Miki from AllMonstersAttack), until he was possessed by the original Gabara.

    Orka and Gorgo

Orka and Gorgo

  • Adaptation Name Change: The mother's name is changed from Ogra to Orka, to avoid confusion with Orga, who is also in the universe.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Orka ends up fighting Junior in a misunderstanding. This lasts until Junior finds out what she's trying to do and returns Gorgo to her.
  • Mama Bear: Orka arrival in London was in search of her kidnapped baby. She was also capable of fighting Junior to a relative standstill until he was able to catch her off guard with his atomic ray. Later, she considered separating Gorgo from Gabara until seeing that her son is not in any danger and, to her surprise, actually getting along well with him.
  • Momma's Boy: Gorgo is quite close to his mother Orka.
  • Odd Friendship: Gorgo ends up making friends with Gabara.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Gorgo doesn't really understand Gabara's sarcasm or human figures of speech.
  • Super-Strength: Orka is capable of physically matching Godzilla Junior, at least when enraged and trying to find her son.

    Baragon

Baragon

  • Adaptational Species Change: He was originally a dinosaur, but was changed into a therapsid due to his mammalian features such as external ears.
  • Breath Weapon: Has his Showa era breath weapon.
  • Combat Parkour: Is a very agile kaiju, and combined with his tunneling ability can easily outmaneuver enemies via a combination of acrobatic moves and burrowing.
  • Composite Character: Has an altered version of his Millennium origin and personality, but all the powers of his Showa Era self.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Guardian Beast of Earth, comes with the territory.
  • Red Baron: The Guardian Beast of Earth, Guardian Beast Epsilon.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Only appears briefly in flashback in the story proper and is mentioned, but he was the one who awakened Anguirus and was subsequently given the mana crystals surrounding the Alpha Guardian Beast he could've absorbed to regain more of his power to save Baragon after Ghost Godzilla nearly killed him.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Survived this universe's version of GMK by burrowing away under cover of Ghost Godzilla's beam. It was decidedly a close call, however.
  • Super Mode: Like all Guardian Beasts, he has one he can enter if powered up to the point of temporarily obtaining the power he would have had had he not awakened prematurely.
  • Tunnel King: Is the Guardian Beast of Earth, and thus is very adapt at digging. Enough so to borrow all the way from his brush with death against Ghost Godzilla to Anguirus's resting place while critically injured. Lampshaded by Junior, who notes he apparently brings up digging a good deal. During his fight with Zedus in Humanity's Stand, he shows he can do so very quickly and easily outmaneuvers him.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Pulled this on Ghost Godzilla to let humans evacuate.

    Gomora

Gomora

  • Ascended Extra: Was mentioned in passing from multiple other characters until he eventually got his own side-story.
  • Anti-Hero: Played with. While he tradtionally has the morals to stand with the defenders, his behavior and partial apathy of not seeing the bigger picture when it comes to the lives lost in Tasakmalya makes it difficult to see him as anything less.
  • Bash Brothers: Is this with his Best Friend Rei, who both view each other as extended family.
  • Determinator: His defining trait, even going so far as to say "giving up" isn't a word in his own vocabulary.
  • Destructive Savior: Fights four Anteversers in Tasikmalaya, but due to inexperience results in causing a lot of unnecessary destruction, including damaging Tactic Ronin and injuring the pilots. Due to having no idea how Kaiju Blue works, he ends up spreading it over the entire city. However, while all of the Defenders can be this, Gomora doesn't actively try to limit the damage he causes like they do, resulting in a lot more destruction than necessary. This gets him, and Rei, royally chewed out and it's noted the GDF has a very bad opinion of him due to his tendencies for this.
  • Eager Rookie: Gomora is glad to be part of the Defenders and fight bad guys...but he's an overeager rookie who isn't as experienced in limiting damage as the others.
  • Friend to All Children: Is this with Gorgo, but it's been outright confirmed Gomora adores kids and will snap someone like a twig if someone hurts them.
  • Hero of Another Story: Is this in The Bridge: Incomplete Struggle
  • Leeroy Jenkins: He wants to do the right thing, but can be extremely reckless and get himself into trouble and cause a lot of damage in the process. During Final War, he tried to fight X, and got beaten into the ground.
  • Made of Iron: Played with, while Gomora himself isn't as durable as his fellow defenders, the dude has learned to take a hit from opponents far stronger than he is. Examples include surviving his battle with X and his fight against the Antverse kaiju.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Subverted: his Super Oscillatory Wave is actually changed slightly so its name actually
describes it. In this case, his horns oscillate to generate the attack.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Is a clone of an extinct species of Titan and was sealed away in a time capsule deep underground which allowed him to survive the Toba Catastrophe. While he is thousands of years old, mentally and physically speaking he is in his early 20s.
  • Papa Wolf: Is this with Gorgo. Anybody who lays a finger on the kid is going to face his wrath if Orka doesn't get to them first.
  • Red Baron: The Subterranean Knight or hilariously enough, 'Ding-Dong'
  • Tail Slap: As in canon, this is his primary move.
  • True Companions: Is this with his best friend Rei. Ever since 2006, the pair have been inseparable, taking both the wins and losses together. Even seeing each other as extended family and blood brothers.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Raiga gives him one for how he handled the situation in Tasikmalaya. He's grounded and forced to stay at the Defender's HQ until further notice by Raiga.
