The Main Characters

    Wendy Marvell
"I could use a friend. Can you help me with that?"

Known to other Guilds as the Sky Maiden, Wendy Marvell is one of the protagonists of the original Fairy Tail, and serves as the protagonist of The Tale of the Sky Maiden. She was the sole survivor of the Tenrō Island Incident, alongside her Exceed, Charle. Riddled with grief, Wendy returns to the Guild alongside Doranbolt, in order to make the best of her life.

Wendy is the foster daughter of the Sky Dragon Grandeeny, and is capable of using the Sky Dragon Slayer Magic as a result; this magic gives her the physiology of a dragon, and allows her to manipulate and devour wind, as well as cast powerful supportive spells.

  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Wendy can eat the air. According to Charle in the original manga, it is delicious.
  • Blow You Away: Wendy is the Sky Dragon Slayer, and the most basic application of her skills is the ability to manipulate wind.
  • Break the Cutie: Oh good lord. Wendy had already gone through enough in the original series, but Tale of the Sky Maiden starts off torturing her. Acnologia's attack on Tenrō Island, which killed off everyone and left Wendy alone, is the newest source of Wendy's grief and continued misery. Her sense of happiness and cheer vanished with Acnologia's attack.
  • Breath Weapon: Almost literally. Like all Dragon Slayers, Wendy possesses this as an ability: in her case, it is a massive blast of wind expelled from her mouth.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Wendy, as a protagonist, differs severely from Lucy. While both are very kind and sweet by nature, Wendy is weighed down by emotional baggage that is damn near crippling, while Lucy was not. Wendy's magic can be applied to direct combat as well as support, and allows Wendy herself to be a fighter; Lucy's magic required she let the spirits do the work. Wendy is also relative nobody when the story begins, while Lucy is the daughter of the president of a massive conglomerate.
  • Declaration of Protection: Wendy declares her intention to never allow anyone to get hurt, after Doranbolt's battle with Bobbie.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Averted. The scar Wendy acquired is a rather nasty one on the side of her body, a far cry from the clean and noble scars normally associated with 'good' characters.
  • Healing Hands: The Sky Dragon Slayer is capable of healing others, though not themselves. Wendy first uses it in the Tale of the Sky Maiden to heal Charle.
  • Hates Being Alone: Wendy has developed a severe case of this. After the destruction of Tenrō Island left Wendy and Charle alone, Wendy panicks at night if she wakes up alone, to the point that Doranbolt had to sleep in her room at the foot of her bed.
  • Healing Winds: The principle of Wendy's healing magic; it uses clean air to facilitate its healing power.
  • Hidden Depths:: Despite her relative lack of battle experience in comparison to the main cast, Wendy was able to concoct a plan that utilised the best strength of her comrade to retrieve Robin's hat. She does confirm that it was only due to everyone's help that it worked, but it still worked.
  • The Leader: Not a role that Wendy intentionally takes up, and when the chips are down, commands typically fall to others. But Wendy has shown a talent for commanding, and typically decides the plan of action. Her group is even called Team Wendy.
  • Power-Up Food: The very air serves as this to Wendy; a Sky Dragon is able to eat the air itself, replenishing themselves and using it as a food source. According to Charle in the original manga, Wendy says it tastes delicious.
  • Prone to Tears: Even moreso than she was when originally introduced in the manga. Due to the trauma of losing everyone during the S-Class Test, and being unable to properly cope with it, it is very easy to bring Wendy to tears.
  • Red Mage: Sky Dragon Slayer Magic allows Wendy to use Enchantment, Healing Arts, and powerful offensive spells.
  • Scars Are Forever: Wendy acquired a scar that stretches from her ribs to her hip during her battle with Robyn. Because it was an injury delivered by a fellow Dragon Slayer, and Wendy was unable to speed up her healing via consuming the "sky", the wound left a scar that will not heal properly.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Wendy has gone through a lot. No biological family to speak of, her foster mother left her without so much as a word, and the guild that raised her for years vanished, turning out to have been fake. Then, when Wendy finally becomes a member of the Fairy Tail guild and goes on the S-Class exam with everyone, Acnologia arrives, destroys the island and everyone on it, leaving Wendy alone for the first time since before she met Mystogan. Emotionally, Wendy is shattered.
  • Vacuum Mouth: How Wendy eats the air appears to be this way, by 'sucking' it in.

    Doranbolt
"Wendy, I can't presume to ask for forgiveness. However, what I can do from this point forward, is do whatever I can to help you! Whether you treat me as a shield, or a tool, it makes no difference to me. I must repent and this is the only way I see myself making up to what cruel fate I abandoned you to. Please, take me if you'll have me, or tell me you don't wish to see me again. Just say the word and I'll do anything to make it right!"

One of the Protagonists of Fairy Tail, Doranbolt once masqueraded being 'Mest', a Mage of Fairy Tail. Now with his identity cast aside, the agent of the Magic Council now endeavors to help Wendy Marvell any way he can to make up for the cowardice and shame of leaving her guild to their unfortunate fate to Acnologia. He, alongside Charle, are the first members of Team Wendy.

His magics are Memory Alteration - a Magic that alters the memories of anyone he's been in close proximity to - and Teleportation - allowing him to instantly appear from one space to another -, the latter of which is his trademark ability he's most known for.

  • Big Brother Instinct: Doranbolt has this for Wendy Marvell.
  • Determinator: Doranbolt is very tenacious. During his battles with Handsome and Brutalia, albeit aided by Wendy's Enchantments, Doranbolt pushes his magics past their limits, teleporting Handsome to a nearby mountain-range while wiping his memory, and luring Brutalia high into the sky in a brilliant feint. Each time, Doranbolt suffered severe injuries — even eating a whole hat while fighting Brutalia — but he refused to stop fighting.
  • Deep Cover Agent: What Doranbolt was, when he acted as Mest during the story's preceding event the S Class Trials; initially The Reveal in the original manga, the Sky Maiden operates under the assumption the audience already knows this. Macao himself blatantly states it to Doranbolt, who doesn't refute it, but questions why Macao would blow his cover if he really is an agent of any sort. Doranbolt no longer acts as someone undercover.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Doranbolt devours the Generous Robin's hat, showing that his habit of eating strange things when masquerading as Mest may not have been entirely an act.
  • Fake Memories: Doranbolt's Memory Alteration allows him to give false memories of anyone he chooses; he's even done this to himself, but has since remembered who he really is.
  • I Gave My Word: Doranbolt seems to be very big on this, at least in regards to Wendy. Wendy herself exploits it, not in a negative way, but to ensure Doranbolt's safety. His first big promise to Wendy was to be her friend, a promise made in a moment of emotional turmoil. But twice, Doranbolt has promised Wendy he would come back from battle — and each time, that promise to Wendy carried him back to her.
  • Lesser of Two Evils: Defied. Macao presents this option to Doranbolt; erasing Wendy's memories of her friends and the Sirius Island event to ease her pain...at the expense of taking away her previous experiences with Fairy Tail. Doranbolt flatly refuses to do this.
  • Mind Wipe: Through Memory Alteration, Doranbolt has made everyone at Fairy Tail forget whom he really was; only Macao, and likely Wakaba, seem to know who he used to be.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Doranbolt does this in Chapter 2, when he provides a convenient solution to Wendy needing to go back to her guild.
  • Redemption Quest: Doranbolt seeks this for failing to act when he could for a guild he pretended to be a part of.
  • Teleportation: Doranbolt's trademark magic is Teleportation.
  • Teleport Spam: A popular technique for Doranbolt is to use his magic in successive bursts.
  • The Atoner: This to a T. Feeling responsible that the worst came to be for Fairy Tail, Doranbolt seeks to atone for what he's done by helping its solve survivors, Wendy Marvell and her Exceed friend Charle, to keep what remains of their guild intact.
  • Use Your Head: A very effective one against Brutalia. She felt it far more than he did.
  • Weaponized Teleportation: Doranbolt is skilled enough for a movement technique to be turned into a dangerous weapon.

     Charle
Wendy's Exceed companion, Charle is a female Exceed who is the daughter of the Queen Shagotte from Edolas. She is Wendy's oldest friend, and saves the young girl from drownining in the raging ocean at the beginning of Tale of the Sky Maiden. She, alongside Doranbolt, are the first members of Team Wendy.

As an Exceed, her magic is Aera, which allows her to sprout wings and fly. She also, however, is capable of seeing visions of the future at random intervals.

  • Flight: As an Exceed, Charle is capable of flying. She uses this to save Wendy's life.
  • The Load: Charle, in the early arcs, is the least useful member of Team Wendy. Because their numbers are stretched thin, Charle participates as an active fighter, when she would normally be support. She quickly suffers critical injuries is confined to hospital for a short time. When she recovers, Wendy insists she remain behind to protect her. Charle reluctantly agrees, but the separation is hard on them both.
  • Prophetic Fallacy: Early on, Charle has a horrible vision of Wendy's gruesome death. The vision itself doesn't give her all of the details, namely the killer or the situation, and is shown from the point of the observer, yet it isn't clear if Charle is even there. Mercifully, Charle manages to avert this future with her own hands.
  • Seers: Just like in canon, Charle is capable of seeing into the future, an ability inherited from her mother, Shagotte. Thus far, the ability has only shown Charle one horrible future.
  • Spell My Name With An S: There are multiple ways to spell Charle's name, and none are completely incorrect; Carla, Sharl, Charles, among others. This story opts for Charle.

Fairy Tail

    Macao Conbolt
The interim Fourth Master of the Fairy Tail Guild, Macao Conbolt is a veteran member of the Guild, and the father of Romeo Conbolt.

His Magic is called Purple Flare, creating a sticky fire which clings to objects.

  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: Macao suggests this to Doranbolt, asking him why he doesn't wipe Wendy's memories of the Tenrō Island incident to spare her the pain of mourning her friends.
  • Cool Old Guy: While not 'old', being only in his 30s, Macao is one of the older members of the Guild, and is as reasonable an authority figure as one can be.
  • Manly Tears: When Wendy, Doranbolt, Charle, and Max all volunteer to take on an S-Rank job for the sake of the guild, Macao breaks down crying.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Macao runs the Guild as well as he can, knowing that he is merely filling the shoes of someone much more qualified. In spite of this, when Macao has to act like a leader, he does so very well, and is a kind Fourth Guild Master.
  • Technicolor Fire: Purple Flare speaks for itself.

Lamia Scale

    Sherria Blendy
Sherria Blendy is the younger cousin of Sherry Blendy. Not a member of Lamia Scale as of the start of the series, Sherria does live with her cousin in the Guild building.
  • Children Are Innocent: Sherria starts the story as a bright-eyed, innocent eight-year old, and is very positive and outgoing. Her positive attitude is at a direct contrast with Wendy, who had just experienced a traumatic event on Sirius Island. Sherria becomes the first of many people to lift Wendy up after the events of the S-Class Exmanination.
  • First Girl Wins: While not in the scope of the series itself, in the scope of the overall fanfic, Sherria is the first girl — and first person, no less — that Wendy encounters at the beginning of the fanfic. The story descriptor already spoils the two will wind up together at some point down the line.

Antagonists

    Acnologia
Acnologia is the Black Dragon who flies around the world, bringing destruction to wherever dark thoughts gather. He makes his debut appearance at the start of the fanfic, leading to the destruction of Sirius Island and to the deaths of every Fairy Tail mage but Wendy and Sherria.
  • Big Bad: As of the moment, at least, the overarching villain in the Sky Maiden is Acnologia. He is the source of Wendy's personal and emotion distress, and kickstarted the event that lead to the beginning of the series as it is.
  • Dark Is Evil: Acnologia is a dragon blacker than the darkest sky, and with an attitude as black to boot. He casually reigns destruction down on Sirius Island, destroying the island and Fairy Tail's best fighters in the process.
  • Dragons Are Demonic: One doesn't gain his reputation and moniker by being charitable. Acnologia is known from legend as being a fearsome and terrible dragon, and his introduction does nothing to soften this.
  • Red Baron: Acnologia's most well known moniker is the The Black Dragon in the Book of Apocalypse. This is not a name given lightly; destruction follows Acnologia wherever he goes.

Robin Hoodlums

    Handsome
Handsome is a well-dressed man, and a member of the Robin Hoodlums.

Handsome uses a rare form of Take-Over Magic, Inanimate Soul.

  • Blood Knight: Handsome loves himself a powerful opponent, to the point that being denied battle renders him as belligerent as a chain smoker who hasn't had a cigarette all day.

    Brutalia
Jennifer Baleus, also known as Brutalia, was a former member of the Legal Guild Watchful Seer in Bosco. She earned a reputation when she murdered several hundred hypnotised civilians to find the source of the hypnotism. Originally, Brutalia was the daughter of a noble family in Bosco, hence why she carries herself in a dignified manner and demands utmost respect. Her magic is a powerful form of Telekinesis.
  • Alpha Bitch: A villainous example, Brutalia is basically what happens when the Ojou from your average anime was given a massive amount of power, no checks, and was just raised poorly.
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride and whoo boy. It proves to be her undoing.
  • Mind over Matter: Brutalia's magic is a powerful form of Telekinesis.
  • The Starscream: Brutalia likes to think she is this. It does not end well for her.
  • Would Hurt a Child: To be fair, Runt is an adult, but she doesn't look the part. Regardless, Brutalia mercilessly beats the shite out of her.

    The Generous Robin/ Robyn Lazuli
The Generous Robin is an otherwise unnamed, androgynous young man who leads the Robin Hoodlums. He is the first antagonist of the series, opposing Fairy Tail when he leads a raid on Mercurius Castle in an attempt to steal the wealth of Fiore. Despite his young appearance, he is an exceptionally powerful mage, leading a group of other powerful mages who follow his orders.

His true identity is "Robyn Lazuli", a member of the affluent Lazuli family. He is also the Sea Dragon Slayer.

  • Badass Boast: Delivers a solid one to Brutalia.
Robin: I have very few rules, Brutalia. I expected everyone under my charge to follow them. Do not take more than necessary. Do not fight amongst yourselves. Do not attract unnecessary attention. Do not cause needless slaughter. And, above all else...do not betray me!
  • Bag of Holding: Robin's hat works this way, able to hold vast amounts of treasure — implied to hold the culmination of his years of thievery — inside what appears to be a standard witch's hat. It's bigger on the inside.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Despite his demure appearance and tendency towards kindness and benevolence, Robin is not to be trifled with. Brutalia found this out the hard way.
  • Combat Stilettos: Robin, capitalising on his feminine appearance, wears high-heeled boots.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: The first trait noted about the Generous Robin is that he is very beautiful, to the point that Max thinks he's a woman. Robin is quick to prove him wrong.
  • Expy: Robin is actually one of Cassim from Magi, a series both of the authors love.
    • Robyn also serves as one to both Gajeel Redfox and Juvia Lockser, being a water-wielding magic and a Dragon Slayer from an opposing faction to Fairy Tail, who would later go on to join Fairy Tail after a battle with one of the main characters, even being revealed in the same surprise-for-the-cast fashion.
  • The Fettered: Something Brutalia experiences firsthand. Robyn keeps his Sea Dragon Slayer Magic in-check intentionally, relying on his stave which makes him decently strong by itself. Stealing the stave did not help her when he flooded everything.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: His outfit is described as such, and given his personality, he most likely wears this intentionally.
  • An Ice Person: Through the use of his stave, Robin is able to generate cold temperatures and create ice spikes capable of shattering the vault of the royal kingdom.
  • Just Like Robin Hood: To the point that it is in the young man's title. Robin believes that he is uplifting the poor and impoverished by stealing from royalty and giving to those who need it. He refuses to see eye-to-eye with anyone in a position of authority and believes the worst of all of them.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Robyn is by far the most crass and perverted of the cast, hitting on any man he finds to be within his standards. Even as an antagonist, he was rating the male members of Team Wendy. To his current objection of affection, Jellal, Robyn is more an Abhorrent Admirer.
  • Little Bit Beastly: When channeling his Sea Dragon Slayer magic, he acquires scales, fangs, and fins. This seems to imply he is Second Generation.
  • Logical Weakness: As the Sea Dragon Slayer, it appears large amounts of heat weaken him. While unclear if this is the case, when preparing to go to Desierto, Robyn put on a utility belt full of water bottles, implying such.
  • Making a Splash: It turns out that Robin using the stave to create ice was a crutch. As he revealed to Brutalia when she attempted to betray him, he is in fact the Sea Dragon Slayer. Whether he is first or second generation is unknown.
  • Not So Above It All: Robyn, despite trying to maintain an air of dignity when he's not hitting on men, has revealed he's just as mad as the other people in Fairy Tail, willingly joining a brawl with the best of them to compete over who gets a vacation.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: What Robin tries to be. He treats his men well, and only resorts to violence or force when pushed.
  • Red Baron: The Little Blue Bird is his moniker, and don't take it lightly.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Robyn goes from an extremely revealing wizard's outfit with tights, gloves, and stiletto heels during his time as a bandit leader to a *slightly* more conservative robe after joining Fairy Tail. The robe still shows off his legs as much as he likes, and he kept the heels, but it reveals less of his arms and torso, settling now for revealing his stomach, where his Guild mark is.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: After joining Fairy Tail, Robyn is seen drinking frequently, despite the fact that he isn't yet old enough to drink at all. His time as a bandit has led him to play fast and loose with rules like these, and Fairy Tail being Fairy Tail, they don't stop him.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Robin, at his core. Brutalia elaborates on it: Robyn's goal is to found his own country, where those who suffer from misfortune can seek asylum and live better lives. Beyond his closest in the Robin Hoodlums, none are too happy with this revelation.
