Female Students
Sora
An amnesiac girl who woke up on Utsuroshima without any memory of her past, talent or even her name. She's got a motherly air about her and she hopes to try and keep deaths from happening.She's the victim of Chapter 4, having been killed by Yuri Kagarin, after which the protagonist role is given to Yuki.
- Amnesiac Hero: As stated above, Sora can't remember anything of her past or her talent.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Gets knocked out and has acid poured all over her body. Gross.
- The Hero Dies: Dies in Chapter 4.
- Idiot Hair: Has an ahoge, like all Danganronpa protagonists before her.
- Mama Bear: In the later chapters, Sora is not above threatening some of the more violent or perverted students to protect the softer ones.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Downplayed with her friendship with Yuki, with Yuki often making rude or snide remarks and Sora reprimanding him with an elbow to the stomach or a pinch on the arm.
- Cloud Cuckoolanders Minder: Is usually the one to bring her classmates back down to Earth when they're getting out of hand.

Vanilla Protagonist: Downplayed in the earlier chapters. Sora is rather motherly and kind, hoping to prevent murders if she can keep the group together. Once Chapter 3 hits, she starts thinking that murders will happen regardless of what she does and starts acting more volatile.
Iroha Nijiue
A girl with a dirty mouth, a pure mind and a sweet heart. She's fairly kind, if a little clumsy. And despite her frequent use of them, she doesn't actually know what swear words mean. Iroha has a fairly obvious crush on Nikei, who has his eyes set on her older brother, Mikado.One of the victims of Chapter 5, having received Mikado's suicide tape and trying (and failing) to kill Nikei after she caught him eating Mikado's corpse.
- Abusive Parents: Was constantly pushed to succeed by her mother and father, being made to take up several different hobbies like ballet and getting beaten whenever she didn't reach her parents' standards. All this was only exacerbated once her parents died and her sister, Akane, took over as "parent".
- All Love Is Unrequited: Is shown to have a crush on Nikei, despite the latter being into her big brother, Mikado.
- Driven to Suicide: Was contemplating drowning herself when Mikado first met her. Slit her wrists in reality due to Nikei's machinations, driving Mikado to code an Alter Ego of her in his grief.
- Hopeless Suitor: Considering the fact that Nikei is literally obsessed with Mikado to the point of eating his corpse in Chapter 5? Iroha never had a shot.
- Nice Girl: One of the nicer Betas in the group.
- Replacement Goldfish: The Iroha seen in the killing game is an Alter Ego made by the real Mikado after the real one killed herself.
Kokoro Mitsume
The airheaded Ultimate Psychologist with a big heart. She's a little on the flighty side, but she ultimately means well.The first culprit, poisoning Shinj Kasai, Ultimate Firefighter.
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Upbeat and airheaded, with some rather harebrained plans.
- Third-Person Person: Refers to herself like this quite often.
- Nice Girl: An airhead, but one of the nicer characters in the cast.
- Genius Ditz:
Word of God says she would have been very skilled at finding out culprits through very strange paths of logic no one would ever consider had she lived past Chapter 1.
Emma Magorobi
A bratty, bitchy, spoiled girl, the Ultimate Actress has a major temper and a major ego.The second culprit, slitting the throat of Hajime Makunouchi, Ultimate Boxer.
- It's All About Me: Has an ego the size of the sun and gets rather angry if you don't know who she is.
- Alpha Bitch: Expects everyone to bend to her will, and isn't afraid to verbally or physically abuse the others if they don't.
- Spoiled Brat: A major part of her character.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one to everyone at the end of Chapter 2's post trial, though it's more like a temper tantrum. Crosses over with Villainous Breakdown.
- The Starscream: Had plans to overthrow Mikado as leader of Void and killed Hajime when he refused to give up his own plans for the same goal.
- Hate Sink: In the midst of the other unlikable characters, Emma is actually fairly tame. However, she's still vain, bratty, violent and she has a horrible temper.
Male Students
Yuki Maeda
Yuki Maeda, the Ultimate Lucky Student, is... Abrasive, to say the least. He's blunt, he's distrustful and he's not afraid to call you out on your bullshit. Despite this, he's actually got a softer interior, if one were able to break his outer shell. One like a certain white-haired amnesiac...Is one of the students that lives to Chapter 5. Due to Nikei's plan, he votes incorrectly and is dragged off to execution along with Setsuka, Hibiki and Teruya.
- Idiot Hair: Has an ahoge.
- Running Gag: Yuki's headphones have been thrown in the ocean several times.
- Tsundere: He's less abrasive with Sora around , and he softens up more after she dies, but he's still pretty prickly around her. He does enjoy her company though.
- Born Lucky: Averted. Despite what his talent would have you think, he's not very lucky at all. From having his headphones being consistently thrown into the ocean to repeatedly losing a card game to seeing his crush's acid-melted corpse, Yuki is surprisingly misfortunate over the course of the killing game. This is because he is the other personality of Utsuro, who is anything but lucky.
Mikado Sannoji
A weak-willed, soft-hearted, and cowardly man. Despite this, he is also quite sweet. As the Ultimate Wizard, he is incredibly powerful... Not that he puts it to much use. The leader of Void, if only in name. Treats Iroha like his little sister.One of the victims of Chapter 5, having killed himself in an attempt to end the killing game.
- In Touch with His Feminine Side: Enjoys many a domestic activity, is a massive sweetheart and is fairly timid. He's also shown to enjoy wearing frilly dresses in private, his room is described as full of pastels and plushies and his shelves are filled with sappy romance novels, cookbooks and magical girl manga.
- Shrinking Violet: Mikado is not exactly the boldest person on the island.
- Bad Boss: Inverted. Rather than him constantly abusing his subordinates, his subordinates constantly abuse him. Emma and Hajime constantly bully him and Nikei has been manipulating him for years to keep him by his side. The only Voids who don't pick on him are his little sister, Iroha, and Nikei, who has his own issues. Downplayed with his real life self. While he's quite nasty to Hajime and Emma, he's fairly civil to everyone else.
- Beware the Nice Ones: While Mikado is quite the sweet and gentle soul, should you manage to get him angry, you had better start running.
- Inept Mage: Zigzagged. Mikado's not an Ultimate for no reason, but his magic is difficult to control when his emotions start going haywire.
- The Woobie: This man cannot catch a break... From Emma and Hajime constantly bullying him to his friends dying to his best friend turning out to be obsessed with him to having his mind almost broken in the real world... Poor baby. This is explained In-Universe as Mikado being affected by Utsuro's Misfortune.
- Expy: Of the canon Yuki Maeda. Both are cheery and kind boys who consistently get their optimism ground into the dirt as the game continues. They're also both the targets of their respective killing games, which were made to break them. Their forms in the real world are opposites; Beta!Mikado was mentally broken with his body intact while canon Yuki was nothing but a Brain in a Jar.
- Stepford Smiler: He's sweet, gentle, timid, kind and absolutely despises himself. This is shown to be a result of his intense need to help people and repeatedly failing to do so as well as Hajime and Emma being their jerkish selves. Nikei constantly making him feel worthless didn't help, especially as he was under the impression that Nikei just wanted to help him.
- A Lizard Named "Liz": Named his pet snails Kat, Tat, Su, Mu, and Ri. For reference, katatsumuri means snail in Japanese.
- Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: So nice, it's a little suspicious to some. However, he's just as sweet as he acts.
- Techno Wizard: Like in canon, the real world Mikado is an incredibly skilled programmer. He was able to create an almost perfect Alter Ego of his sister based on just his memories.
Nikei Yomiuri
A somewhat shy and introverted boy. Once he's set his mind to something, however, he will pursue it or die trying. He's gotten some of his best scoops this way, though Mikado, his best friend, insists on him not getting in over his head.Is one of the students that lives to Chapter 5. After Mikado kills himself, he managed to manipulate the others into voting wrong and almost got them all executed before Teruya saved them.
- Yandere: Is obsessed with Mikado to the point of stalking him, manipulating him into isolation, starting the killing game to find his adopted big brother and then kill him to make him completely dependent on him, and eating his corpse after he died.
- Childhood Friend Romance: Looks like this at first glance, what with him and Mikado being best friends since they were ten, Nikei blushing when talking about him and how easily they could be one. Averted once Nikei is revealed to be obsessed with Mikado.
- Manipulative Bastard: To say Nikei has a silver tongue would be underselling it. His plays make canon Nikei's look like child's play. He managed to settle himself as essentially the leader of Void without the others noticing, talked his way into getting a conversation with Yamato, got him on his side and started a killing game with his resources, almost successfully isolated Mikado from everyone and got Yuki, Setsuka, Hibiki and Teruya to vote incorrectly despite them all knowing about his true nature.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Tries to confess several times throughout the story, but always chickens out in the end. Considering what he's really like, that's probably for the best...
- Token Evil Teammate: The only outright evil member of Void. He's the true mastermind behind the killing game, he drove the real world Iroha to suicide, psychologically abused the other three members beyond belief to fulfill his own purposes, murdered Iroha's AI to keep her quiet, ate part of Mikado's corpse after he committed suicide and almost killed the other four survivors.
- Only Sane Man: Among the Voids, he's the most level-headed. It's quickly Averted once he's revealed to be obsessed with Mikado to a maddening degree.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: Fell in love and eventually became obsessed with Mikado after he saved him from being attacked by a gang and eventually befriended him.
Yuri Kagarin
Yuri Kagarin, rightfully mistaken as the opposite gender, has supposedly had a fascination with astronomy from a young age. He also has an infatuation with men and a hatred for women, for what reasons he has yet to disclose. Even with his distaste in females, nothing explains his feminine attire.The fourth killer, having dissolved Sora in acid alive.
- Deliberately Cute Child: Acts rather childlike and ditzy to make people underestimate him.
- Nightmare Face: The way some of his expressions are described will make you glad the blog is mostly just text.
- Establishing Character Moment: When he meets Sora and Yuki, he gushes over Yuki and actively spits on Sora. His next one is when he enters breakfast covered in blood and holding Hajime's severed head, acting like nothing is wrong.
- Freudian Slip: Inverted in a way, and what kicks off the string of logic that gets him convicted as Sora's killer. Beforehand, Yuri would throw a hissy fit whenever a boy was accused, but during Sora's trial, when Mikado is accused and about to be voted as the killer, he is suspiciously quiet.
- Ensemble Dark Horse Ironically, one of the fan favorites. Multiple things of fanart depicting him.
