Go To

The following are people who regularly appear on StephenVlog. They are all either members of the Georg or Weir families or friends of Stephen and Mal.

Tropes about the StephenVlog Regulars in general:

  • Seinfeldian Conversation: A trademark feature, as the vlogs cover what is going on in the lives of the stars. The infamous Carpet Debate is only one such example.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: This comes out mostly during gaming videos, but it is prevalent on the vlogs, as well. Alex and Hayley have this relationship with almost everyone.
  • World of Snark: They are quite the bunch.

    Stephen Georg

Stephen Georg

Stephen Georg is a YouTube content creator who runs both StephenVlog and StephenPlays along with Mal. He was born and raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and lives there to this day. He began creating YouTube videos in 2009 and has kept a near-perfect schedule since.

  • Cool Big Bro: Karley seems to see him as such enjoying to tease him and seeks his aproval just as much as Mal's.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Like most everyone regularly featured.
  • Fandom VIP: invokedIn the Mother community, having worked on Fobbies Are Borange, Loids Are Not Christmas, and Ninten Speaks.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Animals tend to react positively to him, and he says he's heard all his life from surprised pet owners whose pets are usually hostile to strangers, but not to him.
  • Gentle Giant: Stephen is 6'6".
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Very rarely swears.
  • Happily Married: To Mal since Day 620.
  • Hidden Depths: Has a great deal of expertise on cameras and filmmaking in general, to the point that the bumper he made for TRG Colosseum 2020 was compared to an Oscar submission.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: The Huge Guy to Mal's Tiny Girl.
  • Irony: Of the cosmic kind. He's really tall, and afraid of heights.
  • Laughing Mad: Downplays this at the end of surl.
  • One Head Taller: Than not just Mal but practically any person standing next to him.
  • Otaku: He is obsessed with space and EarthBound (1994). Also quite passionate about filmmaking and cameras, to the point that his streams have a counter for how many days it's been since he's talked about cameras on stream.
  • Real Men Cook: Generally leaves it up to Mal, as she enjoys it more, but he has promised to cook at least once per week.
  • Schedule Slip: invokedOccasionally happens when he goes on trips or have guests over, as the StephenPlays channel generally takes priority.
    • He missed entire days of vlogging during Year One, but nowadays he never misses; it's just a matter of when the videos actually come out.
  • Signing-Off Catchphrase: "Let's meet back tomorrow, shall we?"

    Mallory Georg

Mallory Georg

Mal is a former high school art teacher, originally from Wisconsin. She is fond of cooking and crafts projects.

  • Cool Big Sis: Appears to be seen as this by her younger friends.
  • Cool Teacher: As long as the students follow the rules she set they pass. Her rules are simple like; use colors, remember that material, etc.
  • Cunning Linguist: Especially when it comes to Japanese and French.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Not as much as some of the others on the vlog, but she has her moments.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: One of her hobbies.
  • Gamer Chick: Even better than Stephen if she dares to be.
  • Happily Married: To Stephen.
  • Hidden Depths: Whenever she says she's not very experienced at a two-player game, expect a Gilligan Cut to her beating Stephen at it.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: The Tiny Girl to Stephen's Huge Guy.
    • She's not tiny, but compared to Stephen most people would look short.
  • Otaku: She is really into space and the Mother series, just like Stephen. She also has an interest in art history.
  • The Pollyanna: Is rarely seen without a smile or an optimistic comment.
  • The Quiet One: She is very shy and generally lets Stephen do the talking.
    • Beware the Quiet Ones: Is skilled and a Hidden Badass.
    • Silent Snarker: The looks she sometimes gives people only adds to her snark.
    • Character Development: She has slowly grown much less shy since Breakfast Stream began, especially since she often has to cover the start of it single-handedly when Stephen is late. By 2024 she was even able to do Breakfast Stream alone when Stephen was ill.
  • Stoic Woobie:
    • Mal became this in hindsight when one vlog revealed she had been going through great stress at her high school art class teaching job, with some kids ignoring, insulting, and even threatening her and the school staff not doing anything about it to the point where she would come home crying. She eventually resigned after only working there for a few years, because it was just that bad. Luckily, Stephen, her friends, and of course the viewers have been there to support her.
    • Mal Has Endometriosis. She suffered silently for years without ever mentioning it to the viewers, but still was there when Stephen needed her. Stephen in turn, was there for her, and respected her boundaries, letting her talk about her problems in her own due time. Possibly counts as reciprocal acts of true love.
  • Take Your Time: She loves to casually explore and look for secrets in games rather than being urgently focused on plot progress, leading to contrast with Stephen's more direct style when they play games like Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey together.

    Dan Settembrini

Dan Settembrini

Dan was one of Stephen's SCAD roommates and frequently appears in the earlier vlog episodes. He is originally from Florida. He has a YouTube series called the Art School, based on made-up adventures from the guys' university days, and runs a couple of YouTube channels of his own. Since 2016 he has also edited videos for StephenPlays, specifically Memorable Moments and GTA Online.

  • Ascended Extra: While he was always a major part of the vlog from early on, he has become known to a much wider audience through TRG Colosseum and becoming an editor for other LP'ers as well as Stephen.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: "I AM DAN" was part of Stephen's joke messenger phrase when he was imitating Dan as part of a prank, but Dan himself has used it since then (and also "1962 Was A Long Time Ago" from the same video).
  • Butt-Monkey: Has been the subject of pranks a few times.
  • Catchphrase: "What do you think about [x]? Comment down below! Links in the sidebar!"
  • Deadpan Snarker: Occasionally inserts snarky text into the videos he edits, usually regarding Stephen's less-than-intelligent moments.
  • Toilet Humor: Very fond of scatological humor, as seen in Broken Picturephone.

    Alex Forsythe

Alex Forsythe

Alex was one of Stephen's college roommates as well, hailing from Alabama. He and Stephen met on starmen.net and decided to be roommates.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Easily the snarkiest of the bunch, with only Hayley giving him a run for his money.
  • Deep South: Him being from Alabama is often brought up.
  • Fan of the Past: Besides being interested in history in general, he now also runs the Golden VCR Twitch and Youtube channel, showing off old documentaries and the like found on VHS tapes.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Hayley.
  • In Case You Forgot Who Wrote It: Often makes fun of Stephen for putting his name in everything.
  • Official Couple: With Hayley.
  • Reverse Psychology: Whereas Stephen's other friends try to sincerely talk him out of his workaholic habit of embarking on long and overly ambitious projects at the expense of his own sleep and work-life balance, Alex instead faux-enthusiastically suggests Stephen do similarly time-consuming activities such as marathonning every John Candy movie every day for the foreseeable future, just to make Stephen say no to it.
  • Running Gag: In the early days, complaining about Stephen filming him (and everything), usually in an exaggerated way.
    • His Golden VCR streams have also led to several specific to them:
      • Peter Gabriel's World of Chaos music video for "Steam", which Alex's chat took a liking to after it appeared on a computer animation awards tape.
      • Claiming that every city, town and village in British Columbia (and elsewhere is 'the capital of British Columbia'), after a tape about a Scottish bagpipe band tour misidentified Vancouver as BC's capital.
      • A NASA tape with a strange second-person narration that said "YOU are Alan Shepard" is also sometimes referenced. Alex's audience decide that they are all collectively Alan Shepard whenever space is mentioned.
      • Alex uses an AI art generator to produce 'ghost of (prompt)' - which is surprisingly good specifically at penguins in sunglasses and tuxedoes playing jazz on the saxophone - and later 'friend (prompt)' in the style of 90s clipart - which seems oddly obsessed with naming most of the results "Sunny" (or occasionally "Perry" or "Buddy").
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Fond of using lengthy and obscure words in Broken Picturephone, often in a Hidden Depths manner.
  • Spanner in the Works: Has a tendency to send books off in unexpected directions in Broken Picturephone.

    Hayley Kubler

Hayley Kubler

Hayley was Mal's college roommate during their days at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. They, too, met on starmen.net and decided to live together. She and Alex are married.

  • Born Unlucky: During Wheel of Fortune streams, an unfortunate Running Gag is Hayley constantly hitting Bankrupt and rarely getting a chance to actually play.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Competes with her husband;, Alex, over the title of Snarkiest.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Her first appearance on Day 388 has her remark this. "Feel free to let me in at any moment, you jerks."
  • Gamer Chick
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Alex.
  • Mad Libs Catchphrase: In the Breakfast Stream chat from 2022 onwards, "I'll (Y) your (X)!" in response to any two-part X Y phrase being said by Stephen or others.
  • Official Couple: With Alex.
  • One Head Shorter: Than everyone. She's 4'11".
  • Punny Name: Her Youtube name is "The Kubliest" (what's after 'Kubler'?)
  • Running Gag: Her obsession with Xenogears and attempting to get Stephen to play it on stream.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Commenters often get the spelling of her name wrong; when the gang play Jackbox games, she often references this by using an absurdly-spelled version of her name as her username.
    • We get the origin story of this in an episode of Broken Picturephone, when she recounts how she told a new employer in a phone call that her name was "Hayley, with two Ys" and when she arrived her name badge was spelled "Haleyy".
  • That One Player: Trained up on playing Puyo Puyo for Extra Life 2023, but became so good at it that everyone else was scared to play against her.
  • Troll: Parodies the trope - she often posts on Stephen's gaming videos insulting "this Hayley character" and saying Stephen shouldn't let her on anymore, or asking if Alex is single, etc., just to see how many commenters fail to realise who she is.

    Taylor Eldredge

Taylor Eldredge

Taylor was Stephen's other college roommate.

    Karley Weir

Karley Weir

Karley is Mal's younger sister. She appears in the vlog during her breaks from school.

    Thomas Jonte

Thomas Jonte

Thomas is a friend of Stephen and Mal's, who now also streams in his own right.

  • Ascended Fanboy: He was a fan of the vlog before moving closer to Stephen and Mal and becoming real life friends.
  • Catchphrase: "Do it, you won't!" when daring Stephen to do something (usually in chat on Breakfast Stream rather than in person). Often a Borrowed Catchphrase, as is his habit of referring to the Patreon ticker on Breakfast Stream as "the beans".
  • Extreme Omnivore: Him eating sand as a child is frequently referenced, and he also jokes about eating paint when Mal's art comes up.
  • Fruit of the Loon: Has become associated with bananas since he started his Twitch streams.
  • Handicapped Badass: Like Tyler is he both left handed and color blind, giving him some problems during certain games, still he's an Deadpan Snarker who's also an Ensemble Dark Horse.
  • The Münchausen: Formerly his StephenWiki article. He also claims to have met Joker from Persona 5 and played a very Long List of card games with him.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Very fond of saying disturbing things for shock value.
    • He also unironically enjoys terrible games and is enthusiastic about making Stephen play them for Extra Life / the Stephen & Friends group play them for multiplayer.
  • Overly Narrow Superlative: Inverted. He is very skilled at the obscure Feudal Japanese Voice Controlled Pinball Warfare game Odama and earned a world record for beating it - this has led to overly broad superlative running jokes like Stephen's Twitch chat saying 'Thomas is the only person in the world to have beat a videogame'.
  • Running Gag:
    • His colour blindness producing unexpected results in Broken Picturephone.
    • References to the time he broke into Stephen's house mid-Breakfast Stream (after pre-arranging it with Mal) as a stunt, much to Stephen's shock.
    • Him being a bibliophile (his real life job is being a university librarian) and being upset every time he's reminded Stephen still hasn't read a Steve Jobs biography Thomas gave him a decade ago (or pretty much anything else).
    • Every time Stephen talks about cameras and video editing and his commitment to high quality production values, Thomas casually reminds him he still watches every video on Youtube in 480p.
    • Trying (fruitlessly) to get coffee to overtake tea in the popularity poll on Breakfast Stream.
    • He once declared that he would have to stop playing video games when he turned 40 as though it was a law, which the others often reference.
    • A long-running, but only occasionally-mentioned one is the conspiracy theory that Stephen's vlogs are actually a scripted reality show and the scripts are written by Thomas.
    • An oddly specific, but fairly frequently referenced, one is that he supposedly takes an inordinately long time to eat a salad.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Whataburger spicy tomato ketchup, which Mal at one point claimed is an elixir of immortality - but one that only works on Thomas.

    Debra and Steve

Debra and Steve

Stephen's Parents.

  • Good Parents: Both of them, especially Stephen's mom, are very supportive of Stephen and Mal and are always willing to help them out.
  • Running Gag: Debra's extensive baking, especially the number of cookies she makes which Stephen reports in an Escalating Punchline way.
    • Any time Stephen and Mal celebrate a birthday with Stephen's parents, expect antics when "Happy Birthday" is sung. Especially during Stephen's 30th birthday celebration, where Stephen's parents have Alexa sing "Happy Birthday."
