Like the fic it was based on, the characters (though quite different) are all still here.

Neo-Equestria
Neo-Equestrians in general
- Adaptation Name Change: With the exception of Lightning Dawn and the Grand Ruler('s title), most of their names have been changed from the original story.
- Adaptation Personality Change: All of them are given more characterization than in the original fic.
- Adaptational Badass: These versions of the heroes are far more competent and slightly less prone to Strong as They Need to Be. Of particular note are Team Trifecta; two of them didn't fight at all in the original, while the third saw much less action than the others and was on par with the other Starfleet members, but here they've got a reputation as being the best of the best.
- Adaptational Heroism: They're also far less demeaning of other races than they were in the original.
Main Starfleet members
Lightning Dawn
The hero of the story. Lightning Dawn is a unicorn training under the Grand Ruler to become a member of Starfleet so that he may protect the universe.
- All-Loving Hero: Upon first seeing Crystal, he saves her from a wild cragadile and they become fast friends. It's also what drives him to become the Grand Ruler's student.
- Badass Normal: Even without his golden magic, Lightning is able to block Nadir's magic with his bare hands.
- Childhood Friends: with Crystal.

- Identity Amnesia: He woke up in Amethyst Bog without any memory of who he was before arriving there.
- Keet: As a child, he was quite upbeat and eager to get involved. This trait carried over to his adult self, as well.
- Light 'em Up: His Golden Super Mode has these powers.

- Big Good:
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Delivers one to the Nightcrawler Bandits and their leader.

- The Mentor: to all officers of Starfleet, but especially Lightning and Crystal.
- Parental Substitute: He took Lightning Dawn and Crystal in when they were children, and acts as their father figure.
