Situ Clan
One of the three leading groups in the Society. In General
- We ARE Struggling Together: They present a united front in front of allies and enemies, but there is a large factional divide in the clan that exists behind the scene.
Situ Rang Min
The current Patriarch of the Situ Clan.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He unconditionally loves his son Gulong, though it has resulted in spoiling him rotten.
- Evil Old Folks: He will do all that he can to get power and keep it, even if he must kill members of his own clan. It is later shown that he is even willing to collaborate with the Defiled, at least so long as he is not implicated.
- Green-Eyed Monster: He seemed to be jealous of Nian Zu's accomplishments ever since he was young.
Situ Jia Zian
A rising young talent of the Situ Clan.
- Character Development: He starts out as a typical arrogant young noble, except actually having the skills to back it up. However, his defeat at the hands of Rain gave him a much needed reality check. This leads to him re-evaluating his life and values, befriending Rain and the others, and becoming both a better warrior and a better person afterwards.
- Dual Wielding: Wields two sabers, which he does to honor his deceased father.
- Heel–Face Turn: He goes from one of Rain's hated enemies to one of his closest friends.
- Momma's Boy: He deeply loves his beloved mother.
Situ Jia Yang
Zian's uncle and first Mentor.
- Character Development: Similar to his nephew, he starts out arrogant, but his experiences in the battles against the Defiled and the Bekhai helped him see that there is more to life than attaining status and prestige.
- Smug Snake: He honestly believed that he could have become the leader of both his clan and the Society.
Situ Jia Ying
Zian's mother and the Magistrate of Shen Yun.
- Action Mom: She surprises her son when she reveals that she is a capable Martial Warrior.
- Action Politician: In addition to being a mother and a powerful Martial Warrior, she is also a capable politician, which has allowed her to become a Magistrate and keep herself and her son alive despite Situ Rang Min being the one to kill her husband.
- Mama Bear: She will do anything to protect her son.
- More Deadly Than the Male: She acts like she's more a politician than a warrior, but when her son is in danger, she reveals that not only is she a capable Martial Warrior in her own right, but she drew her famed future husband's attention by beating him in spars multiple times.
- Stacy's Mom: She's noted to be very youthful looking and beautiful despite having a son.
Situ Nian Zu
The Colonel General of the Northern Province.
- Carry a Big Stick: His Spiritual Weapon is a large mace.
- First-Name Basis: He is almost always simply referred to as Nian Zu. Something that irks a few of his clansmen.
- Living Legend: He is highly regarded by many in the Northern Province and is seen as its greatest protector.
- Manly Gay: He's a ferocious fighter and a loyal soldier, but he is also a romantic who loves Shing Du Yi with all his heart.
- My Greatest Failure: He was dismissive of Yuzhen when he first met her, leading to a rift between himself and his secret lover and best friend, Shing Du Yi, one that never fully mended before the latter's death.
Han Clan
One of the three leading groups in the Society. Han BoShui
The son of the Patriarch of the Han Clan.
- Armed Legs: BoShui fights in close range using his greaves and gauntlets.
- Drowning My Sorrows: Does this twice in the story. The first time was after he was forced to kill his beloved cousin. The second was when he realized that his role as a Paper Tiger was coming to an end, as his father's true heir is getting ready to kill him for prestige.
- Generation Xerox: He is basically a younger version of his uncle, as both are close combat specialists who are/were estranged from their clan and give their allegiance to someone who's opposed to the Society as a whole.
- Paper Tiger: He was intended to be this on purpose so that one of this brothers, their father's true heir, can kill him and earn the prestige of killing the famed BoShui.
- Power Fist: BoShui fights in close range using his gauntlets and greaves.
- The Storyteller: After becoming devoted to Rain, he records the latter's adventures, which is spread across the Empire.
- Took a Level in Badass: After getting some advice from Rain, BoShui goes from being a Paper Tiger to a legitimate badass that earns the respect of his peers.
- Undying Loyalty: To Falling Rain, seeing him as the Mother's Chosen Son who will help defeat the Defiled and perhaps even bring a new age of peace, prosperity, and equality to the Empire.
Han BoHai
A Major General and the uncle of BoShui.
- Armed Legs: BoHai fights in close range using his greaves and gauntlets.
- Parental Substitute: Acts as more of a father figure to BoShui than the latter's own father.
- Power Fist: BoHai fights in close range using his gauntlets and greaves.
- Undying Loyalty: To Nian Zu, who similarly dislikes the Society and his own clan.
Harmonious Unity Sect
One of the three leading groups in the Society.Arahant Sect
A lesser member of the Society. Ming Zhong Guan
A Elder of the Arahant Sect who was one of the people who collected those who lost during the Contest.
- Moral Myopia: His nephew died on a mission where he was ordered to kill what he thought would be helpless civilians, women, and children. As a result, he attempted to find the village where they called home, kill everyone there, and burn it to the ground.
Ming Zhong Lang
One of the many people who pursued Rain and his group as there were evading the Society for getting valuable treasure as part of the Contest.
- Small Role, Big Impact: He was a bit character that died in the only chapter that featured him. However, his death drove his uncle Ming Zhong Guan to try and attack the Village, something he died trying to achieve. Among the Elder's belongings was a notebook that had, among other things, his experiences with his Awakening, Water. Rain would use this to try and understand his own Awakening.
- Underestimating Badassery: He thought he could at least take a young child (Rain) with no problem. It was the last mistake he ever made.
