"Hello, this is Stampy, and welcome to another Minecraft Let's Play video!"
A cat with the username/gamertag of 'stampylongnose', Stampy is The Protagonist, narrator and primary viewpoint character of Stampy's Lovely World.

Stampy created the Lovely World on 19 May 2012, and had been consistently building houses, shops, facilities, and minigames in it with help from his Minecraft Helpers, while fighting off HitTheTarget and his nefarious schemes to take over his World, up until 21 October 2023 when he declared the series' end.

    A ā€“ G
  • Accidental Misnaming:
    • In Episode 704, "Corridors", Stampy mistakes Secret for Fluffy, his then-recently deceased dog, and accidentally calls her this. This is followed up by clarifying it was a brief flashback.
    • In Episode 711, "My New Pet", Stampy mistakes Polly Reindeer for CrimsonAzoth, a Helper who hadn't been in the Lovely World for years. Unlike the previous example, he didn't clarify this as a flashback, but rather apologized to Polly later in the episode.
  • Accidental Pun: As a Pungeon Master, he somehow manages to achieve this in combat, when he is usually more serious. He gets one against HTT after sniping him with an arrow while flying with his Elytra in mid-air in Episode 683, "Darkness".
Stampy: I was able to Hit The Target!
  • Added Alliterative Appeal: He names many of his shops and games and even episodes with this in mind. He lampshades this in Episode 678, "Dangerous Day", citing it as an Author Appeal.
  • Aesop Amnesia: You'd think that he learnt not to eat random cakes lying around after falling for a trap using cake as bait in Episode 165, "Ocean Adventure", but sike! He does it again in Episode 320, "Sleepy Stampy".
  • Affectionate Nickname: In the comments section, sometimes Sqaishey calls him "Kittycake", and they also call him "Stamps" in Stampy's Funland and their songs featuring him as a special guest.
  • All-Loving Hero: Considering that he was willing to give Veeva Dash a second chance after betraying him and believed that she still had good left in her, he definitely has shades of this.
  • Animal Motifs: Cats, obviously, though his (real-life) favourite animal is the giraffe.
  • Annoying Laugh: Brick in 'What Is This?' (from Episode 564, "Scary Movies") notes that the "cat dude" he was trying to find has a weird laugh. Considering that Brick was voiced by Stampy...
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Downplayed in Netty's non-canonical video "Netty on an adventure in Stampys lovely world...", where he teases Netty at times but it's clear that they ultimately care about each other.
Netty: Can I be in a play [in your theatre]?
Stampy: (chuckles) What? I dā€“ The village drunk?*
  • Anti-Hero: At his worst; occasionally, Stampy might stoop to HTT's level to Pay Evil unto Evil, and isn't afraid Shoot the Dog if he has to. Nevertheless, he's still a fairly benevolent character.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Usually zigzagged, as Stampy is usually quite focused in Lovely World videos, being a Creature of Habit, but sometimes he gets distracted by animals that wander by (e.g. ocelots and pandas) and sometimes even fallen trees, essentially things he didn't know had been added to Minecraft, or when new features first appear in his Lovely World. Or when he accidentally digs into something interesting while trying to build, like a dungeonnote . He definitely believes himself to be this, at least.
  • Badass in Distress: The times where he gets captured by his enemies, despite being a competent fighter with a very powerful sword.
  • Badass Teacher: He teaches combat at the Cool School and utilizes those skills quite well in battle, whether it's against googlies, the intended purpose of the class, or against HTT and his forces (though that requires far more quick-thinking and resourcefulness than googlies).
  • Benevolent Boss: Despite accusations from his enemies, he is amicable to his Helpers and genuinely cares for their well-being.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's usually a very kind person, but if you threaten those he cares for... remember that this man won several rounds of Minecraft Xbox Hunger/Survival Games and has a very powerful sword. Fizzy also fears his "angry voice" enough to stop running from him and go to jail for his crimes for a while in the episode "Trial".
  • Big Eater: At the start of most videos, he devours an entire Minecraft cake for breakfast.
  • Big "NO!": When he is blown up by a random creeper in his 2000 subscriber special.
  • Big "YES!": When he finally manages to tame Mittens in Episode 145, "Kitty Cat". Everyone can see how ecstatic he is to get his first Minecraft cat.
  • Bold Explorer: Usually averted, unlike many other series he has been a part of, as he focuses more on building his Sugar Bowl than exploring new landscapes and developments, which he can do in other worlds. Played straight for the episodic arc 678ā€“680, though, where he goes beyond the initial boundaries of his Lovely World to seek out an End portal to get a set of Elytra and by extension, defeat the Ender Dragon. Along the way, he explores the new, endless boundaries of the world and places he has not been to before, including the End.
  • Boots of Toughness: He wears a pair of iron boots (and diamond ones on special occasions) wherever he goes and is pretty darn competent in a fight.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: Stampy wields both a sword and archery equipment as his main weapons, but in recent episodes, he is not often seen with a bow or arrows.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Stampy doesn't like putting in the effort to craft extra materials when they run out, and would rather craft more than enough and have some spare rather than craft less than enough but have to go back and make more. However, he is still a very competent builder.
  • Brits Love Tea: He's from England in real life and enjoys drinking tea while editing his videos. He also has a tea shop built into his Clock Tower.
Stampy: (in Episode 522, "Pork Chops? Woof!") And then the other important thing, and probably the most important thing [to add to Corey's editor's office], is a cup of tea. It's almost impossible to edit a video without having a cup of tea, and trust me, I have edited many videos — hundreds, thousands of videos, maybe tens of thousands of videos? — I have edited in my time, and it is almost impossible to edit a video without a cup of tea, it's justā€“ it's just physically not possible.
  • Buffoonish Tomcat: Downplayed; he's actually rather intelligent. Stampy's character as a whole is themed around this, however, due to being caught up in the slapstick of his more chaotic Helpers, being full of jokes (especially bad puns), and having traits associated with masculinity.
  • Buffy Speak: He sometimes uses this when he doesn't know the technical term for something, such as calling the cockpit of his helicopter the "drivey seaty place" (though he did guess the usage of the term "cockpit" right initially) and the landing skids the "heli (platform) legs" when building them in Episode 539, "Helicopter".
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite being a little ditzy, he is very good with building and redstone.
  • The Captain: The Captain of the SS Stumpy and The Leader of the SLW, and very much a Reasonable Authority Figure, especially in comparison with HitTheTarget.
  • Captain Oblivious: He doesn't note on foreshadowing of HTT's next attacks often, even when they are right next to him, though judging by the times he did notice something was off, it seems more likely that he is Obfuscating Stupidity.
  • Captain Obvious: Being a Minecraft builder, he points out his surroundings and the antics of his Helpers a lot of the time; those same things being what the viewer can see as well. This is justified, as he is a commentator and the only character that can speak throughout the series, so there's not much interaction to point out anything besides the obvious.
  • Cat Folk: His skin is an anthropomorphic catnote .
  • Character Catchphrase: Sometimes spread across Minecraft videos beyond the Lovely World is, "Haha! Aww, dear." Sometimes the "aww dear" part is dropped, resulting in his signature laugh. He also said "jolly good" a lot, especially in his earlier videos.
  • Character Development: After years of working on the World, this is bound to happen.
    • He Took a Level in Cheerfulness throughout his earlier videos. Just compare his intros in Episode 10 and Episode 110 alone, then try Episode 210.
    • In his earliest episodes, Stampy was nowhere near as kind, not even to his dogs — case in point: Guilty Bark. He eventually Took a Level in Kindness towards his friends and more evidently, his pets. He also becomes more tactful, too.
    • He also used to curse quite a bit back in the day. Remnants of this still remain in some older, undeleted videos, but in the current day, the most profane thing he says is "darn", and that's on Twitter too.
    • At the same time, he was more prone to Sarcasm Mode in his earlier videos. Currently, though he still has his moments, he is significantly less snarky than in Lovely World Classic.
    • After many, many incidents of his dogs dying, he becomes far more careful with his wolf pack to avoid any further accidents.
    • After being kidnapped twice, Stampy now keeps Barnaby in his bedroom between episodes instead of at the Doghouse, where he would be safer, though it might have more to do with Barnaby continuously starting to spend his nights in Stampy's bedroom.
    • In Episode 701, "Remembering", Stampy acknowledges his defensive attitude towards HitTheTarget's attacks and makes plans to prepare for them in advance by setting up a trap in the Doghouse.
  • Chekhov's Gift: In Episode 154, "Saving Santa", Lee gifted Stampy his Cool Sword as a Christmas present. It would go on to serve its owner well and faithfully for the next 7 or so years.
  • Chronic Pet Killer: Especially in his early episodes, as demonstrated by the fact that he has more dead dogs (16) than alive ones (9). He notes that he isn't very proud of the list of dogs which made it to the memorial at the back of the Top Paw Dog Assault Course in Episode 110, "Lunar Friends". A story from Episode 243, "Ghost Stories", even lists out all the known dogs that died during episodes, which had had more additions since Episode 110. Even in his early videos, he occasionally joked that he's the worst dog owner in the world, given his track record. This is all somewhat justified in that other than Aqua and Spring, all the dog deaths occurred before Episode 105, when he was still a relatively inexperienced dog owner. He eventually grows out of this and becomes much more cautious about his pets' safety, to the point that no (permanent) casualties have happened since Spring was killed in August 2014... until Episode 700, "Tragic Day", but even then, it was in battle and they were fighting alongside him, so it makes more sense to blame HTT than Stampy for this.
Stampy: (in Episode 600, "Town Tour") And once again, you're gonna see the trendā€“ (shows Porky the dog's grave in the slime farm) ...yeah. Having a giant pit is not a good thing to have when you have a dog following around you.
  • Clones Are People, Too: It is implied that he holds this attitude. After Stampy Cat Clone gets killed in a fight against HTT in Episode 184, "Clone Calamity", Stampy remarks that he could always make another clone, but he had already got a bit attached to the Clone who got killed in action earlier, and has never tried to clone himself again since.
Stampy: I mean, I could always make aā€¦ another Stampy Cat Clone, butā€¦ I got quite attached to that Stampy Cat Clone.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Stampy's always been a bit of a weirdo, most notably seen with his building designs, and this hasn't changed over the years — in Episode 709, "New Caves", he tries to feed bread to a small dripstone growing in a cavern.
  • Color Motif: Orange and white, like the colours of his Minecraft skin.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Knowing he would be at a disadvantage in a head-on fight, Stampy uses his Elytra with fireworks to get the high ground on HTT and Veeva Dash above their own fortress in Episode 683, "Darkness".
  • Contagious Heroism: He has managed to convince outright antagonists into turning against HTT, instead of continuing to work for him.
  • Cool Sword:
    • His original diamond sword — a gift from Lee Bear — was enchanted with Sharpness III, Knockback II, Looting III and Fire Aspect II. Though it is technically not the most powerful sword you can get in Minecraft (he first got the sword during the days when you had to use only XP levels to enchant instead of lapis and XP, so he was limited by his resources in what he could make, and netherite wasn't added to the game yet), we can see it be used to kill creepers and skeletons in two hits, and it can deal a substantial amount of damage to the Ender Dragon in one hit alone, as seen in Episode 679, "Enderman Horde". He lost it the following episode after an unfortunate incident involving an annoying Enderman and the Void.
    • As of Episode 710, "Protest", his replaced diamond sword is enchanted with Fire Aspect II, Unbreaking III, and Sharpness IV.note
  • Cornered Rattlesnake: He's mainly concerned with building and improving his Lovely World, but does not hesitate to deliver a beat-down to the ones who want to take over it.
  • Creature of Habit: His videos are usually planned out and episodes tend to stick to a formula. This get thrown off whenever Hit The Target attacks, of course.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's pretty oblivious and gullible at times, but when put into a situation which requires badassery, he can usually handle it.
  • Cuckoo Snarker: He can be a bit of an oddball, especially when taking his odd design choices into account and his tendency to ramble, but he does have his snarky moments every now and then — especially whenever he does Lampshade Hanging in his narration for the episodes.
  • Curiosity Killed the Cast: This is often how he falls for HTT's traps. Case in point, opening the portal to the Alternate Universe in Episode 658, "Mirror World". To be fair to him that time, though, it took him a good several episodes to choose to open the portal.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Usually it involves baby animals. He "aww"s at the baby chick he spawned in Episode 49, "Troubles Brewing", and spends the last two or so minutes of Episode 109, "Stampy's Wolf Pack" cooing over Sherbet, who was a newborn Precious Puppy back then.
Stampy: (in Episode 664, "Giant Cake", while explaining how the minigame 'Cake Collector' works) [...] Because if my inventory's completely full, then the trident just endlessly, like, flies around me, and I basically never pick it up, so that's gonna be kinda the point of the gameā€“ and we have a fox! The first fox I've ever seen in my Lovely World, who would've thought.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Or rather, Cat out of Distress. He gets kidnapped several times but manages to fight his way out of the traps most of the time.
  • Deadpan Snarker: In his early episodes, where he was less open about being a Cloudcuckoolander and was more emotionless, he spoke in a deadpan tone regarding everything around him, and much of it included snarking.
  • Determinator:
    • He has not given up on defeating HitTheTarget since Episode 42, "Unexpected Drama". A temporary exception was made in Episode Arc 541-542, but only because he had no other option.
    • On a lighter note, in Episode 145, "Kitty Cat", he was determined to tame the wild ocelot that appeared in the video and refused to end the episode without taming them. It took him ten fish and nearly 20 minutes to do so.
    • It also took him at least two hours to do the redstone for the 'Big Banana' ridenote . Veeva Dash lampshades this.
Veeva Dash: (tweeting) @stampylongnose has been down that hole for about 2 hours trying to do redstone. Why does he not just give up?
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Some of his plans against Hit The Target — be it an outright attack plan or retaliation — go wrong due to his recklessness to execute them. This gets lampshaded a lot.
    • He is also prone to this during other occasions. He built a parkour challenge to be able to access the Piggy Bank vault like it's an adventure map. Hit The Target and Veeva Dash then commit a Bank Robbery and get past all of Stampy's defenses by... building their way across the parkour defense and breaking down the iron doors, essentially cheating on the adventure map. Stampy lampshades this after discovering the robbery in "I Can't Win".
Stampy: I mean... I guess it's my fault — I did build a parkour challenge to try to get into the bank, I didn't think about the fact that someone could just literally go and build over it.
    • Most of his mini-games break and become defunct because he doesn't consider whether or not the mechanic he's using is an error in the code that makes up Minecraft or is a beta version of a mechanic that will be updated later (his boat mini-games and rides, as an example, due to the boat physics being altered).
  • Distressed Dude: In several episodes involving HitTheTarget, most notably the episode arc 541ā€“542 where he's captured following a certain helicopter crash.
  • Dressing as the Enemy/Impersonation Gambit: In Episode 472, "Gate Crashers", Stampy pretends to be Veeva Dash to try to save his dogs and Helpers. It helps that Veeva Dash was wearing a costume at the time, and somehow, it only fails when Veeva Dash herself shows up.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: He was just a normal Steve skin until he switched to his cat skin (AKA Fidget from Dust: An Elysian Tail) during a now-private skin showcase video and adopted it from "Making A House A Home" onward.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: He becomes victim to Type 3 when Veeva Dash, a trusted Minecraft Helper, betrays him by leading him into a trap and showing her true colours to him in Episode 355, "Friends and Foes". At the end of the episode, he expresses much shock and disbelief for her betrayal, though he accepts it ultimately.
  • Everybody Hates Mathematics: In Episode 706, "Museum", Stampy tries to calculate how many people would have to be added to the Love Garden to fill up a row. He counts that a sign can fit 4 people and a row can fit 14 signs, but then immediately gives up on calculating and says that someone would probably answer him in the comments section of the video.note
  • Fate Worse than Death: He considers not being able to interact with his own Lovely World this, which is thoroughly explored in Episode 670, "Hacked".
  • Flat "What": His first reaction to being kicked from the game in Episode 670, "Hacked".
  • Flight: He had the ability to do so on Console Edition (a la Creative Mode) because of host privileges, according to the early episode "Troubles Brewing", but he rarely does it and dislikes doing so because he thinks of it as "cheating". After getting Elytra wings, he once again becomes capable of this, but more "legitimately" this time.
  • Friend to All Living Things/Animal Lover: Stampy has nine dogs and one cat which he often takes out with him when building.
  • Furry Confusion: Stampy refers to himself as a cat, but has a pet cat called Mittens. Justified because he's only wearing a skin and is not an actual cat mob.
  • Gadgeteer Genius/The Engineer:
    • Downplayed in the case of redstone. Though not as talented as Polly Reindeer or Veeva Dash, Stampy has made some incredibly complex redstone contraptions for his minigames and shops, clear Character Development from when he was Hopeless with Tech back in his early days. But still, he tests out his contraptions many times in his sketchbook worlds before implementing them into his Lovely World proper, and acknowledges that others' redstone knowledge is superior to his own.
    • In-universe, this is played fully straight with all the gadgets he has in his Secret Base, ranging from a cloning machine, a time machine, a teleporter... and then there's his rocket ship, submarine, and all sorts of transport vehicles. Be aware that all of this is supposed to take place in vanilla Minecraft.note
  • Good Is Not Soft: Despite him being sympathetic towards the villains at times, Stampy does not hesitate to take action in battle when action is needed, including threatening a hostage situation and once, hijacking a laser satellite to retaliate against HTT and Veeva Dash for destroying his friends' houses.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: In Episode 542, "Hero Helpers", he mentions feeling like going crazy while trapped by HTT, which the Helpers manage to narrowly avert by saving him.
  • Graceful Loser: If he happens to lose at a minigame competition, he usually takes it all in his stride and values having fun more than winning.
  • Guile Hero: He falls into this sometimes, and manages to talk his way out of a hostage situation with Polly once with nothing but a dozen snowballs and some excellent acting skills.

    H ā€“ W
  • Hallucinations: In Episode 704, "Corridors", he seems to hallucinate Secret as Fluffy, one of his dogs that died in battle just a few episodes previously, in a flashback.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: This man has adopted no less than 22 wolves throughout the entire series, and has bred three more. This is outright confirmed in Episode 700, "Tragic Day", to the point that he felt terrible for having to kill HitTheTarget's dogs in battle.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Downplayed. His main weapon is his enchanted diamond sword, but uses a bow for ranged combat when necessary.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • In Episode 500, "Memories", he visibly reacts this way after Barnaby gets killed by HitTheTarget.
    • In Episode 670, "Hacked", after being kicked from his Lovely World and rejoining it, his reaction to all his dogs being kidnapped and his account being hacked to render him The Load, unable to interact with the World at all can only be summed up as this. He breaks out of it soon, but still.
Stampy: [...] (looks around) I'm back, but... but where's HitTheTarget? He's gone. You don't think he's got away with all of my dogs already, do you? (enters Doghouse) They were all here this morning, I just put Barnaby here and they were all here, how would he get them away so fast, but no! They're goneā€“ look! (walks around an empty Doghouse) Every single one of my dogs has been taken, the whole Doghouse is empty! Do I have permissions? Can I do anything? (tries to open a side door to the Doghouse, to no avail) I still can't open doors?! That means I won't be able to attack or place blocks, I can'tā€“ I can't do anything in this world! (exits the Doghouse through the main entrance) I'm basically just here, but... I can't interact with it at all. What am I gonna be able to do? How am I gonna get my dogs back if I can't do anything?
    • In Episode 680, "Turny Journey", After he dies for the second time in the episode, losing the Elytra he took so long to find, the viewers can see him visibly pause before respawning... and proceeding to have a breakdown.
  • Heroic Safe Mode: Right after Barnaby gets killed in Episode 500, "Memories", Stampy goes through this and kills HitTheTarget before settling down to grieve.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Implied in Episode 526, "Saving the World", where he feels the need to ask his Helpers about their feelings while living and working with him, after his Arch-Enemy accuses him of being a tyrant.
  • Hero Protagonist: Subverted. Stampy spends the entire series being built up as someone who'll be able to directly defeat his arch-nemesis in an admirable fashion, and successfully drives away HTT in every single attack episode (bar a few occasions). In the finale, he doesn't actually defeat HTT directly, but rather lets HTT bring his Fate Worse than Death upon himself, which is not as admirable as the previous attacks built him up to be.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: He is both the CEO and founder of the Lovely Inc. that debuted on the series during May 2017, and is not a villain nor abusive to his employees.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: He believed that Veeva Dash was on his side up until her betrayal, despite the fact that literally every one of his Helpers seemed to have a tendency to avoid her, according to William Beaver's Twitter observations, and the Helpers found her rather odd, even for a Helper.
  • The Hyena: He laughs so much throughout his episodes that it's practically a Character Catchphrase.
  • I Gave My Word: In Episode 624, "Helpless", he helps Veeva Dash escape from the prison they got trapped in, even though Veeva Dash is his enemy and someone who once betrayed him, which he naturally lampshades. He briefly considers backing out on his promise, but ultimately chooses not to.
Stampy: I can't believe I'm gonna save Veeva Dash. After all of the horrible things she's done to me, I can't believe I'm here now going to save Veeva Dash; but I can't leave her there — she did help me escape, and I did promise that I would save her as well, so...
  • Iconic Outfit: His 'Stampy style' iron boots, usually enchanted in later episodes, to the point that when he goes to the End to battle the Ender Dragon and retrieve Elytra, his protection gear consists of a diamond helmet, a diamond chestplate, diamond leggings... and his iron boots.
Stampy: [...] because, even though I'm going to The End to battle a boss, I gotta keep my Stampy style boots.
  • Identity Amnesia: When Stampy falls into a pit filled to the brim with soul campfires in Episode 719, "I Won", his amnesia is so severe he doesn't even remember who he is.
  • Improbable Piloting Skills: If his landing of a passenger plane on a runway too short for anything to realistically land on is anything to go by... and that's coming from someone who had never flown a plane before.note
  • In-Universe Catharsis: He finds making fun of HitTheTarget for being stuck in his trap to be this, to the point he feels like he could let HTT stay there bobbing up and down in the water trap for a year before feeling remorse. However, he goes back on this slightly in Episode 732, "Snowman Party", remarking that he probably shouldn't feel bad for HTT for leaving him in the trap over the holidays, but he did.
Stampy: And I know it might sound a bit mean, but like, just cast your memory back to all of the horrible things that HitTheTarget has done over all of the years, like [he] literally killed my dogs, tried to take over the World, like... I think this is just a nice bit of revenge.
  • Indy Ploy: Several times, he relies on this to defeat HTT since he is usually rather unprepared for the attacks. In Episode 455, "Revenge", he explicitly states that he doesn't have a plan and is improvising throughout the entire thing.
  • Informed Flaw: Despite showing a good ability with a bow in shooting games and taking out googlies, he often says that he is terrible at archery during duels with Hit The Target, and rarely ever hits him during these attacks. Of course, this could just be the Self-Deprecation talking.
  • Jack of All Trades: His jobs in the Lovely World include and are not limited to construction and designing, redstone engineering, investigating crimes, putting out fires, farming, baking, teaching, running a multitude of businesses, handling defense of the Lovely World, and most importantly, running the entire World.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Before Character Development and his switch to a Nice Guy persona in 2013, Stampy was much more insensitive and acted with a rather self-centered attitude compared to how he is now, such being evident in his general behavior at that point. Of course, unlike HitTheTarget, even then, he preferred having fun like he does now, instead of using his attitude to be an intentional hindrance to others, so he wasn't as bad as he made himself seem back then. HTT tries to use this persona against him during his speech in "Saving The World", even though what he is blaming Stampy for no longer applies at that point and he actually has the ability to care about things, unlike before.
  • Karmic Thief: When Stampy ends up at HitTheTarget's fortress, he sometimes ends up taking some of their items. Usually this is only for a battle he's unprepared for, but in Episode 670, "Hacked", he and his Helpers take their valuables, including rare netherite ingots, for themselves. His reasoning behind it was HitTheTarget and Veeva Dash kidnapping his dogs, so they get to take their stuff in return.
  • Kill It with Fire:
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Stampy, ignoring the Furry Confusion, takes good care of Mittens and is generally an All-Loving Hero, albeit with occasional morally ambiguous tendencies.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: At the end of Episode 541, "I Lost", where he acknowledges he's put into a situation that he can't think or brute-force his way out of and surrenders.
  • Large Ham: Stampy is incredibly hammy, which is justified, as he is the only player who can speak in the series. Even then, he is incredibly over-the-top in how he performs in his speech and mannerisms, even more than your average online web series protagonist.
  • The Leader: Of the good side and of the builders of the World, being the one to design a vast majority of the builds and lead the charge against certain villains.
  • Lethal Chef: A downplayed example; while his early attempts at cake-baking resulted in cakes that tasted like dog fur and doorknobs, to name a few unfortunate attempts, this was only because he wasn't used to baking with the cake recipe Lee left behind. Once he got the hang of it in Episode 367, "North Pole", they started tasting significantly better.
  • The Load: In Episode 670, "Hacked", where his account gets hacked so that he doesn't have his permissions to interact with his World. He recognizes this and proceeds to defy it by choosing not to join in the battle during the episode, knowing that his lack of ability to do literally anything would just weigh his team down.
  • Man of the City: Being one of the main builders and the creator of the World, he is naturally this. Off-camera, he is also known to subtly replace old aspects of the builds with new ones, such as by using doors of more varied types of wood added in the newest editions of the game... and woe betide anyone who wishes his World or his Helpers harm.
  • Moment of Weakness: Many examples. Stampy is not immune to temptation or being an occasional Competition Freak, especially in regards to HitTheTarget. Ultimately, this ends up in HitTheTarget successfully kidnapping Barnaby and Stampy being forced to give up his World when he ends up having to choose between sacrificing Barnaby or letting his enemy win, in which he defies this.
  • Motor Mouth: He has a tendency to ramble and can speak so quickly that a transcribing troper can barely keep up.
  • NaĆÆve Newcomer: During his earliest episodes, naturally, as demonstrated by the Water Room and the Crafting Room in his house. Stampy looks back on his naivety with a bit of nostalgia and never did get rid of his old constructs (the old mob trap excluded).
Stampy: (in Episode 600, "Town Tour") And this, if you could believe it or notā€“ this is my Water Room. This is the room that I would go to to get water, like, as if anyone would actually go to a specific room to get waterā€“ I don't know what I was thinking back then, but this is my Water Room...
  • Never Say "Die": Defied. Even after his Character Development into who he is now, he's perfectly fine with saying words like "kill".
  • Nice Guy: He's usually a genuinely kind person. Even Veeva Dash lampshades it.
Veeva Dash: (tweeting) I properly spoke to @stampylongnose for the first time today. I must admit he did seem nice. How can someone always be so cheery though?
  • Not Quite Flight: He gains this after retrieving the Elytra from the End, and utilizes it in a minigame, then with fireworks in combat in Episode 683, "Darkness".
  • Offscreen Romance: With Sqaishey, being in a relationship with them in real life for the bulk of the series, though the 'offscreen' part doesn't quite apply in other series.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • His reaction in Episode 670, "Hacked", to Hit The Target putting on a full set of netherite armour.
    • He also reacts this way in Episode 700, "Tragic Day", when he finds HitTheTarget and Veeva Dash in his secret base... which is completely filled to the brim with dogs.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His real life name is rarely ever mentioned in the series, and even when it is, it's primarily in his older episodes. His Minecraft gamertag/username, stampylongnose, isn't mentioned often either — he even signs off his annual Christmas greetings with 'Mr. Stampy Cat' and is rarely ever addressed by his gamertag outside of his older videos.
  • Only Sane Man: Especially among the old Helpers, where he tends to have to act as the mediator when they start getting into fights with each other.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Following the events of Episode 760, "Impossible Choice", Stampy has relentlessly started passive-aggressive and petty retaliation against HitTheTarget and Veeva Dash for forcing him to do what he had to do, such as constructing minigames next to the Funland that he was no longer allowed in, as well as directly remodeling the two's fortress into a small version of his own house.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil/A Taste of Their Own Medicine: Not even Stampy is above this trope, though he rarely does it.
    • In Episode 455, "Revenge", after HTT destroyed Polly's and Squid's houses in his laser satellite, he chases HTT off the machine and hijacks it, then proceeds to use it to destroy HTT's fortress in vengeance.
    • This happens again in Episode 683, "Darkness", where he uses HitTheTarget and Veeva Dash's remote control to only block out the sky over their island fortress, after they did the same to his entire Lovely World, before destroying said remote control. He jokes that he would be the one who gets the last laugh out of the scenario.
  • The Perfectionist: He's very specific about his building designs, wanting the final result to be absolutely up to par before moving onto his next idea. During the actual building process, he's also rather insistent that his Helpers build his intended structure correctly, and make no mistakes while doing so, getting rather annoyed with them if they make any mistakes. He even makes off-screen adjustments to his completed builds, even things that have been technically finished a long time ago, like replacing the doors in his town builds (to update them to newer versions of Minecraft) and redesigning old rooms to a higher standard (like with his house).
  • The Pollyanna: He's usually pretty cheery and optimistic, which Veeva Dash constantly lampshades on her Twitter. Somewhat subverted in that he is pretty vicious if he wants to be, and is implied several times throughout the series to be a Stepford Smiler after enduring years worth of trauma.
  • The Power of Love: This applies to many situations throughout the series' runtime, but the one that stands out is the Grand Finale when he willingly exchanges his World for HitTheTarget to rule over in exchange for keeping Barnaby, Stampy's most beloved pet dog and sidekick, alive, as the villain has Barnaby over a pit of lava and is preparing to drop him in and burn him to death, as he prioritizes the loves for his dogs and the sentimental value of his World over actually keeping the World for himself in exchange for Barnaby's life.
  • Properly Paranoid: In the meta episode "Stampy Vs Hit The Target ā€“ The Story So Far", he comes to the conclusion that HTT could attack him at any moment after 7 years of conflict.
  • Pungeon Master: He shows this off by giving many of his shops and minigames punny names. He lampshades this several times throughout the series.
Stampy: (in Episode 100, "Cat to the Future") I need to Get Back to the Future. I need to get cat to the future. (laughs) Aww, dear. One thing that hasn't changed over my a hundred episodes is my bad puns.
Stampy: (in Episode 357, "Vet") I can't help having a good pun.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: He goes on one in Episode 500, "Memories", after HitTheTarget kills Barnaby, and ultimately kills HitTheTarget in about two hits. Even after the rewind and Barnaby is brought back to life, Stampy ends up going for a round two of Murder the Dog-Killer.
  • Self-Deprecation: This occurs quite often in his older videos. Sometimes, in more recent videos, he can still be prone to this, usually about his voice or laugh.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: He tried to do this in Episode 500, "Memories", multiple times, by exploiting an invoked Rewind Gag.
  • Shoot the Dog: In Episode 700, "Tragic Day", Stampy kills three of the dogs HTT left behind after his first wave of attack, to ensure they won't be used in the Zerg Rush against him in the second wave.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: In Minecraft, he's an orange cat with green eyes, modelled after Fidget from Dust: An Elysian Tail, and is the protagonist of the series. In real life, however, he has dark, curly hair.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Implied. After Episode 670, "Hacked", where HTT and Veeva Dash attack by hacking his account to render him The Load for the episode, he begins wearing a set of full armour sans the helmet, and not just his Stampy style boots, throughout his episodes (in Episode 672, "Back to Berries", he cites the wardrobe shift as a "new addition"), and during the next attack, he acts more Genre Savvy during the episode regarding the attack's occurrence.note
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: In the earliest Lovely World videos (before their deletion and bowdlerizing, that is), he had a pretty foul mouth and once cursed about six times in an episode. This gets downplayed in later videos (Episodes 30sā€“40s or so) where he had no qualms about using words like "bloody"note , and is fully averted in later videos.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: As creepers are able to blow up his highly-detailed builds, he strongly has something against them and appropriately freaks out whenever he spots one. Granted, it's not as much as his actual Arch-Enemy, HitTheTarget.
  • Small Steps Hero: He's more concerned about keeping his dogs and Lovely World safe than proactively going after his enemies, even if it means that they would escape and return to fight him again in the future.
  • Speech Impediment: Occasionally invoked whenever he says 'Squid' or 'Sqaishey' or some other 'S' term that he can say in a comical manner, as he applies a lisp whenever he does so. He does it rather frequently while playing with the aforementioned two characters.
  • Stepford Smiler:
    • He manages to keep an upbeat attitude for the intro when held captive by his enemy in Episode 542, "Hero Helpers", though he admits that he was not in a particularly good situation at that point in time.
Stampy: I'm gonna be honest with you, though, despite the fact I'm trying to sound positive, things aren't looking too great for me at the moment. [...] So... yeah, as I mentioned, things really aren't looking great for me.
    • Overall, there are subtle canonical implications that various attacks from HTT have left their mark on him over the years, but he still remains unfailingly cheery in most of his videos. The implications become slightly less subtle starting from Episode 700, "Tragic Day", though.
  • The Stoic: At the beginning of the series, he adopted a low voice tone and spoke with little emotion. Eventually, by 2014, his voice evolved to be more energetic and high-pitched, but then returned to its monotonous state by 2021.
  • Sweet Tooth: He most certainly has a preference for cake, but episodes show that he doesn't really discriminate between any desserts, which is a carry-over from real life.
  • Team Dad: To the newer Helpers. He's the de facto leader, isn't afraid to use his "angry voice" to get Fizzy to listen, and can be very protective of them at times, especially Polly. It's even lampshaded on Twitter, where after Stampy jumps into a conversation between Veeva Dash and Polly, who was new to the SLW at the time, to warn Polly about Veeva's true nature, Veeva mockingly calls him "puppa Stampy".
    • Sometimes, he falls into this with the old Helpers as well, acting as a mediator between fighting Helpers and once even giving them a Time Out when they muck up too much.
  • Third-Person Person: He uses it very, very sparingly, but he's definitely done it. Examples include:
    • Episode 85, "Trip to the Moon":
Stampy: Mr Stampy Cat is finally going for a trip to the moon!
    • Episode 100, "Cat to the Future", to make a pun:
Stampy: I need to get back to the future. I need to get cat to the future. (laughs) Aww, dear.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At the beginning, Stampy had absolutely nothing in his Minecraft World, being an average player with mediocre gear and practically no accomplishments done, let alone any builds created. By the end of the series, he manages to:
    • Fill up his seed with a large amount of well-designed builds while destroying any land that gets in his way, an estimated count of ~250 individual builds, including the additional ones;
    • Eventually kill the Wither and the Ender Dragon, the main bosses in Minecraft, and;
    • Outsmart HitTheTarget by leaving him alone in his own World after HTT tried to blackmail him into giving his World and its inhabitants over in the finale.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: Stampy's more pedantic thoughts regarding Minecraft often show up in his earliest videos (though it's generally applicable to the games he played anyway), mostly seeing the game as "a thing to play" rather than something to create with. Eventually, he realized he could do a lot more with the game than he was initially doing and started to treat the game with more care, which influenced him to also develop his build ideas more too.
  • Trauma Button: Implied, especially in later episodes.
    • Outside of the non-canonical meta episode "Stampy Vs Hit The Target ā€“ The Story So Far", he seems uncomfortable and hesitant to talk about the events of Episode 541, "I Lost" and the following episode, "Hero Helpers".note
    • In Episode 700, "Tragic Day", he makes an offhanded remark that implies that he still isn't over the events of "Clone Calamity", where his clone gets killed in battle.
  • Troll: Occasionally. When HTT and Veeva Dash build a machine to block out the sky in Episode 683, "Darkness", Stampy accidentally breaks the machine and decides to cover only their part of the world with the machine's functions instead in revenge.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Cake, which he has for breakfast every morning if he can help it.
    • HTT exploits this more than once by using it as trap bait.
    • Eventually Played for Drama and used as a plot point in Episode 719, "I Won". While going through severe Identity Amnesia induced by inhaling smoke from the Magic Campfires, what brought Stampy's memories back was the taste of cake.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: When he wins a competition in his Funland or a battle against his enemies, he's prone to proudly gloating about his victory. Justified, to a a degree, because he usually loses on the competition side of things.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Stampy has a tendency to be unsettlingly calm at every new development that doesn't happen in a HTT-attack, whether it be the Helpers goofing off or his enemies building obvious mechanisms for their next evil scheme.
  • Vibrant Orange: Stampy's Color Motif is orange, with white as a secondary colour. While his Minecraft skin is undoubtedly based on Fidget, Stampy himself is definitely cheery and enthusiastic enough for this trope to apply as well.
  • Vocal Evolution: Stampy's voice shifts around a lot over the course of the ten years the series goes on for.
    • At the beginning, his voice is extremely casual and monotone, which makes him sound uninterested. He also generally lacks energy. Over time, it eventually became more high-pitched and enthusiastic to reflect his developed personality.
    • In the post-hiatus series, after his voice pitch rose, it eventually returned to a monotone state, but became deadpan until it was almost completely emotionless.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: His OP enchanted diamond sword, which could set things on fire. He got it as a present from Lee in Episode 154, "Saving Santa", and the fact that he kept using it shows he appreciated it. After losing it by falling into the Void, he replaces it with another enchanted diamond sword, which he seems to be upgrading off-camera throughout the episodes.
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: During the first tournament of Broth Brawl, Stampy wins the overall fourth round by standing around and watching the other players eliminate each other.
  • The Workaholic: He spends a lot of time preparing for his videos, even off-camera. Veeva Dash observes this and lampshades this on her Twitter.
Veeva Dash: (tweeting) Started spending lots of time just watching @stampylongnose. Seems like he is building something big and yellow next. He works all day!
