    Russell
Courier: Where are you from?
Russell: *sigh* Anywhere and everywhere, pardner, does it really matter?
The Deuteragonist of the mod, and the eponymous character. A former Desert Ranger who left when the group was absorbed by the NCR, Russell has had a hard life and through it lost nearly all his idealism. However, he still has a heart that fights for good. Having lost the trail of his latest bounty Glanton, Russell decides to accept your offer to join him on his hunt.

And then things happen along the way.

  • The Ace: A Bounty Hunter who can craft bullets, knows tribal remedies and is Boone-tier...
    • Broken Ace: ... but has had a shitty childhood and has lost his hopes and dreams of the future. Of course, you can fix that.
  • Author Avatar: Aside from being voiced by Someguy himself, he's also an anti-authoritarian redhead with a military background.
  • Badass Longcoat: If you get the good ending, his default outfit will be changed from an armored jumpsuit to the significantly better Desert Ranger Combat Armor, the armor of his brothers-in-arms.
  • Bash Brothers: With the Courier, if you're nice to him.
  • Berserk Button: He hates both the NCR and the Legion.
    • He hates the NCR because of its really stupid politics, and for forcing the Desert Rangers into joining them. Best exemplified in the gigantic statue of the Ranger treaty. Though his hatred is mostly reserved for their politicians; he respects their soldiers for the most part, and he still considers the Rangers his brothers-in-arms, even ones like John Ramsey who were never Desert Rangers.
    • He hates the Legion, because they enslaved him, and because of their gigantic jackassery.
    • He does not respond kindly to questions about how he got his facial scars, though he'll eventually open up about them to the Courier if they manage to earn his trust.
    • Killing a fellow Ranger, Desert or NCR, will earn his eternal hatred, as Sergio Booth may find out.
  • Blood Knight: He loves combat and killing due to the adrenaline rush it gives him. He's quick to reassure the Courier that he doesn't enjoy wanton murder, however.
  • Bounty Hunter: Par for the course for the Someguy Series.
  • Composite Character: Russell has traits in common with many vanilla companions.
    • Like Boone, he is proficient with rifles and has a strong hatred for Caesar's Legion and other slavers. Killing named legionaries such as Caesar and Vulpes Inculta with him in your party can improve his Relationship Values and get him to open up about his past. He even makes a Bond One-Liner after killing Caesar.
    • His armored jumpsuit is very similar to Raul's, and he occasionally calls the player "boss".
    • He shares Cass' sailor's tongue, drinking habits, and location-based barks.
    • Similar to Arcade's questline, Russell's involves finding the other parts of The Remnant (the Desert Rangers, in his case), with a similar conversation about having loyalty to the past or moving forward following each one. Also, the player was at some point able to sell him into slavery to Caesar's Legion in cut content.
    • Finally, he can be recruited at the 188 Trading Post, like Veronica.
  • Country Matters: His preferred profanity, particularly when referring to the Legion. Given his history, it's understandable.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a quip for any situation.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Sports one on the burned side of his face.
  • Fiery Redhead: He's not shy about letting his emotions show, particularly with regards to the Legion.
  • Gun Nut: Just loves weapons in general, but he loves guns so much that he even considers marrying into the Boomers because of this. His crafting specialty is bullets, even.
  • More Dakka: His ranged weapon of choice is one of the R91 assault rifles from Fallout 3.
  • The One That Got Away: He fell in love with a woman named Mary after leaving the Desert Rangers, who subsequently left him for a wealthy caravan owner.
  • Rape as Backstory: The Centurion who enslaved him used him as a Sex Slave.
  • Sore Loser: For God's sake, don't challenge him to a Poker game. You'll lose either way, it's just a question of whether it will be the caps for the game, or the caps for your medical bill.

    Glanton
Glanton: Maybe I will kill again, Courier. But will you stand there and tell me I'm doing wrong? I am the line between life and death on the frontier!
A notoriously sadistic Tribal-hunting mercenary formerly employed by the NCR. The Courier and Russell's hunt for him forms most of the plot of Russell.
  • Blade Enthusiast: His signature weapon is a Bowie knife.
  • Crusading Widower: His hatred against Tribals is largely motivated by the death of his wife at their hands.
  • The Dragon: Becomes one to Marko in Bounties III.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: If he survives through Bounties III, he will be killed off screen by tribals some time before Better Angels.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite his own brutal methods, even he is uncomfortable working with Marko.
  • Final Solution: He's turned it into a cottage industry, in fact. Wherever he goes, it's guaranteed that he'll destroy any and all tribals he finds.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Despite his brutality, Glanton is very popular among the people in the frontier due to his actions in helping the pioneers by killing tribes.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He claims he doesn't actually enjoy killing children, though it's quite dubious if this is the case, as when he says the line below, he's holding a group of tribal children he's tortured for weeks on end as hostages and threatens to blow them all up if the Courier doesen't let him go.
Glanton: I don't enjoy killing children. I make it quick and painless. But I know what they'll become. I won't hesitate to pull this trigger.

    Titus Vulcanus
A Legion Centurion with a penchant for burning his victims who once enslaved Russell. He attacks the town of Silverwood at the end of Russell, allowing Glanton to escape.
  • Depraved Homosexual: He views his torture and rape of Russell as a twisted sort of love, and even refers to him as his "sweet, sweet amator" when he meets him again.
  • Final Boss: The last big obstacle in Russell.
  • Flunky Boss: He's accompanied by a pair of hammer-wielding Praetorians.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: In addition to taking young boys as sex slaves, he shares the typical Legion views on women, and will mock and belittle a female Courier while expressing disbelief that Silverwood would entrust its defense to the "weaker sex".
  • Pyromaniac: His favored weapon is a unique Shiskebab that he used to maim Russell.
