Boubou Hama
Role: Country Leader
Party: Boubou Clique - Niamey Security
Ideology: Constitutional Dictatorshipnote Despotism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowChildren of escaped slaves, Boubou Hama has felt his ancestors' pains from birth. Working as a teacher by trade in Niamey, trained by the top class educators of French Africa over at the urban centre of Dakar, and then moving back to Niamey, by 1933 he realized France was barely able to hold her colonies, and subsequently began political studies behind doors to "improve his studies behind doors to curriculum". Truth is, he was looking for work within the system and bring autonomy, or perhaps even independence to his homeland. Turns out, fate was not looking at him well that year. As the French authority collapsed a year later within the Sahel and West African colonies, Boubou Hama was forced to take the reins of power by local native militias, which saw him as their educator and protector, even if slightly treasonous for working with the French (then again, what could be done at the time was severely limited). In this new position, his government in Niamey was desperate, disorganized, and poorly protected from Tuareg bandits, who by 1935 had sieged out Niamey and declared a Jihad against the secular Hama government. Desperate, destitute and left with no other choice, Boubou Hama's provisional Nigerien Army and his government fled upwards in the Niger river, escaping attacks by UDM militias in the borderlands as the Voltaic forces pacified the countryside. Now finding himself in the banks of the Niger in Mali Hama and his comrades declared the Republic of Mali, which was previously held by a confusing mix of colonial remnants, democratic intellectuals and many other factions This Republic had the exact same government factions as the one in Niamey, without being elected. With this, the Voltaic intervention in Mali began, as Bamako became sieged out, it seemed that Hama was destined to be a fleeing dog, dying in the sands of time. Yet, Providence fought against Fate and brought him great victories, driving the Voltaic forces back to the Niger river, protecting the small Nigerien Army and the Hama Government, all of which were given a great propaganda victory - yet one without meaning. The peoples of Mali, now at only 5% Songhai, as the rest was now under Voltaic jurisdiction, despise Hama's unelected Government. And yet, Boubou Hama stands, exhausted and depressed - yet strong in his resolve to go back to his homeland.
- 0% Approval Rating: Hama's government is detested by the people because they didn't elected him.
- Government in Exile: The Tuareg bandits forced Hama and his government and army to flee to Mali, where they founded the current Republic. But Hama still longs to take back his Nigerien homeland.
- Internal Reformist: Boubou Hama initially worked with the French to abtain autonomy or independence for Niger. When French authority collapsed, he put in power by local militias.

In-Game Biography Click to ShowBorn 17th August 1887, Saint Ann's Bay, Jamaica
There is little that can be said about Marcus Garvey that isn't said by his enormously vibrant actions, rallies, and speeches - his violent clamors and rallies full of vitality, and his militarism that rallies over a hundred thousand African-Americans to this day. Garvey was born to a prosperous family in Jamaica, and worked as a teenager. In Kingston, he got involved with trade unionism and became interested in the ideas permeating the society which surrounded him, and eventually developed a Pan-Africanist society in Jamaica named the UNIA. Two years later, he moved to the United States and began rallying the local African-American population of the South with a fierce vitality which was unprecedented by many Americans, eventually making deals with the Ku Klux Klan in securing trade routes to bring African-Americans back to their homeland - Africa. Despite small cells of support at the start, Garvey preservered, and with over two decades of build-up, he's managed to rally hundreds of thousands of African-Americans to leave America for a future in Liberia, a society that he sees as the clay to create an utopian nation which is militaristic, totalitarian in it's militancy, and powerful enough to combat Western imperialists, while still maintaining many American values over to the new nation. Now that Garvey managed to coup the Government, he's reached the absolute peak of his power - ruling a nation.
- The Coup: Garvey comes to power through one.
- Evil Colonialist: Skin colour aside, many of Liberia's native peoples see Garvey as the newest white man, who is assimilated into American culture, speaks American, talks American, thinks American, and believes in American ideals.
- Historical Villain Upgrade: Can go from an inspirational and important (though admittedly controversial) leader in the history of civil rights in OTL America to a ruthless dictator and colonialist in TTL Liberia.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Garvey worked with the Ku Klux Klan to secure the passage of African-American immigrant to Africa, glad to help him rid America of its black population.
- War Hawk: Garvey seeks to turn Liberia into a totalitarian, ultranationalistic nation entirely dedicated to waging wars against Western imperialists.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Garvey can turn Liberia into a ruthlessly authoritarian engine of conquest, but he feels that it's necessary so as to liberate all of Africa from Western imperialists.
Harvey Firestone Jr
Role: Country Leader (Firestone takeover)
Party: Firestone Incorporated
Ideology: Corporatocracynote Polyarchy
In-Game Biography Click to ShowBorn 20th April 1898, Columbiana, Ohio, USA
Little doubt remains that Harvey Firestone Jr. Was a privileged child. He studied in a private university, and he is the child of Harvey Samuel Firestone, one of the most powerful people in all of the rubber industry of the United States. Therefore, he's always been an ambitious child, seeking at all costs to be just like his father in success - and surely enough, he has succeeded with one of the most daring plots of the 20th century; take over an entire nation and turn it into a giant rubber-producing corporation. Now that he has total control over Liberia after the chaos with the dissolution of the True Whig Party, Harvey Firestone Jr. has an immense road up towards him, which will either bring Liberia to a new age or make it fall to another profoundly corrupt oligarchy.
- Evil Colonialist: Firestone encourages white settlers to come to Liberia and rule over it as a ruthless corporatocracy.
- One Nation Under Copyright: Firestone dreams to take over an entire nation and turn it into a rubber-producing corporation. If he seizes power in Liberia, he'll put his plan into motion by deregulating the economy, enforcing a monopoly on consumer goods and dissolving the Republic of Liberia itself, replacing it with the Firestone Company Territory.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Firestone believes that whites are far superior to blacks, who lack even the basic idea of a nation, and are at least a couple hundred years behind the white man in terms of progression.
George Padmore
Role: Presidentnote Country Leader (Election)
Party: Poro-African Blood Brotherhood United
Ideology: Folk Socialismnote Popular Socialism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowBorn 28th June 1903, Arouca, Trinidad
Born Malcom Ivan Meredith Nurse, Padmore was surrounded by opression from an early life. His Great-grandparent was sold into slavery to work to his death in Barbados from Africa, being part of the Asante tribe as a warrior that fought the British in several colonial wars. After many decades of his family line being in slavery, eventually they were freed by the British authorities, who had recently outlawed slavery. His father had been a local schoolmaster and married Anna Susanna Symister of Antigua, a scholar in naturalism. Padmore, as he was known in his writings in favor of communism that permeated the African-American political scene for years, went to the USA in 1924 to take up medical studies and campaign for Leninism and the Bolshevik tradition that was being destroyed by the pro-Kolchak forces. After the London Stock Market Crash, he realized that his future was in Liberia, where he could rouse the masses and throw out Garvey's supporters which rallied for an ultra-nationalist dictatorship in Liberia. Eventually, he made an alliance with the Poro chiefs of the countryside of Liberia after a 1935 expedition to the Hinterlands, and was plotting to take over Monrovia for over a year. Now that he is in power, he is fully able to exercise his utopian ideals of a purely African society, cleansed of American elements, and with extensive socialist backing in a Poro-Communist alliance.
- Culture Police: As part of his Pan-Africanist ideals, Padmore seeks to cleanse all American elements from Liberia to create a purely African society.
- Pen Name: George Padmore is a pen name from his writings.
- Prisoner's Work: Under Padmore, prisoners are put to work on grand construction projects like statues and better prisons.
- Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Padmore was a journalist and author. Here, he can become the leader of Liberia.

- The Idealist: The young democracy of Upper Volta is notably idealistic and so are several of its young politicians.
- Young and in Charge: Upper Volta's prominent politicians are all very young (with the oldest being the 24-year-old Nazi Boni) and idealistic, dreaming of a beacon of democracy.
Nazi Boni
Role: Presidentnote Country Leader, Head of Government
Party: Union pour la Défense des Intérêts de la Haute Voltanote Union for the Defense of the Interests of Upper Volta
Ideology: Social Nationalismnote Progressivism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowWhat introduction can be given to the national hero of Upper Volta, its definer and saviour? His restless work to save Upper Volta from the local brutal colonial remnants in Ouagadougou stemmed not from years of political training, or even contacts in the military. They were from his endless charisma, his adoring and passionate belief in the Upper Voltan people and their future. First a school director in Ouagadougou, Nazi had recognized the unrest in Paris and quickly realized that the opportunity to turn his passive thoughts of becoming a politician was violently and quickly approaching. The colonial remnants fighting against native revolts and futurists were weakening and so with the assistance of a minor corporal in Ouagadougou he nearly instantly became the leading revolutionary figure in the country. Rallying local militias to unite under one banner, he faced one of the hardest decisions possible - the one of deciding the future of Upper Volta. Would it be a military dictatorship like Mali? Would it be an Islamic state like Guinea? No - Nazi dreamed of more, he dreamed of a beacon of democracy and freedom in Africa unlike any other. And so, with permission from the chaotic Parliament he had built of in a couple weeks, proclaimed the dissolution of the ruling Military Junta, to the reluctance of the local military clique. Soon enough, a provisional government was set up, promising elections in 4 years. Those years are passing, and with time only Nazi will know if his democratic experiment will breathe new life into Africa.
- Cincinnatus: After taking power with the help of the local military forces, he dissolved the military junta to set up a provisional government and prepare for future elections.
- Founder of the Kingdom: Nazi Boni is the founder of the independent and democratic Republic of Upper Volta.
- The Idealist: Boni is a passionate believer in democracy and in the Upper Voltan people and their future.
- Universally Beloved Leader: Boni is adored as the "saviour" of Upper Volta.
Diongolo Traoré
Role: Presidentnote Country Leader, Head of Government (Traoré cabinet)
Ideology: Liberalism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowIf anything can be said of Diongolo Traoré, it's that he is a dedicated man. Diongolo has lived all his life as an intellectual in the deepest corners of Ouagadougou, going all across West Africa as his veterinary work became increasingly valued and well-known. With his skills in travel, Diongolo has spent the last few years working to establish an image of a man that knows what he is doing, that has a kind heart, and yet knows what needs to be done to protect Upper Volta from tyrants. A close associate of Nazi Boni, Diongolo's friendly rivalry with Nazi has been an important part of the theatrical web of politics, his intellectual airs and ability to stir an audience to believe he knows what he is talking about has been key to his success at reaching Upper Volta's presidency.
Joseph Conombo
Role: Presidentnote Country Leader, Head of Government (Conombo cabinet)
Ideology: Conservatism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowChild of farmers, Joseph Issoufou Conombo has been close to the earth of Upper Volta, knowing the people of his village in central Upper Volta by name - always a great defender of the local needs of the farmers, Joseph has done intense efforts at centering his political beliefs around that: Tradition, Ruralism and Conservatism. A man of charism demeanor, his consistent political programme and appeals to the mostly conservative masses secured his position in Upper Volta's presidency, now assuring that his political programme will be as he promised. Of course, Joseph knows that politics aren't only based on social issues - a graduate in Medicine, Joseph knows the needs of the population economically, and isn't afraid to speak out for their wellbeing.
Sangoulé Lamizana
Role: Military High Command, Presidentnote Country Leader, Head of Government (Lamizana cabinet), Head of Military Intelligence (Polyarchy cabinet)
Ideology: Polyarchy
In-Game Biography Click to ShowAboubakar Sangoulé Lamizana's background is a mystery. Born in a small, irrelevant village in Upper Volta, he began military studies after he reached the age of 18, becoming a private within Upper Volta's colonial army. Sangoulé, hearing of the news that the French were barely holding onto his homeland, quickly got to work, talking to Nazi Boni and other local politicians, using his military experience to completely drive out the French, and subsequently becoming the unsung hero of Upper Volta. Hidden from the spotlight by Nazi Boni as a secondary leader of the independence war, Sangoulé began to notice his potential power diminishing further and further. Knowing some political strategy, he started to talk with local conservatives and liberals, seeing who would be the most helpful for his plans. Becoming increasingly influential as the only major general of Upper Volta, he realized that part of his political programme would have to include conservatism and appeal to local muslim populations as the only practicing and self-declared Muslim in the Upper Voltan upper political echelons. Sangoulé, knowing that his ally, Ouezzin, would try to wrangle his influence away, organized an "Incident" in the capital, charging the Ouezzinites with treason. With this, the political climate of Upper Volta has gotten more authoritarian than anyone could have expected, and with this, Sangoulé's politics are merely practical, cold, calculating moves that seek to give him the most power without destroying Nazi Boni's legacy.
- The Greatest Story Never Told: The important role of Lamizana in the liberation of Upper Volta from colonial rule is overshadowed by Nazi Boni's own popularity.
Blaise Bassoleth
Role: Presidentnote Country Leader (Election), Head of Government (Bassoleth cabinet)
Party: Parti du Regroupement Africainnote African Regroupment Party
Ideology: Revisionist Socialism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowThe youngest politician in Upper Volta is, unsurprisingly, the one with the biggest dreams. Barely the minimum age to run for office, which is already the lowest of any country in Africa, Blaise has made extensive efforts in solidifying his legitimacy as a real politician in the nascent democracy of Upper Volta. Campaigning among the local unions (boatmen, factory workers, miners, and more) and gathering them in a single united front with the CGT remnants in Ouagadougou, Blaise decided that the best way to solidify his position as a real force in Upper Voltan politics was to create a political party as a front for his unionist activities, the Parti du Regroupement Africain. Despite his gentle demeanor, Blaise is an ardent speaker and a major advocate for the toiling masses of Upper Volta, most of whom can't even read. Considering all this, the fact that he won the first election in Upper Voltan history might not be surprising, but sometimes dreams really do come true, even for a whole country.

- Morton's Fork: All of the Tuareg Free Territory's four potential paths are terrible, because even in a world so radically different from our own as Red Flood is, the Scramble for Africa so completely devastated the entire continent that it made it so that entire ethnic groups and regions like Niger are practically doomed from the start to a miserable existence through no fault of their own.
- Slave Market: The backwardness and lawlessness of the region is showcased in part by how the Saharan slave trade is still alive and kicking here.
Ag Mohammed Wau Teguidda Kaocen
Role: Country Leader
Party: Unité De Mohammed
Ideology: Religious Fundementalismnote Reactionism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowAg Mohammed Wau Teguidda Kaocen is a Tuareg noble that revolted against French rule in the late 1910s, and after the failure of said rebellion, he famously grabbed one of his horses, stabbed a Frenchman, and dragged him across the desert on horseback to lands unknown. He was nowhere to be found for the next two decades, and his existence became a mystery and a horror story to many colonial governors. Eventually, after the collapse of the French administration in Niger, He was seen returning on foot towards his homeland, found in a home in Agadez. Eventually he became one of the most powerful clan leaders in the Tuareg Free Territory and now leads the land with no leader as its controller. He is a bandit, a criminal to the French, but a liberator and a hero to the Tuareg slavers. Under him, the Tuareg territory is in an unknown fate...

In-Game Biography Click to ShowA young man, Hamani Diori has been one of the few intellectual figures to come out of Niger that believe in making it a nation-state. He sees the Tuareg Free Territory as a tyranny beyond comprehension, something that must be done away with as fast as possible in favor of a western-oriented Republic of Niger that seeks to, despite being filled with corruption, actually function like a country like any other. He is considered very popular in the capital of Niamey but has almost no support elsewhere.

Now, he sits on the top of the Anarchy, dominating it like a bull, leading it to the Future...
- Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In real life, Coche was a mountaineer and explorer. In Red Flood, he is a potential leader of Accelerationist Niger.

In-Game Biography Click to ShowBorn in Washington DC, Andriamanantena Paul Razafkeriefo (known by his friends as Andy Razaf) grew up in a broken home. The death of his father Henri after his family was forced to leave Madagascar meant that he was raised by his teen mother Jennie and her father John L. Waller. Andy was raised hearing miraculous stories about his father's royal life in Madagascar and his grandfather's expedition, although he never thought of or even hoped to reclaim a spot among the court. Rather, young Razaf's focus was always turned towards making music for he had a talent in verse and lyrics. Eventually, he moved to Tin Pan Alley in 1913 to pursue a career in the business, slowly building up his repertoire while working a day job as an elevator operator. But in 1918 he took a page out of his grandfather's book, entering radical Negro circles like the UNIA-ACL. Razaf continued on like this, with a prominent musical future ahead of him as his life's goal. That was until a very fateful day in 1918; while reading a newspaper, Razaf noticed a small story about a rebellion in Madagascar, remembering the whimsical tales from his youth. Reading further into the story however, he would find that the rebels were calling for a King, and in a moment that would change his entire life, Razaf realized it could be him.
While he had never wanted power, Razaf desperately wanted to see his Negro brothers united as one, against imperialism and injustice. He realized that he would be the best candidate to bring that freedom to Madagascar, the true sense of liberty that could serve as an example to Negroes worldwide. He brought up his heritage to his friends in the UNIA, and soon even Marcus Garvey heard the tale of this Tin Pan Alley Prince, and begun mobilized UNIA to press the claim. With their political connections, by the time the treaty of Harlem was being signed between the Sadiavahe rebels and the new French Action Française regime, Razaf was at the top of the list. So with a stroke of a pen, Andy Razaf of Tin Pan Alley became a King, as Razaf I.
Yet his royal tenure was not as smooth as he expected, as his Malagasy was rusty at best, and his French nonexistant. However Andy Razaf is not a man to give up easily, and although this civil war presents itself as a roadblock, there is nothing more alluring than the beautiful sound of freedom, and King Razaf I will not stop fighting until his people are free.

- Offered the Crown: Rafaz is made King of Madagascar after he saw the Malagasy rebels were looking for one and used his connections to UNIA to press his claim.
- Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL he was a composer, lyricist and poet. In Red Flood he leaves his promising music career behind to become King of Madagascar.
Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo
Role: Prime Ministernote Head of Government
Party: Ligy ho an'ny Fandrosoana Negronote League for Negro Advancement
Ideology: National Rejuvenatismnote Accelerationism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowJean-Joseph Rabearivelo is a tormented man fighting to keep his dream alive. The Poet-Minister lives in an ever-increasing isolation, forced to be a scapegoat for the aristocracy's mistakes, and the passing days seem darker and darker in Madagascar.
As was proper of an aristocrat, Rabearivelo passed through official French schools and received the finest education according to his class. Although once he delighted in flirting with the avant-garde and wrote westernized surrealist pieces, his art took a turn for a decidedly anti-European and anti-assimilationist message, reclaiming traditional Malagasy language and symbols as banner in the struggle against French authorities. Yet this nationalism did not come from his colleague's leftist beliefs, but from the extensive influence of the ultra-monarchist Action Française, which alienated him from the socialist underground. Rabearivelo, denied of his prerogatives and fame as a nobleman by France and yearning for his rightful place in the social pyramid, enthusiastically agreed with Charles Maurras's calls to return to the right of blood and the iron law of tradition. When Georges Bernanos became the French President, he sought to give the Malagasy self-government under French tutelage, and Jean-Joseph's curriculum and ties to Action Française made him a natural choice to collaborate with the mainland. This, unfortunately, drew the wrath of the anti-colonialist movement, and he became the epicentre of their hatred. His reputation as a writer destroyed by his involvement in politics, and successive scandals over his frugal lifestyle seemed to never end.
Ten years have passed since then, and Rabearivelo is, by misfortune or miracle, Prime Minister of the island. Exhausted and abandoned by his fellow nobles, Jean-Joseph is locked in a struggle to contain the King's modernist convulsions, the fantasies of pan-negrism and liberalizing influences from his natal America which the traditionalist poet hates. The dream of a free Malagasy monarchy has become a nightmare of isolation and inhuman effort for Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo, one which he is not waking up from anytime soon.
- The Quisling: He willingly became one for Bernanos' Action Française government, alienating himself from the anti-colonialist movement and becoming their primary target.
- Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo is most well-known OTL as one of the most important Malagasy poets. Here, he became the prime minister of Madagascar.
- The Scapegoat: He has become one for the Malagasy aristocracy's mistakes.

C.C.R.M.
Official Name: Conseil de Commandement Révolutionnaire Malgachenote Malagasy Revolutionary Command Council
Role: Country Leader
Party: Mouvement Républicain-Démocrate Malgachenote Malagasy Republican-Democrat Movement
Ideology: Folk Socialismnote Popular Socialism
In-Game Biography Click to ShowFor an observer, the Malagasy Revolutionary Command Council or the Conseil de Commandement Révolutionnaire in the language of many Malagasy revolutionaries is simply a pragmatic and temporary measure, intent on keeping the wide and unruly ideological grounds of the Republic together as long as time allows.
For Razaf and men loyal to him, it is the bickering face of republican terror: the colonist, draconian sleeve of french fanaticism, brutally forcing foreign faith, foreign morality and foreign ideas on the negroes by way of the bullet and intimidation. The marxist demons who keep its rotten body together act in a a way that destroys and corrupts black emancipation, so what wrong is in responding to their evils with violence?
Yet for the Republic's sons and daughters, this council means far more than either of these answers: It is both the flame that burns away hundreds of years of colonialism to make way for a truly free and democratic Madagascar, and the intellectual powerhouse holding the torch of liberty that spreads it. The sword which ends the tyrant king's bloody reign over this island, as well as the plough that allows enduring men to grow seeds of freedom on its bloodied soil.
Founded and jointly run by many of Madagascar's leading minds and independence activists such as Jean Ralaimongo, Joseph Raseta, Joseph Ravoahangy-Andrianavalona, and Paul Dussac, it has stood united for the Malagasy Republic since its founding, leading the fight towards an end to oppression and against the royal taint which it created. Shall this revolutionary alliance succeed or not, it has already created an entry in the minds of its enemies - One that will certainly take years to die out.
- Cincinnatus: The C.C.R.M.exists for the duration of the Malagasy Civil War, being dissolved after its end to give way to democratic rule.
Joseph Raseta
Role: Economy Minister (C.C.R.M. cabinet), Country Leader (Election)
Party: Antoko Komonista Vahoaka Malagasynote Malagasy People's Communist Party
Ideology: State Socialismnote Vanguard Socialism
In-Game Biography (Minister) Click to ShowThe Doctor Joseph-Delphin Raseta is a meticulous and iron-willed man, devoted to the ancient principles of his profession. The Minister is determined by his study of medicine and careful consideration of the principles of socialism to be Madagascar's surgeon, so that with a firm hand he might remove the rot and gangrene from the island before it's slowly consumed by it.
Raseta had always been an activist, and even while he was doing medical practice, he joined the radical anti-colonial group Vy Vato Sakelika, a trade union composed of nurses and doctors like himself. Collaborating ting with Dussac and Ramailongo in in their newspaper "L'Opinion" since its inception, Raseta went in and out of prison in increased frequencies throughout the years. Fierce protests against the French authorities' land removals, calls to medical strikes, organizing rallies, and being the newspaper's treasurer gave him much valued experience and hardened the man into a determined political animal. Medicine once again was a decisive factor in his political life, as he came to know of Europe's dabbling with Marxism through the Internationale Red Aid's presence in the island and their campaigns to liberate anti-colonialist protestors from the royal dungeons. Raseta became well acquainted with the Second Internationale's version of the Red Cross throughout the years. Although no lofty intellectual, he co-founded the Parti Communiste de Madagascar with Jules Ranaivo, as he provided the political experience and latter the socialist theory, imported from Germany and Hungary. When the Revolution began, Raseta's close ties with Dussac and Ramailongo gave him a place in government, and thus enshrined the PCM as a keystone of the Republican movement. Since then, Joseph Raseta's efforts to nationalize and collectivize everything the rebels have managed to hold on to has been tireless, and the advancement of the social revolution in Madagascar owes it all to the good doctor.
Paul Dussac
Role: Foreign Minister (C.C.R.M. cabinet), Country Leader (Election)
Party: Parti Communiste de Madagascarnote Communist Party of Madagascar
Ideology: Spartakismnote Popular Socialism
In-Game Biography (Minister) Click to ShowThe spirit of the Paris Commune burns fiery in the heart of Paul Léon Alfred Dussac, and as Foreign Minister he is determined to become the country's voice, letting the foreign imperialists know the island will not submit to their designs.
Paul Dussac had been a well-known face in radical Malagasy politics despite his white race, with extensive contacts to the republican opposition as he, along Jean Ralaimongo, founded the newspaper "L'Opinion", a ruthless political tool against the monarchy and the aristocracy. Dussac has the distinction of kick-starting the Malagasy Revolution in 1929 using this very same newspaper, as while the Razaf regime was struggling to keep afloat because of France's new assimilationist policy, the Marat of Madagascar made astounding accusations in his journal. L'Opinion read that the aristocracy, in cahoots with the government, had been abducting children from rural areas to work as young slaves in their plantations. Although the regime immediately cried that the articles were little more than propaganda, Dussac's accusations firmly resisted these rebuttals, and the massive fallout from these articles was the last nail in the coffin for the Malagasy Crown. The Republican revolution soon followed.
Now an older man, his youthful and populist approach hasn't faded one bit, becoming a distinguished voice in the republican government for the years the civil war has been raging on. Paul Dussac is, without a doubt, one of the pillars of our movement and the father of a new Madagascar, and for that we are grateful.
- Founder of the Kingdom: Beyond being responsible for the Inciting Incident that started the Malagasy Revolution, Dussac is one of the most important leaders of the same Revolution.
- Going Native: Dussac is a white Frenchman who became an empassionate supporter of Malagasy independence.
- Inciting Incident: Paul Dussac's writings triggered the Malagasy Revolution in 1929. He accused the aristocracy of abducting children from rural areas to work as slaves in their plantations with the help of the royal government and hereby causing a massive uproar among the population.

Joseph Ravoahangy-Andrianavalona
Role: Interior Minister (C.C.R.M. cabinet), Country Leader (Election)
Party: Union des Sociaux-Démocrates Malgachesnote Union of Malagasy Social Democracts
Ideology: Democratic Socialismnote Revisionist Socialism
In-Game Biography (Minister) Click to ShowBorn from Merina nobility, Joseph Ravoahangy-Andrianavalona is one of the most dedicated supporters of the Malagasy national movement. A veteran of the island's revolutionary socialism, he participated in the creation of its oldest trade union and served many sentences under the colonial rule, becoming a character of renown and authority among the burgeoning independence movement. This respect of his comrades, along with his distaste for factionalism and generally moderate beliefs brought him to the position of one of the key figures in the new government.
Disappointed with what he saw as the chauvinist and reactionary attitude of the newly declared Kingdom, Ravoahangy held onto his vision of a free, socialist and democratic Madagascar, its people united with the vanguard of global socialism. Thus he became one of the founders of the Republic, seeing taking up arms against a tyrant not as an act of treason, but utmost patriotism.
Serving as a minister, Ravoahangy's policies seek a compromise between many of the factions of the Malagasy revolutionaries. While he hesitates from supporting any single tendency, Ravoahangy believes that only unity among the Malagasy people can bring about a new free and equal Madagascar - divisions only serve the interests of imperialists and oppressive dictators.
- Founder of the Kingdom: Joseph Ravoahangy-Andrianavalona is one of the founders of the Malagasy Republic.
- Patriotic Fervor: He considers rising up against monarchist tyranny an act of utmost patriotism.
Jean Ralaimongo
Role: Head of Government (C.C.R.M. cabinet), Country Leader (Election)
Party: Mouvement Républicain-Démocrate Malgachenote Malagasy Republican-Democrat Movement
Ideology: Social Nationalismnote Progressivism
In-Game Biography (Minister) Click to ShowJean Ralaimongo's role as the Republic's chief architect was not a matter of circumstance, rather than a lifelong fate. Born in 1885 to a pastor spreading the word of God on the island, he had enough time to experience strife as soon as he learned to walk. It was during Ralaimongo's time as a boy when the Franco-Hova wars still raged, when his people were triumphed over by French rifles and cannons, when the monarchy was pushed out in favor of the protectorate which was in turn transformed into a full fledged colony a few years later.
Where many of his peers saw resentment towards their new masters, Ralaimongo noticed opportunity: the French opened a completely new world to the malagasy, one where the aristocracy was replaced by peoples will. Wanting to make a change himself, he quickly took the opportunity to be hired as a servant to a French urban family in exchange for education which would later allow him to become a teacher in Madagascar.
That was not meant to be, however, as the Great War began and Ralaimongo, seeking to prove himself equal to a Frenchman, joined the western front alongside other Malagasy volunteers. It was France's humiliating withdrawal that urged him to return back to his home country and begin gathering supporters in hopes of convincing Paris to grant the Island a chance at integration into its political system.
As France's unstable political system underwent changes from madmen the likes of Maurras or Artaud all trying to claim the mantle while UNIA slowly pushed for one of their own as the king, Ralaimongo's opinion quickly turned from distaste to resentment. Giving up any hope of reconciliation between the two nations, he founded the MRDM as a revolutionary organization. And from that point the road towards a Malagasy Republic was made clear.
- Les Collaborateur: Ralaimongo saw French rule as an opportunity to abolish monarchy and aristocracy and replace them with popular rule and therefore accepted to work for them in exchange of receiving an education to further his goal. He pushed for integration of Madagascar into France until the Third Republic was overthrown.
- Defector from Decadence: He gave up on his goal of integrating Madagascar into France when the Third Republic fell and the Radical Republicans were replaced by the Action Française and Artaud's Futurists.
- Founder of the Kingdom: Jean Ralaimongo is considered the chief architect of the Malagasy Republic.
