Date of Birth: September 6
Age: 28
Team: Defenders
Squad: Viperstrike

A private bodyguard and ex-Tokyo Metropolitan Police officer (with the VIP Protection Division), Azami throws out the Kiba Barrier: special kunai that she gains over time and upon impacting an object, it releases a gas that quickly hardens into a bullet resistant surface to block holes and entrances as well as provide cover.

  • Animal Motifs: Cranes, which symbolize (among other things) power and good fortune in Japanese culture, are featured prominently on her clothes and operator icon.
    • Though strangely, the animated short quite explicitly uses cats as her motif instead. Just before Azami engages the enemy, a subtle cougar growl can be heard. Then at the end of the short she comes out of the shadow, being accompanied by this time very noticeable lion roar, and also wearing a metallic mask with a feline maw painted on it (which is never seen in the game proper).
  • Armored But Frail: While bulletproof, the Kiba Barrier can be destroyed with explosives, Sledge's hammer, or three melee hits.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Like Warden, Azami elects to wear a fashionable suit while on duty.
  • Cherry Tapping. While a melee attack with the Kiba is an instant kill as with all other knives, hitting someone with a thrown kunai somehow only does five damage, the same as beaning an operator with any other thrown gadget.
  • Cool Mask: She wears a fashionable face mask by default.
  • Corporate Samurai: She is a fervent, modern-day follower of Bushido and strives to uphold its teachings in the private security sector. Indeed, when her last employer was killed on her watch, Azami vowed to uncover the truth behind his death even if it was no longer her contractual duty to do so.
  • Deployable Cover: The Kiba Barrier takes this to a new level, being throwable barriers that can be deployed effectively anywhere instantly. They can patch up holes in breaches and barricades, make improvised shields, and can uniquely counter vertical play.
  • The Fashionista: As Harry notes, Azami loves fashion and her personal wardrobe is quite snazzy for someone in her line of work. Her default uniform is a purple two-piece suit with white cranes and golden floral patterns across the right side, complementing her mask, gloves, and gold-toed shoes.
  • Hime Cut: In her Elite Skin, Azami sports straight bangs and shortlocks at cheek-level, with the rest of her hair tied up in a bun. Her default hairstyle falls short of the trope, as it only has straight bangs but without the sidelocks.
  • Lady of War: Azami is composed, graceful, and very deadly, befitting a female bodyguard for wealthy clients.
  • My Greatest Failure: She considers her failure to protect Masayuki Yahata to be this, with the incident being a severe enough blow to her honor that she swore not to use her real name again until she had successfully avenged him.
  • Nerf: Azami's ability to create cover and reshape the map puts her on same level as Mira. In Year 9 Season 1, the Kiba barriers were nerfed to where they can be destroyed with sufficient gunfire.
  • Ninja: Her design evokes this aesthetic, complete with a mask and Stock Ninja Weaponry in the form of kunais. Her Elite Skin plays it much straighter by giving her a modern-looking ninja suit, complete with kunai holsters and a bulletproof vest.
  • Nothing Up My Sleeve: While she has a thigh holster for her kunai, Azami actually produces them from a special device hidden under her sleeves.
  • Obvious Rule Patch: On the test server, players were quick to discover that they could use Kiba Barriers as stairs to reach ratty spots. A quick patch was released so that a barrier not flat on a floor collapses when someone stands on them, like regular deployable shields.
  • Rabid Cop: In contrast to how she behaves now, Azami was a notoriously short-fused officer during her time in the Tokyo Police, and was forced to resign after she faced suspension for going out of line too many times. Since she started working as a bodyguard, however, she's been making an effort to be more professional and to control her outbursts, though Harry believes she's only just suppressing them until she's called into action. Once the fighting starts, she's noted to be an incredibly vicious combatant.
  • Weapon Twirling: She's fond of doing this with her kunai, as seen in her idle animations on the menus and in-game.

Voiced by: Amanda Cordner (EN)
Date of Birth: March 3
Age: 30
Team: Attackers
Squad: Wolfguard

A music-loving ex-combat engineer of Congolese descent, Sens throws and rolls out R.O.U. (Rolling Obstructive Utility) Projectors: wheel-like devices that deploy miniature holographic generators as they roll along the ground, creating an opaque wall of light that obstructs sightlines.

  • All Your Powers Combined: The R.O.U. is effectively a remix of Ying's Candelas, but with elements of Alibi's and Iana's gadgets. Instead of blinding the enemy with flashes, it instead cuts off their line-of-sight wholesale using holograms.
  • Artistic License – Military: Despite looking like a long-barreled AR-15, their POF-9 (a Patriot Ordnance Factory PSG) primary weapon, much like Mozzie's Colt 9mm SMG, is incorrectly designated and described as an Assault Rifle despite being described as and firing in 9mm in-game, making it a Submachine Gun instead.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: At least from the point of view of more uptight Operators like Doc. Sens can come off as too easy-going for Spec-Ops work because of their laid-back attitude, and the fact that they listen to music even in the middle of a mission.
  • Commonality Connection: Sens hits off quite well with Lion because of their shared love of music. In an item description from the Vector Glare Battlepass, they even joke that he should be their sworn enemy since he likes Heavy Metal, while they prefer Electronic Dance Music.
  • Expy: The R.O.U. is similar to the various wall-making abilities in Valorant, especially Viper's in color.
  • Hologram: Unlike Alibi's and Iana's special gadgets, the R.O.U. Projector is designed to block lines of sight rather than create identical decoys of their owners.
  • Meaningful Name: Sens in French means "direction", while "R.O.U." is one letter away from roue, which means "wheel" as Mira lampshades in her evaluation of their gadget.
  • No-Sell: While it offers plenty of utility, the R.O.U. can be still be hard-countered.
    • As a throwable projectile, Jäger's ADS and Aruni's Surya Gates can destroy the R.O.U. while Wamai's Mag-NETs can only simply redirect the gadget elsewhere since the gadget would still work as intended.
    • Being mechanical, the R.O.U. won't be stopped if they roll past a Mute Jammer, but the light projectors that it drops will be jammed like any other electronic gadget.
    • Warden's Glance Smart Glasses, Maestro's Evil Eyes, and Bulletproof Cameras can also see through the gadget's walls of light.
  • Pinball Projectile: Like Ying's Candelas, the R.O.U. rolls along the ground as it deploys, but it is designed to bounce off of obstacles it hits rather than attempt to continue in its original direction.

NIGHTHAVEN

    Grim

"Get out of my way."

Voiced by: Patrick Gallagher (EN)
Date of Birth: April 5
Age: 39
Team: Attackers
Squad: Nighthaven

An aloof survivalist and ex-EOD technician from the Singaporean Navy, Grim is equipped with the Kawan Hive Launcher that deploys bulletproof canisters containing a swarm of bee-like micro air vehicles, attaching to enemies that venture near and revealing their position to all Attackers for a period of time.

  • Bee-Bee Gun: The Hive Launcher. Unlike most examples, the "bees" from this weapon are actually harmless mini-drones that latch onto enemies and ping their location to Attackers, similar to Jackal's Eyenox.
  • Consummate Professional: Grim is the most down-to-earth among the NIGHTHAVEN operators, as one could see in his attitude and getup. All that matters to him is the job; everything else can go hang.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: His gadget will track any enemy who moves through it while affected...provided they move through it during its 10 seconds of activity, and somehow doesn't notice the conspicuous and loud cloud of bee drones floating in front of them.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: His bees are really easy to spot and avoid, so making effective use of him requires good map knowledge to put hives where defenders are likely to hide or peek from, as well as teammates to pin down Defenders and capitalize on the information.
  • Glass Cannon: He's a Three-Speed Attacker with quite a powerful arsenal at his disposal, plus an ability that lets him hunt down enemies trying to flank or outmaneuver his team.
  • Ineffectual Loner: Inverted. Grim barely has any friends in NIGHTHAVEN, but he is nonetheless a frighteningly-effective soldier with or without others to fight alongside with.
  • Meaningful Name: Grim is a very fitting name for such a dour, cold-hearted guy. Also, Kawan means "friend" in Malay.
  • Private Military Contractor: The first Operator with no previous ties with Team Rainbow, Grim is a strictly-professional, ruthless type of mercenary, in stark contrast to his more-altruistic colleagues like Ace and Aruni. Unlike them, it is also not revealed what motivated him to join NIGHTHAVEN in the first place.
  • Singaporeans with Stealth Frigates: Grim served in numerous branches of the Singapore Armed Forces, including the Naval Divers Unit, Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, and Army Reconnaissance. His prior military service saw him develop quite a varied skillset in security, intelligence-gathering, and explosives, making him a valuable asset for NIGHTHAVEN.
  • The Stoic: He rarely emotes, so much so that even the shrinks of NIGHTHAVEN's Psych Division have trouble figuring out what makes him tick. In the Operation Brutal Swarm anime trailer, he does not even scream in pain after Nøkk stabs him in the thigh, and instead he swiftly applies a tourniquet on his wound to continue his fight with her.
  • Unscrupulous Hero: Granted, not everyone in NIGHTHAVEN is a villain, but Grim is definitely up there as one of the most callous among them. According to his Psych Profile, he places little value on morality and camaraderie to get the job done. Grim also has a penchant for brutality he's had since he was a child, when he maimed a man who was attacking his mother and left him permanently comatose - an act which he does not feel guilty about whatsoever, even today.

    Solis

Ana Valentina "Solis" Díaz

"People lie. Data does not."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/r6s_operators_badge_solis.png
Voiced by: AJ Simmons (EN)
Date of Birth: September 18
Age: 37
Team: Defenders
Squad: Ghosteyes

A precise and unflinching police officer, scholar, and investigator, Solis values the truth above all else. When activated, her SPEC-IO Electro-Sensor goggles reveal the location of active Attacker electronic gadgets through walls within a limited field of view and range, which she can then scan to ping them for the rest of her team.

  • All Your Powers Combined: The SPEC-IO Electro-Sensor is functionally a combination of IQ's and Pulse's abilities, but with the pinging feature from Jackal's Eyenox. Like Pulse, Solis is completely vulnerable whenever she uses her ability.
  • Badass Bookworm: In addition to her combat skills, Solis is also noted to be interested in computers and literature and brought in augmented reality to help train her unit, as well as uncovering crime on the Dark Web.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: In this case, detect electronic gadgets like IQ. The goggles themselves light up in gold whenever she activates the SPEC-IO.
  • Hour of Power: Like Warden's glasses, the SPEC-IO runs off of a timer and needs to recharge upon depleting its battery or using a scan.
  • The Little Detecto: Solis's gadget is a head-mounted version of IQ's Scanner. In-Universe, the SPEC-IO was designed specifically as an upgrade for IQ until she left Rainbow.
  • Robot Antennae: When the SPEC-IO is active, a pair of antennae on Solis's helmet flip up, giving the impression of this.
  • Seeker Archetype: Solis's family instilled in her the value of truth and honesty when she was young, molding her to be an inquisitive individual. As a cop, she worked as an intelligence agent: uncovering horrible, hidden crimes in the Dark Web that eventually helped her root out corruption within the police force. One particular mission in Bogotá only reinforced her truth-seeking attitude, when a VIP she was escorting gave her insufficient intel, resulting in her unit taking several casualties.
  • Super Wrist-Gadget: The SPEC-IO's augmented reality interface is through a device on Solis's left wrist, preventing her from using her weapons while it's active.
  • Terse Talker: Harry notes that Solis tends to be straightforward and concise with her words, refraining from using metaphors.
