Characters originating from the mobile game Puyo Puyo!! Quest. Being a multiverse of characters of multiple origins, they have a unique flavor of numerous characters past the usual mainstays of the series.

The Spacetime Detective Agency

The list directly below contains a group of Puyo Puyo characters that were created by SEGA and made their debut in Puyo Puyo Quest following the 'Super Puyo Quest' update to the aforementioned game. It is these characters who essentially serve as the main characters of Quest going forward.

These characters hail from a world completely unlike that of the ones inhabited by Arle, Amitie, and Ringo. In said world, the main setting here is Intral City, a futuristic metropolis where the primary focus is on that of the Spacetime Detective Agency, an agency that makes it their mission to correct any sort of unusual going-ons within the fabric of the space-time continuum.

As a Group

  • Forgotten First Meeting: Played With; Atari has not forgotten about the detective who saved her life when she was a young girl, inspiring to become a private detective herself. However, after all the time that has passed she does not recognize her boss, Seo, as the detective in question.
  • Jurisdiction Friction: Intral City has a special police unit called "spacetime patrol" that will raise a stink when private detectives and their agencies overstep their legal boundaries, by, for example, time traveling within Intral's city limits or attempting rescue operations from within spacetime rifts.
  • Private Detective: Their job-description. They specialize in investigating mishaps caused by instabilities in spacetime.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: As per company policy, they're all supposed to be this, but Atari's and Roquier's shared Samaritan Syndrome means that they often overstep their boundaries, in which case Seo (their boss) will try to reel them back in.
  • 20 Minutes in the Future: Intral City, the city in which their headquarters is located, is entirely based around this trope. Life there seems mostly the same as in Ringo's (and by extension, our world's) modern Japan, except for the existence and general public availability of sentient AI and spacetime travel technology.

    Atari

Character Color: Yellow

Voice Actor: Saran Tajima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img418005_l.png
"Detective Atari tackles the case!"
The rookie, part-timer detective of the Spacetime Detective Agency. Though passionate in her field, she tends to throw herself head-first into everything.
  • Ahoge: Unlike Ringo, she actually has it for a reason.
  • Berserk Button: Don't eat her food. Zero's Bark-Bots learn this the hard way.
  • Big Eater: To the point that she needs to stuff her own mouth with Onigiri to resist Lemres' customary (and usually widely scorned) offer of candy. She can apparently eat two dozen Onigiri for breakfast with space left for seconds.
Atari: Just who do you think you are, Sir! You cannot entice me with second-rate food! Only first rate food will do that! *nomming sounds*
Raffina: You do realize that you don’t sound very persuasive with your mouth full of food, right!?
Atari: I can’t help it, these Puyo Battles always make me so hungry! *nomnomnom* Would you guys like some Onigiri too?
  • Clueless Detective: Bordering on Inspector Lestrade. She certainly understands the basics of what it means to investigate, but her Hot-Blooded nature gets in the way of her actually executing them properly.
  • "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: Her voice actress (Saran Tajima) is the one who sings the game's opening song, and, unlike when Ringo's voice actress did the same for Puyo Puyo 7, does so in-character, with Atari using the second verse of the song as an opportunity to introduce herself and her friends and coworkers.
  • Hot-Blooded: When she gets going, she gets going. Her passion for her job is both her biggest asset and greatest weakness.
  • Idiot Hero: Downplayed, but her non-sequiturs and general antics are enough to render even Amitie (who is usually The Ditz) baffled and speechless.
  • Japanese Politeness: She tries to speak respectfully and politely to her superiors and "clients", but often slips up and will frequently add a "desu" to her sentences two seconds too late.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: While she doesn't look it, she is physically a tank, what with her being able to keep up with the likes of Raffina in terms of endurance and strong enough to single-handedly wrestle down her co-worker Roquier (a grown man a head taller than herself).
Suketoudara: I wasn’t told that that lady was a regular Hercules! Lemme off this wild ride!!
  • Older Than They Look: Thanks to the series' current artstyle, she looks about the same age as Amitie, Ringo (both of whom are canonically in their early/mid-teens) and Arle (who is canonically in her late teens, with a usually confirmed age of 16). However, the fact that she is a working woman and makes references to having graduated from high school implies that she is 19 at her youngest.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: She is a Naïve Newcomer to both the previous Puyo Puyo cast and her own colleagues. In fact, Seo tends to treat her as a Disposable Intern.
  • Samaritan Syndrome: She will gladly ignore cases she actually gets paid for just to do unpaid odd-jobs and help others.
  • Plucky Girl: No matter how many lemons are thrown at her, be it in the form of her boss' rather unreasonable expectations, her "clients'" odd requests or even just her own incompetence, she always keeps a smile on her face, remaining enthusiastic and ready for action.
  • Punny Name: The name "Atari" can mean a multitude of things in Japanese (just for example: strike, success, guess, tackle, jackpot, target, etc.), many of which describe Atari's general character pretty well. She is aware of this and will frequently point it out or make puns with her own name.
  • Pursue the Dream Job: Becoming a detective like those in her favorite TV shows and mystery novels was her childhood dream.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Onigiri. She'll even get angry over someone else eating it in some cases, such as on her first mission, when she tries giving some to everyone else, only for the Bark-bots that Zero had sent after them to eat all of it.

    Roquier

Character Color: Purple

Voice Actor: Yoshiaki Kawabata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img518007_l.png
"You do know that I actually wasn't assigned to this case, ri— Okay, understood. I'm on the case."
The calm and reliable Senior Detective of the Spacetime Detective Agency. As skilled as he is in his deduction skills, he tends to overwork himself.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Probably the most consistent one in the series so far. He even manages to snark on Ringo, who was more or less the queen of this trope before him.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: With a purple Puyo during the same chapter that this trope happens with Seo and Amitie, too.
  • Genre Savvy: He's been around the block a few times and knows about the antics that come with spacetime travel. Oftentimes he'll call what ridiculous situation the party is about to get into a short while before it actually happens.
  • The Lancer: To Atari. They are polar opposites in most respects, but he still supports many of her decisions right until the point where she would run risk of getting herself or others hurt.
  • The Mentor: To Atari, albeit initially not willingly. He eventually takes to teaching her of his own accord, if only to protect her from her own incompetence.
  • Nice Guy: Despite his sardonic outlook, he has a hard time looking away when people are in need and a pathological inability to refuse help when people ask for it. Seo frequently abuses this fact to make him get back on track.
  • Only Sane Man: He is the result of what happens when you combine Ringo's down-to-earth nature with the jaded outlook of a working adult. As he isn't new to dimensional travel, Roquier certainly isn't surprised by all the antics going on on Pwurp Island... but that does not stop him by being exasperated by them.
  • Plot Technology: The "Seven Detective's Tools", a line of convenient investigation gadgets, often with weird and ridiculous side-effects. While they are standard issue for all employees of Seo's agency, Roquier is their most frequent user (and also most likely to complain about their annoying quirks.)
  • The Reliable One: One gets the impression that Seo's agency probably wouldn't run without him picking up the slack for the rest of the staff.
  • Team Dad: With some hints of Team Mom. He cooks, cleans, organizes the investigations and generally looks after his team members' wellbeing. He tries hard to teach Atari to take care of herself and often worries that her rashness might get her hurt or worse on one of their missions.
  • Samaritan Syndrome: Probably the only character trait he shares with Atari and sole reason he still tries to mentor her, despite being convinced that she is not cut to be a detective.
  • Sour Supporter: He would really be rather working on his own cases than play mentor/babysitter for Atari, because he considers her dream of becoming a master detective a lost cause due to her severe lack of competency. He still tries to teach her regardless.
  • Viewer Name Confusion: Like many Quest characters, his name has no official romanization. It is a play on "logia" (greek for "logic") and spelt "Ro/Lo-Ki-A-A" in Japanese, which seems like it is supposed to represent some sort of European-ish name, but similar to Lidelle/Ridel/Rita before him, it is hard to tell what exactly it is supposed to be. To maintain the traditional ARS-naming scheme of the series, all romanization used in the fandom interpret the starting Kana as a "Ro" rather than a "Lo". Aside from the literal transliteration (Rokia), "Roquier" and "Rochier" are also in use.

    Seo

Character Color: Green

Voice Actor: Yuka Adachi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img318006_l.png
"There are opportunities on this island... Business opportunities!!"
The CEO of the Spacetime Detective Agency, Seo is a calculated leader that never leaves a case cold or any client unsatisfied.
  • Affluent Ascetic: While she is the CEO of the Spacetime Detective Agency, she doesn't treat herself any better than her subordinates and has a documented history of starving herself to unconsciousness, both out of a desire to save money, but also simply because she tends to overwork herself.
  • Bad Boss: Not excessively so, but she is known for not giving her employees adequate breaks and sending even rookies into excessively dangerous situations without batting an eye.
  • Bifauxnen: She dresses up in a sharp, white business suit and pants that make her look closer to Quest's roster of pretty-looking guys.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Every other "S" character in an ARS trio up to this point in the series has been male. Seo is the first female one.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The longer she is out doing field-work herself, the more obvious it becomes that, despite all her experience and competence, she can be just as ditzy as Atari, especially when it comes to expecting dumb luck to bail her out of tricky situations.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Went through one with Amitie, of all people. According to Atari, it made her usual passive-aggressive tone even more terrifying than usual.
  • Mission Control: Takes this role especially in earlier chapters, before circumstances motivate her to step into action herself.
    • Missing Mission Control: The unstable spacetime continuum around Pwurp Island often makes keeping contact with her difficult, as her calls tend to break up halfway.
  • Old Friend: It is eventually revealed that in her youth, before she formed her own agency, some of her cases led her to Primp Town, where she became close to Ms. Accord and Popoi.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat / Snark-to-Snark Combat: This is her entire dynamic with Ecolo, probably because she knows it is pretty much impossible to harm him physically.
  • Personal Hate Before Common Goals: When her old enemy Ecolo informs her that her team-mates are under attack on another continent, he accompanies her there, because Ringo is also under attack. Despite that, Seo is quick to throw him to the curbs and even act elated when another party (Time Paradise, more specifically, its engineer, Eight) shows up and tries to harvest Ecolo's vital organs.
Seo, to Eight: Anyway. So you said that you need the “Ecolonium”(?) that Ecolo carries on his person. Well, if that is so… Take as much as you want! I don’t mind at all! Oh, and I am very interested in hearing how it is extracted, too! Do you have to squeeze him? Like a lemon?
Ecolo: Seo, you are absolutely the worst.
Seo: Ahaha, I can’t wait to see this.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Is pretty much this to Ecolo.
  • The Strategist: She is a veteran detective whose specialty are data collection and statistics. When Roquier doesn't know how to approach a case, she will instantly come up with several ways.
  • Workaholic: She's succinctly described as such, and has a history of passing out because of it. She barely eats past the bare minimum, and if her evolution item, the "Nutritious Granola Bar", means anything, she goes through them on a regular basis because it supposedly is a cost-efficient foodstuff for her nutrition needs. Even in her Resort Work version, she has work on the brain despite being on vacation.

    Puubot

Character Color: Blue

Voice Actor: Risa Tsumugi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img218005_l.png
"[VOICE COMMAND ACCEPTED] Napupu~!"
The Agency's robot companion. Comes equipped with communication features, among other handy equipment to help out the team.
  • Do-Anything Robot: Its primary purpose. Puubot's functions include (but are not limited to) opening and closing spacetime tunnels, apprehending criminals by providing melee assistance and pretty much everything a smartphone can do.
  • Pokémon Speak: Napu! Napupu? Napu napu~n. (Puubot can technically speak, but only in a limited amount of preprogrammed status messages. Anything that can't be expressed through these messages becomes this trope instead. It does have a text-to-speech feature it can use to speak fluently when required, but since Atari is generally very good at reading Puubot's intentions there is rarely a need for this.)
  • Recurring Element: Being an unintelligible round companion of a main character, Puubot is the equivalent of Carbuncle and O for the Agency.
  • Robot Buddy: Its secondary purpose.

Time Paradise

A shady corporation operating out of Intral City, who are using Pwurp Island and its surrounding dimensions as testing grounds for unethical experiments. Their employees act as Unknown Rivals to the Space Time Detective Agency.

As a Group

  • Apocalypse How: Their experiments with the Spacetime Blender on Ringo's version of Earth had a good chance of causing anywhere between Class 1-3 if they hadn't been interrupted.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: The majority of their experiments thus far include feature this. Their reasons for swapping people's bodies willy-nilly are unknown.
  • Omniscient Database: The ultimate goal behind their experiments is to create a search engine that can extract information from any point in the space-time continuum.
  • Mad Scientist: The employees we've met so far both fall under this trope, Eight more so than Zero.
  • Scale of Scientific Sins: So far, they're stopping right before point 4. Time will tell how far they'll end up going down the scale.
  • You Are Number 6: Each member has a number assigned to them as a codename.

    Zero

Character Color: Red

Voice Actor: Risa Tsumugi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img118007_l_9.png
"…D…Don’t look at me… please, look somewhere else…"
A high-ranking engineer under the employ of Time Paradise. He's highly skilled in his field and values thorough testing, however, he also suffers from an intense form of social anxiety that turns him into a Nervous Wreck unable to make sound decisions. When not directly faced with a stranger, however, he is mild-mannered, calculated and precise in his actions.

  • Better with Non-Human Company / No Social Skills: He is incredibly affectionate with his robot pets, treating them like friends more than tools, but the presence of Atari - a human - is enough to make him throw out all reason and surrender the prototype of his "Mindswap Light" to her, just to make her go away.
P-Please turn away... I'll need a moment to emotionally prepare myself to Puyo battle a real, living being...
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He appears to be Time Paradise's head of development and invented the "Mind Swap Light", as well as the countless robots attacking the Spacetime Detectives on Pwurp Island.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He, along with Eight, are eventually hired by Seo to join the Spacetime Detective Agency when the Spacetime Blender incident is resolved.
  • Implied Love Interest: Of Eight. Heavily. The latter constantly changes behavior whenever he even gets near him and constantly talks about him whenever he's not around. He even had a dating sim-like imaginary scenario with him as the focus at one point. Although, it might probably just be that he wants him to appreciate him as both a coworker and friend.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Befitting an agent of a company that performs unethical experiments, he wears a largely black cloak with red accents.
  • Shrinking Violet: On account of his social anxiety. Even just being looked at by Atari renders him unable to speak in full sentences.

    Eight

Character Color: Blue

Voice Actor: Ivan Shibata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img218407_l.png
"Are you listening to me? No, let me reckon, you are not listening to me at all, are you? Zero? ZERO!?"
A lower-ranking engineer at Time Paradise, who wants to harvest Ecolo's core for a rare substance called "Ecolonium". He is Zero's understudy, but usually just gets on his nerves. His immense ambition and desire for respect are hindered by his intensely overexcitable nature.

  • Heel–Face Turn: He, along with Zero, are eventually hired by Seo to join the Spacetime Detective Agency when the Spacetime Blender incident is resolved.
  • Implied Love Interest: Zero. Heavily. The latter constantly changes behavior whenever he even gets near him and constantly talks about him whenever he's not around. He even had a dating sim-like imaginary scenario with him as the focus at one point. Although, it might probably just be that he wants him to appreciate him as both a coworker and friend.
  • Insistent Terminology / Embarrassing Nickname: He hates being called "hachi" (Japanese for "eight"), because it sounds "like a name for a puppy", and insists on the English pronounciation of his codename.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness / Motor Mouth: When he gets excited. Even he knows that it is a problem and actually makes him seem less professional, but he can't actually stop himself.
You found me! How very unexpected! But then again, one should expect the unexpected from a famous ace detective! OF COURSE you would sniff the culprit out and apprehend them with ease! You know, with the posing and the finger pointing and the impressive one-liners?! OH MY OH MY OH MY, this is so exciting, too exciting, I can’t contain myself at all!! … …Ahem. Excuse my outburst.
  • The Starscream: He wants to be promoted to Zero's position, and he is not very subtle about it either.

     Thousand

Character Color: Purple

Voice Actor: Unknown

Time Paradise's CEO and boss who has been teased for a while now.

  • The Faceless: They only ever appear as a voice on the other end of a phone line, remotely controlling one of Zero's robots. Their appearance and even gender are entirely unknown. This has since changed in a side story. Though their gender is still unknown.

Character Cards

Characters summonable in the game. Their stories tend to be contained solely through flavor text and manzai scenes, hence why they're sorted by series and not by character name. Occasionally, certain series can also get what is informally known as a "lore-fest": Puyo Fest characters that while not technically a part of the series, are associated with them as characters or follow a similar theme. For reference's sake, they will be included as a part of that series.

General Tropes

  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Each of the series' characters are usually overtly red, blue, green, yellow, or purple to represent their card color.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Every single series is named after general concept of contained characters.
  • Glass Cannon: Attack-type cards boast high damage, but low HP.
  • Jack of All Stats: The aptly named Balance-types, with an average spread of each of the three stats across the board.
  • The Medic: Healer-types, whom bolster the healing power of Heart Boxes, but consequently have low damaging power.
  • Stone Wall: HP-types, having loads of it to last the longest in battle, with very low healing to mend themselves back up and so-so attack.

    Accursed Knight Series & Crowlas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/accursed_knight.png
Clockwise: Hilda, Eldur, Fried, Mappela, and Wacht
Card Type: Attack/Single
Skill: Curse of Pleasure (Hilda), Curse of Fury (Eldur), Curse of Despair (Fried), Curse of Terror (Wacht), Curse of Destruction (Mappela)
Leader Skill: Power of Accursed - Raises HP by 2.0x and Attack by 1.5x, effected cards based on each character's main color.

A group of warriors that wield different types of weapons. Each weapon grants the user with amazing power, but also inflict a curse onto the user, causing them to experience weird side effects.

  • Animal Motifs: Eldur with snails, Fried with bunnies, and Wacht with moths.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Wacht's moth.
  • Blob Monster: Mappela's slime creature, even shown wrapping her up in it's gunk against her will.
  • Curse: Each of them has one from the weapons they wield.
    • Hilda laughs uncontrollably, who was previously The Stoic.
    • Eldur's speech is delayed, which is reflected in his chain counting being one chain late than usual.
    • Fried has a Verbal Tic of "pyon★" (yes, including the star), which supposedly clashes against his womanizing behavior.
    • Wacht always hears bug buzzing noises when he's falling asleep, turning him into an insomniac.
    • Mappela is constantly Covered in Gunge, making her an involuntary klutz.
    • Crowlas sees crows instead of people, unless the person is afflicted by a curse. Unlike the knights, he sees his curse as an Unishment because he likes crows.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Eldur, Wacht, and Hilda inflict Rage, Fear, and Stun respectively. Rage and Fear makes enemies take 2x damage, while Stun is 3x. Stun, however, gets dispelled upon getting hit, making players require some planning to make the one hit really count.
  • Empathic Weapon: Powerful weapons accompanied by spirits, but also inflict the user with a curse.
  • Enslaved Tongue: Eldur suffers the "Curse of Delayed Speech", and Fried suffers the "Curse of Attaching 'Pyon★' To the End of Every Sentence".
  • Mighty Glacier: Despite being Attack-types, their Leader Skill can make them more sturdy and hard hitting.
  • The Hyena: Subverted with Hilda. Her flavor text and artwork always shows her laughing or giggling, but it's a side effect of her cursed weapon.
  • Monster Clown: Hilda and her disembodied clown/jester, complete with Glowing Eyes of Doom at *6.
  • Nervous Wreck: Wacht, not helped that his curse really took its toll on his mental health.
  • Never Sleep Again: Due to his curse triggering when he tries to sleep, he's since lost the luxury and is resigned to living with his cursed-induced insomnia.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Fried's pair of bunnies.
  • Status Infliction Attack: Their Skill involves them inflicting Mass attack, with each hit having a chance to inflict a status condition. Curse of Pleasure inflicts Paralyze, Curse of Fury inflicts Fury, Curse of Despair inflicts Poison, Curse of Terror inflicts Fear, and Curse of Destruction inflicts Confusion.
  • Unishment: Crowlas is not at all bothered by his own curse. In fact, the idea of ruling an entire kingdom of crows is what makes him want to dispel curses off of everyone but himself.

    Angel Series
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angel_0.png
Clockwise: Floré, Ciel, Roco, Abyss, Lux
Card Type: Recover/Single
Skill: Vas-y Fonce (Floré), Refaire Sa Vie (Ciel), Faire Un Câlin (Roco), Nouveau Départ (Lux), Crois En Moi (Abyss)
Leader Skill: Chaining Recovery - Recovers all cards with 0.5× (Lv 1) or 1× (Lv 2) Recovery with any 3+ chain.
Voiced by: Hibiki Aoi (Floré), Natsumi Yamada (Ciel), Yuki Yamada (Roco), Genki Muro (Lux), Yuuichi Masuda (Abyss)

A group of angels that serve as the student council of Light Academy. They specialize in reviving fallen party members.

  • Ascended Extra: Ciel joins the main series in Champions. The group in general act as recurring supporting characters in the game's story mode, overshadowing many other card series.
  • Back from the Dead: Their M.O. is bringing back your KO'd characters back into battle. Careful though, revived characters come back with 1 HP, meaning they'll likely get killed again unless you can find a way to heal them up.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: In the story mode, Floré has to go through one with a robotic myna bird, of all things.
  • Gratuitous French: Each of the characters' respective skills are in French.
  • Healing Hands: Their Leader Skill will generate a heal for your party, provided you can 3-chain.
  • Holiday Mode: During December, a special variant of the series called "Angel ver. Holy Night" gets distributed, where each character wears Christmas-themed costumes and clothing.
  • The Leader: Floré, being the student council president.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Their wings grow larger at *4, and they grow an extra pair of wings starting at *5.
  • The Smart Guy: Ciel, where she serves as the treasurer.
  • The Stoic: Ciel. Her *5 card description even compares her to the coldness of a robot.

    Constellation Series
Card Type: Attack/Single

Comprised of three different sets, the Constellation Series are personifications of the Western Zodiac.

  • Braids of Action: Shaula has one long braid, which is cleverly shaped like a scorpion tail.
  • Meaningful Name: Everyone is named after (or derived from) the brightest star of their sign's associated constellation.
    Dark Angel Series
Card Type: Recover/Single

A quintet of dark angels that form the student council of Dark Academy.

  • Berserk Button: Do not disturb Patri when he's doing his calculations. He may be on the timid side, but he's prone to snapping at people that bother him when he's working.
  • Combat Medic: Despite being classified as Recovery-type characters, their skill set is offense-oriented, with their skill's damage being based on the Recovery stat.
  • Foil: To the Angel Series. Both series attend rivaling schools, and despite being the same card type, they behave differently. The Angels focus on healing and support, while the Dark Angels are more offensive. They're even Distaff Counterparts to each other in color and position!
  • Friendly Enemy: They're rivals with the Angel Series, but (Lisette aside) hold no animosities towards them. Edgar even repeatedly praises Floré and her skill as a fellow student council president, even if he considers himself clearly superior.

    Devil Series
Card Type: Attack/Single
Skill: Broken Night (Hed), Heavy Rain (Stornum), One-side Time (Costa), Crazy Beat (Vartebra), Sweet Memory (Peruvis)
Leader Skill: Tension Up - Attack of all cards increases to 1.5× (Lv 1), 2× (Lv 2), or 2.5× (Lv 3) with any 3+ chain.
Voiced by: Shugo Nakamura (Hed, Japanese), Ben Diskin (Hed, English), Genki Muro (Stornum), Hironori Saito (Costa), Shusaku Shirakawa (Vartebra), Iori Nomizu (Peruvis)

A group of devils that comprise a rock band.

  • Ascended Extra: Hed joins the main series in Champions.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: As rough-and-tumble Peruvis can get, she successfully bakes a chocolate cake on her Lovestruck version, which draws the attention of her fans as a result.
  • Holiday Mode: The aptly named "Halloween Devil Series" are Halloween-themed variants of the band, which were around for October.
  • The Stoic: Invoked by Costa, declaring it to be one of his personal rules.
  • Team Chef: Vartebra, according to his 6* flavor text.
  • Theme Naming: The members' names are based after skeletal parts of a human body.

    Djinn Series

    Dragon People Series
  • Alternate Character Reading: The Dragon People are referred to with their Chinese names outside of Japan. In Quest, they're referred to with their Japanese names (e.g. Penglai is known as Hourai).
  • Ascended Extra: Penglai becomes a playable character in Puyo Puyo Champions, voiced by Edward Bosco.

    Elven Priest Series
Card Type: HP/Single

A group of elfish priestesses with elemental powers, guarding their respective temples: Minoa (fire), Katya (water), Mischa (forest), Deena (lightning) and Yana (poison). They are capable of damaging a single target, with the additional effect of inflicting a status ailment associated with their color.

  • Elemental Weapon: Each of them is depicted on ★6 wielding a sword related to their powers.
  • Facial Markings: All of them have marks in the color they represent.
  • Gratuitous Russian: Their names and spells.
  • Healing Hands: Their High Priestess selves all have the ability to cleanse all status ailments from their team. Their Leader Skill also raises a fallen ally once at the start of the turn.
  • Status Infliction Attack: Each of the elves can inflict their respective status ailment to a single target in addition to dealing damage.

    Fairy Tale Series
Girls inspired by various stories and fairy tales. They increase the power of their respective color, proportional to how many members are of that color.

    Gagakushi Series & Shizunagi
  • Power Glows: The instruments of each of the members glow in their respective secondary colors at 6*

    Holy Beast Fighter Series

    Heavenly Knight Series & Legamünt
Card Type: Balance/Single
Skill: Üldözlek (Mars), Lassnach (Yuri), Regole (Hartmann), Hécatolithe (Emilia), Nyelvjárás (Viola)
Leader Skill: Unspoiltness/Loyalty/Syntropy/Encouragement/Expertise of the Heavenly Knight - HP of color cards increases to x1.5 (Lv 1), x2 (Lv 2), x2.4 (Lv 3), and chaining multiplier of color cards in only normal attacks increases to x3 (Lv 1), x4 (Lv 2-3).
Voiced by: Makoto Ishii (Mars), Sora Takahata (Yuri), Yoshihisa Kawahara (Hartmann, Japanese), Kyle Hebert (Hartmann, English), Konomi Tada (Emilia), Sarah Emi Bridcutt (Viola), Yuuki Ishikari (Legamünt, Japanese), Christian La Monte (Legamünt, English)

Celestial knights of the holy knighthood. They focus on increasing their color's chaining power. The sixth member, Legamünt, however, prefers to work alone and take matters into his own hands, and has a different set of skills from his fellow knights.

  • Aloof Ally: Legamünt is this, preferring to work alone due to his Dark and Troubled Past.
  • Ascended Extra: Hartmann becomes playable in Puyo Puyo Champions. Legamünt followed suit in Tetris 2.
  • The Comically Serious: Legamünt is a very serious and stoic person, but it doesn't make him immune to goofy antics. In Quest he finds himself in a bind with the "spirit of yakisoba", turning him into the alleged "Yakisoba Monster". The monster can only be described as "Legamünt being trapped in a pile of yakisoba" and is as silly as it sounds. He's not pleased with that predicament.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Legamünt claims to have done something horribly wrong to lose his previous allies, which is why he's inclined to work on his own. Yuri and his "Heavenly-knight Reminisce" version brush upon this, in that his past self refused to back down during some battle, while Legamünt hesitated and wanted to retreat. Since then, the incident has caused them to drift apart, with Yuri taking his faults better than Legamünt did.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: The Knights themselves are quite fragile for Balance-types, and their Skill requires a staggering 60 Puyo (at Skill Lv 0) for it to be ready. Their Leader Skill also doesn't affect the cards' stats whatsoever. Said Leader Skill, however, affects the game's chaining formula, resulting in a deceptively high damage output, and their Skill compliments their play style very well. In the hands of a skilled player, they can effectively turn your team into a party of mass destruction.
  • Dual Wielding: Hartmann wields two red short swords.
  • Eye-Obscuring Hat: Hartmann's helmet visor covers his face, but it gets lifted up at 6*.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Quoted word for word by Legamünt, to emphasize his loner attitude among the knights.
  • I Work Alone: Despite being under the same unit, Legamünt is adverse to working with his fellow knights.
  • Power Glows: Their weapons give off a glow that represents their secondary color, on top of their primary color at 6*.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Hartmann, prior to his official translation in Champions, was spelled as "Hartman"; one less N.
  • Theme Naming: Legamünt's spells in Tetris 2 are derived from legendary swords in mythology: Gram, Caliburnus, Caladcholg, Cruaidín and Lævateinn.
  • Winged Humanoid: Their wings aren't shown at 4* though.

    Hellspawn Series

    Monster Girl Series
  • Counter-Attack: Their main skill puts them and their fellow matching colored allies in a counter stance, which causes the cards to retaliate when struck.
  • Cute Monster Girl: All of them. Unlike the more classical examples found in the Madou games (in Lamia and Gorgon's case), these are far more benign beings.
  • Gorgeous Gorgon: Well, more of a cute one, but Gorgon fits the bill, looking more like a girl with snakes for hair.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Without the blindfold, Gorgon keeps her eyes shut at all times. Considering she's a Medusa, she consciously keeps her eyes shut to avoid accidentally turning others to stone, and has her snakes see for her.
  • Sweet Tooth: Empusa always has some sweets on her. One of her dialogue lines as 4* is even muffled by a lollipop in her mouth.
  • Winged Humanoid: Lilim, Empusa and Sphinx.

    Mushroom Series
  • Power Glows: The items they carry, medicines, mushrooms, staves, or otherwise, glow in their respective secondary color at 6*.

    Paprisu
Card Type: Attack/Single
Skill: N/A (2* and below), Knock! (3*), Knock-Knock! (4*)
Leader Skill: N/A

The local mook of Puyo Puyo Quest, these pepper-headed squirrels are known for causing mischief. Despite being easygoing, they're more hard-working than they look.

  • Breaking Old Trends: With his appearance in Champions, Paprisu was the first character in over 9 years to get a unique dropset, instead of recycling one from an absent character.
  • Elite Mook: The "Genius Paprisu", which were special Battle encounters to celebrate the revamp of Battle Mode.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being weak, they're known to be the hard-working type.
  • Mascot Mook: Next to the Puyo themselves, they're prominent in Quest-based merchandise.
  • Player Mooks: Became playable in Champions with the Spectator Mode update as a Secret Character.
  • Pokémon Speak: Actually subverted. Though they just say "Pap! Pap!" in Champions, it's revealed in the "Impassioned Halloween Stage" story that they're capable of human speech.
  • The Rival: With its other-colored bretheren, in compliance to the Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors mechanics employed by the game. Red rivals Blue, Blue rivals Green, Green rivals Red, while Yellow and Purple rival each other.
  • Starter Equipment: When you start a new account for Puyo Quest, you get Yellow, Purple, and two other colored Paprisu based on the first character you pick at the start.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: By the Puyo do they ever! They have a cosplay for nearly every collab that has ever graced Puyo Quest, on top of the holiday-based ones.

    Sage Series
A quintet of sages, experts in their respective areas of study. Nero is a sage of ecology; Isabella, geometry; Dalida, chemistry; Severio, botany; and Galatea, engineering.
  • The Insomniac: Dalida. She tends to be neglectful of other things (sleep included) when researching, and has baggier-looking eyes.
  • Mad Scientist: Galatea has a few screws loose in her brain when it comes to inventing things. Her 6* flavor text describes her ideas to be "without the restraints of common sense."

    Spirit Series
Manifestations of the elements, the spirits specialize in inflicting status ailments.
  • Artsy Beret: Undine has a variant called Painting Undine who wears an artist getup based on her normal costume, including a beret with the eyes that appear on her normal equivalent's hood.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Salamander, Undine, and Gnome inflict Rage, Fear, and Stun respectively. Rage and Fear makes enemies take 2x damage, while Stun is 3x. Stun, however, gets dispelled upon getting hit.
  • Light 'em Up: Weirdly, Gnome uses a light-based skill despite being an earth spirit.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: While characters in the SEGA era with exposed feet (for example, Suketoudara, Rulue, Harpy and Gogotte) have two toes, Sylph sticks out as she has five toes (except for her 4* Card, oddly enough).
  • Poisonous Person: Oddly enough, Floe's skill is a poison mist, despite being an ice spirit.
  • Pokémon Speak: Gnome, up until 4*.
  • Status Infliction Attack: Their main role is to inflict statuses. While they don't inflict damage like the Accursed Knights, their chances of success are much higher. Salamander inflicts Rage, Undine inflicts Fear, Sylph inflicts Confusion, Gnome inflicts Stun, and Floe inflicts Poison. They only have a chance of inflicting it, however.
  • The Unintelligible: Sylph doesn't speak in words, no matter what stage of evolution she is.

    Steam City Series
A very familiar cast of characters that hail from a city of steam. Though they look like the characters we all know and love with a steampunk aesthetic, they're not quite the same characters. The Steam City series is known for introducing the Full Power Skills into the game.
  • Alternate Universe: All these characters are major Compile, Fever, and Suzuran characters that hail from a steampunk city instead of multiple magical worlds. Though the characters keep their personalities, their roles are different from their prime counterparts.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Steam City Satan is a bit of a leisurely show-off, but he's also a hardworking mayor that keeps the city prosperous.
  • Charged Attack: Their "Full Power" Skill and are the first of their kind. Though they can release their skill at their base cost of 40 Puyo, you can hang onto that ready skill and pop more Puyo for the Full Power version with stronger effects.
  • Idol Singer: Steam City Arle and Amitie, though both are still budding singers. Arle is noted to be a rising star, while Amitie is just as clumsy and passionate as her prime self.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Steam City Ringo is an out and about journalist always searching for material to write about, with Steam City Maguro taking the shots with his photography skills (and uncanny ability to walk into a crime scene).
  • Mr. Fixit: Steam City Ragnus is the local mechanic, and is passionate about his line of work. His passion does make him known for his loudness, and treats repair jobs as some epic battle to overcome.
  • Steampunk: The dominating theme for this series, even having brass gears decorating the frames on their cards.
  • Steampunk Gadgeteers: Among the cast, Steam City Witch, Schezo, and Risukuma are the inventors of the city. Witch is the inventor who built her steam-powered broom, Schezo is the alchemist, and Risukuma is a roboticist.

    Warlock Series & Rozatte
A group of boys, all in pursuit of magical studies and accompanied by an elemental ghost familiar. They're all pupils to Rozatte, a kindly teacher-figure.
  • Ascended Extra: Rozatte joins the main series as part of Tetris 2's third DLC wave.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Sullivan has a knack of getting easily distracted by pretty things. It's to the point that in his 5* Christmas version, he ends up getting tangled in Christmas decorations in an awkward fashion because he got distracted by the ornaments.
  • Aloof Ally: Miriam, if his "I am the Solitary Warlock" Story Quest was any indication.
  • Barely-Changed Dub Name: Rozatte is known as "Rosette" in Champions, but the changed spelling didn't stick in Tetris 2.
  • Color-Coded Elements: Albert, Richard, and Matthew, who are dominantly, red, blue, and green, are Fire, Water, and Wind warlocks respectively. Miriam and Sullivan, on the other hand, are flipped; Miriam is yellow but uses Dark, Sullivan is purple but uses Light.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Sullivan, who additionally sounds like one too. This results in him getting hit on Incubus and Stornum, only to reveal to both of them that he's actually a guy, to the shock of both of them.
  • Evil Counterpart: They have darker counterparts known as the Outlander Warlocks, each with darker twists on the respective main warlocks.
    • Albert, who is often seen as the most personable of the quintet, has a counterpart that openly hates working with others.
    • Richard, the hard-working and studious one, has a counterpart obsessed with dark magic and butts heads with others for his own amusement.
    • Miriam, the most aloof and self-assured one, has a Nervous Wreck counterpart.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Miriam.
  • Graceful Loser: Rozatte’s loss animation in Tetris 2 shows him as this, with him simply covering his eye with his hat sadly. Makes sense, considering that he’s a teacher.
  • Not So Above It All: Miriam is rather disconnected with his fellow warlocks' antics...or so it seems. In his Christmas version, he outwardly appears to be bothered by it, when in truth he is secretly very enthusiastic about a Christmas party they're setting up for.
  • Team Chef: Albert is the designated cook, and aspires to be a chef too. He seems to be quite skilled, as his 5* flavor text says his siblings are excited for his cooking, and he's the one baking the Christmas cake in his Christmas version.
