Support

Support Pokémon aren't as powerful as the other roles, but are extremely effective at healing and buffing allies and debuffing enemy Pokémon.

    In General
  • Support Party Member: Naturally, though the exact nature of the support given varies with each Pokémon: some, such as Eldegoss and Blissey, have movesets revolving around healing and buffing their team, while others such as Mr. Mime and Wigglytuff provide frontline support with their hindrance moves.

    Mr. Mime (Barrierd)

Mr. Mime (バリヤード, Barrierd)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unite_mr_mime_5.png
Mr. Mime is a Psychic/Fairy-type Pokémon that is well known in Gen 1, as written in the Pokédex, for making invisible objects to exist with the art of pantomime. Although having a Galarian form in Gen 8, the Mr. Mime introduced in this game is the Kanto variant.

  • Barrier Warrior: Light Screen is a move that can set up an impenetrable wall. When Mr. Mime levels enough, this move can turn into:
    • Barrier, an improved, extremely spammable version of Light Screen.
    • If they wish, they can replace the barrier with Guard Swap, which can damage and slow enemies or provide a speed boost to allies as well as swap their Def and Sp. Def.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: The main reason why Mr. Mime does not see much play aside from outliers is because almost every skill Mr. Mime has is difficult to use, as they not only need to be aimed almost completely manually, but they also need timing to work well. However, Mr. Mime not only has a lot of crowd control skills that only a few other characters have, most of them synergize with each other in such a unique way that almost no other Pokémon in this game can equally replicate it.
  • Mighty Glacier: Mr. Mime is surprisingly durable for the Support role and is expected to execute its crowd control skills through the frontline.
  • Psychic Powers: Mr. Mime has two Psychic powers that stem from its Fake Out, a Normal-type move that deals damage and pushes its opponent away from it.
    • Confusion is a ranged version of Fake Out. However, if the pushed opponent hits any wall or obstruction, including Light Screens or Barriers, or is affected by Guard Swap, they become stunned.
    • Psychic creates a psychic explosion around Mr. Mime, Light Screens/Barriers, and Pokémon affected by Guard Swap, damaging enemies and reducing their Special Defense. Enemies hit by multiple explosions are also stunned.

    Wigglytuff (Pukurin)

Wigglytuff (プクリン, Pukurin)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unite_wigglytuff_5.png
Originally hailing from the Kanto region, Wigglytuff is a Melee Support Pokémon who can help its allies by singing.

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In the mainline games, Defense Curl is just a Status Buff move that increases the user's defense; however, in this iteration, Defense Curl is a move that can attack the opponent and stun them if it connects.
    • In the original game, Cute Charm is a Pokémon Ability that has a chance to inflict Attract to a Pokémon hitting the user with a contact move as long as the opposing Pokémon is the opposite gender to the Pokémon with the Cute Charm ability. Attract makes it so the afflicted Pokémon will have a 50 percent chance of not using a move. This move has barely seen any competitive uses in the original game as the Ability itself is too luck-based and the Status Effect is luck-based as well. Furthermore, the only Pokemon who has this Ability happens to have better abilities. HOWEVER, in this game, Cute Charm works exactly as a taunt move where the opposing Pokémon will have a chance to be forced to momentarily move towards Wigglytuff. This is extremely useful, as it not only synergizes a lot with Wigglytuff's moveset, Wigglytuff is also tough enough to take a few hits. Furthermore, allies frailer than Wigglytuff will be able to stay more in clashes as they won't be the immediate target of any Speedster Pokémon, and enemies who know how to kite are now more wary to do so as they would not want to hit the Wigglytuff in question without repercussions from Wigglytuff's allies.
  • Hyper-Destructive Bouncing Ball: Defense Curl, originally just a Status Buff move, is a now a move where Jigglypuff rolls into a ball. At Lv 4, this move can be changed to Rollout or Sing:
  • I Shall Taunt You: Wigglytuff's Passive Ability is Cute Charm, which has a chance to force anyone who hits Wigglytuff to momentarily move toward Wigglytuff.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Most, if not all, of Wigglytuff's moves are melee range, yet all of Wigglytuff's moves, including her Basic Attack, rely on her Special Attack stats. Furthermore, Wigglytuff is the only Special Attacker whose damaging skills have a chance to deal Critical Hit, a feature only a few Physical Attackers have. This makes Scope Lens a mildly viable build for Wigglytuff as well.
  • Limit Break: Wigglytuff's Unite Move is Starlight Recital, which grants Wigglytuff and any allies surrounding it increased movement speed as well as invulnerability from Hindrances for a short period of time. It also grants a bonus Shield which can also stack with the Buddy Barrier item.
  • Mighty Glacier: Thanks to the August 2021 patch, Wigglytuff is now sturdy enough to withstand incoming damage, allowing Wigglytuff to execute its Hindrance moves consistently.

    Eldegoss (Watashiraga)

Eldgeoss (ワタシラガ, Watashiraga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unite_eldegoss.png
Eldegoss is a Ranged Support Pokémon whose kits revolves more around supporting its allies by giving them different Status Buff.

  • Barrier Warrior: Eldegoss can shield anyone surrounding it with Cotton Guard.
  • Combat Medic: Eldegoss packs quite a punch for a Supporter, thanks to its surprisingly strong basic autos, which add a cotton fluff that deals bonus damage to enemy Pokémons from Eldegoss and its allies based on Special Attack. It also runs healing moves like Pollen Puff and Cotton Guard. Speaking of Pollen Puff, it not only heals Eldegoss and its allies, it also damages enemies and inflicts a Damage Over Time debuff when upgraded.
  • Green Thumb:
    • Leafage is a Ranged Sure-hit move that decreases the movement speed of the target Pokémon. This move will be replaced by one of the two moves:
      • Pollen Puff is a ranged move that either heals — if the target is an ally — or damages — if the target is an opponent.
      • Leaf Tornado is an AOE that can attack anyone under the the Area but lays a red path that increases its ally/ies' movement speed.
    • Synthesis is a Recovery move that heals both the user and nearby ally Pokémon. This can be replaced with
      • Cotton Guard: A Recovery move that grants a shield to the user and nearby Pokén that heals them when the shield expires.
      • Cotton Spore: Eldegoss gathers spores that reduces damage dealt to it before damaging and slowing enemies near them.
  • Starter Mon: Eldegoss is the Supporter option for the player's first Unite License.
  • White Mage: Eldegoss is notably powerful as a Support Pokémon for being one of the few Pokémon who can both shield and heal teammates. Furthermore, most of its moves focus a lot more on supporting allies than damaging foes, although more offensive Eldegoss moves are also encouraged in this game as the more offensive Pokémon can kill so fast, Eldegoss can't keep up with its healing powers.

    Blissey (Happinas)

Blissey (ハピナス, Happinas)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unite_blissey.png
Blissey is a Normal-type Pokemon who helps other Pokemon. As the evolved form of Chansey, she is normally known in the mainline game for cheering other Pokemon by giving away her eggs, which subsequently makes them cheerful as well.

  • Difficult, but Awesome: Eldegoss can still work well with a 2-man or 3-man team, or even under solo queue chaos by the virtue of having a shield which makes Eldegoss more durable than expected, but Blissey needs full team coordination for her to fully utilize all of her skills. That being said, a coordinated Blissey will not have a problem in sustaining her teammates longer in a fight.
  • Healing Factor: Blissey also has access to her passive, Natural Cure, which immediately cures Blissey from any immediate Hindrances. As soon as Blissey gets cured, however, this passive will undergo a period of cooldown.
  • Limit Break: Blissey's Unite Move, Bliss Assistance, makes Blissey immediately dash to one target ally Pokémon, shielding them and increasing their stats while taking some of the damage intended for that target. While Blissey dashes, anyone who gets in the area where Blissey dashed gets stunned and knocked sideways as well.
  • The Medic: While Eldegoss is more focused on giving Status Buffs in an area, Blissey is more focused in healing one specific target.
    • Combat Medic: Blissey can be built as one with her Helping Hand giving herself access to boosted attacks or instead using Egg Bomb to give Blissey a more long-ranged damaging move.
  • Non-Elemental: Blissey is a Normal-type Pokemon with a lot of supportive moves with a few damaging moves as well
    • Pound is a damaging move that hits an area in front of Blissey, damaging any enemy Pokemons underneath it as well as slowing them down. At Level 4, this move gets replaced by one of the following two moves below:
      • Helping Hand is a status buff that increases Blissey's and nearby allies' movement speed and basic attack speed. While the under Helping Hand, all attacks will become boosted attacks as well.
      • Egg Bomb is a damaging move where Blissey hurls a Proj Egg Tile to damage foes in an area.
    • Heal Pulse is a support move that continuously heals both one target Pokemon and Blissey. At Level 6, this move replaced by one of the following two moves below:
      • Safeguard is a support move that not only cures Blissey and a target ally Pokemon of all Hindrances, but also gives them a shield and renders them Unstoppable for the duration of the move.
      • Softboiled is a support move that heals both the target ally Pokemon as well as Blissey.
  • Non-Standard Skill Learning: Softboiled and Egg Bomb each come with 2 charges, however charges are shared between the two moves, so picking both gives 4 uses of the moves that can be divided however Blissey needs.
  • Stone Wall: True to the species' depiction in the main series games, Blissey has the highest base HPnote  in the game backed by constant healing.
  • White Magician Girl: All Blissey are female, and the Blissey in Pokemon Unite is good at supporting and healing her teammates.

    Hoopa

Hoopa (フーパ, Hoopa)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hoopa_unite.png
Hoopa is a Mythical Pokémon of the Psychic/Ghost-type first introduced in the Kalos region. Released in honor of the annual "Pokémon Day" every February, Hoopa is unique among the playable characters as they are the only Pokémon thus far to transform into a secondary form upon using their Unite Move, with this being the Psychic/Dark-type Hoopa Unbound.

  • Casting a Shadow: Being part-Ghost type (as well as part-Dark type in Unbound form), Hoopa has access to both Ghost-type and Dark-type moves.
    • Astonish is a Ghost-type move that deals damage to one enemy as well as stun them. At Lv 6, this move can be replaced by either Phantom Force or Shadow Ball
      • Phantom Force is a Ghost-type move that teleports Hoopa to any area, throwing a projectile that deals damage as well decreasing enemy movement speed. In addition, Hoopa can re-use this move to teleport back from where they originally used this move.
      • Shadow Ball is a Ghost-type move where Hoopa hurls a projectile that lowers enemy Sp.Def. If Hoopa hits them with a second ability or a boosted auto right after, it deals additional damage and stuns them. If an Ally is affected by Trick, they will also hurl a shadowy blob from their location.
  • Limit Break:
    • One-Winged Angel: Their unite move, Rings Unbound, not only transforms them into Hoopa Unbound, which increases their Max HP, but also allows all their allies a one-use access to the portal they summoned right where they used the move. In this state, Hoopa also gains temporary access to two completely different moves, replacing the initial and upgraded moves they have before transforming.
      • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Hyperspace Fury is a Dark-type move where Hoopa punches a distant area 7 times, dealing damage to enemies in said area as well as stunning them.
      • Kamehame Hadoken: Psybeam is a Psychic-type move where Hoopa fires a peculiar ray in front of Hoopa in a horizontal sweeping motion, dealing damage to enemies hit. Hoopa Unbound becomes immune to hindrances while using this move. (9s cooldown).
  • Our Genies Are Different: A Psychic/Ghost-type Pokemon inspired by Genies.
  • Power Floats: Hoopa moves by floating, even in their Unbound form.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: A lot of Hoopa's moves were completely retooled for Hoopa to fit in the the MOBA game as a character. As a result, instead of being a hyper-offensive Glass Cannon, Hoopa is now a Squishy Wizard Red Mage Support Party Member that could transform into a Lightning Bruiser. In addition, where they need a Held Item called Prison Bottle in the mainline series, Hoopa in Unite just needs to be Level 9 to have access to their Unbound form.
  • Psychic Powers: Being part-Psychic type, Hoopa has access to a few Psychic moves as well.
    • Confusion is a Psychic-type move that unleashes a psychic blast that lingers on an afflicted enemy, then explodes, which slows the enemy. At lv 4, this move can be replaced by either Trick or Hyperspace Hole.
      • Trick is a Psychic-type move where Hoopa links themself to an ally or themself as well, giving them both a movement speed buff and a shield for a short time. In addition, when Hoopa uses Shadow Ball or performs an auto-attack, the ring on the ally will perform the same attack.
      • Hyperspace Hole is a Psychic-type move where Hoopa creates a tremendous ring at the target location. After a set amount of time, the hole explodes, and any allies inside (as well as Hoopa themself) are teleported back to base and given a movement speed buff. Healing from the base is not delayed when warping back using Hyperspace Hole. Targets teleported by the hole can click the right stick to teleport to the location Hyperspace Hole was initially cast. If the hole is placed directly on an allied goal zone, it will become a gateway between lanes, allowing all allies and Hoopa to freely travel between lanes. There is a cooldown between each ally's travel, and they are given a movement speed buff when they leave the portal.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Hoopa's entire schtick is summoning portals with their rings, and their kit in Unite makes full use of it. Hyperspace Hole allows it to portal allies to and from the base or between goal zones, Magician allows it to steal berries and Aeos Energy by creating portals under them, Phantom Force has it teleporting a short distance using portals, and as Hoopa Unbound it can portal allies directly to its location.
  • Video Game Stealing: Their Ability, Magician, allows them to snatch a random berry from the enemy lane by pressing the Left Stick in the Switch controller (if no berries are available, Hoopa collects Aeos Energy from the map instead). This ability undergoes cooldown after used, with a lowered cooldown when said skill is unsuccessful.

    Clefable

Clefable

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8a846753_b107_4384_9687_fc7d982a9d3e.png

A Fairy-type (formerly Normal-type) from the Kanto region.

  • Life Drain: Draining Kiss can be used to heal Clefable's allies or Clefable herself if there aren't any allied Pokémon nearby.
  • Limit Break: Wonder Wish which has Clefable wiggle her finger and then restore HP to all allies in the area of effect with them gaining more health the lower it is. After this, Clefable gains a temporary move if she uses this in a certain amount of time: Splash, Close Combat, Hyper Beam, Block, Hydro Pump or Fly.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Clefable's Magic Guard gives Clefable a shield when she heals an ally with how strong it is depending on how much HP she healed. Clefable also receives a shield when using Follow Me which forces enemy Pokémon to attack her.
  • Mythology Gag: Wonder Wish is based off of Metronome.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: Fairy-type and starts with Disarming Voice as a Clefairy which allows her to damage enemies and lower their move speed for a short time.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Heal Pulse is an Egg Move for the Cleffa line in the mainline games, but it's one of Clefairy's starting moves in Unite. Also, while Clefairy in the mainline games needs an Evolutionary Stone called Moon Stone, Clefairy in Unite just needs to be Level 4 to evolve into Clefable.
  • White Mage: Like Eldegoss and Blissey, Clefable's moves are based around supporting her allies like Heal Pulse which can be upgraded into Moonlight or Draining Kiss. The only attack moves Clefable has are Disarming Voice as a Clefairy and Wonder Wish.

    Sableye

Sableye

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4fb4d81c_db9a_41c4_9c36_261f7249e051.png

A Dark/Ghost-type from the Hoenn region.

  • Casting a Shadow: Part Dark-type and knows Thief, Knock Off, Feint Attack and Shadow Sneak
  • Limit Break: Phantom Ambush which has Sableye shoot beams of light from his eyes and if they hit an opponent, they can't move and start preparing to return to base. If the opponent takes damage before returning to base, they can't take any action for a short amount of time and if they're not facing Sableye, their movement speed is decreased.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Part Ghost-type and knows Astonish and Shadow Sneak.
  • Status Effects: Sableye can confuse opponents with Confuse Ray and confused opponents will attack their teammates and wild Pokémon with their basic attacks.
  • The Trickster: Sableye's playstyle revolves around entering stealth, stealing Aeos energy from opponents, throwing dummy Aeos energy and inflicting status conditions on opponents.
  • Video Game Stealing: Sableye can use Thief to steal Aeos energy or use Knock Off to force opponents to drop Aeos Energy for Sableye and his teammates to pick up for themselves.

    Comfey

Comfey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/comfey_unite_6.png

A Fairy-type from the Alola region.

  • Alternate Company Equivalent: As a defensive support that attaches to an ally for protection and to heal and buff them, it's not hard to see a parallel between Comfey and Yuumi.
  • Armored But Frail: Comfey is completely invulnerable while attached to an ally, but if that ally goes down or if Comfey is caught out on its own, it folds like paper.
  • Green Thumb: Comfey knows Synthesis as a starting move and can be upgraded into Floral Healing, both of which allow Comfey to attach himself to an ally and heal them with more health being recovered the more flowers Comfey has and grant them a shield. Comfey also knows Vine Whip which can be upgraded into Magical Leaf or Grass Knot with all three moves sharing the ability to prevent the foe from moving or acting when hit.
  • Limit Break: Flowery Fields Forever wherein Comfey creates a large area of tall grass around himself which prevents him and other Pokémon in it from being seen like regular tall grass. Any ally Pokémon that enters the grass continually recovers health as long as they're in it and Comfey can gather special flowers from this grass to boost his Floral Healing and Sweet Kiss moves.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Comfey's Synthesis/Floral Healing/Sweet Kiss has him attaching himself to an ally, if he isn't attached already and granting them a shield.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Comfey's playstyle revolves around gathering flowers in tall grass to boost his first move with the effect of the move changing depending on the flowers he holds and he moves faster if near an ally with low health. Comfey's Synthesis/Floral Healing/Sweet Kiss has him attaching himself to an ally (befitting Comfey being based of a lei) and healing them or infatuating enemies while giving his ally a shield. His Limit Break also has him create a large area of tall grass that works like the regular tall grass in that Pokémon in it cannot be seen and steadily recovers ally's health.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Comfey's Triage ability protects him from harm so long as he's attached to an ally.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: Fairy-type but in this game, Comfey knows only one Fairy-type move which is Sweet Kiss which has Comfey attaching himself to an ally if not already attached and then charges up power to infatuate any opposing Pokémon who are forced to approach the user with the effect lasting longer Comfey charges and how many flowers he has.
