The Player Characters

    Captain Jack Sparrow

Captain Jack Sparrow

Voiced by: Johnny Depp

A pirate and the captain of the Black Pearl. When his attempt to steal a priceless artifact from a Portuguese fortress in Panama goes awry and leads him to the gallows along with Will Turner, he asks for a chance to give his own recount of the events of the first movie. He's playable in every single level, with either Will or Elizabeth supporting him.

  • Flaming Sword: He has the ability to douse his sword in grog and set it alight by striking it on the ground. The flaming cutlass can be used to deal extra damage or perform massive area effect damage to nearby enemies.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Every character from the first movie retains their appearance, but Depp is the only actor to provide his character's voice.
  • Mistaken Identity: In the story he tells Barbossa about how he managed to sack Nassau Port without firing a shot, he succeeded thanks to this trope. While Black Smoke James was laying siege to the town, Jack encountered the magistrate who mistook him for James. Playing along, Jack promised the magistrate and his townsfolk a safe passage out of the burning town in exchange for the magistrate relinquishing his title to Jack. The ploy succeeded, and the magistrate never realized he wasn't dealing with the real Black Smoke James. Unfortunately, Jack brought upon himself the wrath of the real deal.
  • Unreliable Narrator: True to his nature, Jack exaggerates his tale and alters the facts to make himself sound more heroic and badass, with Will constantly setting the record straight. It's all part of Jack's attempt to stall time so that the Black Pearl can come to the rescue in time.

    Will Turner

Will Turner

Voiced by: Crispin Freeman

A blacksmith from Port Royal and Jack Sparrow's reluctant ally. He's convinced by Jack to aid in a heist so that he'll have money to support his fiancée Elizabeth Swann. When that leads them both to the gallows, he finds himself listening in exasperation Jack's fabricated story about their adventures. He acts in most levels as Jack's co-player.

  • Duck!: When first arriving in Tortuga, Will says "duck" to Jack who's watching a pig. When Jack tries to correct him, Will repeats the word right as Pequeño fires a cannon at them.
  • Made a Slave: When Jack abandons Will to escape from Don Carrera de la Vega's ship, the Spaniards force Will to work in silver mines until Jack rescues him in the next level.

    Elizabeth Swann

Elizabeth Swann

Voiced by: Eliza Jane Schneider

The daughter of the governor of Port Royal and Will Turner's fiancée. She has all the same abilities as Will and takes his place as Jack's co-player in several levels.

  • Adaptational Badass: Elizabeth wasn't in the first movie the Action Girl she's portrayed to be in this game's version of said movie's events. She learned swordsmanship from Will between the first and second movies, and she never demonstrated any ability to throw hatchets. Possibly justified because the events of the first movie are recounted by Jack.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The last level begins with her saving Jack and Will from being hanged at the last minute.
  • Rude Hero, Nice Sidekick: When Jack includes Elizabeth in his version of how he sacked Nassau Port without firing a shot and she questions why she's part of an event she never participated in, Jack responds that she's there to uphold pulchritude, spunk and a sense of moral righteousness.
  • Shoot the Rope: She saves Jack and Will from the gallows by using a well-aimed hatchet to sever the ropes just as the trapdoors are opened.

The Enemies

    Captain Barbossa

Captain Hector Barbossa

Voiced by: Brian George

Jack's former first mate aboard the Black Pearl who usurped Jack through a mutiny. Like in the first movie, he's the main antagonist of Jack's retelling of said movie's events.

  • Big Bad: Of Jack's tale which is a version of the first movie's events.
  • Broken Armor Boss Battle: He will occasionally pick up a shield which you must break apart.
  • Collapsing Ceiling Boss: He can cause boulders to drop from the ceiling during the boss battle against him.
  • Final Boss: He's actually the penultimate boss of the entire game, but technically speaking, Jack's story ends with his death.

    Don Carrera de la Vega

Don Carrera de la Vega

Voiced by: Nolan North

"What is THIS? Could two lone pirates have bested the pride of the Spanish Armada? Outstanding! One does not find worthy opponents every day!"

A Spanish officer whose ship intercepts Jack and Will as they're traveling from Port Royal to Tortuga onboard the Interceptor. Jack manages to escape back to the Interceptor, but Will is captured by Don Carrera and forced to work in silver mines from where Jack rescues him in the next level.

  • Badass Boast: "Make your peace with God, gentlemen. You now face Don Carrera de la Vega, [gives a demonstration of his Thousand Strike Spin move] the master of the Thousand Strike Spin!"
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He may be a chubby Large Ham, but he is also a Master Swordsman.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: He is a master of the Thousand Strike Spin, a sword attack strong enough to break the steel plates covering his ship's mast.
  • Toilet Humour: His interrogation of Jack and Will is interrupted when his stomach gurgles. After he rushes back inside his cabin, one of his men mockingly whispers to another that Don Carrera has Montezuma's revenge.
  • Worthy Opponent: His reaction to finding out that Jack and Will have defeated his men and wrecked most of his ship while he was in the lavatory is at first disbelief before it turns into amazement.

    Pequeño

Pequeño

Voiced by: Keith Ferguson

The Arc Villain of the Tortuga levels. He's a pirate who entrusted Jack with a ruby called the Dragon's Eye which Jack was supposed to sell in Formosa and bring the money back to Pequeño. He wants revenge on Jack for failing to keep his promise.

  • Bald of Evil: He's a bald pirate antagonist.
  • BFS: He fights with a large cutlass.
  • Fat Bastard: He's an obese pirate who tries to kill the protagonists.
  • Faux Affably Evil: When Jack explains how he lost the Dragon's Eye, Pequeño accepts the story with good grace... before saying he will need to sink the Interceptor to even the score.
  • Revenge: He wants to kill Jack for failing to bring him back the gold Jack was supposed to gain out of selling the Dragon's Eye on Pequeño's behalf. After Jack has given him a story of why he failed to keep his promise, Pequeño decides to take his recompensation by sinking the Interceptor. When Jack and Will stop that, Pequeño tries to take his revenge by killing Jack one more time.
  • Stout Strength: This fat pirate can deal a lot of damage with his big cutlass, and he's also strong enough to wield a cannon.

    El Grande

El Grande

Voiced by: Keith Ferguson

"Ha! I found you! The boss has been looking all over for you, Jack Sparrow!"

Marty the dwarf's brother and Pequeño's right-hand man.

    Madame Tang

Madame Tang

Voiced by: Nika Futterman

"Mighty dragon of the ages… Use this ruby to feed upon the souls within these walls… Then rise, and do my bidding! Make me EMPRESS OF THE WORLD!"

A Chinese sorceress and the Arc Villain of the Formosa levels. Jack and Will attempt to sell her the Dragon's Eye on Pequeño's behalf, but she steals the ruby instead and rushes to her temple in order to use it in her plans for world domination.

  • Combat Hand Fan: She fights with two fans.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Once the second boss battle against Tang is won, she's killed by a shot of energy from the statue, which then comes to life and goes rampart until it comes in contact with water.
  • Evil Sorceress: A sly Chinese sorceress with plans for world domination.
  • Sickly Green Glow: She utilizes magic that glows green.
  • Stupid Evil: If she had just bought the Dragon's Eye from Jack and Will instead of stealing it, they wouldn't have chased her to her temple and foiled her world domination plans.
  • This Cannot Be!: When the second boss battle against Tang is won, she cries out that she can't have been bested by two pirates right before she's killed by a shot of energy from the dragon statue.
  • Take Over the World: She desires to become the world's empress with the aid of the dragon statue.

    The Ice Viking King

The Ice Viking King

Voiced by: Quinton Flynn

"What sport! Fight on, warriors! To never ending battle!"

The leader of the Ice Vikings. A Viking ship was traveling to the New World, but it was lost at sea and trapped by an arctic glacier. Everyone onboard became icy creatures.

  • Barbaric Battleaxe: He's an axeman and a violent Viking.
  • Blood Knight: His quote above alone shows he loves a good fight.
  • Double Weapon: His weapon is a double-bladed axe. When he loses two thirds of his health, the shaft breaks, making it two axes instead.
  • Dual Wielding: He starts out with a double-bladed axe, but once his health is down to one third, the weapon becomes a set of two axes instead.
  • Ghost Pirate: Since he's a Viking, he's technically a Medieval pirate, and he's also an undead creature of ice.
  • Horny Vikings: He and his warriors wear the traditionally horned helmets.
  • Swallowed Whole: When Jack uses the King's horn to free the white whale from the frozen lake, it swallows the King who's standing on top of the frozen lake.

    Black Smoke James

Black Smoke James

Voiced by: Steve Blum

"Ye bloomin' cowards and fools. Have ye not yet noticed ye've wandered onto the deck of the King George's Amnesty? This be my ship… and I'm not looking to add any more crew."

A notorious pirate captain known for creating a cloud of black smoke to baffle his enemies. He appears in the story Jack gives Barbossa about how he was able to sack Nassau Port without a single shot. The town is under siege by Black Smoke James who wants to become the island's magistrate. Jack and Elizabeth save the townsfolk while making them believe Jack is Black Smoke James so that the magistrate position goes to him instead. Black Smoke James tries to kill them in retaliation, only to be defeated instead.

  • Beard of Evil: His black beard is trimmed and smokes in the same fashion as that of the infamous Blackbeard.
  • Expy: He's Blackbeard in everything but name. Even the name of his ship, King George's Amnesty, refers to Blackbeard's most famous ship, Queen Anne's Revenge.
  • For the Evulz: When Elizabeth tells James to let the townsfolk leave Nassau unharmed as the terms of surrender, he refuses by asking how that would be fun.
  • Leave No Survivors: When Jack and Elizabeth attempt to negotiate with him in order to get him to call off the siege, he refuses to grant anyone a safe passage out of the burning town.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: This ruthless pirate wears a red coat, his beard is black, and he weaponizes black smoke.
  • Smoke Out: He appears and disappears in a cloud of black smoke.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: His smoke tricks make him good at making sudden appearances and fading away without a trace.
  • We Will Meet Again: Once the boss battle against him is won, he promises that Jack will meet him again before making his escape.
Black Smoke James: Curse you a thousand times, Jack Sparrow. I'll not see you skewered this day — no. But another one, aye. You have my word on that.

Voiced by: Stephen Stanton (as Steve Stanton)

"Oh, ya want this, do ya? Well, come and get it."

A member of Barbossa's crew. He battles Jack and Will in the brig of the Black Pearl, only to end up being locked up in a cell with Will's Aztec gold medallion. After the duo finds the keys to the cell, they fight Mallot again for the medallion.

Koehler

Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore

A member of Barbossa's crew. He battles Jack and Will aboard the Black Pearl for the keys to the cell holding Mallot.

    Bo'sun

Bo'sun

Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore

A member of Barbossa's crew. He battles Jack and Will on the deck of the Black Pearl when they try to get Will's Aztec gold medallion back from Jack the Monkey.

    The Chaves Brothers

Alberto, Benito & Celio Chaves

Three Portuguese brothers who work as soldiers in Fort Alvo Grande, a Portuguese fortress located in the swamps of Panama. After Jack and Will are betrayed by their allies during a heist to the fort, Alberto Chaves presides over their hanging. He agrees to let Jack tell everyone about his adventures, but when he orders the execution to proceed, Elizabeth rescues Jack and Will, leading to the trio facing Alberto, with Benito and Celio coming to their brother's aid.

  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: Alberto Chaves uses the same Thousand Strike Spin as Don Carrera de la Vega.
  • Elemental Weapon: Like Bo'sun, Celio fights with a flaming whip.
  • Final Boss: They are the boss of the game's last level.
  • Flaming Sword: Or in the case of Celio Chaves, a flaming whip.
  • Post-Final Boss: Downplayed. The brothers are by no means the weakest bosses of the entire game, but they're not tough to the same extend as Barbossa, the Final Boss of Jack's tale which concludes with Barbossa's defeat.
  • Sibling Team: Three brothers who all serve as soldiers and provide together the last boss battle.

    Stubb

Stubb

Voiced by: Stephen Stanton (as Steve Stanton)

"Took ya long enough, ye dallying swine! We've been hiding in that swamp since sundown. I'll be pulling leeches off me nether parts for ages!"

A pirate who works with Jack and Will in infiltrating Fort Alvo Grande for the golden Skull of Teoxuacata. Once they reach it, however, Stubb and his men betray Jack and Will by knocking them unconscious and escape with the Skull, leaving the duo to be sentenced to be hanged, which in turn leads to Jack recounting his tale.

  • Ghost Pirate: The final cinematic reveals that the Skull of Teoxuacata has made Stubb and his men its skeletal pawns.
  • Greed: He explicitly states that he expects to gain a handsome price from the Skull of Teoxuacata. In fact, he betrays Jack and Will so that he won't have to share the money with them.
  • Tap on the Head: Stubb and one of his men knock Jack and Will unconscious by striking the back of their heads with their swords' pommels.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Once they find the Skull of Teoxuacata, Stubb and his men betray Jack and Will by leaving them to be arrested by the Portuguese authorities — even though Jack and Will are the ones who got them inside the fort to begin with.
Stubb: Thanks for all your help, gentlemen. But we won't be needing ya any further.
