Dream Partners
The main character and Mew’s Dream Partner. She's a bright girl who, despite being energetic, can also be a scatterbrain.
Tropes associated with Yume:
- Anime Hair: How did she get such huge curls below her hair?
- Anxiety Dreams: In episode 10 after trying to get a photo of Haruhito, she eventually gets one, but not of him alone. After that she started getting nightmares about him and Yuri being together, simply because Yuni wanted to screw around with her.
- Betty and Veronica: She's the Archie while Asahi is the Betty and Haruhito, and later Ackey, is the Veronica.
- Childhood Friend: With Asahi, who's also her neighbor.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: "Jealous" might be a strong word, but she gets upset at the end of episode 15 when Asahi told Morimura that he and Yume are just childhood friends, and again in episode 19 when Morimura confessed her love to Asahi, but she doesn't know why.
- Depending on the Writer: Thanks to its lack of proper focus, Yume’s relationship with Asahi suffers from this. In a handful of episodesnote , it shows that she has romantic feelings for him, but for most of the show, she sees him only as a friend.
- Does Not Like Spam: She hates cherry tomatoes.
- Expy: Of Uta Yumeno from Onegai My Melody and Chiari from Jewelpet Happiness.
- Meaningful Name: Her name means “Dream”, which definitely fits the theme and the role she’s in.
- Pom-Pom Girl: She's part of the cheerleader club.
- Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: The energetic girl to Asahi’s savvy guy.
- Ship Tease: There’s a few episodes where it shows that Yume has a crush on Asahi as well, even though none of them are aware of the other’s feelings.
- In episode 26, when Yume tells Mew about how cute Haruhito and Yuri are together, the latter says just like her (Yume) and Asahi, which leads the former to blush so hard instantly and denies what Mew said and then changes the subject.
- Stock Shoujo Heroine: Sweet? Clumsy? Full of energy? Hopeless romantic? (at least in season 1) She’s got it all!
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Asahi at the end of the series.
Peko’s partner. She works as a model for the Petit Strawberry Magazine (aka "Ichi-mo"), and she’s obsessed with comedy. She and Peko form a comedy duo named “Nonfat-Powdered Milk”.

- Blatant Lies: Her magazine profile is made out of stuff that was made up by her agency, but the thing that takes the cake is where it states she comes from the "Land Of Strawberries", which obviously doesn't exist.
- Catchphrase: “My love” and “A-pon!”.
- Custom Uniform: Her school uniform is pinkier than the others.
- Does Not Like Spam: She is not a fan of natto.
- Missing Mom: Her mother died on her birthday due to an illness.
- Serious Business: She takes comedy too seriously and feels defeated at things like possible rivaling duos or having her comedy insulted.
- The Idiot from Osaka: She's a comedy lover who came from the Kansai region.
Su’s partner. She’s the leader of the computer club. She disapproves the idea of humans going unemployed due to robots replacing their jobs and wishes for a world where humans and robots live peacefully.
Tropes associated with Kotoko:
- Even the Girls Want Her: She's got a mountain of love letters from girls in her locker.
- Gadgeteer Genius: She’s great at creating robots, which takes her computer club to another level compared to the others.
- Oblivious to Love: She doesn't even know which kind of "love" the multitude of love letters she gets refer to. And when a mind-reading robot she made said Erito had feelings for her, she just ignores it.
- Robot Buddy: Kotokoto, her first robot.
Nene’s partner. She originally was in Budo Middle School in Yamanochi, but later transfered to Ichigo Junior High after moving to Minamiichigo Town. At first, she was worried, but went along just fine after meeting everyone.
Tropes associated with Tokiwa:
- My God, What Have I Done?: She feels guilty of Hasegawa not being able to play the piano well in episode 14 due to her hitting her in the arm in the dodgeball match. ...except she didn't hit the arm she later couldn't play with.
- New Transfer Student: Even though she was introduced in episode 8 where she helped out Wakaba, episode 13 introduces her as a main character like this.
- Pom-Pom Girl: While also in the choir club, she is also part of the cheerleader club along with Yume and Wakaba.
- Passionate Sports Girl
- Sixth Ranger: She joins the main gang in episode 13.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: She and her family treat ghosts as regular stuff.
- Victim of the Week: In episode 13, which is also the episode where she joins the Dream Partners.
Yume’s next-door neighbor and childhood friend, also Rei's partner. He’s currently a first-year in the tennis club.
Tropes associated with Asahi:
- Big Damn Hero: In Valentine's Day Episodes of both seasons, Asahi is the one who saves the day.
- Birthday Hater: While he's fine with celebrating others' birthday, Asahi doesn't really care about his, saying that he's too old for that, and even asks Yume and his parents to not bring him a present or a cake for his birthday. despite all of that, they're still celebrating anyways.
- Childhood Friend: With Yume, who's also his neighbor.
- Deadpan Snarker: At times in the first season.
- Expy: Of Seiji from HappinessCharge Pretty Cure! and Mochizou from Tamako Market.
- Just Friends: Poor guy got friend-zoned in his dream in episode 7. Good thing (or not) he doesn’t know that’s the IRL Yume.
- Living Prop: Despite being one of the main characters, he has very little-to-no interaction with other Dream Partners and anyone outside of Yume, Rei, and (to a lesser extent) Haruhito, and sometimes, like in episodes 44 and 48, ends up being in the background.
- New Meat: He’s just a first year and his only work in the tennis club is setting up for that reason. But when a player got absent, he was chosen by Haruhito to take his place.
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: After saving the day with Yume in episode 7 of Mix, Asahi plays a tennis rematch with his rival, who has been cured from the black abyss, and wins, but none of that is ever shown.
- Only Sane Man: He's the most down-to-earth member in the team, although that doesn't mean he can't join their silliness at times.
- Out of Focus: Compared to other main characters, he gets the least amount of screentime, especially in Mix. and whenever he gets some, it usually focuses on his interactions with Yume.
- Patient Childhood Love Interest: He’s known Yume since forever, and judging by a certain point in his dream, he definitely has a crush on her. No wonder he feels so defeated when seeing her having a picture of Haruhito.
- Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: The savvy guy to Yume's (and by extension, the rest of the team’s) energetic girl.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Asahi has a crush on Yume and only Yume.
- Sixth Ranger: Despite meeting Rei in episode 20, he doesn't really join the gang till episode 25.
- The One Guy: He's the only male dream partner in the group.
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Yume at the end of the series.
- Victim of the Week: In episode 7, and again in episode 32 of Mix.
Dreamy Mates
- Came from the Sky: All dreamy mates fell from the sky so they can be found by their dream partners.
- Falling into His Arms:
- This is how Mew, Peko, and Rei met their Dream Partners.
- Zig-Zagged with Su, who fell on Kotoko's house roof, and was later caught by her robotic hand as she was falling down said roof.
- Averted with Nene, who instead fell down on a boot in the river and was picked up by Tokiwa.
- Living Toys: Living plushies, to be more specific.
- Mentor Mascot: To some extent, but especially Rei towards Asahi.
Yume’s Dreamy Mate and the Series Mascot. She is able to use Dream Synchro with Yume.
Tropes associated with Mew:
- Butt-Monkey: Poor kitten gets the worst stuff happen to her, such as being weirdly dressed by a child, scared away by dogs, and accidentally being left behind by Yume twice.
- Supreme Chef: She's surprisingly good at cooking, as seen by her tomato-themed feast in Episode 17.
- Verbal Tic: -mya.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She is scared of dogs. She does get warmed up to Q, though.
Maira’s Dreamy Mate and part of the Nonfat-Powdered Milk comedy duo.
Tropes associated with Peko:
- Ambiguously Gay: He was really attracted to Rei's charms when they met in episode 25, with the only thing he could think of being how super handsome he is.
- Catchphrase: He shares Maira’s “A-pon!”.
- Comedy as a Weapon: Episode 8 has him beat the Monster of the Week by freezing them using his cold puns.
- Meaningful Name: His name comes from “pekopeko”, meaning “very hungry”, referencing the fact that he can get hungry unlike Mew.
Kotoko’s Dreamy Mate. She’s possibly about as smart as her owner.

- Calling Your Attacks: "Paw Authentication: Switch On!"
- Goggles Do Something Unusual: Her Su-Sensor Goggles are able to track Black Abysses and rewind to a previous point in time.
Tokiwa’s Dreamy Mate. She’s able to do dream divinations.
Tropes associated with Nene:
- Early-Bird Cameo: She appears at the end of episode 8, where she was floating on a boot in the river until Tokiwa picked her up.
- Sixth Ranger: She joins the main gang in episode 13.

- Early-Bird Cameo: In Episode 1, we see the fairies making a plush cat. The fact that it's white and that the fairies are using cyan thread indicate that it might be him.
- Expy: Of Flat the mouse from Onegai My Melody.

- Romantic Wingman: After he first comes to life, he starts to help Asahi get romantically closer to Yume.
- Sixth Ranger: Despite meeting Asahi in episode 20, he doesn't really join the gang till episode 25.

Villains
An evil plush cat that specializes in making people go crazy by putting black abysses in their black schemas. Said Black Abysses turn into Dreamy Stones once purified.
Tropes associated with Yuni:
- Accidental Misnaming: His enemies could never get his name right early on the show.
- Dream Weaver: His Black Abysses can be used to create monsters inside people’s dreams, which, as a result, can completely alter them. Yunicchi abysses are more powerful, as they can affect inanimate objects too, and they don't require a Dreamy Stone.
- Expy: He's a male version of Diana from Jewelpet (2009) and, to a lesser extent, Kuromi from Onegai My Melody.
- I Owe You My Life: It makes sense why he’s so loyal to The Nightmare Queen when you learn that she was the only one to notice him when he fell.
- Laughably Evil: A cute little brown plush cat with a cute squeaky voice. That’s the person that goes around making upset people go nuts.
- Verbal Tic: -nyui.
Two identical flat plush cats created by Yuni. They’re his assistants and friends.
Tropes associated with Tsugi and Hagi:
- Half-Identical Twins: The only thing that set them apart are the position of their bowtie and whichever ear is covered by the brown spot.
- Love Imbues Life: The reason why they’re alive is because of the love Yuni put into them, especially since he made them so he could never be alone again.
- Meaningful Name: When combining their names, you get “tsugihagi”, which means “patchwork”, referencing the fact that Yuni made them himself.
- Verbal Tic: They both have their names as tics.
Leader of both the tennis club and student council. Becomes Yuni's partner later on.
Tropes associated with Haruhito:
- Brainwashed: Becomes brainwashed by The Nightmare Queen starting Episode 24, and the brainwashing gets tougher in episode 37.
- Instant Fan Club: He’s got a massive fan club that sometimes even surrounds him.
- Last-Name Basis: Everyone but Yuri refers to him as "Sugiyama".
- Student Council President
- Successful Sibling Syndrome: His brother, Akihito has always been better than him every since they were little, despite Akki being the youngest. This makes Haruhito always try his best to beat his level.

Tropes associated with Lyra:
- Bad Boss: Subverted, she is very mean and strict to Yuni and sees him as weak and useless, but she actually tries to help him suck less by doing things such as giving him a new house and brainwashing Haruhito so he can be his partner.
- Big Bad: Of season 1.
- God Save Us from the Queen!
- The Faceless: She appeared as a shadowy silhouette, with only her eyes visible until Episode 44, where her face is finally revealed.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Takuan
Haruhito's younger brother who lives in America. Becomes Akumu's minion in Mix.
Tropes associated with Akihito:
- Affably Evil: While he is his brother's replacement as Yuni's partner in Mix, he has no vengeful intents and his will to spread nightmares wasn't out of any past experience unlike him, he is just trying to use his role as villain as he thinks it can help make true his visioned virtual world future. And while he seems to enjoy his bad guy spot, he does seem to be genuinely kind to Yume and co., and he appreciated the time Yuni's trio threw a birthday party for him once even if he didn't wanted one.
- Child Prodigy: He was able to make robots when he was only a preschooler!
- Perpetual Smiler
- Villainous Crush: At the end of episode 14 of Mix, he starts developing a crush on Yume.
A girl trapped in Ichigo Mountain who was freed after Lyra's castle dissapeared at the end of the first season. She loves to make everyone suffer nightmares.

- Patient Childhood Love Interest: Implied to have a crush on Haruhito.
- Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: She and Haruhito are both childhood friends, but after he was brainwashed by the Nightmare Queen, their conversations started decreasing. Now she depends on Yume to do anything for him, like giving him the present she made for him in episode 32, thinking she wouldn't accept it if it's from her.
Tropes associated with Kaede:
- Cute Little Fangs
- Precocious Crush: She, uh, REALLY admires Aoi a lot.
- The Matchmaker: Tries to set up Wakaba with Asahi in episode 8, even though the one she was actually crushing on was Shohei.
