https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ecd46506_ee37_48bb_9b7b_205d2ae4af3d.jpeg
"The stability of the royal family comes from it’s heirs. So… I will be taking a few consorts."
The protagonist, the newly crowned Emperor of Tarium.
  • Jade-Colored Glasses: She was a happy woman who believed in Happily Ever After, and thought she had had found hers with Hyacinth. But when he broke his promise to marry her and wed his supporter’s daughter, she became much colder and less empathetic.
  • In-Series Nickname: Those closest to her (or formerly closest, in Hyacinth’s case), call her Latil.
  • Oblivious to Love: She has no idea of Sonnaught's feelings for her.
  • She Is the King: Latil’s official title is Emperor.
  • Telepathy: She discovers an ability to hear others' thoughts, but only when they're under stress.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: After her First Love dumps her and marries another woman.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She was a hopeless romantic who fell madly in love with Hyacinth. Then he broke her heart, and she Took a Level in Cynic and established a harem of men to hurt him.
  • Woman Scorned: Hyacinth promised to send a delegation to ask for her hand in marriage once he secured his throne. But years later, a delegation arrives to announce his wedding… to another noblewoman. He promises to divorce his wife for her after five years, but she rejects him, knowing he will be required to take more consorts in that time while she suffers. When she is crowned, she sets up her own harem and requests a man from his empire to be one of her consorts, disguised as diplomacy, but no doubt to hurt him.

    Sir Sonnaught

"I have the privilege of being able to stand beside her and protect her. That is all I could ever ask for, Father. That is the form my love for Her Majesty will take."
Latil’s right-hand knight, her most trusted and dearest friend.

    Duke Atraxil

"Your Imperial Highness, that’s absurd!"—Atraxil when Latil announced she would have a harem.
Latil’s biggest supporter for the throne.
  • Mother Makes You King: His biggest reason for supporting Latil was the idea that once she secured the throne, she would make his son Ranamun her Royal Consort.

    Prince Raeun

"I don’t agree with her method but…"
Latil’s older brother
  • Abdicate the Throne: He relinquishes his status as heir to pursue a church career, giving Latil the crown instead.

    Prince Klein of Kairsen

"Now… why don’t we get to know each other a little?"
Prince of Karisen, younger brother of Latil’s former lover.
  • Agent Peacock: Dresses very femininely and walks with confidence, yet is perfectly straight and ready to bed Latil whenever she is ready.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Foolish to Hyacinth’s Responsible. While Hyacinth is running their father’s empire, Klein is enjoying all the luxuries of his royal life, partying and drinking and pampering himself.
  • Idle Rich: Is never seen doing anything except drinking, laying around and enjoying himself.
  • Real Men Wear Pink

    Guesta Rhodes
Second son of the Chancellor.

"Do you not like me as I am Your Majesty?"

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: What some other men in the harem think he is, as he seems much too forgiving and patient. Tasir in particular thinks he must be acting, as he believes that no one is as soft as Guesta appears to be.
  • Shrinking Violet: He appears shy and gentle to everyone. However, Tasir thinks it’s an act.

"I’m your older brother, so you have to listen to me!"—Thula to Latil as children
Latil’s half-brother who tries to steal the throne from her.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Latil’s Abel.
  • Off with His Head!: Latil has him beheaded after she wins the civil war.
  • The Wrongful Heir to the Throne: Zig-zagged. Technically, if the Empress’s son cannot succeed, her daughter becomes heir, but more often she’s passed over for one of the consort’s sons. Since Raeun stepped down as heir, his father named Latil his heir instead of Thula. Latil agrees that Thula, although male, is too idealistic and naive to rule.

  • Royal Favorite: She was the previous Emperor’s favorite consort.
  • Wicked Stepmother: She was a member of the previous Emperor’s harem, and abused Latil heavily and plotted to help her own son steal the throne from her.
