Mashins

    General Tropes
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist: While the Kishiryu were sentient weapons created by the Ryusoul Tribe to fight the Druidon and even themselves due to infighting, the Mashins are living gemstones who gained sentience due to age, with the main five even being referred to as guardian deities.
  • Sentient Vehicle: They're living gemstones that can transform into their vehicular forms.
  • Transforming Mecha: They can all transform from Kiramei stones to their respective Mashin form.
  • Youkai: They are more like the Tsukumogami, being originally cut blocks of gemstones that gain sentience after a thousand years.

Core Mashins

    Mashin Fire

Portrayed by: Kenichi Suzumura (voice)

A big, red Kiramai Stone who partners with Juru. Initially imagining him as a sports car that dashes into the battlefield in blazing speed, Juru changes him to a fire truck to express his wish to reach out to other people in trouble.
  • Experienced Protagonist: In an odd example, Episode 21 revealed that he's been working with Oradin to fight off Yodonheim for a good while now.
  • Fiery Redhead: While not human, his color and Hot-Blooded nature still qualify him as this.
  • Finishing Move: Kiramei Bomber: The other four Kiramei Stones (Shovellow, Mach, Jetter and Helico) stack on to each other in Stone form and are fired into the enemy by Fire's ladder.
  • Heroic BSoD: Poor Fire undergoes a nasty one when Juru is presumed dead, initially responding to the news with screaming denial, before being paralysed with despair. It takes Mabushiina's encouragement to get him to at least try and move on in spite of what happened.
  • Hot-Blooded: Naturally excitable and fired up at just about everything.
  • Kidnapped by the Call: He was the one doing the kidnapping in this case. Once he chose Juru, he wasn't taking "no" for an answer, and continued following him despite Juru's reservations.
  • Law of Chromatic Superiority: Being the red Mashin, he's also the biggest out of the core five.
  • The Leader: Of the core Mashin due to his great power and wisdom; according to Crystalian tradition, whoever is chosen by him is leader of the Kiramagers.
  • Parting-Words Regret: Non-argument example; in #43 Fire calls Juru when the latter is heading out to confront Galza, wanting to tell him something, only to back down.
  • Punny Name: It's revealed at the ending that had he kept his car form, he would have been named "Makka" (Mach + aka, red in Japanese).

    Mashin Shovellow

Portrayed by: Mitsuo Iwata (voice)

A yellow Kiramai Stone who partners with Tametomo. Juru imagines him as an excavator shovel, due to yellow being the color associated with construction vehicles.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Gets called "Shoveljii" by Tametomo.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Tries to have Juru discredited as a leader by having him give forms to three Mashins that are still newborns, and then trying to form his own team with Tametomo as the leader. However, this just causes the others (including Tametomo!) to rally behind Juru to get Shovellow to back off, while the new Mashins are too young to choose their own human partners, making his plans to form a separate team All for Nothing.
  • Equippable Ally: Briefly becomes one in episode 17 when Tametomo merges him with a Kiramei Saber to form a huge hammer.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Comes across as this with his interactions with Tametomo; he even uses "washi".
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Unlike the other Mashins, Shovellow tends to criticize and argue with his partner, but he still cares about him and is rather disappointed he couldn't be the leader despite his skills in strategizing.
  • You Remind Me of X: According to Tametomo in episode 5, Shovellow reminds him of his late grandfather.

    Mashin Mach

Portrayed by: Kenji Akabane (voice)

A green Kiramai Stone who partners with Sena. Juru imagines him as a sports car to complement his partner's specialty in speed.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: By the time #30 comes around, he's this to Sena as his undying loyalty to her just comes off as pure crazy. Everyone calls him out on it, even Sena.
  • Aroused by Their Voice: Sena calls attention to his sexy voice.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: No pun intended. He can get quite jealous when Sena doesn't pay attention to him, as seen in #27, where he comes out of literally nowhere to singlehandedly destroy the Jamen Beast out of pure jealousy. Hell, even Zabyun lampshades it. Ironically his eyes turned briefly red during this moment.
  • Palette Swap: He's a green version of Mashin Fire's "Makka" form.
  • Playing with Fire:
    • When Land Mage performs the Kiramai Burning attack, he assumes Mashin Fire's "Makka" form to release fire at the opponent.
    • In a humorous version, #27 shows that he can do this on his own, albeit out of sheer jealousy rather than as an actual weapon.
  • Princely Young Man: His mannerisms and chivalrous attitude towards Sena paint him as this.

    Mashin Jetter

Portrayed by: Genki Okawa (voice)

A blue Kiramai Stone who partners with Shiguru. Juru imagines him as a fighter jet with sharp edges for his partner to pilot him like a giant sword.
  • BFS: Transforms into one when forming Kiramaizin.
  • Big Brother Worship: He has a rather childish personality and as a result sees his partner, Shiguru, as an older brother figure.
  • Equippable Ally: Is not actually part of the Kiramaizin formation, and is instead the sword.
  • Not So Above It All: For all of his Big Brother Worship towards Shiguru, he's more than willing to make fun of him as seen in #3. He also readily calls him out if the situation calls for it.

    Mashin Helico

Portrayed by: Yuki Nagaku (voice)

A pink Kiramai Stone who partners with Sayo. Juru imagines her as a rescue helicopter to go with her partner's medical background.
  • Genki Girl: Has a very bubbly personality.
  • The Medic: Supposedly fills this role among her fellow Mashins, given she has a huge bandage stored inside her.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She is the only female among the core 5 Mashins.

Auxiliary

    Mashin Jouki
A black/purple Kiramai Stone, which was originally the personal train of the Crystalian royal family until it was transformed into a Mashin under Galza's control.
  • Breath Weapon: It can fire a beam of black fire from its mouth called "Burn Blacker".
  • Chainsaw Good: Smog Jouki has a Chainsaw at the end of his tail.
  • Cool Train: One of his two forms resembles a train, with a steam locomotive motif.
  • Dark Is Evil: It clearly is this under Galza's control.
  • Finishing Move: Burn Blacker: Smog Jouki fires a laser of smoke and black flames towards the enemy.
  • Not Quite Flight: In its Mashin form it is able to ride on air through the tracks it creates, which it uses to slam Grateful Phoenix back to earth in episode 32.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Has purple accents all over and certainly very powerful under Galza's control.
  • Put on a Bus: Jouki has not been seen since the debut of Mashin Zabyun. It returns in episode 32.
  • Reforged into a Minion: A non-character example. Jouki was originally the Crystalian royal family's personal train until Galza modified it into a Mashin and his personal Humongous Mecha for Yodonheim's servitude.
  • Token Evil Teammate: It is the only evil Mashin due to being under the control of the villains. It sheds its "Token Evil" when a reformed Galza, now a spirit, entrusts it to Juru while fading away.
  • Transforming Mecha: Aside from the stone and vehicle form all other Mashins have, Jouki also has a dinosaur-like form called "Smog Jouki".
  • Vehicular Turnabout: With the introduction of Mashin Express, the Kiramagers can now take over Galza's control over Jouki when forming King Express. That is, until Galza masters his Jamental allowing him to break apart the formation and later on reverse the turnabout.

    Mashin Express
A white Kiramai Stone, usually split into two aptly named Ex and Press. Juru imagines it as a bullet train due to Mabusheena and him needing something with great speed. Unlike most of the Mashin that Juru created, Express is mostly non-sentient, requiring someone to pilot it in battle.
  • The Assimilator: A rare heroic example, Mashin Express can forcefully combine with Mashin Jouki to form King Express while leaving Galza with little to no control of his Mashin.
  • Cool Train: Its Mashin form has a bullet train motif.
  • Good Counterpart: Towards Mashin Jouki, being a white bullet train piloted by the Kiramagers, in contrast to Jouki being a dark-colored steam train piloted by Galza.
  • Leader Forms the Head: It forms the head and torso of King Express and pretty much takes all the control away from Galza or anyone piloting Jouki for that matter.
  • Light Is Good: It has white colors and is on the side of the Kiramagers.
  • Restraining Bolt: It was originally planned by King Oradin to be one for Mashin Jouki, which he had expected would fall into evil under Galza's control, making it Jouki's sole weakness. Sadly, Galza is able to counter this with his Jamental, first by forcefully disengaging the formation and later on completely taking it over.
  • The Unintelligible: Express speaks in train-zooming sounds, requiring another Stone that can speak to translate for it.

    Mashin Zabyun

Portrayed by: Hiroyuki Yoshino (voice)

An aqua Kiramai stone with the power to repel curses, which Oradin used in his fight against Numajo. However in the fight he ended up sealed in poison until the present day where Juru imagined him as a bullet train mixed with a shark.
  • Animal Motifs: Its head is modeled after a shark in contrast to Jouki's reptillian head.
  • Awesomenessby Analysis: Its Lorenzini Search is a sonar ability, which allows it to detect the whereabouts and weaknesses of enemies.
  • Equippable Ally: By splitting its sections Zabyun can be wielded in three different weapon forms for Land Mage or Kiramaizin to use:
  • Excalibur in the Rust: Numajo's poison caused Zabyun to take a rusted dull appearance until CARAT was able to neutralize it after getting a liquid sample from Juru.
  • Experienced Protagonist: In an odd example, Episode 21 showed that he was working with Oradin to fight off Yodonheim for a while - until he got rusted by Numajo's venom.
  • Good Counterpart: Just like Express, it is this towards Jouki if not even moreso, since it can take Jouki's place in Mashin Express' combination.
  • Intangibility: It can ride through solid matter like water.
  • Palette Swap: His Mashin form is basically a recolored Mashin Jouki, but lacking the dinosaur mode.
  • Protective Charm: Has the ability to cast these to repel curses, which take the form of Deflector Shields.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Heroic variant; since Numajo — the one who poisoned him — was killed by Oradin, he settles for going after Numajo's sister Minjo instead.
  • Threatening Shark: Is partly based on a shark, down to its electroreceptor organs.
  • White Mage: He is described as being able to repel or break any curse.

    Mashin Hakobu

Portrayed by: Tetsu Inada (voice)

A golden Kiramai Stone that Oradin imagined as a bird-futuristic jet hybrid. Once the mentor and aide to the king, he exiled himself to a deserted island after the fall of Crystalia.
  • Airborne Aircraft Carrier: He serves as this for the five core Mashins.
  • Antiquated Linguistics: He speaks in a rather old-fashioned manner, even using the pronoun "wagahai".
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In #32, courtesy of Galza.
  • The Empath: Mabushina and Takamichi both confirm that Hakobu would often cry out of sympathy when Oradin would start crying, to teach him how to let go of his crybaby tendencies. As such, when Shiguru lets out the crocodile tears akin to Oradin, Hakobu cries as well... not knowing he was being deceived.
  • Face of a Thug: He doesn't really have a "face" per se, but he puts up a strict mentor act to hide the fact that he's quite the softie and generally a nice dude.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Is one of the most powerful Mashins, and is primarily gold in color.
  • Motor Mouth: When he's in a good mood he can ramble on for very long, as Juru and Shiguru unfortunately find out when he recounts Oradin's life story.
  • My Greatest Failure: He was vacationing on Earth during the fall of Crystalia; by the time he learns of it and Oradin's death it was all too late. The Survivor Guilt over his failure to save Oradin puts him into such a major depression that he exiles himself.
  • Old Master: He was teacher to both Oradin and Galza.

    The Miracle Stone (Unmarked spoilers)

Mashin Oradin

Portrayed by: Tomokazu Sugita (voice)

An azure-colored Kiramai Stone located in the inter-dimensional land of Atamald. Upon its possession by the spirit of King Oradin, it is reimagined into a crystal phoenix.

For tropes relating to the king, see his section under Allies.
  • Body Backup Drive: Becomes Oradin's new body, after he transfers his soul into it in #29.
  • Character Catchphrase: Tends to proclaim "Everything turned out all right!" or some variant after defeating an enemy.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Invoked by the Mashins. Despite Muryo linking up a connection with Atamald, they explain that they just don't want to call up the king all willy-nilly whenever a minor issue comes up. So, this leads to the team only calling upon him whenever it's an emergency to make sure that they aren't annoying him. Although with the increase of Yodonheim's threat with Yodonna and Galza's refined Jamental, this more or less becomes a moot point.
  • Mythical Motifs: Is modeled after a phoenix.
  • Psychic Link: Appears to be linked to Oradin's life-force, as its color faded upon the king's death; it regains its shine when Oradin's spirit possesses it.
  • Walking Spoiler: The very name pretty much reveals that Oradin comes back to life.
  • White Mage: It has the ability to restore the shine of Kiramai Stones, as Oradin demonstrates when his spirit possesses it.

Shovellow Corps

    In General
  • Equippable Ally: They all transform into weapons for Land Mage, Kiramaizin or GigantDriller to wield.
  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: The initial three have childish if not baby-like personalities, but they are still Mashins who in their first appearance were able to hold off a Jamen Beast.
  • One-Word Vocabulary: Since the initial three members only recently gained sentience, their vocabulary does not go beyond their names, Kiramei and Mashin.
  • Support Party Member: Alternatively, they can also help through supporting a Grand Guardian through their Mashin form.

    Mashin Rolland

Portrayed by: Kazuki Komine (voice)

An orange Kiramei Stone who Juru imagines as a steamroller. One of the three Kiramai Stones found on Earth who recently gained sentience. Initially they weren't supposed to have a Mashin form, but Shovellow tricked Juru in giving them one and made them part of the "Shovellow Corps".
  • Improbable Weapon User: The inspiration for this Mashin was a lint roller Juru was using the day it was formed, as such there are moments where Rolland's hammer mode actually is used like a lint roller.

    Mashin Lifton

Portrayed by: Yuki Anai (voice)

A turquoise Kiramei Stone who Juru imagines as a forklift. One of the three Kiramai Stones found on Earth who recently gained sentience. Initially they weren't supposed to have a Mashin form, but Shovellow tricked Juru in giving them one and made them part of the "Shovellow Corps".

    Mashin Carry

Portrayed by: Ayaka Maekawa (voice)

An indigo Kiramei Stone who Juru imagines as a carrier truck. One of the three Kiramai Stones found on Earth who recently gained sentience. Initially they weren't supposed to have a Mashin form, but Shovellow tricked Juru in giving them one and made them part of the "Shovellow Corps".

    Mashin Duston

Portrayed by: Keisuke Yamamori (voice)

A cobalt blue Kiramai stone that Juru imagines as a garbage truck. He was found during one of Takamichi's treasure hunts and unlike the other members of the Shovellow Corps, he is capable of speaking full sentences.
  • Cowardly Lion: He gets freaked out by anything, but he's a powerful Mashin as well who is willing to swallow his fears to help the Kiramagers.
  • Improbable Weapon User: While the other auxiliary Mashins have weapon forms that can at least inflict some sort of damage, Duston's weapon form is a vacuum cleaner. They somehow managed to use him in an effective manner despite it all.
  • Verbal Tic: Tends to pepper his sentences with "dasu".
  • Weapons That Suck: His weapon form is a vacuum cleaner. It's rather effective.

    Mashin Magellan

Portrayed by: Takanobu Shimazu (voice)

A lime-colored Kiramai stone that Juru imagines as a concrete mixer truck. He was excavated from Earth by Sayo and Shiguru and just like Duston is capable of speaking full sentences.
  • Abnormal Ammo: It shoots cement in either liquid form, which hardens around the enemy or smaller bullets.
  • BFG: His weapon form is a large gun/cannon.
  • Shoulder Cannon: He becomes when equipped to GigantDriller.

Crystalia's Four Grand Guardians

    In General
  • Combining Mecha: With the exception of Gigant Driller, every Grand Guardian is composed of multiple Mashins, but unlike other modern media, they are unable to truly combine with other Grand Guardians:
    • Fire + Shovellow + Mach = Land Mage
    • Jetter + Helico = Sky Mage
    • Land Mage + Sky Mage = Kiramaizin
    • Express + Jouki = King Express
    • GigantDriller + Shovellow + Duston + Magellan = GigantDriller Giga-mori Special
    • Kiramaizin + GigantDriller = Kiramei Driller, which is actuallly a parodied combination through using glue to 'combine' Kiramaizin and GigantDriller by sticking their backs to each other.
    • Express + Zabyun = King Express Zabyun
    • Hakobu + Oradin = Grateful Phoenix
  • Elite Four: Kiramaizin, King Express, Gigant Driller and Grateful Phoenix are called Crystalia's Four Grand Guardians who all share colors with a Kanaema Stone.
  • Finishing Move: Grateful Go Arrow: The Go Arrow enlarges itself into a humongous size, which allows the Four Grand Guardians to wield it and pool all their strength together in one single superpowered shot.
  • Revisiting the Roots: Unlike most modern mechas, the Mashins don't have a super powerful combination between all of them or a select few and instead each combination has their own strengths and weakness instead just like the mechas from older Sentai Shows.

    Kiramaizin

Kiramaizin

The combination between all five core Mashins, and one of Crystalia's Four Grand Guardians.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: This is what Kiramaizin becomes, once other mechas show up who not only overshadow it in power, but also need fewer pilots with King Express Zabyun (who only needs two pilots) and Grateful Phoenix (which requires only one), while Kiramaizin needs 5 pilots to even move. However as the series goes on this becomes subverted once the Kiramagers become strong enough to pilot it alone.
  • BFS: Jetter transforms into the sword it wields.
  • Chest Blaster: Helico's blades can still rotate to unleash "Turbulence", which blasts hurricanes towards the enemy.
  • Finishing Move: Kiramai Dynamic: Kiramaizin charges up the Jetter Sword to unleash three slashes towards the enemy.
  • Jack of All Trades: The thing Kiramaizin specializes is its versatility with being able to equip a grand total of 6 (7 including Jetter) kinds of different weapons. This is best showcased in #37 where it uses every weapon at its disposal in quick succession.

Land Mage

The combination between Fire, Shovellow, and Mach. While it lacks the weaponry and abilities Kiramaizin has, it still has great strength at the cost of agility along with the ability to equip different weapon mashins.
  • Finishing Move:
    • Land Round Smash: Land Mage grabs the enemy with the Ladder Beyond, pulls itself towards the Beast, and swings the Shovellow Arm with enough speed to deliver a flurry of punches.
    • Zabyun Sonic Splash: Land Mage immobilizes the enemy with Ladder Beyond. Zabyun then launches itself on the ladder onto the enemy.
  • Mighty Glacier: Land Mage has great strength, but at the cost of having low speed and agility.

Sky Mage

The combination between Jetter and Helico, who in contrast to Land Mage is a very fast mecha with firepower at its disposal.
  • Fragile Speedster: It is only half the size of Land Mage, but it is much faster, shoots bullets and is able to fly.
  • Mini-Mecha: In terms of size it is only half the size of the other mechas listed here.
  • Support Party Member: Due to its small size and lack of physical strength, it is mostly used as a support for Land Mage.

    King Express

King Express

The combination between Express and Jouki, and one of Crystalia's Four Grand Guardians. Alternatively, it becomes Jaaku King Express when Galza takes over control through use of his Jamental.
  • Chainsaw Good: Jouki's chainsaw tail forms its left arm.
  • Finishing Move:
    • King Express: Burn Blaster: King Express fires a stream of boomerangs in the likeness of its chestplate towards the enemy.
    • Jaaku King Express: Burn Dead End: Jaaku King Express charges up an energy shot with its right arm and fires it along with a V reminiscent of a Burn Blaster towards the enemy.
  • Hand Cannon: Jouki's head forms its right arm, which can still use Jouki's Finishing Move, Burn Blacker.
  • Lightning Bruiser: It is very fast and agile while retaining Jouki's strength.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Jaaku King Express has sinister red eyes on its visor.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: When Galza takes control of the formation through his Jamental, it becomes Jaaku King Express who is able to use Burn Blaster as a regular attack and even overpower Grateful Phoenix, with Galza only leaving due to Yodonna needing his help.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: It is created through the light-colored Mashin Express and the dark-colored Jouki.

King Express Zabyun

An alternative form of King Express formed through Zabyun taking Jouki's place in the combination.
  • Finishing Move: Zabyun Megalo Blaster: King Express Zabyun charges the crystals on its arms and legs with energy that fires out four streams of water that merge into one shark-formed stream. Alternatively with the energy of Queen Mabayuine the streams take on a golden color.
  • Light Is Good: Compared to the original combination, which was a black and white color combination between Express and Jouki, King Express is all white thanks to Zabyun.
  • Lightning Bruiser: It is even faster and stronger than the original King Express.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: To the original King Express with new weaponry, more speed and power, while also lacking the infighting problem its predecessor has.
  • Shout-Out: To three shark films.
    • Jaws Attack is named after Jaws.
    • Zabyun Tornade Cutter is named after Sharknado.
    • Zabyun Megalo Blaster is named after The Meg.

    Mashin Drijan/GigantDriller
Takamichi's personal mecha created by CARAT in the form of a Drill Tank. Unlike the other Mashins, it is not a sentient Kiramai Stone but a mechanical vehicle.

It is able to transform into GigantDriller, one of Crystalia's Four Grand Guardians, by combining with Kiramai Silver himself, who becomes the Shining Kiramai Stone first and attaches on top of it.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Implied to be given one by Muryo after its calibrations and Meaningful Rename, but only shown in minor instances such as The Stinger in episode 19 (and the Shiny Kiramai Changer toy) where Drijan is able to communicate with Takamichi. That being said, Takamichi can't understand it due to it speaking in beeps.
  • Finishing Move:
    • Gigant Crash: A Diving Kick that is not unlike a Kamen Rider's, and with a drill at the end it especially resembles Fourze's.
    • Gigant Crash Special: GigantDriller Giga-mori Special's upper body spins around with Shovellow grabbing the opponent, Magellan spraying them with cement, tears them apart with the Drill Knuckle and Duston sucking up their remains.
    • Kiramai Driller Wild Scramble: GigantDriller spins around its upper body and attacks the opponent with its Drill Knuckle, Kiramaizin's feet, Shovellow's Boom and the Jetter Sword.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Its vehicle form is stated to go at 100 meters note  a minute and can certainly hit as hard thanks to its arsenal and overall power topping at 20,500,000.
  • Meaningful Rename: It was originally named Super Heavy Machine Drijan, but after Kiramai Silver's union with it to form Gigant Driller, Muryo made further calibrations to it and renamed it Mashin Drijan, to signify it now serving Takamichi more as a partner than Just a Machine.
  • Mighty Glacier: Its mecha form, GigantDriller, has even more strength and power than Kiramaizin, but lacks the speed its vehicle form has.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: An asymmetrical version, where there's a third functioning arm on GigantDriller's left shoulder. It is probably to compensate for how the mech's right hand is a drill.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Has three drills, two grabber arms, and four crawler tracks, often using them in conjunction with each other to take down enemies and find some sweet treasures on the way. Can be taken further when combining with Shovellow, Duston and Magellan, which gives the mech an excavator arm, a vacuum cleaner and a Shoulder Cannon.
  • This Is a Drill: It has three drills to be exact and it makes extensive use of them.
  • Transforming Mecha: As a headstone (actually Takamichi in his Shining Kiramai Stone mode) is slotted in, it can transform from a drill-tank into a mecha called GigantDriller.

    Grateful Phoenix
The combination between Hakobu and Oradin, and one of Crystalia's Four Grand Guardians.
  • Finishing Move:
    • Grateful Prominence: Grateful Phoenix charges Golden Halberd with blue energy before slicing the enemy in half.
    • Great Stone Bomber: Grateful Phoenix juggles the main five Mashins in their stone forms and throws them all at the enemy.
  • Flight: The wings on its back aren't just for show and allow the Grand Guardian to fly at high speeds.
  • Lightning Bruiser: It rivals King Express Zabyun in speed and is the strongest Grand Guardian due to being made of the Miracle Stone inhabited by Oradin and Hakobu, one of the oldest Mashins and the mentor of the former.
  • Shoulder Cannon: Has beam cannons located in its shoulders.
  • The Worf Effect: In spite of how powerful Grateful Phoenix is, it still got overpowered by Jaaku King Express to show how powerful Galza's Jamental is.
