Will the real Deadpool please stand up.

When the anti-hero known as Solo used the identity of Deadpool (and made it popular), it got Deadpool thinking to start his own team of Deadpool heroes. Hoping to increase his popularity, Deadpool gathered a group of questionable anti-heroes, among them Solo, Foolkiller, Slapstick, Terror Inc., and the true hero known as Stingray. Originally established as a new team of Heroes for Hire, they were legally forced to change their name after receiving a cease and desist letter from Luke Cage and Matt Murdock. They chose "Mercs for Money" as the replacement name.

  • Double Agent: Stingray was put into the group to keep tabs on the more unstable members by Captain America.
  • Hired Guns: A whole band of them put together by Deadpool.
  • Psycho for Hire: Not all of them, but a couple members certainly fit the bill.

    Mercury Team

Mercury Team

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mercuryteam_769.jpg

After the semi-successful implementation of Agent Venom, the Unites States Army formed PROJECT: LIQUID, an initiative intended to use Venom, Toxin, Hybrid, Scorn, and Anti-Venom as weapons to combat symbiote-related threats like Carnage. With Flash Thompson AWOL, Eddie Brock depowered, Scott Washington "unwilling to cooperate", and Patrick Mulligan "missing", the army formed Mercury Team as a subdivision of PROJECT: LIQUID, bonding four special ops soldiers from different military branches to the catatonic Lasher, Phage, Riot, and Agony symbiotes, which had separated after Hybrid was murdered by Eddie. Each member uses their respective symbiote for a specific purpose and is used as a deterrent in black ops missions and symbiote-related scenarios. The team was sent to fight Carnage when the villain tried to take over Doverton, Colorado. Sometime later, Carnage took his revenge by hunting down the Mercury Team and butchering them. The symbiotes were taken by Deadpool, who used them to gain an upper hand against Cletus.

  • Back for the Dead: The team is wiped out by Carnage in Deadpool vs. Carnage #3, with the dog being the Sole Survivor.
  • Expy: Might have been inspired by the Gamma Corps, soldiers turned into Gamma Mutants to combat Gamma Mutants.
  • Military Superhero: They're soldiers equipped with nerfed symbiotes.
  • Wrecked Weapon: The symbiotes were put in a catatonic state by Scott's murder and were incapable of correctly bonding to a host, granting only one superpower each. Agony gives Super-Strength, Riot Super-Speed, Phage telescopic vision, and Lasher control of the dog it is grafted to.
  • The World's Expert (on Getting Killed): An army unit created for the express purpose of dealing with symbiote-related threats. They are all killed in their second storyline by a symbiote-related threat.
