However, you'd think that with his and Dan Bi's moon and bear motifs, Io would've been named Callisto instead. In Classical Mythology, the namesake of one of Jupiter's other Galilean moons, Callisto, was associated with Artemis/Diana (the goddess of the moon) and was transformed into a bear, said to become the constellation of Ursa Major.
  • Meaningful Name: Io is a moon of Jupiter and has heavy volcanic activity.

While performing with her group at Stark Arena, A.I.M. agents attacked with the intent to steal the arena's technology and locked her in a storage freezer for her troubles. • Raised by Grandparents: Since her parents died when she was young, she was raised by her grandmother.
  • Shout-Out: She shares the same name as Luna of f(x), and amusingly the real life Luna would provide vocals for one of her in-unverse tracks. She's also been voiced by former Busters members Hyeongseo and MinMin.

Alter Ego: Pearl Pangan

First Appearance: War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1 (July, 2019)

A new superheroine from the province of Cebu, Philippines. A formerly prospective swimmer with skills that could get her into the Olympics, financial problems kept her from pursuing her dreams... until she was recruited by AlonTech Lab, who were interested in her swimming abilities and promised her money in exchange for participating in their experiments. In the process of doing so, she gained the power of hydrokinesis, and discovered when Triumph Division raided the lab that AlonTech intended to use her for nefarious purposes. Now, she's an ally of Triumph Division and is a member of the Agents of Atlas.

  • Alliterative Name: Pearl Pangan.
  • Burger Fool: After being forced to put away her dreams of becoming a professional swimmer due to a lack of money, she worked at a Bland-Name Product of Jollibee until she was recruited by AlonTech.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Mico Suayan modeled his rendition of Wave after Nadine Lustre, specifically in limited-edition variant covers.
  • Culture Equals Costume: Her swords resemble the kampilan, a type of sword historically used by various ethnic groups in the Philippines, including Visayans (which Pearl is).
  • Dual Wielding: Wields a pair of swords that came with the costume.

    • Pearl refers to, well, pearls.
    • Pangan refers to cardinalfish in Pearl's native language, Cebuano. Appropriately, her costume includes retractable fins.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Downplayed. Which side is "right" is beyond the scope of this page, but she and Aero briefly argue about the topic of territorial claims of the East Asian seas, particularly regarding the oceans near both the Philippines and China. Wave disregards that the territory she's entered is internationally recognized as Chinese territory and says that it belongs to the Philippines, while Aero tries to adhere to international law.

  • Translation Convention: When she speaks with her grandfather over the phone in her native language Cebuano, it is rendered in English and simply described as "Translated from Cebuano." Likewise, when she briefly converses with the national Filipino superhero squad Triumph Division in Tagalog, it is rendered in English and simply described as "Translated from Tagalog."

    White Fox

White Fox

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7101077_01_variant.jpg

Alter Ego: Ami Han

Notable Aliases: Agent F-One

First Appearance: Contest of Champions #1 (December, 2015)

The last of the kumiho, Korean shape-shifting nine-tailed foxes.

Originating from the Korean webcomic Avengers: Electric Rain, Ami Han is the last of the Kumiho, a mystical species of shapeshifting fox demons infamous for seducing men in order to devour their hearts.

Her grandmother, a kumiho, fell in love with a man who brought out the human side of her. Her umma was killed by a gang of Samjokgu, a mythical species of Korean three-legged dogs known for hunting kumiho. Ever since, Ami was taken in by her human paternal aunt and uncle and hid among the humans.

After using her supernatural abilities to rescue her friend from the Samjokgu, she was recruited as a superhuman operative for the South Korean National Intelligence Service, answering to the callsign of Agent F-One and White Fox.

Fighting alongside The Ultimates, Domino, and the Agents of Atlas, Ami rose to become Director of the NIS while doubling as the official leader of Tiger Division: The government-sanctioned superhuman response team of South Korea.

  • Amazon Brigade: She used to be a member of Domino's Posse, but was inevitably kicked out after her betrayal.
  • Asian Fox Spirit: Ami Han is a kumiho, and her true form is a white fox with nine tails. She's purportedly the last of her kind, the others having been slaughtered by three-legged dog-spirits.
  • Canon Immigrant: First appeared in the official Korean webcomic Avengers: Electric Rain, before debuting during Contest of Champions.
  • Costume Evolution: Her original outfit was a rather simplistic dark blue leotard with thigh-highs, a scarf, and a white domino mask. It isn't until the 2020 run of Black Cat White Fox is upgraded to a more visually impressive Spy Catsuit with a lighter blue and white color scheme which features a more stylized chest emblem, a utility belt, glowing holographic tails, and a white mask with pronounced fennec features.
  • Domino Mask: Wears one that she can remove with her magic.
  • Fair Cop: She's an operative of South Korea's National Intelligence Service and is a total stunner.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Her classmates talk behind her back about how she seems too perfect... and with Super-Senses, she's well aware of what they say about her when she's not looking.
  • Godhood Seeker: White Fox secretly sought to use the Creation Constellation, an artifact capable of turning mortal beings into Celestials, to gain cosmic-level powers for herself. This is because she thought it would've been her only opportunity to bring an end to the Korean Conflict, which has haunted her people since the 1950's.
White Fox: I lived and trained just outside Seoul. Less than fifty kilometers from the Sampalseon, what the Americans call the Line of Demarcation. We never completely forget that line is there. Nor the danger it represents. Imagine being able to end that danger forever. That thought won't let me go.
  • Last of Its Kind: Ami believes herself to be the last of the Kumiho after the death of her mother.
  • Little Bit Beastly: As White Fox, she only changes her ears and tail.
  • Ms. Fanservice: White Fox has been consistently drawn with an impressive hourglass figure. Depending on the artist, she also possesses a bust size rivaling that of Felica Hardy herself.
  • Mystical White Hair: The biggest indicator of her supernatural origin, as she has white hair due to her kumiho descent. In her youth, she used to dye it black to disguise herself as a normal human, but after becoming a superhero she started to simply wear a wig to save time.
  • Omniglot: She knows not only Korean and English, but Greek and at least four other languages as well, as Korean super-agents are required to be fluent in at least six languages.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Due to her kumiho powers, she can converse with animals.
  • Super-Senses: One of the powers she has due to being a kumiho.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: While White Fox is undoubtedly heroic, her role in the NIS has caused Ami to gradually cross a number of lines for the sake of her country's national security. Her actions have included betraying Domino in hopes of gaining cosmic power that she could use to end the Korean Conflict and implanting every member of Tiger Division with nanite bombs Amanda Waller-style in order to keep them in line.
