Main Characters

     Ling Xi
Played by: Ni Ni
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ling_xi.jpg

A fairy who accidentally awakens Jiu Chen.

  • Ash Face: Her attempts to make medicine leave her covered in ash.
  • Disappeared Dad / Missing Mum: At the start of the series her real parents are nowhere to be seen, and she doesn't know who they are.
  • The High Queen: Becomes this after her mother's death.
  • Poor Communication Kills: A lot of trouble would have been avoided if Jiu Chen had told Ling Xi his plan to save her by sending her to the mortal realm. Justified, though, since he did tell her... but unknown to him she'd magically lost her hearing.
  • Recurring Dreams: Frequently dreams about Jiu Chen defeating the demon king.
  • Single Line of Descent: After her father's death, she's the last descendant of the Dan bird tribe.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: She can turn into a phoenix.

     Jiu Chen
Played by: Chang Chen

God of War. He slept for 50,000 years before Ling Xi awoke him.

  • Actually Pretty Funny:
    • Right after he tells her to get out, Ling Xi reminds Jiu Chen that he hasn't thanked her yet for saving him when he was ill. Jiu Chen stares at her for a minute before starting to laugh.
    • Later he cracks up when Ling Xi demands retribution after Yuan Tong pushed her into a magical pool.
  • Arrow Catch: He catches the heart-piercing needle just before it stabs him.
  • Caught in the Rain: Invokes this when he uses magic to prolong the storm.
  • Death Glare: In his introduction he gives one to Ling Xi, who beats a hasty retreat.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Both literally and figuratively.
  • Harmless Freezing: When Ling Xi first meets him Jiu Chen has been covered in ice, in the middle of an ice cavern, for millennia. Although he defrosts and is seemingly normal, he has long-term "cold damage" to his body and powers.
  • Not So Stoic: He has his moments, such as when Ling Xi is repeatedly blowing up her medicine room or when Si Ming is being annoying.
  • Perpetual Frowner: At first he frowns almost constantly — in front of other people, at least.
  • Poor Communication Kills: A lot of trouble would have been avoided if Jiu Chen had told Ling Xi his plan to save her by sending her to the mortal realm. Justified, though, since he did tell her... but unknown to him she'd magically lost her hearing.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: He can turn into a dragon.

Heaven Tribe

     Yun Feng
Played by: Li Jia Ming
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yun_feng.jpg

High immortal of the Military Department.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: For Qing Yao. A downplayed example, since he's only a nuisance to her rather than truly abhorrent, and eventually she does return his feelings.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Shi San walks in on Si Ming and Yun Feng on the floor, and hears Si Ming tell Yun Feng to let him go and stop pulling at his clothes. What actually happened was Yun Feng wanted to read a scroll he wasn't allowed to read, Si Ming tried to get it away from him, and they tripped and fell as they fought over it. Shi San gets the wrong impression and warns Yun Feng to stay away from Si Ming.

     Yuan Tong
Played by: Hai Ling
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuan_tong.jpg

One of the Four Great Generals. Is obsessed with Jiu Chen.

     Si Ming
Played by: Zhang Hai Yu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/si_ming.jpg

Lord of the South Dipper.

  • Paper-Thin Disguise: When he goes to see Ling Xi in the mortal realm he disguises himself as a fortune teller and then as a woman. Neither disguise is convincing.

     Shi San
Played by: Na Guang Zi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shi_san.jpg

A merfolk who chose to become a female immortal.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: For Si Ming. Played with, because he does like her... as a friend. But she's in love with him and won't take "no" for an answer, so he avoids her as much as possible.
  • Amazing Technicolour Population: She had blue skin before taking a human form.
  • Gender Bender: She originally had no gender, then decided to be male, and later became female.
  • You Are Number 6: Her name literally means "Thirteen".

     Tian Lei Zhen Jun
Played by: Hei Zi

God of Heavenly Thunder. Hates Jiu Chen.

  • Unknown Rival: Sees himself as Jiu Chen's rival. Jiu Chen barely acknowledges Tian Lei Zhen Jun at all, except when he attacked Ling Xi.

Peach Blossoms Forest

     Qing Yao
Played by: Zhang Zhi Xi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/qing_yao.jpg

A doctor. Ling Xi's senior.

  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Yun Feng's persistence gradually wins her over.
  • The Dreaded: She's fearsome when she gets mad, and being a doctor means she knows how to really hurt people. It's not a good idea to get on her bad side.

     Le Bo
Played by: Li Yu

Ling Xi's foster father.

  • Bumbling Dad: He's more interested in drinking alcohol than in listening to his daughter.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He might be a fast-talking drunkard, but he used to be the Medicine King, many, many people owe him favors, and he's still got what it takes in a fight.
  • Large Ham: Shouts, gestures, and talks quickly every time he appears.
  • Motor Mouth: He's apparently never heard of speaking slowly.

     Cheng Yan
Played by: Yuan Hao

Qing Yao's brother.

Shan Ling Tribe

     Jing Xiu
Played by: Li Dong Xue
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jing_xiu.jpg

Royal advisor of Shan Ling Tribe.

  • Bald of Evil: He's bald and an Anti-Hero at best.
  • Facial Markings: Has markings on his face and the top of his head.
  • The Good Chancellor: Played with. He's an honest, honourable diplomat who defends his people and is personally loyal to Ling Yue... with the slight caveat that he still has some unfinished business and doesn't mind potentially opening a portal to hell in the process of getting it done.

     Ling Yue
Played by: Liu Qian Han
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ling_yue_1.jpg

Ruler of Shan Ling tribe and Ling Xi's mother.

  • Authority in Name Only: She has never had any interest in governing and had no idea of how to do it. Jing Xiu does all the work for her. The country falls in days after she arrests him.

     Bao Qing
Played by: Liu Ying Lun

Ling Yue's adopted daughter.

  • Cute But Psycho: She's bubbly and completely in love with Jing Xiu, is also high-strung and rather spoiled... and at one point threatens to cut a man's eyes out for looking at her.
