Susan Porter (nee Lloyd)

Played By: Tamara Taylor

A lawyer and Walt's mother.

  • Amoral Attorney: We never see her in court as a lawyer, but she is an attorney and she is most certainly amoral.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: At first glance, she seems blandly pleasant. However, she then proceeds to cheat on Michael with her boss, take a job in Australia without consulting the father of her son, blame Michael for this because he hasn't had any construction work lately despite being a lawyer herself, takes their son with her to live in Australia without sparing a single thought for Michael and does her utmost to cut him out of Walt's life by intercepting all his letters. To make matters worse, Michael gave up his artistic dream to support her and Walt while she went through law school.
  • Character Death: Susan dies very suddenly from a blood disorder.
  • Convenient Terminal Illness: She dies of a sudden illness, leaving Walt to suddenly have to go with Michael.
  • Hypocrite: She refuses to marry Michael (claiming it is 'prosaic'), but later marries her boss and takes his last name. She also accuses Michael of caring more about himself than Walt's wellbeing when she's the one who's been carting the boy around the world and keeping him away from his father because it benefits her career.
  • I Never Got Any Letters: Susan intercepted every letter Michael wrote Walt as part of her plan to remove Michael entirely from their lives.
  • Ice Queen: In her dealings with Michael. She's cold and unsympathetic, marking her as one of the least-liked characters in the Lost fandom.
  • It's All About Me: She has this in common with Brian.
Susan: Michael don't. It's over between us.
Michael: I'm not coming for you! I'm coming for Walt!
  • Manipulative Bitch: During a custody hearing she and her lawyer twist every instance of Michael agreeing to her demands to paint him as a willingly absent father.
  • Parents as People: Whatever kind of person she was to Michael, she did love Walt and wanted the best life for him. Brian even notes that their relationship would have been over if he had rejected Walt. In her pursuit of a "successful" life for herself and Walt, she cuts off Walt's contact from his real father and places significant strain on their future.
  • Pet the Dog: Zig-Zagged. The only decent thing we see her do is cover Michael's extensive medical costs after he was hit by a car. But she still frames this as a bribe to get him out of Walt's life.
  • Posthumous Character: Susan dies off-screen after being sick for only a few weeks. This all occurs before the events of the series begin.
  • The Stoic: She rarely shows any kind of emotion beyond mild amusement or mild irritation.

Played By: David Starzyk

Susan's boss, who was living and working as an attorney in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Brian married Susan after her relationship with Michael ended.

  • Amoral Attorney: Same as Susan: he's never seen in action, but he's certainly not a moral guy.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The second Susan dies, Brian tries to cut Walt out of his life completely. He just leaves, and never sees Walt again, not even saying goodbye to the child he helped raised for nine years.
  • It's All About Me: After Susan dies, Brian leaves his 10-year-old, just-bereaved stepson alone in Australia to pawn him off and never see him again. All he can think about is how hard Susan's death is for himself.
Brian: I'm a wreck right now, okay. Don't you understand that?
Michael: I'm supposed to give a damn about you?!
  • Maternal Death? Blame the Child!: While not outright stated, his fear of Walt's abilities seems to indicate he was suspicious that Walt was to blame for Susan's death.
