    Euphoria
The very planet the LocoRoco inhabit. As it's sentient and you control it directly, it's a full-fledged character, and arguably the series' true main protagonist. By tilting itself to roll the titular blobs around, it means to use them and their power of song to rid itself of the Moja Troop.
  • All There in the Manual: It was revealed on a Korean website for the first game that the planet's name is "Euphoria".
  • Genius Loci: And you control it.
  • The Protagonist: Given it's the character you control and, from an in-game standpoint, it's utilizing the LocoRoco to rid itself of the Moja.

The LocoRoco

    In General
The titular characters of the series, the LocoRoco are a race of colorful, carefree blobs who spend their days singing and eating. But those days came to an abrupt end when the Moja Corps invaded their home. Now, the LocoRoco work together with their own home planet to vanquish the evil creatures.
  • Asteroids Monster: A non-malicious example. LocoRoco have the ability to combine with each other and split apart at will. A single lighting strike causes them to split apart in fear.
  • Cartoon Creature: Colorful, gelatinous, ever-singing blobs that can fuse together.
  • Protagonist-Centered Morality: Downplayed. They make some of Euphoria's fauna "help" them by bumping into them, which usually agitates the creature in question and makes them do something that'll work in the blobs' favor. That, and when they find a creature that has an item they need, they'll attack the creature to make them relinquish it. That said, the LocoRoco (and by proxy Euphoria itself) are only being pragmatic, as the Moja pose a serious threat, so they've got to do whatever it takes to defeat them. That, and they're very soft and gelatinous, so the creatures they're attacking aren't really getting hurt.

    Kulche
A happy-go-lucky yellow LocoRoco with a child-like voice, and the first LocoRoco encountered in every game. He's native to Perculoka, a peaceful grassland.
  • All Up to You: Kulche is the first playable LocoRoco that the player will control in all games. The other members are ambushed in the opening cutscene of the games and seemingly implied to have been captured by the Moja Corps, but this is later subverted in the cutscenes showing Kluche meeting the other LocoRoco on his journey.
  • Kid Hero: Implied, if going that he is the youngest of the LocoRoco members and his child-like voice.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: His childish voice and personality easily make him the most adorable LocoRoco.
  • Supporting Protagonist: Though Kulche's the LocoRoco that gets the most focus and is the series' mascot, Euphoria, the planet the LocoRoco live on, is the real protagonist, as it's the character you actually control.

    Priffy
A prim and proper pink LocoRoco with a soothing voice. She's native to Franzea, a land filled with flowers of all sizes.
  • The Smurfette Principle: In the first game, she is the only female LocoRoco. 2 introduces a second female LocoRoco named Viole, averting this trope.

    Budzi
A brutish black LocoRoco with a gruff voice. He's native to Dolangomeri, a scary forest littered with dead trees and dilapidated buildings, and the place where the Moja Corps like situating their bases of operations, as it's the only place on Euphoria similar to their own planet.
  • Ambiguously Related: He looks alarmingly similar to Moja, but the reason for it is never explained.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite being the same black color and looking a little like a Moja, he's definitely determined to take down the Mojas invading their home planet.
  • The Stoic: He's a pretty serious guy all around, and sounds pretty fierce whenever he spots Togehs or Moja compared to how scared the other LocoRoco sound when they do.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Averted. Despite his passing resemblance to the Moja and the scariest place on Euphoria being his natural habitat, Budzi's very much on the side of good.

    Tupley
A mature blue LocoRoco with a deep, boisterous voice. He's native to Chapo-Wahr, an area that's perpetually night with the stars always shining.
  • Big Eater: He will wolf down anything edible that isn't pinned down to the ground. This is an Informed Attribute though, as he eats fruit, Pickories, and nuts at the same speed as the other playable LocoRoco.

    Pekeroné
A kooky red LocoRoco with an even kookier voice. He's native to Tropuca, an archipelago where it's always sunny.
  • Comically Cross-Eyed: Both his eyes are constantly rolling around, even when standing still.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: The most crazy of the LocoRoco out there, but still keen on saving their planet.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Pekeroné is the only LocoRoco that doesn't stick to singing in sync within stages compared to the other playable LocoRoco, often going on his own rhythm. He sings the gamut of raspy vocals to Caribbean-style humming.

    Chavez
A cool and mindful green LocoRoco with an equally cool voice. He's native to Shamplin, a mountainous area where it's perpetually winter.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Chavez in a Imagine Spot has him wooing over Priffy and Viole with his sledding tricks, only to get his moment of glory ruined by multiple Tupley falling from the sky. It's revealed to be him dreaming under a Nyokki that fell asleep on top of him.

    Viole
A tough purple LocoRoco with a tomboyish voice. She's native to Kelapton, a glade filled with mushrooms of countless shapes and sizes.
  • Hates Being Called Cute: A unlockable cutscene in 2 has her beating down Bomucho after he attempts to flirt with her.
  • Tomboyish Voice: Uses deep vocals to differentate herself from Priffy. Like with Pekeroné, she also goes her own style compared to the other LocoRoco, usually adding a freestyle effect in stages.

The Fauna of Euphoria

    In General
The various creatures native to Euphoria, which coexist with the LocoRoco and help them on their adventures. Well, some of them do, while others try to eat the LocoRoco the first chance they get.
  • Back for the Finale: Pretty much all the fauna show up in BungaBongo 1, the penultimate level of Midnight Carnival, with the friendly ones helping you reach the end and the hostile ones getting in your way.
  • Friendly Enemy: The friendlier creatures help the LocoRoco in rather hostile ways, as they often look annoyed with the LocoRoco and do things to them that cause them to split up. Not to mention some of them outright eat the LocoRoco whole. Despite that, they're very much on the LocoRoco's side.
  • Swallowed Whole: The friendlier creatures never chew when they eat the LocoRoco. Unphook does, but that's just it using its innards to change the LocoRoco's shape.

Friendly

    Introduced in LocoRoco

MuiMui

A race of blue, bipedal creatures and the primary allies of the LocoRoco. They're builders that make all sorts of contraptions the LocoRoco can utilize.
  • Blue Is Heroic: All MuiMui are blue in color, and help out the LocoRoco.
  • The Paragon: The MuiMui King in 2, who also teaches the LocoRoco new abilities when they encounter him in levels.
  • Red Shirt Army: They're willing to defend the MuiMui house with their lives if they have to. Luckily, they are crafty with technology.

Chuppa

Bipedal creatures with elephant-like trunks that use said trunks to fire LocoRoco into the sky. The most common variety are simply known as "Chuppa", and the player can control the direction in which the creature fires the LocoRoco. Another variant, the "Chuppa Pooh" can only fire LocoRoco in one direction, but are bigger, stronger, and can fire the LocoRoco very high into the sky.

Nyokki

Giant worm-like creatures that help LocoRoco reach higher ground. They come in three varieties: happy magenta ones, which simply raise LocoRoco up; angry green ones, which outright launch LocoRoco into the air; and sleepy orange ones, which often block paths and must be woken up by singing.
  • Friendly Enemy: The green ones. They're perpetually angry and are more concerned with getting LocoRoco off of them when they jump on top of them. But at the same time, they're not out to hurt the LocoRoco, and they help them reach higher places when they launch them, anyway.

Pickory

The main collectibles of the games, they're insects that carry around berries that vary in size.
  • Live Item: Downplayed. The berries aren't animate, but they are carried around by flies and also serve as the main currency of the games.

Koona-Koona

White cloud-like creatures that fly LocoRoco to secret areas if the player has enough LocoRoco to wake them up. They've got a variant in the Moonies, antibody-like creatures that dwell inside bodies of giant creatures, but otherwise function the same way Koona-Koona do.

Hohoh

A long-legged being that stamps around whilst hooting like an owl. It allows LocoRoco to hop on its legs and head, giving them a boost to higher areas.

Kelakera

Plant-like creatures that sprout from the ground. They tickle LocoRoco with the tendrils on their heads, causing them to be temporarily stunned.

Unphook

An owl-like creature that changes the shape of LocoRoco by eating them.
  • Riddle for the Ages: How exactly it changes the shape of LocoRoco goes unseen and unexplained in the first game. However, it's revealed in an unlockable cutscene in the second game: it eats Kulche, then as it's chewing, its innards weigh and measure Kulche, then bring him to a spinning wheel that presses Kulche into the shape the wheel stops on (in the cutscene, it's a square), then Unphook spits Kulche out, who's now a square.

Gamumuht

  • Friendly Enemy: The least hostile of its variants, as it only shouts at LocoRoco to scare them into splitting apart.

Domingo

A race of penguin-like creatures that constantly get into mischief.

Cocoreccho

A pink butterfly that loves the songs the LocoRoco sing. It serves as the player character in favor of Euphoria in LocoRoco Cocoreccho!.
  • The Protagonist: Like Euphoria before it, the Cocoreccho in LocoRoco Cocoreccho! is the character the player actually controls and uses to maneuver the LocoRoco.

    Introduced in LocoRoco 2

Olmee

A giant creature that seems to be a cross between a mouse and a hedgehog. Often seen sleeping, the LocoRoco must wake it up by singing, where it'll then curl up into a ball and bash into walls, making paths for LocoRoco to get through.
  • Butt-Monkey: Always gets stuck in a wall after it's done bursting through something.
  • Friendly Enemy: Unlike most other creatures, it gets pretty angry at the LocoRoco when they sing to it. That, and it seems like he aims for the LocoRoco whenever he starts rolling, but never hits them.

Doonga-Doonga

A goofy-bean shaped creature that burrows in certain places, exposing only the sprouts on their head. It'll offer LocoRoco items when they grab on to the sprout on its head and pull it out of its hole.

Gnuphik

A huge green creature with an elephant-like trunk. It sucks up water with its trunk and shoots the water in the sky, creating rainbows for the LocoRoco to roll on.

Purilla

Purple-feathered, ostrich-like creatures that fly about in Jaojab.

Moflee

Owl-like creatures that LocoRoco latch onto via biting their tails. They fly LocoRoco to areas they couldn't normally reach.

Mootohn

A giant, yellow bird-like creature that likes sleeping.
  • The Load: Does nothing but sleep and get in the way.

Hippoli

A bipedal mushroom that lives in Kelapton. When LocoRoco bop it on the head, it'll be stunned and its cap will enlarge. Its cap's springy enough that the LocoRoco can bounce on top of it, allowing them to reach higher areas.

Bolatchio and Putchi

The former's a giant green crocodile, and the latter's a tiny pink bird. Putchi cleans Bolatchio's teeth, while Bolatchio allows the LocoRoco to enter its mouth and sing for extra items.

Kakaloné

An orange fish that lives in Tropuca. It helps LocoRoco by flinging them up to higher areas with its tail.

Funguropa

Bat-like creatures that come in trios and are native to Dolangomeri.

Donchargo

A massive tree native to Dolangomeri that's often found sleeping.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He looks quite monstrous, even for a native of Dolangomeri, but is very much on the LocoRoco's side.

The "Strange Animals" of CaloCaro

Animals native to CaloCaro that bear an uncanny resemblance to real-life rhinos and giraffes. These animals do nothing but graze, but don't mind the LocoRoco using their tails to swing around the region.

Hostile

    Introduced in LocoRoco

Togeh

Black, thorny creatures that cause LocoRoco to break apart and wither. They come in three varieties: Togeh, which are small and non-sentient; Togeccho, which are bigger and sentient (they have eyes); and Gajole, which are even bigger, have longer spikes, and are situated underwater.
  • Sea Hurtchin: Gajole is a sea urchin-like aquatic Togeh subspecies that is just as deadly as its land brethren.
  • Spikes of Doom: What all Togeh are in a nutshell: bunches of spikes that will deal you damage upon touch.
    • Spikeballs Of Doom: Togeccho, a mobile version of the usual Togeh enemy, which makes it harder to avoid.

Bochollo

Green-feathered, owl-like creatures that shoot Togehs from their mouths at LocoRoco.
  • Friendly Enemy: They're absolutely enemies in-game, but a cutscene in the sequel shows one (and presumably many others) take part in the song that gives Euphoria courage to deflect Majoliné's bomb back at her.
  • Helpful Mook: LocoRoco 2 has Mombulo and Garnelo, two larger than usual Bocchollos that help you reach secret areas.

Mooskoos

A ghoulish-looking creature that burrows underground to catch LocoRoco by surprise and devour them.
  • Gonk: The only creature native to Euphoria that's ugly in every way, even when compared to the other hostile creatures.

Cappulicho

A venus fly trap-like plant that fools LocoRoco into approaching it by hiding underground, sticking an appendage with a piece of flesh that looks like a berry from out the surface. If the LocoRoco try to eat the "berry", the plant's jaws will snap shut, eating the LocoRoco whole.
  • One-Hit Kill: It's an instant game over if it eats your LocoRoco, and its jaws are big enough to allow it to eat a 20-fruit LocoRoco whole.

Butraganeau

A plant-like creature that hangs from ceilings, letting its tongue hang out. If LocoRoco jump onto its tongue, it'll grab hold of it and reel its tongue in, eating the LocoRoco stuck on its tongue whole.

    Introduced in LocoRoco 2

Gigi

Bee-like creatures that try to sting LocoRoco.
  • Bee Afraid: Their similar to bees, and use thier stingers to attack LocoRoco, though the only harm done is causing uncontrollable movement when landed with the stung part of thier bodies.
  • The Goomba: The first enemies encountered in Franzea 1 in 2. They even go down easy by stomping on them from above.

Apokay

Simians that hog vines and chuck rocks at LocoRoco, and even punch LocoRoco if they get to close to it.

Jamumuht

A variant of Gamumuht that's native to CaloCaro and throws torches at LocoRoco.

Finmoot

A variant of Gamumuht that's native to Shamplin and throws snowballs at LocoRoco.

Koona-pok

Black variations of Koona-Koona that blow gusts of wind at LocoRoco.

Butra-gabbley

A stronger, more protactive variant of Butraganeau. Instead of just letting its tongue hang out, it uses it as a weapon, aiming at LocoRoco with it and launching it at the blobs.

The Moja Troop

    In General
The main antagonists of the franchise. They're a race of creatures that came to the LocoRoco Planet by meteorite, with designs on devouring every LocoRoco they could find. Though they're defeated and vanquished in the first game, they return in the second game, where they took a page from the LocoRoco's book and created a song of their own, which with they intend to drain Euphoria of its lifeforce.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: The Moja learn how to sing come the sequel, and return to Euphoria with a song that drains the lifeforce out of the planet's flora when sung.
  • Blackface-Style Caricature: Apparently, which is very odd for a game this adorable, as the Moja are not only black-colored, but they also sport big lips and tentacles that resemble dreadlocks. It's unknown, however, whether this was intentionally done, or it's all a coincidence.

    The Moja

Koja

The smallest and weakest of the Moja, which can only cling on to LocoRoco to weigh them down.
  • Meaningful Name: Their name basically means "Kid-ja" in Japanese, since they're the smallest of their race.

Moja

Regular-sized Moja and the most ubiquitous.
  • The Goomba: The most common foe that will be encounted in the first game. The sequel has more enemy variety, and are the second enemies encountered in the game.

Oja

Slightly bigger (and hairier) Moja that takes a bit more to defeat.
  • Unique Enemy: They become this in the sequel, where they only appear in BuiBui Fort 2.

Ojaja

The largest, hairiest, and most formidable of the Moja, being the most difficult to defeat.
  • Elite Mook: They're absolute monsters compared to their brethren, appearing only in the endgame levels of each game.

Mojallah

Moja with their hair shaved and a tail.

Ojallah

Large Mojallah with a ponytail (actually its tail fastened atop its head) and three BuiBui piloting it.

Mojaja

Moja that're incredibly fast.

    Bonmucho
The commander of the Moja Troop and the Big Bad of the first game.
  • Body Horror: His slim, green body is actually a cloth draped over what he actually looks like, and what he actually looks like is pretty horrifying for a game series like this: A gargantuan black thing with spindly arms, long claws, and massive fangs.
  • Butt-Monkey: In the second game, his brethren are wreaking havoc and his mother's concocting a genuinely brilliant and foolproof scheme while he does nothing but get beaten up.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: You're apparently meant to believe he's either the leader of the LocoRoco or just another native of Euphoria in the first game, as he spends the whole game standing in front of the Loco House on the main menu. But it's obvious from how he looks alone that there's something off about him. And then the eighth level of the fifth world is unlocked...
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Seems to have a thing for Viole in 2, but the purple LocoRoco shoots down his advances to her in a bonus cutscene.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: He leaves Euphoria without a fuss in the first game, and does so again in the second.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: He spends all of the first game standing in front of the Loco House on the main menu, doing nothing but moving to the music, leading you to believe he's just a native of Euphoria. But once you unlock the eighth level of the fifth world and the cutscene where the Chuppa-Pooh fires you into the distance plays... he isn't there.
  • Villain Decay: He's pretty formidable in the first game, but come the second game he's just there to set up how much bigger his mother, the BuiBui, and Galanmar are.
  • Womb Level: In the final level of the first game, after he goes One-Winged Angel, he swallows you whole, so you have to fight him from inside his body.

    Majoliné
Bonmucho's mother, the commander of the BuiBui, and the Big Bad of the second game.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Her son simply can't hope to compete with her.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Immediately hightails it back to her home planet with her son after Euphoria knocks her bomb back at her.
  • Meaningful Name: Well.. The first half of her name counts, Majo means "Witch" in Japanese, fitting for a female villain who with just a kiss turns Muimui into BuiBui, and she has similar powers like her son.

    Galanmar (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
A frail old woman who's first seen being bullied by a trio of BuiBui, but is rescued by the LocoRoco. As a token of her appreciation, she spends the remainder of the game hosting the "Loco Race" minigame at the Yamboona Tree.

However, once you've beaten Majoliné and wiped the planet clean of the Moja bunyo, it's revealed that Galanmar was a member of the Moja Troop all along, and flies into space, where she fuses with all the Moja bunyo, creating another Moja bunyo bomb that the LocoRoco and MuiMui must work together to stop.

  • Devil in Plain Sight: It's obvious from her resemblance to Bommucho that she's related to him, yet the LocoRoco never suspected a thing. She's at least a little smarter about it by actually interacting with the LocoRoco, and even hosting a minigame for them to play.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: She goes back to her home planet without a fuss with Bonmucho and Majoliné after Eurphoria blows her into them.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: In terms of how Bonmucho and Majoliné look. Unlike them, Galanmar's body has a distinctive head, which is beige-colored, with the cloth meant to conceal her body appearing as a dress.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: She plays the same role Bonmucho did in the first game: Acting innocuous towards the LocoRoco, but in reality is biding her time to strike.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about her without revealing that she's the True Final Boss of 2, waiting in the background to strike once the player achieves 100% Completion.

    The BuiBui
The Evil Counterparts of the MuiMui. They're MuiMui that've been captured and transformed by Majoliné's kisses to work for the Moja Corps.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Downplayed. With the Moja gone, the BuiBui essentially lost the reason why they even exist, but they eventually chose to build a carnival for the LocoRoco to play in.
  • Evil Counterpart: To the MuiMui, obviously. The MuiMui are peaceful beings that create cute contraptions to help the LocoRoco out, while the BuiBui are wholly violent and create weapons and warships to tear the LocoRoco apart.
  • Friendly Enemy: They're this in Midnight Carnival, as they're not as out of control as they were in the second game, and are more interested in playing with the LocoRoco. That said, considering how insane the carnival they built for the LocoRoco can get, it's obvious the idea of making it didn't come from a place of love...
  • Law of Chromatic Superiority: They're all red-skinned and build things at a much faster rate than the blue MuiMui.
  • Red Is Violent: They sport red skin and are much more intense than the MuiMui.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Downplayed in Midnight Carnival. They're still as chaotic as ever, but it seems like they're more interested in playing with the LocoRoco than trying to hurt them.
