    New Heroes League

Nick/The Rocket

  • Action Hero: Nick can throw down hard when he has to. Both in and out of the suit.
  • The Apprentice: He was his grandfather's for years before the start of the series. Not only did he teach Nick about the Powered Armor, he frequently had Nick around other superheroes and told him stories about past battles.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Nick is usually pretty quiet and non-confrontational, but that doesn't mean he's weak. He has to constantly try not to kill people he fights.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Has been taking hand-to-hand combat lessons for years.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: It's very, very subtle because he's also the Only Sane Man, but he definitely has moments that push him here.
    • Even ignoring that he created a weaponized guitar control just for fun, there is a moment when he is explaining why his guitar can't be nuclear, and he places getting the right parts as a bigger problem than surviving an explosion at ground zero.
    • During his prom date with Haley, he internally goes off on a tangent about all the different ways to complement her before saying abruptly, "Sorry. I was...just looking at you."
  • Comes Great Responsibility: Thinks of his powers as a tool for good instead of personal gain. Probably because he's using his grandfather's legacy and doesn't want to tarnish it.
  • Rebellious Spirit: Not in the traditional I Work Alone sense. He is a good team player, but he wants to feel like he has a choice in anything and not feel like he is being forced.
  • Refusal of the Call: He mainly just wants to be left alone and not be involved with heroics. He usually gets involved with each arc's villain because of his friends.
  • The Team Benefactor: Doesn't come up a lot, but he is using his grandfather's inheritance and headquarters to fund the entire team, as well as provide them with the equipment they need.
  • Techno Babble: Nick can go into this very frequently and often needs to be cut off.
  • Unlikely Hero: Nick would be very happy if he just got to play guitar hero, work on his robots, and generally not get caught up in the crazy world of superheroes, but he takes it in stride regardless.
  • You Fight Like a Cow: Completely Subverted. Nick admits he is awful at witty banter.

Cassie/Captain Commando

Daniel/The Mystic

  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He and Nick have been best friends since childhood and are frequently together or support one another when one of them is arguing a point to the league.
    • To put this in perspective, Daniel and Haley are the only people (at least at first) who Nick really hangs out with in his normal life.
  • Legacy Character: Subverted unlike most of his teammates.

Jaclyn/Accelerando

  • Super-Speed: And she has a very durable body to go with it.

Vaughn/Storm King

  • Like a Duck Takes to Water: Vaughn was never raised in the hero life like his other teammates. Still, when he gets powers and joins the team, he pretty quickly adjust to the cape life.
    • This is shown in the "King of Storms" arc. Before this arc, he got his arm broken fighting Vengeance and the Hangmen in his first fight. Here, he gets into his second fight and not only manages to come up with clever strategies to block a much more powerful weather manipulated, but convincingly talks said wizard into ending the fight peacefully.
