Initials

    General
A line of soldiers birthed by the Space Force in artificial wombs.
  • Child Soldiers: They've been fighting for the Space Force since they were born, as they were made by the Space Force.
  • Tyke Bomb: They were created by the Space Force and have been raised by them their entire life.

    Gai C
A cadet of the Space Force and the protagonist. He finds himself in the center of the war between the Deronga aliens and the Space Force, and tries his best to survive.

    Butto S
A fellow cadet of Gai C.

Space Force Leadership

    Brigadier General Camilla Bugless/Bagures
A high-ranking member of the Space Force and the antagonist of the story. Back when she was a mere captain, she organized and oversaw an expedition to the planet Deronga Five Alpha to study the life forms there. But she callously abandoned her men to die when she decided she had enough data. In the current day, she has risen to the rank of Brigadier General and is one of the leaders of the battle against the Deronga aliens, but she seems to have her own agenda.
  • Abusive Parents: The Initials are considered her children as she donated her DNA to create them, but she uses them as Child Soldiers and guinea pigs for her horrible experiments.
  • Actually a Doombot: It turns out that the Camilla that was acting for most of the story was actually a robot copy with the original's personality while the real Bugless was hidden in a pod.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Bugless seeks to ascend the ranks of the Space Force by any means necessary. Initially, she is a captain who sends a team of cadets to a dying planet and knowingly strands the there to die, having used them to collect data and planning on seeing what happens when the aliens kill them. She uses this incident to propel herself to the rank of Brigadier General. But even that isn't enough- she then lures the surviving aliens to the Space Force, planning to use the crisis to advance even higher, and her robotic decoy with a copy of her personality flat-out murders her superiors to gain full control so she can carry out her goal of reshaping humanity.
  • The Baroness: Bugless holds the rank of Brigadier General and is a beautiful yet cold Mad Scientist who masterminds the deaths in the story and can put up quite a fight.
  • Big Bad: She kicks off the plot by abandoning Cannon and his platoon to die on Deronga Five Alpha, then lures the Deronga virus onto the Space Force ships to have them kill people as a twisted experiment.
  • Eviler than Thou: The Deronga aliens may be scary predators, but they are no match for Bugless' cold scheming and raw power. To demonstrate this early on, one of them attacks her only to get curb-stomped. And further towards the end, the aliens turn out to be creatures looking for their home who are willing to ally with the Initials and sacrifice themselves to save the day, while Bugless is using them to grab power and subject people to horrible experiments.
  • Evil Matriarch: She uses Gai C as a pawn in her experiment and tries to kill him when he resists.
  • Gravity Master: Baruges, thanks to a tiny black hole implanted in her womb, can generate a gravity field around herself. She first uses it to utterly destroy a Dergona.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: She reveals in the end that, since she donated her DNA to create the Initials, Gai C is essentially her son. This does not stop her from trying to kill him.
  • Mad Scientist: The titular experiment comprising the events of the manga is her doing. It goes as such- toss a bunch of humans into a hostile alien planet and see what happens to them when they die, then lure the aliens who have absorbed the bodies of the humans to a ship and let them loose, just to see what would happen.
  • Insane Admiral: She intentionally gets many innocents killed and lures hostile aliens to Space Force territory as an experiment, her ultimate goal being to spread the Deronga infection around the galaxy and create a world of "survival of the fittest".
  • Spell My Name With An S: Bugless/Bagures/Baruges.

    Doctor Linz
A doctor and associate of Bugless.

Other Space Force Personnel

    Cannon
The leader of an expedition to planet Deronga Five Alpha. He was sent there by the Space Force to study the life there, but was stranded by his captain, Bugless, and left to die.
  • Decoy Protagonist: The first chapter follows Cannon, leader of a military team of Space Force cadets sent to investigate an alien planet. He and his crew are abandoned by Captain Bagures and killed off in the first chapter, and the rest of the story follows Gai C, an Initial defending a Space Force ship, the Pendragon cruiser, from the Dargona aliens and the mad ambitions of Bagures.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Gai C's father is Cannon, the Decoy Protagonist who died on the planet Deronga Five Alpha and was absorbed into the Deronga aliens.

    Victor
A member of the Space Force. Like Bugless, he is callous and dismissive of the Initials, viewing them as expendable tools.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He causes a lot of trouble for Gai C and the other Initials, trying to kill them multiple times, but he's ultimately just a Dirty Coward out to save himself and doesn't present the same threat level that the Deronga aliens and Brigadier General Bugless do. He's unceremoniously killed by Deronga-Cannon before Gai gets to him.
  • Dirty Coward: In chapter 4, Victor abandons the crew to die at the hands of the aliens while he flees in an escape pod.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: Victor initially starts out as an ally of the Space Force and the main characters. Then he decides to save himself from the Deronga and abandon the others to die, killing Somaru in the process and trying to kill Gai and Butto as well.
  • Jerkass: Victor looks down on the initials, seeing them as just cannon fodder, and badmouths the initials he is working with. He also proves willing to abandon and even kill them to save himself.

The Deronga

    General
The aliens attacking the Space Force. They were originally inhabitants of Deronga Five Alpha, and ruthlessly fought amongst each other for survival. After the explosion of the planet, one of them winds up on a Space Force ship and begins infecting the personnel.
  • Anti-Villain: While they seem like mindless aliens at first, it turns out they just want to find a new home after having their planet blown up, and Bugless was using them for her own twisted experiment.
  • I Am Legion: Deronga, which assimilates DNA and memories from all the creatures it infects and kills.
  • Starfish Aliens: The Deronga aliens are strange, giant bug-like creatures that have the capability to infect humans via the light from its eyes, which turns them into Deronga as well.
  • Unwitting Pawn: They are basically being used by Bugless in her plan to experiment on innocent humans to see what happens when the aliens kill them, as well as to further rise in the ranks of the Space Force.
