Zenith Fantasy

Originally The Remnant of the Apex, Zenith Fantasy is the name given to the group of the original founders of the Apex, Simon and Grace, and four other kids: Lucy, Lindsay, Todd, and Alex, who are also the only ones remaining after Boscha's brutal assault that led to the dissolve of the Apex.

    As a Whole
  • Action Girl: Grace, Lucy, and Lindsay are perfectly capable of kicking butt when needed.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Not only do they have to deal with being left next to nothing after their fight with Boscha, but then Act 2 one ups that by having Hazel make them out to be jerks who're still stuck in their Apex ways, alienating them even further from the Revamped Apex.
  • Adaptational Badass: They each receive a Next Tier Power-Up from their trek to the Archfiends Car, making them stronger than their canon counterparts by a mile.
    • They also fare a bit better in their fight with Boscha in Chapter 13's rewrite, getting a few good hits in before Lucy rips off Boscha's eyes.
  • Adaptational Comic Relief: In Infinity Train canon, these guys, especially Simon and Grace, all acted as a Knight of Cerebus, turning the story much more serious whenever they appeared. In here, they're practically the comic relief of the Infinity Train side of the story.
  • Adaptational Heroism: After their fight with Boscha, they decide to change their ways and try to lower their numbers while helping Passengers, which is much more heroic than anything their canon selves did.
  • Adaptational Sympathy: They're a bit more sympathetic to Denizens in this story, if only out of pragmatism.
  • All for Nothing: They spent a long time subjugating Denizens, ransacking Cars, and wrecking chaos on the Train in order to establish themselves as the top dog. And then Boscha appeared, and their lives are the only thing they keep from that encounter.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: Amelia gives each of them a Miraculous to use in order to stop Hazel's uprising of The Mall Car.
  • Artifact of Power: After going to the Archfiends Car, they each gain objects of the Archfiends and Golbez that makes them far stronger. These are: The Cloak of Rubicante, the Shield of Cagnazzo, the Arm of Scarmiglione, the Winds of Barbariccia, and the Spears of Cecil.
  • The Atoner: Their encounter with Boscha turned their entire world upside down, so once they get some new powers, they decide to use them to both help Passengers, and help get their numbers down.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: While they were the Apex, they were obssessed with getting the highest numbers possible because they believed it was a sign of strength. One encounter with Boscha later, they now focus on getting their numbers down so they can leave the Train and never see that maniac again.
  • Came Back Strong: Boscha left them all practically for dead, reducing them to nothing but husks of their former selves. However, one week of healing and visit to the Archfiends Car later, they're stronger than they were back when they were part of the Apex.
  • Big Damn Heroes: They come to Hazel Hughes' aid before Hazel drops her to a fiery death at the Boiling Underworld Car.
  • Choosing Neutrality: While originally evil as Apex members, their encounter with Boscha caused them to immediately leap into a neutral ground, focusing more on getting their numbers down and avoiding ever seeing the pyromaniac ever again.
  • The Chosen One: One-One chooses then, alongside the Red Lotus Trio, to [[spoiler: deal with the Denizens made from Boscha's soul so she can "revive" with a clear state of mind.
  • Elemental Powers: After the events of Chapter 9, the group gain the Archfiends' items, which gifts them with some of these. Specifically:
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After constant trouble falling their way, Zenith Fantasy eventually manage to help takedown Hazel by Simon and Grace tackling and wheeling The True Apex, distracting her long enough for Amelia and Alrick to deal the final blow. They then are left alone, and with the Apex disbanding to finally put an end to that chapter of their history.
  • Enemy Mine: They form a truce with the Red Lotus Trio over making sure to have Boscha's soul — split into denizens — heal so that she can move on and stop destroying the Train.
    • They get along well with Phos and Chris due to Phos deciding to save them from Golbez and even standing up to Boscha.
  • Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: They've become workers at the Cat's Carnival Car ever since The Cat decided to help them.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: Three guys (Simon, Alex, Todd) and three girls (Grace, Lucy, Lindsay).
  • Heel–Face Turn: Kind of. Even back when they were part of the Apex, they were still the lesser of two evils compared to Boscha. Once they get some time to heal and some nifty power ups, they stop ransacking Cars and instead focus on helping the Passengers.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: "Hero" is a bit of a stretch, but the bad publicity definitely fits thanks to their past as Apex members, which only becomes more pronounced in Act 2.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: While Zenith Fantasy has a big beef with Amelia's who's both the former Conductor and the current leader of the Apex, It's Hazel framing them for hurting her using a Wounded Gazelle Gambit and nearly sending Hazy into a fiery death that makes it much more personal for them.
  • Made Out to Be a Jerkass: Thanks to Hazel's machinations, the Revamped Apex end up seeing them as a terrible reminder of how they used to be, and Amelia has made it her mission to stop them no matter the cost.
  • Meaningful Rename: They were originally just The Remnant of the Apex, with no actual name to their credit. At the end of Chapter 10, they eventually give themselves the name Zenith Fantasy in order to distance themselves from their past as Apex members and also because their artifacts came from a car based on Final Fantasy.
  • Mysterious Past: While it's safe to say Grace has the same backstory as in canon, everybody else is a mystery. (For the kids we at least have the Noodle Incident mentioned below, while Simon's got something to do with a spelling bee.) We eventually find out what happened, for the most part, in "The Day of Unity."
  • Not a Morning Person: Grace and Lucy are the only ones who get up early, the rest prefer to stay asleep.
  • No-Respect Guy: If their interaction with Emily is any indication, the former members of the Apex don't hold this group in high regard.
  • Not Worth Killing: The only reason Boscha didn't turn them into unrecognizable scorched corpses is because she felt it was a waste of her time. This Gave them enough time to heal and, eventually, become much stronger than they used to be.
  • The Remnant: They're pretty much the only thing left of the original Apex before Boscha dismantled it, at least until they decide to name themselves "Zenith Fantasy."
  • Reformed, but Rejected: Downplayed, since they're more neutral than outright good, but they're still a far cry from the monsters they used to be back when they were part of the Apex. Not that anybody bothers to take that little fact into account while interacting with them.
  • Stranger in a Familiar Land: Once they visit the Mall Car in "The Revamped Mall Car", the resulting environment is so different they have trouble believing it's the same place that they used to use as a headquarters.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: It's made pretty clear that they're not looking forward to working with the Red Lotus Trio to take care of the "Boschazens", but they don't have a choice.
  • Took a Level in Badass: They were originally just a random group of the Apex who were nothing more than scavengers. Cue Chapter 8, and now they hold items of great power that makes them stronger than they ever were while they were in the Apex. However, according to Word of God, they still pale in comparison to both Chloe and Boscha. Especially Chloe.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: It's small, but present. They no longer pester the Denizens of the Infinity Train, and even save Passengers every once in a while.
  • True Neutral: This is what they are right now: while they're nicer people overall, and no longer hunt down Denizens like they used to, they prefer to keep to themselves at the sidelines rather than get involved in any potential trouble.
  • Quality over Quantity: When they were part of the Apex, they were just part of a larger collective of scavengers with little in the way of superpowers. After Boscha demolished the Apex and they had some time to heal, they head to the Archfiends Car and earn their items, making them far stronger than the Apex ever were.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: All of them, yes, even Simon, actually feel sorry for Amelia's past.
  • Weak, but Skilled: They're easily the weakest of the focus groups, lacking either a powerhouse member or incredibly crazy powers, but they make up for it with their wits and guile.

Leadership

    In General
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Their relationships with Hazel and Tuba were one of the main focus points of Book 3, but they're complete strangers here.
    • Grace and Simon's relationship has been completely changed to what their relationship became in canon. They were close childhood friends, with it being implied that Simon had feelings for Grace. They were also ruthless leaders of a child cult that corrupt their group of children believing that increasing dare numbers lead to strength, and as humans, they have a right to take from and brutalize denizens. Their relationship fell apart because of Grace's friendship with Hazel; Grace becoming more moral and realizing her previous beliefs were wrong, and Simon becoming controlling and toxic as he refuses to change his beliefs even when show proof they were wrong. Here because of a mix of Simon being nicer, being brutalized by Boscha, and finally never meeting Hazel, Grace and Simon's friendship is still strong, with it implied that Grace might have feelings for Simon.
    • Finally, in Blossoming Trail, they gained Lexi's ire by ripping off his pages and leaving him Buried Alive for nearly a decade. They're complete strangers here instead, with Lexi's anger of them being more because of them being (former) Apex members.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: For all of the stuff they've done on the Trian, Chloe's only comment about that them is the two are "better than her own parents".
  • Did You Just Punch Cthulhu: They take down The True Apex by wheeling her.
  • Facial Horror: Boscha defaces them once they give her what she wants. Luckily, The Cat had enough money stored up to pay for their plastic surgery.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: They sacrifice themselves in order to send The True Apex over the edge of the car and into the Train's wheels.
  • Instant Flight: Just Add Spinning!: This is how they follow the kids to save Hazel Hughes: by spinning their spears until they take off from the ground.
  • The Leader: Serve as this to the group as a whole.
  • Light/Darkness Juxtaposition: As revealed in Author Notes, gaining the spears of Cecil allowed Grace to control light and Simon to control darkness.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: How they're first introduced. After their fight with Boscha and some plastic surgery, they stop wearing them.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: They've been friends for years, have spent their time on the Infinity Train together, and they function as the Team Mom and Team Dad to the group, but their relationship is strictly platonic as far as we know.
  • Ship Tease: The Spelling Bee Car has Grace telling Louise — who is crushing on Simon — that he's taken. The rest of Zenith Fantasy is amused at the implications.
  • Those Two Guys: They're rarely seen apart.
  • Taking You with Me: They tackle The True Apex into the Train's wheels, killing themselves in the process.

    Grace Monroe
Founder of the Apex and one of the two leaders of Zenith Fantasy.
  • Berserk Button: Discovering Chloe probably sent some of the Apex kids off to the Heart System really angers him.
  • Break the Cutie: Hazel completely tears at her during the Cupid Bee Car, calling her out on turning the Apex into serial killers and, in general, not doing anything worthwhile on her long, long Train trip.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Does this to Lucy when Boscha's attack on her friends starts getting brutal.
  • Death by Adaptation: She managed to survive the events of Book 3 of Infinity Train. In here, she sacrifices herself alongside Simon to wheel The True Apex.
  • I Was Just Passing Through: This is, allegedly, her reason for helping Alex when she first met him.
  • Light Is Good: Her spear allows her to manipulate light, and she's one of the nicest people in the team.
  • Me's a Crowd: Gains this ability while donning the Mouse Miraculous.
  • The Nicknamer: While Lucy was the one who came up with the original name of "Apex Fantasy", Grace is the one who thinks of the definitive title for the group.
  • Summon to Hand: She summons her spear to help Alex stabilize the Shield of Cagnazzo to protect them from the rain.
  • Tranquil Fury: After Chloe spills the beans on how she sent some Apex kids to the Heart System, Grace grits her teeth and growl, but she doesn't lose her cool.
  • Team Mom: She's one of the most concerned members regarding the group's mental health.
  • Think of the Children!: She chastises Lexi calling Zenith Fantasy "assholes", pointing out the fact there are kids here.

    Simon Laurent
Co-Founder of the Apex, and one of the leaders of Zenith Fantasy.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Simon was a vindictive narcissistic psychopath in canon. Here he's shown to be not a big of an asshole like he was in the series and shows pity towards Phos to the point that they actually form something of a friendship (something the real Simon would never do).
    • His interactions with The Cat are much friendlier than in canon.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He can control darkness with his spear, but he's now one of the good guys.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In Book 3, he had his lifeforce absorbed by a Ghom, which promptly exploded. In here, he wheels himself alongside Grace in order to destroy The True Apex for good.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • In Chapter 2, he feels disturbed when Phos — back when they were sentient shards — started screaming in agony.
    • He looked in sympathy for Amelia's backstory and was shocked at Boscha cruelly mocking Amelia for her loss.
  • Godzilla Threshold: He and The Cat don't get along at all, but the group was in such a bad shape after their encounter with Boscha that they had to go seek refuge with her.
  • Karmic Jackpot: He showed actual pity for Phos when they discovered they were sentient shards, and suggested they be wheeled to end their misery. Phos was so moved by this that they save Simon and Grace and helps them fight Golbez at the Archfiends Car.
  • Mythology Gag: His reactions to the Spelling Bee Car is a reference to Owen Dennis' once joking that Simon got on the Train because of a Spelling Bee.
  • Odd Friendship: Develops one with Phos by the end of Act 1.
  • Properly Paranoid: He doesn't trust Golbez one bit when he and Grace meet him at the Archfiends Car. Naturally, he turns out to be right when he tries to kill them after taking the spears.

     The New Leader (Spoilers
Phosphophyllite, while rescuing Zenith Fantasy during the final battle against Hazel, becomes the new leader of Zenith Fantasy after Simon and Grace sacrifice themselves to defeat The True Apex once and for all.
For their tropes, see here.

The Children

    In General
  • Action Girl: Lucy and Lindsay.
  • Ascended Extra: Outside of Lucy, none of the named children of the Apex played a significant role in Book 3. In this story, they're focused alongside Simon and Grace.
  • Badass Adorable: A bunch of kids who have no trouble getting physical when needed. And this is before they get the Archfiends' items. Unfortunately they still pale in comparison to Boscha's raw firepower and Chloe of the Vermillion's skill.
  • David vs. Goliath: The David to Boscha's Goliath during their first fight, and unlike in the biblical account, the Davids didn't stand a chance.
  • Harmful to Minors: We'd be here all day if we pointed out all the horrors Boscha unleashed on them.
  • I Choose to Stay: Unlike the rest of the Apex, these four chose to remain by Simon and Grace's side even after the beating they got.
  • Innocence Lost: It's safe to say they lost it with their Mook Horror Show against Boscha.
  • Mook Horror Show: Their first fight with Boscha was anything but pleasant.
  • Noodle Incident: How each of them apparently met Simon and Grace: Alex was stuck on a shallow body of water before Grace came along, Lindsay was about to be eaten by dragons before Simon saved her, Todd was about to be punished by living arcade machines for beating a high score until Grace and Simon saved him, and Lucy was apparently stuck in a "Moby Dick" situation before they came along.

    Lucy Noceda
The first Apex member Boscha ever met, and one of the few who remained with Simon and Grace after the Apex dissolved.
  • All-Encompassing Mantle: How she wears the Cloak of Rubicante.
  • Agony of the Feet: Alongside Louise, her trial for Rubicante's Cloak involves running to the cloak, barefoot, over a floor of burning coal. And unlike Louise, she doesn't even have a method to skip or avoid the coal.
  • Ambiguously Related: Shares the same last name with Luz and the name is emphasized, but as real world names aren't exclusive it is entirely possible to be a coincidence. Noceda is a Spanish last name, but Lucy is notably more light-skinned than Luz is.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Nice she may be, pushover she is not. She's the one who rips Boscha's third eye off as revenge for what Boscha did to her.
  • Big "NO!": Can only scream this as she watches Simon and Grace sacrifice themselves to wheel The True Apex.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She somehow thinks it's a good idea to act arrogant right next to Boscha. Needless to say, she learns her lesson soon after.
  • Catch and Return: Added in Chapter 13's rewrite, the Cloak of Rubicante can now absorb and return fire at the opponent.
  • Cowardly Lion: She's utterly terrified when Boscha slaughters her friends, but eventually, she decides that enough is enough and throws a heart-like grenade at her and later rips Boscha's third eye out.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Once she gains the Cloak of Rubicante, she becomes immune to intense temperatures.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: While just as outclassed as the rest of the group during the Mêlée à Trois, she's the only one to do any noteworthy damage to Boscha, ripping off her third eye and taking away her powers for a moment.
  • Expy: To the Blossoming Trail Chloe Cerise, being a Nice Girl who uses fire powers via a magic cloak and being the one who came up with an initial nickname for their groups.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Not initially, but this becomes more pronounced after she gains the Cloak of Rubicante.
  • Eye Scream: She already had it bad in canon from an incident with a harpoon pack, but in here, Boscha decides to add to her lost eye with visible burns. In The Campfire Car, it's revealed that Lucy lost her eye prior to the harpoon pack but went with Grace and Simon's story about the harpoon pack.
  • Fire/Water Juxtaposition: With Alex.
  • Gamer Chick: Implied as she assumed the Master of Masters was actually an Organization XIII member, so she knows about the Kingdom Hearts series. In "The Boiling Underworld Car" she gets excited over the idea of getting her own Keyblade.
  • Little Girls Kick Shins: She kicks Lexi's shin after Grace grows angry, and then sulks, about the possibility Chloe sent some Apex kids to the Heart System.
  • The Nicknamer: She originally came up with a name for the group, "Apex Fantasy", but it was vetoed for having "Apex" in it.
  • Nice Girl: Especially when compared to Lindsay, Lucy's a kind girl who's always concerned for the well being of her friends and Simon and Grace. She accepts Boa's apology gift and hopes to bury the hatchet.
  • No-Sell: As long as she wears the Cloak of Rubicante, she doesn't suffer from hot temperatures.
  • Obviously Not Fine: After escaping the Paradise Lost Car, she tries to claim that everything's fine now... while shivering and hugging Alex for comfort.
  • Paper Tiger: She tries to come off as strong against Boscha in their first fight by aiming a harpoon gun and threatening her with it. She doesn't even fire the gun before Boscha's right on her face.
  • Playing with Fire: She gains pyrokinesis after she gets the Cloak of Rubicante, though the Author's Note make it clear she's still weaker than Chloe and Boscha's fire powers.
  • Quirky Girl, Quirky Tux: She decides to wear a red tuxedo for the Cupid Bee Car.
  • Red Is Heroic: Red appears to be her primary color after getting the Cloak of Rubicante, and she dons a red tuxedo for the Cupid Bee Car.
  • Right Through Me: She sets herself between her friends and Boscha after the latter reveals the heart grenade did nothing to her.
  • Ship Tease: With Alex as she's shown cuddling him and even kisses his cheek at one point.
  • Taking the Bullet: She jumps right in front of Phos before Boscha's fireball hits him. Thanks to the Cloak of Rubicante, she survives.
  • Terrible Artist: Drew a picture of Boscha for extra motivation while training. It's... not very flattering.
  • "Too Young to Die" Lamentation: Effectively says this near the end of her and Grace's heart-to-heart.
  • Turn the Other Cheek: Downplayed. While she makes it clear she won't forgive Boscha for hurting her eye and all the things she did, she agrees to bury the hatchet with Boa so they can focus on dealing with the Boschazens.

    Alex
A boy from the original Apex who chose to stay with Simon and Grace.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Becomes associated with the color blue after gaining the Shield of Cagnazzo. Also, his tuxedo for the Cupid Bee Car is blue.
  • The Champion: Becomes this to Corginia after the final battle.
  • Captain Obvious: When Boscha summons a Flaming Sword after Amelia reveals herself as the former Conductor Alex is kind enough to confirm that it is, indeed, a sword made of fire.
  • Expy: Of Sean from Blossoming Trail as an Apex member who got on the Train due to a drowning incident.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Despite the seriousness of his reason for being Trainnapped, he never told anyone on the Apex for his entire stay.
  • Fire/Water Juxtaposition: With Lucy, being the water to her fire.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He's the only Blonde kid of the group, and he also happens to be among the nicer members.
  • Heroes Like Dogs: He's more neutral than outright heroic, but he both used to have a pet corgi and gets along with Atticus, who's a Heroic Dog.
  • Hidden Depths: He used to have a pet corgi back at home, but he was pretty old by the time he was born. He also reveals that the incident that got him on the Train was him nearly drowning.
  • Knighting: Is knighted as a knight of Corginia by the time of the epilogue.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Gets the Shield of Cagnazzo at the Archfiends Car.
  • Mundane Utility: During "Before the Storm", he uses the Shield of Cagnazzo to protect himself and Grace from the rain.
  • My Life Flashed Before My Eyes: Says this after he and Zenith Fantasy escape from the Paradise Lost Car. Given everything that just happened, you can't exactly blame him.
  • The Nicknamer: He's the one who coins "Hazy" for Hazel Hughes.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: The Shield of Cagnazzo is sturdy enough that the author states that a car can be dropped on it and there's barely a scratch.
  • Odd Friendship: Bonds with Atticus because he used to have a pet corgi.
  • Precocious Crush: Apparently had one for Emily, a girl who used to be part of the Apex. Sadly, she wants nothing to do with him.
  • Ship Tease: With Lucy, whether or not he reciprocates is unknown.
  • Sole Survivor: Out of the core six members of Zenith Fantasy, he's the only one who doesn't get captured by Hazel after she assumes her true form and the only one whose Kwami doesn't run out of energy as a result.
  • Support Party Member: Since the Goat Miraculous only gives him screens to work with, he sits out of the attack against Hazel.
  • Summon to Hand: Summons the Shield of Cagnazzo this way when it begins raining while he's talking with Grace.
  • Walk on Water: He has to do this in order to get the Shield of Cagnazzo, and according to Word of God, he can also do this as long as he holds the shield.

    Lindsay
An arrogant girl who used to be part of the Apex, and is now with Zenith Fantasy.
  • Alpha Bitch: She has the attitude down, at least.
  • Bitch Alert: The fact she's the only one of the entire group to still use the "Null" slur should let you know she's the nastiest member of the team.
  • Bastard Angst: What got her on the Train.
  • Bastard Bastard: She's the meanest of the kids, and as revealed during the final arc, she was born out of wedlock.
  • Blow You Away: Gets the Winds of Barbariccia after the Archfiends Car.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She may have a haughty attitude, but upon seeing numerous members of the former Apex crucified, she looks in horror.
  • Eviler than Thou: In regards to how much she hates Boscha, she can be worse than Chloe who at least wanted to save her before having no choice but to incinerate her.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Screams this when Boscha tries to choke the life out of her.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: She was being quite a bitch about not letting Boa give Lucy a robotic eye but she does make a point that one apology gift won't undo everything that happened.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: The gadget she uses during their first fight with Boscha allows her to unleash supersonic screams. This being Boscha, it's a No-Sell.
  • Mundane Utility: As shown in Chapter 10, she can use the Winds to either lower someone's descent, or as a makeshift hair dryer.
  • Not Quite Flight: She can manipulate the Winds to make herself look like she's flying.
  • Token Flyer: She's the only member of the group who can fly, though in her case it's Not Quite Flight, since she's using the Winds of Barbariccia to levitate herself. It's still more flying than anybody else can do, though.
  • Too Important to Walk: Once she gets the Winds of Barbariccia, Lindsay prefers to "fly" everywhere rather than walk.

    Todd
A tech-savvy kid from the original Apex, now allied with Zenith Fantasy.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Boscha breaks off his arm and beats him up with it. Luckily, he eventually finds a replacement.
  • Appendage Assimilation: This is how he gets the Arm of Scarmiglione, which he receives in the Archfiends Car.
  • Barrier Warrior: Can create barriers with the ground around him, though these can only take so much damage.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just before Lexi can tear deep into Goh, Todd appears and tells Lexi to stop, the book Denizen initially refusing before the rest of Zenith Fantasy arrive.
  • Big "NO!": Screams this upon learning that he no longer has the high score in the Double Dragons arcade game at the Revamped Mall Car.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He can control the earth around him, which proves handy when the group need a barrier to block Boscha's meteor shower.
  • Make Them Rot: One of the many things he can do with the Arm of Scarmiglione, which he puts to good use against the dragon the group fights in Chapter 10.
  • Odd Friendship: Appears to have formed one with Goh, as he's quick to come to his defense when Lexi starts tearing into him.
  • Power Gauntlet: Tries to attack Boscha while wearing what appears to be Garnet's gauntlets. Keyword being tries.
  • The Stool Pigeon: He's the one who snitches Lucy's training during breakfast in Chapter 4. Lindsay even calls him out on this.

Allies

    Hazel "Hazy" Hughes (Unmarked Spoilers
A Passenger mentioned by Nico during the Spelling Bee Car. She eventually appears again in the very next Car, this being The Boiling Underworld Car.
  • Alliterative Name: Hazel Hughes.
  • Ambiguous Situation: How good she is as a person is rather unclear; on the one hand, as a former member of the Apex, there's no doubt she must have blood on her hands. On the other hand, she doesn't seem to be actively malicious, and spends more time running away from the other Hazel than doing anything mean spirited of her own. That said, she did kill Tuba and caused Hazel's mind to slip into evil...
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She's so thankful to Zenith Fantasy for saving her that she decides to join them, despite Lexi's protests.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: Does this to Lexi when she makes it clear that yes, she will join Zenith Fantasy no matter what Lexi says.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Gets mentioned during "The Spelling Bee Car" before debuting in full the very next Car. And she's also that Apex kid who killed Tuba.
  • Children Are Innocent: Discussed. After saving her from a Cruel and Unusual Death, Grace tries to argue how awful it was to Hazel because this Hazel is an innocent girl. The other Hazel, however, is quick to point out that as a former member of the Apex, she's not as innocent as Grace would like to believe, which she doesn't refute.
  • Confronting Your Impostor: She encounters Hazel's during the Cupid Bee Car saga, with she and the Zenith Fantasy kids distracting her enougu for Hazy to meet Amelia and unravel Hazel's plot.
  • Damsel in Distress: She gets caught by the other Hazel and is nearly dropped down to an acidic death before Zenith Fantasy saves her.
  • Every Lady Should Curtsy: She curtsies while introducing herself to Amelia.
  • Foil: To Chloe. Both of them are identified by nicknames that they prefer to be called by; Chloe's nickname was thought up by Specter after her name, and she prefers to be called Chloe rather than Koharu for some reason, while Hazy's nickname was thought on the spot and is used for convenience and to tell her apart from the other Hazel. Chloe's an Action Girl with Combo Platter Powers, Hazy's a Non Action Girl who's essentially just a normal kid. Finally, both of them were treated like they had no choice in what they wanted; Chloe in becoming a research fellow, Hazy in wanting to join Zenith Fantasy. But while Chloe let the anger fester until she boiled over and didn't respond to her father until she snapped, Hazy refuses to take Lexi's crap and joins Zenith Fantasy anyway against his protests.
  • The Ghost: Has only been mentioned so far. She eventually appears in "The Boiling Underworld Car".
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She wears a purple dress for the Cupid Bee Car ball.
  • Identical Stranger: A plot point; she looks like the splitting image of Hazel, which prompts the latter to Kill and Replace in order to further her own goals.
  • In-Series Nickname: She's dubbed "Hazy" in order to tell her apart from the other Hazel.
  • It's All My Fault: She's the one who killed Tuba and set Hazel off into the massacre across the Train. Toby has to tell her that ultimately it was Hazel who chose to become evil.
  • Living Macguffin: Is this to Hazel; her very existence could unravel her plan simply by revealing she's the real Hazel Hughes rather than the other Hazel, so she needs to be taken out of the picture.
  • Neck Lift: On the receiving end of one from Hazel, who doesn't waste time dangling her over a pool of stomach acid, ready to kill her.
  • Nice Girl: She's thankful to Zenith Fantasy for saving her, and defends them when Lexi tries to dissuade her from joining them.
  • Non Action Girl: She doesn't even try to fight back against Hazel once she winds up cornered by her. Though given this is Hazel, it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted, since she shares the same name as the Hazel from Infinity Train. This is important.
  • Spanner in the Works: Serves as this to Hazel, whose entire plan hinges on impersonating her in order to get a spot on the Apex. And indeed, she's ultimately the one who unravels Hazel's plan, by revealing her existence to Amelia.
  • Sixth Ranger: She joins Zenith Fantasy after they rescue her.
  • The Team Normal: Since she joined Zenith Fantasy after they got the items from the Archfiends, she's the only member of the team to have no powers whatsoever.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Remember how Hazel mentioned an Apex kid murdering Tuba? Turns out it was Hazy who did the deed.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her very existence spoils Hazel's plan in a big way.

    Emily (Unmarked Spoilers
A girl who used to be part of the Apex, but deserted and is now staying at a Car with dragons in it.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Is described as dark-skinned.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: She's gifted the Dragon Miraculous by Hazel for her attack on Azada, and then uses it again while the group goes to confront Hazel at the Mall Car.
  • Brutal Honesty: She tells Alex, who apparently had a crush on her, that they'll never be an item.
  • Bullying a Dragon: By the time she threw rocks at Grace, Zenith Fantasy had the items of the Archfiends with them, and they had just driven away an actual dragon moments before. Really, she was lucky that Grace didn't want a fight by then.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: More like acceptance, but still; once Zenith Fantasy defeats her and her dragon during the attack in Azada, she decides to join their group for real.
  • Dragon Tamer: She ended up bonding with one of the dragons that Zenith Fantasy took down, and takes this same dragon with her during the attack at Azada.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Goes from an antagonist against Zenith Fantasy to joining them after they defeat her in Azada.
  • Skewed Priorities: She feels more sorry for the dragon that was driven away, which acted like an engine of destruction, than the Passengers that were nearly fried alive by it.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Zenith Fantasy drive away the dragon that was trying to fry some passengers, and she snaps at them to leave, still angry about everything the Apex used to do.
