Vali Team

An independent team led by the current White Dragon Emperor host, Vali Lucifer. Vali, and the companions who follow him, sided with Ophis' Khaos Brigade in the early story arcs on the promise that they would be granted the chance to battle powerful enemies; clashing with Issei's group several times. In the aftermath of Diodora Astaroth's death, the Vali Team breaks off their partnership with the Khaos Brigade, and battle enemies alongside Issei and company.

Members

    In General

  • Anti-Hero Team: They are former members of a terrorist organization and most of their members tend to be more pragmatic than the main heroes, particularly Vali and Kuroka.
  • Badass Crew: They are a team led by Vali who can kick ass when they need to.
  • Defector from Decadence: They defect from the Khaos Brigade after Diodora's death.
  • Easily Forgiven: After defeating the remnants of the Khaos Brigade, the group is pardoned for their crimes and joins The Alliance.
  • Friendly Enemy: More to the Gremory team rather than The Alliance. They were wanted terrorists after all.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After helping The Alliance fight off the Khaos Brigade, Vali's team joins them.
  • Hero of Another Story: They have their own adventures as well as battles that they've fought. We have only seen one story from their perspective so far, while the rest have been through second-hand story telling.
  • The Pardon: The main reason for their Heel–Face Turn: for their help against the Remnants of the Khaos Brigade, The Vali Team not only are allowed to join The Alliance but are receive pardons for their actions. This allows Le Fay to make a Magician's Contract with Issei.
  • Psycho Rangers: They initially serve as a dark sentai counterpart to Issei's team, before their eventual Heel–Face Turn.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Who, according to Issei, have nothing better to do.
  • Renegade Splinter Faction: They break away from the Khaos Brigade at the end of volume 6 to side with the heroes.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Kuroka and Le Fay are the two girls in a team with Vali, Bikou, and Arthur.
  • Walking the Earth: The group only ever helped the Khaos Brigade out of convenience (and in Vali's case, looking for strong opponents). It's revealed that in the grand scheme of things, all they've been doing is coasting around doing whatever work comes up.

"I don’t have any interest in living long. I just regret being born in this age. A world without God. — I wanted to try and defeat God."

The grandson of Rizevim Livan Lucifer and son of Razevan Lucifer, Vali is the current wielder of Divine Dividing, the Sacred Gear containing the White Dragon Albion. Vali is a warrior in the service of Azazel before defecting to the Khaos Brigade because peace is boring for him.

  • Achilles' Heel: Like Issei, he's also weak to both anti-dragon and anti-devil attacks (the former because of his draconic Sacred Gear, and the latter is because he's a descendant of the original Lucifer).
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: One of his hobbies in the future is digging and discovering ancient artifacts left by the Old Gods and Satans alongside his duties as an Ultimate-class Devil (or possibly an Archdevil himself).
  • Always Someone Better: Zig-zagged. Originally, he was far stronger than Issei, and was one of the reasons Issei had to become stronger. However, the tables turned with Issei's resurrection in Volume 12. This came to a head in Volume 20, where Vali himself thinks this of Issei.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: This is how Tobio really feels about Vali.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He is finally promoted as an Ultimate-class Devil after the War of Evil Dragons. Part of the reason is his being a hero who beat Qlippoth alongside Issei, the other half of him being a descendant of the original Lucifer, thus needed to substitute for Sirzechs after he got sealed with Trihexa. Azazel and Sirzechs even discussed that it is only matter of time for Vali to take the title of Lucifer.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: He's the leader of his team who can kick major ass should his enemies ever fight him, as Kokabiel found out the hard way.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Juggernaut Overdrive, was considered this when Vali first unlocked it. Despite increasing Vali's power to enough to fight against God-class beings, the form only lasted for an extremely short period of time, which only allowed Vali to use for a single attack. Sun Wukong later calls him out on the impracticality of the form later on. Though, during volume 24, it is revealed that Vali managed to stabilize the consumption of the form, allowing him to use it for long term battles.
  • Badass Bookworm: He has just read through Norse magic in a day and suddenly is able to pull off those crazy moves.
  • Badass Creed:
    • His new Juggernaut Drive chant, Juggernaut Overdrive.
"I, who is about to awaken, am the White Dragon who will take the law down to the darkness. What we strengthen is the height of the Heavenly Dragon! The path we go is the road of the domination of the White Dragon! We stop the infinite and devour the dream! I walk the road of domination with infinite destruction and by piercing through the imaginary dream. I shall become a pure Emperor of White Dragon. And I shall have you obey the silver-white illusions and the perfect evil ways."
    • He uses a new chant for his "Dragon Lucifer Drive":
"The pure White Dragon dwelling within me, rise up from your supremacy, The silvery-white Morning Star I possess within me, claim the throne of Dawn, The jet-black God of Infinity, The mysterious and unfathomable father of Devils, We shall transcend the limits to accept the oath, Thou shalt kneel down before our bright and glorious existence!"
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: In Volume 4, he captures Kokabiel and helps seal him in the Underworld.
  • Better than Sex: He'd rather be fighting strong opponents than having sex and is definitely one of the few men in the series who's not a pervert.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He and his team happen to find Asia while traveling through a Dimensional Gap, and return her to Rias safely before she can be completely erased in the void. But even more heroic than this, in the very same scene, is how he showed up to keep Issei from being completely consumed by the dragon, when no one else possibly could. A huge Heel–Face Turn given how it had been barely any time since he was the Big Bad for Issei and company.
  • Bilingual Bonus: His name's alternate spelling, "Wali" in Arabic and some languages, meaning ''legal guardian'' This applies in the EX spin-off, where he became one to Issei's children along with Kiba in the future.
  • Bishōnen: One of the many contrasts between him and Issei. The later comments that it's kind of a waste since Vali has no interest in girls.
  • Blood Knight: It's his lifelong goal, thus the peace between devils, fallen angels and angels doesn't sit too well for him. Issei and Azazel frequently call him a "battle maniac".
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: His allegiance mostly depends more on "which side allows me to fight stronger opponents" than "what's good for society". He is staunchly against his grandfather, even though their attraction to conflict and desire to defeat Great Red makes them more similar than he'd care to admit.
  • Born Winner: Just take a look at what he has. Naturally huge demonic power due to being a descendant of Lucifer, being the owner of one of the strongest Sacred Gears, and being a genius at basically anything he puts his mind to.
  • Broken Ace: He's descended from the original Lucifer with the EX spinoff even softly recognizing him as both a future Super Devil and one of the Archdevils, and as such, he has enough magical power and potential to learn Norse magic by simply reading it. He's also extremely strong and can maintain Balance Breaker for months, according to Azazel. To top it off he could control and use Juggernaut Drive for a few minutes without losing control, making him a Foil to Issei. All of this is counterbalanced by his frankly shitty father and grandfather, his only comfort in his childhood being his mother and her noodles. Vali even envies Issei for having Good Parents.
  • Cassandra Truth: In the SLASH/DOG prequel novel, Tobio and his friends (who've only recently been thrust into the supernatural world), dismiss Vali's claims of being the descendant of Lucifer and carrier of the Vanishing Dragon as mere Chuunibyou, but it later turns out to be true.
  • Characterization Marches On: Vali from the early volumes feels like a completely different character. During his fight with Issei, he happily threatens to kill Issei's parents just to get a rise out of him, and leaves eager to clash with Issei again. While he is still interested in fighting Issei afterward, their relationship changes rather quickly to Friendly Rivals who spend much more time fighting with each other than against each other. He also displayed his alliance with the Khaos Brigade by attacking Azazel unprovoked despite the latter later being established as his Parental Substitute.
  • Chuunibyou: How Tobio and his friends dismissed Vali's claims in SLASH/DOG although in Volume 24 Lavinia shows Issei Vali's profile material collection which was written four years ago, that includes lines Vali has said in the series before meaning that he does indeed suffer a bit from this.
  • The Comically Serious: If him mistaking Mil-tan for a Cat Girl and not understanding porn don't drive the point home... plus, the one of the first thing Ex needs to do under his apprenticeship is to wash the dishes, six months non-stop.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He wears black clothing and is one of the heroes of the series.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Volume 21 gives focus to his backstory and why he wants to be strong.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: How he got Juggernaut Overdrive. Rather than talking to the past possessors of Divine Dividing, he literally beats the crap out of them.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: He threatens Issei's family to his face during their duel, and gets the tar beaten out of him.
  • The Dog Bites Back: At the end of volume 20, Vali chops off Rizevim's arm when the latter is defeated by Issei.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: After threatening Issei's family in volume 4, he's on the receiving end of a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown from the former.
  • Establishing Character Moment: His introductory scene has him worfing Kokabiel, who had been easily handling the Occult Research Club up until that point, establishing the huge gap between his abilities and Issei's.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Vali is willing to abandon his Parental Substitute Azazel and join a terrorist group just to get more chances to fight, but his human mother was the sole member of his biological family who ever showed him any love, and he was willing to take Razevan's abuse so it wouldn't be directed at her.
  • Evil Counterpart: While Vali is not really "Evil", he is naturally a more serious counterpart to Issei.
  • Flat "What": He is flabbergasted that the "Oppai Dragon" song, of all things, is what's needed to calm down an out-of-control, One-Winged Angel Issei.
  • The Gift: It is noted that due to his heritage, he has immense talent that allows him to quickly become stronger and that even without working much he is very strong. Meanwhile, his rival; Issei, has to undergo Training from Hell to be able to keep up with Vali and his growth.
  • Foil: To Issei — he's talented, and said to be the strongest holder of Divine Dividing thus far, while Issei lacks any kind of talent and is said to be the weakest holder of Boosted Gear thus far. In terms of personality Vali is more interested in fighting just as Issei is towards sex. Their upbringing are also different. While Issei's childhood was filled with happiness and love, Vali's was anything but. On a more comedic note, while Vali definitely sees fighting as Better than Sex, turns out he does have an interest in women, particularly their butts as opposed to their breasts.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Vali is a half-Devil/half-Human hybrid.
  • Heroes Gone Fishing: He goes fishing with Issei's group in Volume 22.
  • Hypocrite: He's sent by Azazel to stop Kokabiel's to reignite war between the Three Factions out of boredom (and a desire to establish Fallen Angels as superior), telling the Fallen Angel that he's overstepped his boundaries before defeating him. One volume later, he turns on Azazel and joins a terrorist brigade out of boredom with the Factions' desire for peace.
  • Hybrid Power: Due to his hybrid nature, he inherited the vast demonic powers of the Lucifer bloodline due to his devil side, in addition to his human side allowing him to obtain Divine Dividing.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: Kuroka frequently teases him and asks to make out with him, but Vali is only interested in prospective opponents. Issei postulates that Vali might be gay to be able to ignore her seductive body and personality. It is something Azazel is worried about as well.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: Inverted. Vali craves strong opponents, and part of the reason he ends up allied with DXD is because their enemies keep pulling out increasing impressive foes.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: He starts to show this in volume 20, after seeing Issei and Asia reuniting with their family. Also, in Slash/Dog, Vali has a soft spot for Lavinia, who acts like a Cool Big Sis to him.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: When Aži Dahāka traps him in a Lotus-Eater Machine, it shows that his ideal world is one where he's completely normal, but has a loving family.
  • Instant Expert: Vali was show to be able to learn Norse magic just by quickly reading a book about it.
  • I Shall Taunt You: He has no problems taunting his rivals while dueling with them.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: He tracks his mother down years after he ran away and was separated from her, but her memories were wiped and she's already started a new family and given birth to half-siblings. Rather than introduce himself and potentially involve her in the supernatural again, Vali opts to instead let her and his half-siblings live their lives in peace.
  • I Was Just Passing Through: His excuse for rescuing Asia from the void around the time of Shalba's first defeat. Turns out he was also trying to get Gogmagog, and just happened to see Asia.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Though Vali can be arrogant and ruthless when he needs to, he does care about his comrades and views Issei as a Worthy Opponent.
  • The Juggernaut: He also has access to Juggernaut Drive, but it won't kill him because he can temporarily control it by consuming his vast magic reserves inherited from the original Lucifer.
  • Last of His Kind: After the death of Rizevim Livan Lucifer, Vali seemes to be the only remaining descendant of the original Lucifer left.
  • The Leader: He is the most powerful member of the team and rival to Issei Hyoudou. He gives directions to The Team and is the wielder of the Divine Dividing.
  • Mana Drain: Divine Dividing (Also known as White Dragon Emperor's Light Wings) can halve the power of anything or anyone and adds the halved power to the user.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Vali is the name of the god of revenge in Norse Mythology and Odin's second son after Baldr (with a different mother, in his case, a giantess), conceived for the sole purpose of avenging his half-brother. Considering that his mother was not a devil, Odin eventually adopted him after his pardon, and he went out for vengeance against Rizevim, this is very fitting.
    • It is also a name of a Hindu deity, a son of Indra who was fearless in battle and had the boon to halve his opponents' strength, but later killed by Rama due to a misunderstanding. This is reflected in his battle maniac personality and his Sacred Gear ability.
  • Mentor Archetype: He becomes a mentor to Issei's children in the future, in particular Ex, Issei's son with Rias.
  • Mutual Envy: While Issei was originally envious of Vali's strength and power, it is later noted that Vali is envious of Issei due to him having a loving family, unlike his own father.
  • Not So Above It All: For all of his confoundment at Issei's obsession with breasts, Vali does admit to possessing a fondness for women's waist and hipline, which leads Odin to call him and Albion the "Butt Dragon Emperor."
  • Not So Stoic: While he usually acts rather aloof, once Lavinia comes into the picture, Vali starts acting completely different.
  • Parental Substitute: In the same case with Kiba. Azazel served as his father figure.
  • The Plan: He helped out the Kuoh group with Loki in order to take Fenrir. While the group only needed the wolf's teeth, Vali Took a Third Option.
  • Privileged Rival: He's descended from the old Lucifer and is thus extremely magically talented. This contrasts with Issei's lack of talent in magic and his normal background. Vali later starts to see it as the other way around, as the one thing Issei has that he doesn't is a loving, albeit ordinary family.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Later on, he becomes the blue to Issei's red when they become allies. Vali's calm demeanor offsets Issei's Hot-Blooded personality.
  • The Rival: He views Issei as his rival, given that they have dragons as part of their Sacred Gear.
  • Rivals Team Up: He and Issei teamed up to fight Loki in volume 7.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Rizevim tricked Vali's father, Razevan, into thinking that the latter's a monster, Vali leaves his family behind and is adopted by Azazel.
  • Ship Tease: While most of the characters in-universe and Ishibumi himself consider their current relationship to be in the Like Brother and Sister territory, Vali has lots of it with Lavinia even though he doesn't want to admit it himself. Let's see here: Getting an Affectionate Nickname from her? Check. Managed to achieve his first Balance Breaker in order to release her from their enemy's Mind Control, then getting thanked from her afterwards while blushing from hearing it? Check. Becomes Not So Stoic every time she appears to the point of getting hold of his embarassing secrets and later showed it to Issei (to the point of sending hired thugs to retrieve it in the past)? Ho yes. To top the icing of the cake, Slash/Dog current illustrator Kikurage drew an illustration of Lavinia carrying what appears to be an Albion avatar that is shown to be sticking around to Vali throughout the novel.
    • He also got another one with Genbu, though initially this one is shown to be more of a Puppy Love. Genbu appears later on in DxD, all grown up, still swooning over Vali. Though she questioned a bit about his change of demeanor.
  • Shrink Ray: Divine Dividing has a technique called Half Dimension which can make objects and people become half their size. Empireo Juggernaut Overdrive has a more powerful version in Compression Divider, which continues halving the target into non-existence.
  • Smug Super: Even more so than Akeno, though he does treat his rivals with respect if he thinks they deserve it.
  • Strong and Skilled: It is noted that Vali is both a strong and skilled fighter, due to being mentored by Azazel for a long period of time.
  • Super Power Lottery: Won it big. Not only does he wield Divine Dividing, which can halve an opponent's power and add it to his own, but he also inherited the original Lucifer's massive reserves of magical energy, plus he has enough talent to learn most spells by just reading about them. Azazel muses that his existence sounds like a joke; Vali prefers the word "miracle".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He's as obsessed with ramen as he is with fighting.
  • Trauma Button: The mere sight of Rizevim Livan Lucifer is enough to make him royally pissed, given that he was subjected to Rizevim's abuse years ago.
  • Underestimating Badassery: He makes the mistake of underestimating Issei's strength in volume 4. Four guesses what happens next.
  • Villains Out Shopping: He and Bikou encounter Issei, warn him about Diodora, and then went to the ramen shop.
  • Warrior Prince: Downplayed but later played straight. Technically, he was a Prince in the Devil world, being a descendant of the original Lucifer. However, he threw it all away after all he had been through (not to mention his human heritage). He only got this title back after being ascended as an Ultimate-Class Devil and became the sole contender to the title of Lucifer for getting acknowledged as a hero of the Underworld alongside Issei, political, and military reasons.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Couldn't use Juggernaut Drive against Cao Cao because he was poisoned by an arrow coated with Samael's blood.
  • Worthy Opponent: He really sees Issei as this after the end of Volume 4.
  • Would Hit a Girl: In volume 4, he threatens to kill Issei's parents and, according to Azazel, halve the size of his harem's breasts.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Played for Laughs. He is shown to be slightly scared of Lavinia Reni, a Magician who he views as a foster sister due to the fact that he doesn't know how to deal with her and her personality. Many characters have noted that Vali loses his calm and composed aura when she is around. The fact that she has two books filled with Chuunibyou material that he wrote down when he was younger doesn't help the matter.

    Kuroka Toujou

Kuroka Toujou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ec4a05cc13f75184d52a82d0e23d1377.png
Species: Nekomata / Reincarnted Devil
Voiced by: Minami Takahashi (Japanese) and "Sasha Jakes" (English)

Koneko/Shirone's older sister, Kuroka is one of the most dangerous stray devils after killing her master.

  • Babies Ever After: In the future she has a daughter with Issei, named Kurobara.
  • Big Eater: One of the few traits that she shares with Koneko is a large appetite.
  • The Big Girl: She's one of the tallest members of the Vali Team and provides backup to her allies.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She is very protective of Koneko.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She has the third largest bust size in the series behind Akeno and Rias, as well as a Shameless Fanservice Girl and The Tease towards Issei who wastes no time praising her beauty.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Koneko's Abel. Subverted Trope later on, with the revelation that Kuroka had a very good reason to kill her and Koneko's master, even if it caused a rift between them, and still genuinely cares for Koneko.
  • Cat Girl: She doesn't bother to hide her ears, plus her Verbal Tic is "Nyan".
  • Characterization Marches On: Given the later revelation that her supposedly going berserk and killing her master was actually done to protect Koneko, it’s rather odd how callously she attempted to kill said sister along with her friends in her debut. Her attitude toward Issei also quickly changes from hostility to "the next best sex partner after Vali".
  • Cool Big Sis: She still cares a lot about her sister. Not that she'll ever admit it.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She wears a black kimono and is one of Issei's harem girls.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her and Koneko's master was conducting experiments to make his team and his blood relatives stronger. When he turned to both of them, Kuroka's sisterly instincts kicked in and she killed him.
  • Full-Contact Magic: Her Sage magic gives her access to poison, gasses, and illusions, but when it comes time to do some damage Kuroka puts her body into it.
  • Gamer Chick: She plays Issei's video games more than Issei himself (partly because he has to go to school).
  • Going Commando: She reveals that she wears absolutely nothing under her kimono as she takes it off and dives into the Hyoudou residence swimming pool, naked. It's also made as clear as possible on the cover of Volume 24. In DX.5 she states that she's a part of the "No-Bra Faction." Subverted in the manga where we see she has underwear on.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Her mother was a nekomata, while her father was a human. However, nekomata offspring with humans are still full-blooded nekomata.
  • Hurricane of Puns: Depending on the translator, English sources sometimes replace her Verbal Tic with lacing her dialog with cat puns.
  • Impossibly-Low Neckline: She wears a kimono that exposes her shoulders and the upper part of her breasts.
  • Kimono Fanservice: Of the Going Commando kind.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: She will do anything to protect her sister. Even kill her master because he wanted to conduct experiments on Koneko.
  • Leg Focus: Thanks to the open slit in her kimono and status as The Tease, she gets many camera-shots that highlight her legs.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The dark to Le Fay and Koneko's light.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name means "Black Song", referring to her hair color.
  • Meaningful Rename: In Volume 24, she takes on the surname Toujou like her younger sister.
  • Ms. Fanservice: In a series full of them, she still deserves props for establishing herself as one of biggest among them during the first episode of the third season of the anime, where she had a whole 30 seconds of screen time.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her father never even recognized her or Shirone as his daughters, and her mother simply abandoned the both of them to follow after their father to help with his "research" and to be his Lust Object.
  • Pretty Freeloader: She lives in the Hyodo Residence with the condition that she helps train Koneko but other than that she doesn't help with housework, takes other people's food and sneaks into Issei's room to play on his game consoles. When Issei ask her to help she says he can use her body as payment.
  • Sexy Cat Person: She is a nekomata, and unlike her sister Koneko has a very voluptuous body, having the third largest breasts behind Akeno and Rias, which she has no qualms showing off.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: Her kimono has a high slit which exposes most of her legs.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She does not hesitate to expose herself around Issei, even knowing exactly how it affects him, and his intentions.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: She and her sister Koneko are near total opposites in personality. Their hair colors are also the exact opposite colors.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: While she initially merely wanted to mate with Issei for the sake of having strong children, she later falls in love with him due to him being kind to her and offering to help her reconcile with her sister. She later accepts his proposal and becomes one of his brides.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: She is a Nekomata with yellow eyes, just like her sister Koneko.
  • Taking the Bullet: She took Vali's blast which got reflected by Cao Cao going towards Koneko.
  • The Tease: She often teases Issei every once in a while just to see her sister's reaction.
  • Twin Threesome Fantasy: She has frequently offered to sleep with Issei along with Koneko at the same time, and it's heavily implied that she would eventually succeed as her and Koneko's respective daughters (Kurobara and Shirayuki) were born on the same day.
  • Underestimating Badassery: While fighting with Issei, she questions just how he could have defeated Vali. However, after Issei properly attains his Balance Breaker, she's understandably shocked to discover that his armor no sells her attacks.
  • Vapor Wear: She is wearing a kimono with no undergarments on her.
  • Verbal Tic: She ends her sentences with "nyan".
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: Downplayed as she isn't really evil, Kuroka has shown interest in having Issei impregnate her due to him being the Red Dragon Emperor.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Her relationship with Bikou.
  • Women Prefer Strong Men: She has stated a desire to mate with and be impregnated by a Heavenly Dragon host. She first propositioned Vali, which he turned down. After that, she shifts her focus to Issei, who is much more receptive.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: While she is usually haughty and disrespective to most of the supernatural VIPs that she deals with, she is shown to be frightened by the likes of Nurarihyon, the Eastern Youkai faction leader and Magari, the Nekomata elder.

    Bikou

Bikou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bikou_2.jpg
Species: Monkey/Human Hybrid
Voiced by: Makoto Yasumura (Japanese) and David Trosko (English)

A descendant of Son Wukong, he first appears in Volume 4 of the novels, picking up Vali who was about to release Juggernaut Mode against Issei.

  • Bishōnen: His human form in one of the short stories is quite the looker. Just look.
  • Blood Knight: His reaction to seeing Tannin is to laugh and attack him.
  • The Lancer: He serves as Vali's second-in-command and is the most powerful member after him.
  • Meaningful Name: His name means "Beautiful Monkey". Given his human form in one of the short stories, it's pretty much justified.
  • Monkey King Lite: He is a descendant of Son Wukong himself and the current Monkey King. Like his ancestor, he has a flippant and playful personality, likes to joke around, is obsessed with battles and uses a Telescoping Staff as his weapon.
  • The Nicknamer: He's the one who gave Rias and Issei the nicknames "Switch Princess" and "Oppai Dragon", respectively.
  • Shapeshifter: Can assume human form. One side story involves him transforming into Rias to play the part of "Switch Princess" in the Vali Team's reenactment of the Oppai Dragon show, much to the real Rias' frustration.
  • Telescoping Staff: Well, he is using Son Wukong's staff after all.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves eating ramen so much that the Vali team will defeat to cup noodles if Le Fay isn't around to cook.
  • Villains Out Shopping: He and Vali encounter Issei out in the night, congratulate him, see Mil-tan who they think is a nekomata, and go eat at a ramen shop.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: His relationship with Kuroka.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He is terrified of his ancestor, the original Sun Wukong due to his strength and the fact that Wukong always subjects him to Training from Hell whenever they train together.

    Arthur Pendragon

Arthur Pendragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arthur_pendragon_loki_fight2.jpg
Species: Human
Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa (Japanese) and J. Michael Tatum (English)

Arthur is the same-named descendant of the legendary British warlord and wielder of the strongest piece of Excalibur, as well as Collbrande (Caliburn), the sword in the stone.

  • Badass Boast
"By this Holy King Sword Collbrande, be it Fenrir's blood or dimensional space, all will be cut!"
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He wears a suit and can still kick ass.
  • Badass Normal: He is a normal human, with only a special weapon in the form of Caliburn. Despite that, he is still capable of keeping up with his teammates, who are all strong supernatural creatures in their own right. In fact, he is considered as one of the "Strongest Humans".
  • Big Brother Instinct: He is quite protective of Le Fay and wishes that she would return home to have a normal life or at very least stay somewhere she can have a similar life compared to home such as Issei's.
  • Cool Sword: He possesses the strongest piece of Excalibur as well as Caliburn.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: His rematch against Strada, who was rejuvenated to his prime. While Arthur was unable to defeat him, it is noted that he lasted far longer then his teammates who tried to attack Strada in numbers.
  • Engagement Challenge: Sort of. As it turns out, part of the reason of his entire shenanigans with the Vali team is for the safety of his household maid and Le Fay's mentor, Elaine Westcott (who happens to be a direct descendant of one of the Order of Golden Dawn founder, William Westcott ) from his father. The challenge part is basically Arthur proving to his old man that he doesn't care of Elaine's status if he wants to make her his bethrothed, as well as hunting the possessor of the new Longinus Alphacca Tyrant, who created a big stir amongst the setting's British Royal Family.
  • Master Swordsman: He's tied with Siegfried as the strongest swordsmen within the Khaos Brigade. He also fought Strada to a draw until the latter was called to help his subordinates (Arthur almost lost because of Strada's raw power).
  • Named Weapons: The Holy King Sword Caliburn, the original Sword in the Stone.
  • Shipper on Deck: He ships Issei with Le Fay ever since her Magician's contract with him.
  • Sibling Team: He fights along with Le Fay.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Despite Arthur being stated to be a Chick Magnet and a very popular groom candidate, he is shown to only love Elaine Westcott, the maid of the Pendragon family.
  • The Smart Guy: He serves as The Strategist who is capable of concocting plans for Vali's team.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Not his name but his sword either Collbrande or Caliburn.
  • Worthy Opponent: To him, Kiba is what Issei is to Vali.

Species: Direwolf
A direwolf created by and serving Loki, he is captured by Vali's team in Volume 5. Pre-Nerf one of the Top 10 Strongest Beings in the World, tied with Typhon.
  • Canis Major: He was introduced as a giant wolf standing at about 10 meter tall.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While he can't talk, his narration in his POV reveals that he's also a snarky fellow.
  • The Dreaded: His fangs are notorious for having the capacity to kill Gods, and the Occult Research Club are pretty much paralyzed in fear when they first see him.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: As mentioned in the brief description above, Vali beat him.
  • Kill the God: Regardless of power Fenrir's fangs are capable of this and is the reason why Vali wanted him for his team.
  • The Juggernaut: He is noted to be exceptionally durable, being able to withstand attacks from the likes of Tannin and the current Heavenly Dragon wielders with barely any injures.
  • Nerf: Fenrir loses most of his power after joining Vali's team causing him to lose his place in the Top 10 Strongest Beings in the World.
  • Red Baron: God-Devouring Wolf. Also a case of Names to Run Away from Really Fast.
  • Sleep-Mode Size: After joining Vali's team, Fenrir's size was drastically decreased, corresponding to much of his power getting sealed away.
  • Switching P.O.V.: To the surprise of many.
  • Team Pet: Fenrir becomes this after he is defeated by Vali and Arthur.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: The only god Fenrir fears is the Norse God Víðarr. In Norse mythology, Fenrir is killed by him to avenge his father Odin.
