Police and Security Guards

Appears in: Breaking the Bank, Escaping the Prison, Stealing the Diamond

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/other_guards_7.png
Left to right, top to bottom: Chad Hansen (bank employee), Str8 Shoota and Carlos Burdt (policemen), Richard Wilkins, Billy Clud and Sam Turner (museum nightguards), Franz Pferd, Karl Pinkerton and Gnewt Stoneheel (Wall guards)
Other lawful individuals standing between Henry and his latest objective, and the main antagonistic force of the first three games: bank employees, policemen on duty as prison guards, and museum nightguards; respectively.

    open/close all folders

    In General
  • Hero Antagonist: All the guards are just doing their jobs and the only reason why they're antagonists is because they're in Henry's way.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: They are merely background characters who are only doing their jobs which involve stopping Henry either from trying to break out of prison or stealing the Tunisian diamond.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Some guards carry shotguns; Captain Geoffrey Custard and Tom Hardly being notable examples.

    Ted McAdams

Ted McAdams

Appears in: Breaking the Bank, Stealing the Diamond

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ted_mcadams_2_7.png
"Huh? How did we lose one?"
Click for his appearance later as a Security Guard
Driver of the bank truck, and partner of Winston Davis. He quits his job and becomes a security guard at the museum after a "certain incident".
  • Butt-Monkey: At least for Ted McAdams, there's no escaping a job where he encounters Henry Stickmin.
  • The Cameo: Ted makes a quick cameo as a picture in the intro, when Captain Galeforce goes over the military scripts and evidence with a page with him reporting about the attempted bank robbery by Henry.
  • Continuity Nod: Ted McAdams mentions the events of either Bank when Henry was arrested for breaking into the titular bank, or the Lawyered Up ending of Prison when Winston was framed for kidnapping Henry and presumably arrested off screen.
  • The Driver: Throughout his partnership with Winston, Ted always drove the van because the former prefers looking out the window.
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction to seeing Henry speeding past with the diamond in Intruder on a Scooter.
  • Take This Job and Shove It: After his partner Winston got arrested, Ted decided to call it quits and find a new job as a night guard because he thought it'd be safer.
  • Tempting Fate: In Diamond, he's talking to new recruit Jacob Rose about what happened to Winston and how he decided to find a new safer job as a security guard. Cue Henry speeding by them with the diamond in Intruder on a Scooter route.
  • Those Two Guys: With Winston Davis in Bank. Averted in future games due to Davis being arrested and Ted changing jobs.
  • Unwitting Pawn: For Henry in Bank as he agrees with Winston to put the bag Henry was hiding in with the others just to be safe.

    Winston Davis

Winston Davis

Appears in: Breaking the Bank, Escaping the Prison, Infiltrating the Airship

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/winston_davis_1.png
"I think we should throw it in the back, just to be safe?"
Click for his appearance later as a member of the Toppat Clan
Truck driver of the bank truck, and partner of Ted McAdams. After losing his job because of numerous investigations following the events of Bank, he joins the Toppat Clan.
  • Cardboard Prison: The Lawyered Up route ends with him (wrongfully) accused of trying to kill Henry and hide the body in the bank. However, he can be seen in Airship as a Toppat member in the Government route during the meeting, meaning that he likely escaped somehow.
  • Cassandra Truth: He really didn't know Henry was in the bag when they loaded it up, but nobody in the court believes him.
  • Death Glare: During his appearance in Airship, he's looking pointedly at Henry (who's disguised as Toppat member), possibly because he recognized him.
  • Face–Heel Turn: He briefly appears in Airship among a group of Toppats that Henry has to sneak past.
  • Foil: To Dave Panpa. Both started the series working in law enforcement, but due to Henry, lost their jobs; Dave was fired due to negligence for not checking Henry's package before delivering it, while Winston was fired after getting framed for attempting to kill Henry as a cover-up of the latter's attempted bank robbery, and both of their ultimate fates involve the Toppat Clan; Dave somehow ended up imprisoned in their brig while Winston joined them after being branded a criminal.
  • Frame-Up: In the Lame/Legal/Lawyered Up Ending for Prison, Winston Davis is framed for trying to kidnap Henry by placing him in a bank bag, since Henry apparently couldn't have tied the bag from the inside.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Trying to make sure they didn't lose a money bag cost him his job got him arrested.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: After being framed for kidnapping Henry and losing his job, he decides to join the Toppat clan.
  • Those Two Guys: With Ted McAdams in Bank. Averted in future games due to Ted changing jobs and Davis being arrested then joining the Toppats.
  • Unwitting Pawn: For Henry in Bank, as he was the one who told Ted to load in the bag Henry was hiding in just to be safe.

    Dave Panpa

Dave Panpa

Appears In: Escaping the Prison, Stealing the Diamond, Infiltrating the Airship, Completing the Mission

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cfee4e06_3ff7_4afb_9668_5576c56cd8f6.png
Click for his appearance back as a Policeman
A hapless police officer/security guard who always seems to encounter Henry. He's had plenty of different jobs due to a combination of his incompetence and Henry always showing up.
  • Agony of the Feet: Gets an empty bombshell thrown onto his foot in one of the early FAILs of the Epic route of Diamond.
  • Ascended Extra: Downplayed, but he does get a significant spotlight in the only path of Mission he appears in.
  • Butt-Monkey: Poor Dave just can't catch a break whenever he encounters Henry Stickmin. To top it all off, he somehow ended up in Toppats' cell for unknown reasons.
  • Continuity Nod: Talks about Henry Stickmin's escape from Prison to Kurt Dietch in Diamond; in this case how Henry used whatever item was in the cake to escape. Kurt isn't interested, however.
  • Dare to Be Badass: Tries to take out Floyd Winters when Henry asks him in Mission, however Floyd easily overpowers him.
Dave: C'mon, Dave, you got this...
  • Face–Heel Turn: Downplayed. He joins Henry's Toppat splinter faction in Toppat Civil Warfare, but he looks rather reluctant about it and the circumstances indicate he had to do so to ensure his own safety.
  • Failed a Spot Check: In Prison, Dave fails to search the cake properly, and Henry uses one of three items hidden in the cake to escape. Unsurprisingly, he loses his job for this.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Downplayed. While he does tag along with Henry for the majority of the Toppat Civil Warfare route, you can pick Dave to help Henry take down the guard who holds the key of his loyalists' cells and that's the only choice you can get from him.
  • Irony: Dave used to be a policeman who imprisoned Henry to his cell back in Prison. At some point before the events of Airship, he was later jailed in a Toppat cell while Henry roams free.
  • It May Help You on Your Quest: If Henry frees Dave from his cell in Airship, he will drop a flash drive containing the passcode for the room containing Biggoron/Biggol's Sword.
  • Motor Mouth: Subverted. While in Diamond, he tries speaking to Kurt Dietrich about how he got fired after Prison and explains he was just trying to have a conversation with him, he doesn't speak extremely fast. This winds up in a FAIL if Henry stops to listen, because when Dave mentions that there's a draft, Kurt realizes that Henry's there, and pulls a gun on him.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: While Dave does joins Henry's faction of the Toppat clan in Toppat Civil Warfare route, he just so happen to be there and doesn't have any personal stake in the resolution like Henry, Thomas, and Geoffrey.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Failing to check the package delivered to Henry then lying about it.
  • Noodle Incident: How exactly did he wind up in a cell on the Toppat Clan's ship? Not even the bios for him in the Collection reveal why.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Dave doesn't get much screentime and overall just a minor recurring character, but his clumsiness on not checking the package lead to Henry's escape, which made the whole series happen.
  • Static Stun Gun: Carries one in Prison and will use it on Henry should he forget to defend himself. Dave tases himself after Henry knocks him down.
  • Those Two Guys: Is this with Rupert Price (the other policeman in the intro) in Escaping the Prison. This is averted in the later games following him being fired from the police.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Unintentionally to the Center for Chaos Containment, as he's the one who found, didn't check, and delivered their package to Henry.
  • Watch Out for That Tree!: Well, pillar. If Henry KO's Kurt, the other guard with him in Diamond, Dave runs into a pillar when fleeing and trying to get help.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Apart from playing a role in the Toppat Civil Warfare route in Mission, it's anyone's guess on what happened to Dave following his capture in Airship and potential escape in the Pure-Blooded Thief ending. While it is likely that he was freed in the Investigator route's aftermath, since Mission's selection screen states that the airship was impounded, it is never stated for a certainty.

    Sam Turner

Sam Turner

Appears in: Stealing The Diamond

They love the guarding aspect of the security guard work. Actually dealing with burglars... not so much.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Sam's bio card makes a point of using singular-they. Combined with their neutral name and their hair not being particularly masculine or feminine, it's assumed Sam is nonbinary.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In the Legacy version, Sam didn't have their yellow hair. It was most likely added in the remaster to distinguish them from other guards.
