    Gridman

Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa (Japanese)

Gridman Universe Fighter
Rogue Kaiser Gridman
The titular Hyper Agent who saved Tsutsuji-dai the year prior, he makes an unexpected return as Kaiju start wreaking havoc again.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Universe Fighter can combine with Dynazenon and Big Goldburn to become "Rogue Kaiser Gridman."
  • BFS: The "Dynamic Blade" is a large sword created by combining the top half of Big Goldburn with Dyna Soldier.
  • Energy Being: While he's always been one, the movie makes it a major plot point. In fact, his formlessness led straight to him unwittingly taking over the SSSS.GRIDMAN universe.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: Hanging out with humans slowly granted him the power of imagination. And as an Energy Being, it made him capable of creating entire worlds within himself, one of which is the one where DYNɅZENON takes place.
  • My Greatest Failure: He feels guilt over causing Yuta to lose roughly 2 months of his life during his possession, which was distorted by Mad Origin into a disaster.
  • Removed Achilles' Heel: In the show, Gridman couldn't use his Fixer Beam while in his Primal Fighter form since the form's armor covers up the Tri-Juster emitters on his chest. Since in this movie he takes on the Primal Fighter form because it has better compatibility with Yuta rather than as an Emergency Transformation, Gridman can now unfurl the armor on his chest to expose the Tri-Justers whenever he needs to use Fixer Beam. His new Universe Fighter form has the Tri-Justers at all times, and in fact emits a World-Healing Wave every time he damages the terrain with his attacks so that only his enemies are harmed.
  • Transformation Name Announcement: "Super Dragon King Hyperlink Combine! Rogue Kaiser Gridman!"
  • Wolverine Claws / Energy Blade: As Rogue Kaiser Gridman he can project energy blades from his fingertips for close quarters slashing.

Gridman Alliance

    Yuta Hibiki

Voiced by: Yūya Hirose (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_yuuta.png

The protagonist of GRIDMAN, he's now in his second year of high school, having been put in a different class from his friends Rikka and Utsumi.

  • Amnesiac Hero: Played with; back in SSSS.GRIDMAN, Yuta had no memory of himself because that "Yuta" is actually Gridman possessing Yuta's body. This Yuta only remembers events from before the incident. This has the side effect of which making him feel like something is missing, and he's become more uncomfortable around his friends, especially Rikka, since from his perspective the distance between them has suddenly decreased.
  • Angst? What Angst?: Despite having every reason to, Yuta doesn't hold any grudge against Gridman for effectively stealing two months of his life and leaving him without the memories of that time. Even when the latter apologizes for his actions, Yuta outright says he doesn't care he lost his memories, knowing that Gridman had no choice but to do what he did.
  • Book Dumb: He mentions that his grades suck, and part of the reason why he's no longer in the same homeroom as Rikka and Utsumi their second year is because he didn't qualify for the science track like they did.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: He is, if anything, more selflessly heroic than when possessed by Gridman, leaving poor Rikka wracked with worry for most of the action.
  • Costume Evolution: He lacks the sleeveless sweater and the armband he had in GRIDMAN.
  • Henshin Hero: He has to merge with Gridman once again to protect the world, but this time it is by his own will.
  • Hero Protagonist: While he was a Supporting Protagonist in SSSS.GRIDMAN, he is now the main focus in this movie.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: The novel adaptation reveals that poor Yuta is completely unaware that his "secret" crush on Rikka is known by just about everyone he knows, including Rikka herself. When he tells Utsumi that he intends to confess to her, Utsumi tells him he's much too late for that, mentally noting that he was there when Gridman outright told Rikka Yuta had feelings for her, and that there was no way he could tell Yuta that.
  • Official Couple: By the end of the movie, he successfully gets a Relationship Upgrade with Rikka.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: An unusual case in that while Yuta was already the protagonist of SSSS.GRIDMAN, from his perspective, Gridman Universe is his first adventure, with everyone else being much more experienced than he is. Outside of side material like audio dramas, it's actually the real Yuta's first time appearing on camera at all.

    Rikka Takarada

Voiced by: Yume Miyamoto (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_rikka.png

Yuta's former classmate and the subject of his affections.

  • Anger Born of Worry: At several parts of the movie, she's shown being very unhappy at Yuta having to become Gridman again, with Utsumi specifically noting she's especially worried he'll get hurt again (since in the final few episodes of SSSS.GRIDMAN he wound up getting stabbed) or that he'll lose his memories again.
  • Costume Evolution: Her new outfit trades the white shirt for a black one, the new sweater doesn't have sleeves, and the socks are longer.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen:
    • Compared to how she was in SSSS.GRIDMAN, she's much less worried about how people view her, especially in regards to her closeness to Yuta. Compared to the first few episodes of the series where she asks Yuta to keep some distance from her, in the movie she has no problems asking Namiko and Hass to go on ahead so she can check on Yuta after he is smacked in the face by a volleyball.
    • At the end of the movie, she admits being kind of grateful that Yuta took so long to work up the guts to confess to her, because it gave her time to get to know him (as in the "real" him) and develop feelings for him too.
  • Fond Memories That Could Have Been: In a fashion. When she and Yuta are tasked with getting ice cream for the group working on the school festival, she decides she's feeling peckish and so buys a doughnut. As she and Yuta walk back to school munching on their doughnuts, she brings up how they'd eaten doughnuts together in the past note . Yuta points out that if that happened during the two months he was possessed by Gridman, he'd have no recollection of it.
  • Here We Go Again!: Her response when she realises the Neon Genesis Junior High students will be staying at her house for the foreseeable future while they're trying to figure out what's happening. When Yomogi and the DYNɅZENON team likewise have to stay over, she just rolls with it.
  • Official Couple: She gets together with Yuta at the end of the movie.
  • Relative Error: Rumors have spread of Rikka dating someone in college due to her being seen with such a boy, unaware that the person in question is just her big brother.

    Sho Utsumi

Voiced by: Soma Saito (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_utsumi.png

Yuta's friend and a huge fan of the Ultra Series, he and Rikka are now in the science department.

  • Costume Evolution: He trades in his white overshirt for a green one, and the undershirt is different.
  • Exact Words: He tells Yuta that he's a bit late to confess his feelings to Rikka. Yuta takes this to mean he thinks he's missed his opportunity, but Utsumi, according to the novelization, was also referring to the fact that Rikka already knows due to Gridman revealing it to her (unbeknownst to Yuta).
  • Secret-Keeper: Thanks to the ending of SSSS.GRIDMAN, he's aware that Rikka knows Yuta has feelings for her, but he naturally hasn't brought that up with Yuta himself. In addition, thanks to him being in a relationship with Hass, he's also aware of Rikka's growing feelings for Yuta, but also keeps that to himself (especially since no one knows he and Hass are an item).
  • Secret Relationship: He and Hass have become an item, but they haven't informed their friends of this.

Gauma Team

    Yomogi Asanaka

Voiced by: Jun'ya Enoki (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_yomogi.png

The protagonist of DYNɅZENON, he and his former comrades find themselves trapped in Yuta's world.

  • The Beastmaster: Yomogi retains the ability to perform Instance Domination. While his control has improved from DYNɅZENON, it's still clearly much more physically taxing for him than it was for the Kaiju Eugenicists, as he's barely able to stand by the time he's done controlling a Noirdogma to fight the others long enough for help to appear.
  • Beta Couple: He and Yume are an Official Couple right from the start, contrasting Yuta and Rikka. They continue to be this during the voice dramas where they help give Yuta and Rikka relationship advice.
  • Costume Evolution: He replaced his hoodie for a short-sleeve blue shirt with a zipper.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Anti notes that Yomogi's aptitude for controlling kaiju also gives him a certain degree of resistance to their powers, which makes him able to persist when the rest of the DYNɅZENON characters temporarily disappear.
  • Romantic Wingman: He tries to help Yuta get together with Rikka.

    Yume Minami

Voiced by: Shion Wakayama (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_yume.png

Yomogi's girlfriend and another former Dynazenon pilot.

  • Beta Couple: She and Yomogi are already dating at the start of the movie, contrasting Yuta and Rikka. They continue to be this during the voice dramas where they help give Yuta and Rikka relationship advice.
  • Costume Evolution: She traded in the sweater for a pink shirt with a tie, and she's not wearing tights underneath her skirt.
  • The Gadfly: In post-movie appearances, she clearly gets a kick out of teasing Rikka and Yuta, such as urging them to kiss and make up in the first voice drama (emphasis on the "kiss" part) or in an advert for headphones with character voices where she jokingly tells Rikka to give Yuta a set because they both know he'd totally use Rikka's voice 24-7 and may not even take them off.
  • Luminescent Blush: Her face, especially her cheeks, go completely red when she realized what is hidden behind when Yomogi asks her if she wants to eat dinner especially the gift crab from Rex with him and his family. Since Rex gives it as a thank you gift to Yomogi's family for taking care of him and tell Yomogi to eat it with his "family".
  • Shipper on Deck: She's very invested in Rikka and Yuta's romance.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Having opened up thanks to her experience with the Gauma Team, she's become a much happier person than she was before the events of DYNɅZENON.

    Koyomi Yamanaka

Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_koyomi.png

A former NEET who piloted Dynazenon alongside Yomogi and Yume.

  • Ambiguous Situation: He mentions that he's currently looking for a job, but it's never explained what happened to the job he got at the end of DYNɅZENON.
  • Costume Evolution: He's wearing a brown long-sleeve shirt instead of a green jersey, his sweatpants are gray instead of brown, and his shoes aren't sandals this time.
  • Out of Focus: Unfortunately, most of the movie revolves around preparing for a high school festival that he's way too old to participate in, so he gets noticeably less screentime than the rest of the main cast.

    Chise Asukagawa

Voiced by: Chika Anzai (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_chise.png

Koyomi's middle school-aged cousin and the only member of the Gauma Team who didn't pilot Dynazenon.

  • Combining Mecha: Aside from normal Powered Zenon, they can combine themself into Powered Knight Zenon.
  • Palette Swap: When combined as Powered Knight Zenon, the body is now purple instead of grey, while the Powered Axe goes from yellow to red and gains a slightly spikier appearance.

    Newest Member

Rex

Voiced by: Daiki Hamano (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rex_pic.jpg
Dynazenon

The latest member from the Neon Genesis Junior High Students who joined in Gridman's fight. His battle mode is Dyna Rex, which can transform into Dynazenon.

For information about him in his previous anime appearance, see Gauma.

  • Badass in a Nice Suit: As a member of the Neon Genesis Junior High Students, he wears a nice-looking black suit in his human form.
  • But Now I Must Go: At the end of the movie, he once again leaves his friends behind to depart with Gridman and the other Students. But since last time he Never Got to Say Goodbye as he died mid-battle, he gets to have a proper moment with the rest of Team Gauma and leaves on much happier terms.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: "Access Code: Dyna Rex!"
  • Came Back Strong: After dying at the end of DYNɅZENON, he was brought back as Dyna Rex itself rather than merely its pilot, essentially becoming a true Assist Weapon like the other students.
  • Cool Shades: He wears sunglasses with red lenses.
  • Transforming Mecha: Taking in the rest of the Gauma Team to pilot him allows him to transform from Dynarex to Dynazenon.

Other Characters

    Hass & Namiko

Hass voiced by: Akari Kitou (Japanese)

Namiko voiced by: Suzuko Mimori (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hass_visual.png
Hass
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/namiko_visual.png
Namiko

Rikka's two close friends who love to tease her.

  • Alone Among the Couples: By the end of the movie, Namiko is the only member of her friend group to not have a boyfriend. Of course, like everyone else she's unaware that Hass even has a boyfriend.
  • Costume Evolution:
    • Hass now wears a long-sleeve cyan shirt underneath a white t-shirt, she's wearing tennis shoes, and her socks are green instead of white, and
    • Namiko doesn't have a red jacket tied around her waist anymore.
  • Secret Relationship: Hass is dating Utsumi now, but the info isn't public.
  • Skewed Priorities: Despite exams coming up, Hass notes to Utsumi that she's much too busy doing more important things like influencer stuff.

    College Student

College Student

Voiced by: Leo Kaminaga (Japanese)

Rikka's rumored "boyfriend in college" whom she regularly visits and spends time with at his place.

  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: When the Neon Genesis Junior High students have dinner at Rikka's place, Rikka's mother off-handedly mentions that they have plenty of space since Rikka's older brother's room is empty.
  • Relative Error: Contrary to the rumors, he's actually just Rikka's older brother.
  • Unseen No More: He was mentioned in an audio drama before, but this is his first onscreen appearance.

    Crab Seller (SPOILER CHARACTER)

Princess

Voiced by: Maaya Uchida (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1680330336706538.jpg

A woman who sells crabs at the market, she's revealed to be the reincarnation of the princess from Rex/Gauma's past.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She is incredibly quirky and dresses in her traditional dress rather than anything more contemporary. She still is incredibly wise and gives Gauma solid life advice and seems to be a competent crab seller as well.
  • Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer: Much like Gauma, the princess has adapted extraordinarily well to the modern setting in spite of her quirky conduct.
  • Unseen No More: While she did appear as the princess during Episode 10 of DYNɅZENON, it was hard to make out her facial features. This marks the closest time that the audience gets to see what she looks like.

    The Ghost # 1

Gridknight / "Knight"

Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_knight.png
Full Power Gridknight

A serious man with the power to transform into "Gridknight," he had previously battled Kaiju alongside the Gauma Team.

  • All Your Powers Combined: Aside from Kaiser Gridknight, he can combine with the Assist Weapons into Full Power Gridknight.
  • Alternate Self: The movie reveals that he was never the same Anti from GRIDMAN, but rather a copy with the same memories and powers. However, after he merges his memories with Anti, they became a single entity.

    The Ghost # 2

"The 2nd"

Voiced by: Karin Takahashi (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_the_2nd.png
Soundras Battle Mode

A friendly woman partnered with Knight to form the "Gridknight Alliance," she is also aquatinted with the Gauma Team.

  • Alternate Self: Like Knight, she's revealed to have always been a copy of the Kaiju Girl from GRIDMAN, but they later merge their memories and become a single entity.
  • Cool Ship: She is now the owner of a ship that can travel across dimensions. It also transforms into her Powered Armor.
  • Sizeshifter: While SSSS.GRIDMAN showed that the 2nd could grow in size to some degree, here she demonstrates the ability to grow to full-fledged kaiju size. Since she's still essentially just a giant human rather than having her father's physical attributes, she wears a suit of Powered Armor that gives her the appearance and abilities of the original Anosillus.

    SPOILER DUO

Anti and Kaiju Girl

Anti voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura (Japanese)

Kaiju Girl voiced by: Karin Takahashi (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gridman_universe_anti_and_kaiju_girl.jpg
Kaiju Girl and Anti respectively

A pair of Kaiju with the appearances of human children, they both have ties to the Gridman Alliance. Like Knight, Anti can also transform into Gridknight.

  • Break Out the Museum Piece: When facing the Noirdogma horde, Anti swaps from Gridknight to his old kaiju form, since his kaiju form has one advantage that Gridknight doesn't: the ability to fly that he copied from Sky Gridman.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Anti wears a red eye patch on his right eye.
  • Fusion Dance: During the movie's climax, they merge with their DYNɅZENON counterparts, allowing them to gain the memories and adult appearances of the latter pair.
  • Moment Killer: When Rikka and Yuta were bringing ice cream back for everyone, Yuta tried to confess to Rikka. However, he was distracted by Anti trying to break through the dimensional barrier and accidentally caused Rikka to tumble off a swing, leading to the moment being lost.

    The Helper (SPOILER CHARACTER)

Akane Shinjo

Voiced by: Reina Ueda (Japanese)

Portrayed by: Coco Tsukimori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_7370.jpeg
Akane Shinjo New Order

The "god" who created Yuta's world, she had to leave and return to her old life.

  • A God I Am Not: After all the development she got, she's started to reject the title of god, instead simply referring to the others as her friends rather than her creations.
  • The Beastmaster: She has the power of Instance Domination, which uses to control Alexis. And if GRIDMAN and DYNɅZENON director Akira Amamiya is to be believed, she could always do this; she just chose not to use it as it goes against her belief of letting Kaiju rampage at their own leisure.
  • The Bus Came Back: After vanishing from the world that she created at the end of GRIDMAN, she comes back to help her friends.
  • Cleavage Window: Her "New Order" costume has an opening in the chest area.
  • Costume Evolution: Her avatar is now wearing a costume based on the uniforms worn by the Kaiju Eugenicists.
  • Divine Intervention: As far as Yuta's universe is concerned, she's basically God. She intervenes to help save Gridman and then uses Instance Domination to take control of Alexis to help fight directly. Then during the actual Final Battle, she upgrades Goldburn into Big Goldburn midbattle.
  • Fanservice Pack: Her avatar's new look makes her an even more blatant Ms. Fanservice than she was during GRIDMAN: her chest looks even bigger than before, and the "New Order" costume does a better job of showing off her overall figure.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After spending almost the entirety of GRIDMAN as a villain, she gets to be a full-on hero here.
  • The Only Believer: According to Director Akira Amamiya, Akane is "the only true Kaiju Eugenicist," as she just wants them to rampage freely, while the Eugenicists from DYNɅZENON saw Kaiju as a means for their own freedom.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Akane has grown quite a bit since last time we saw her. Even back in the real world, she's shown using her free time to clean up trash with her friends, a far cry from the misanthropic Hikkikomori she was back in GRIDMAN.

    The Collaborator (SPOILER CHARACTER)

Alexis Kerib

Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_7369.jpeg
Alexis Kerib New Order

The former Big Bad of GRIDMAN and an immortal being who manipulated Akane into creating Kaiju to satisfy his boredom.

  • Art Initiates Life: As always, he can use Instance Abreaction to bring other people's creations to life; but this time, instead of kaiju, he uses it to summon the Dynazenon cast back to the "main" universe after Gridman is freed and splits them up.
  • Disney Death: Alexis seemingly perishes for good in the process of defeating Mad Origin, but the rest of the cast immediately note that he's a Consummate Liar and almost certainly simply took the opportunity to escape.
  • Enemy Mine: Even though forced by Akane, he was happy to join the heroes in the final fight against Mad Origin.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Even though he had to die, he was glad to be freed from boredom.
  • Heel–Face Brainwashing: Akane uses Instance Domination to take him over and basically pilot him like a mecha. Alexis isn't too upset about it, however, as he was extremely bored being Sealed Evil in a Can.
  • Redemption Equals Death: His immortal power was used to its limit while merging with Mad Origin, with his body gradually collapsing and disappearing after being freed. All this happens as he finally comes to appreciate finite life.

Kaiju

    Dimorgan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fsxxjzcayae71qy.jpeg

The first Kaiju in the movie, it is fought by Gridman and Dyna Rex.

  • Combat Tentacles: Its main method of attack is through whip-like energy tentacles emitted from the four prongs on its back.
  • Evil Knockoff: It's a heavily corrupted copy of Gridman in his Initial Fighter form, and has its own variations on Grid Beam and Grid Light Saber in the form of its Combat Tentacles.
  • Significant Anagram: Like the other kaiju in the movie, its name is a rough anagram of Gridman himself.

    Domgiran
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fsxxlk_aqaaoeng.jpeg

The second Kaiju in the movie, it is fought by Full Power Gridman and Kaiser Gridknight.

  • Evil Knockoff: It's a heavily corrupted copy of Primal Fighter Gridman, with its Hand Blast being based on Max Grid Beam.
  • Hand Blast: It can fire a beam by putting its hands together.
  • Significant Anagram: Like the other kaiju in the movie, its name is a rough anagram of Gridman.

    Noirdogma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fsxxmjyauaekx3g.jpeg

  • Behemoth Battle: Yomogi uses Instance Domination to take control of one to have it battle the others in order to buy time for Yuta to save Gridman.
  • Significant Anagram: Like the other kaiju in the movie, their names are a rough anagram of Gridman.
  • Zerg Rush: Their primary tactic is to overwhelm their opponent through sheer force of numbers.

    Big Goldburn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/big_goldburn.jpg

An upgraded Goldburn designed by Akane based on Chise's dragon tattoo.

  • Combining Mecha: It helps form "Rogue Kaiser Gridman" by joining with Gridman Universe Fighter and Dynazenon. It can also combine with Gridman alone to form a wingpack much like its regular form can for Gridknight, with this form designed to further empower Gridman's Fixer Beam.
  • Only the Chosen May Pilot: Chise is explicitly Goldburn's pilot in this form.

    Mad Origin

Voiced by: Nobutoshi Canna (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mad_origin.jpg

  • Big Bad: It's the one behind the movie's Kaiju appearances.
  • Embodiment of Vice: Following DYNAZENON revealing Kaiju are embodiments of human emotions, with the ones Akane created in GRIDMAN reflecting her mental state, Mad Origin is referenced by Alexis to be an aggregate of humanity's darkest aspects.
  • Evil Counterpart: In contrast to the rest of the kaiju in the movie, Mad Origin best fits being a dark mirror of Gridman without being deliberately modeled after him like the others.
  • Final Boss: It serves as the last opponent fought in the movie.
  • Mythology Gag: Mad Origin's appearance is one to the very origins of kaiju movies and Tsuburaya as a company themselves, as its design is based on the very first Godzilla suit that Haruo Nakajima wore in Godzilla (1954), and specifically how the top half of the costume could be removed to leave just a harness while filming shots that would only see the legs.
  • No Name Given: Its name is never stated in the movie proper, only listed in the ending credits.
  • One-Winged Angel: It changes into a more powerful form after absorbing Alexis.
  • Significant Anagram: As the creator of the movie's Kaiju, it's only fitting that its name is an anagram of Gridman.
  • Soulless Shell: Although Mad Origin speaks and acts like it's a sentient being in its own right, Alexis notes that it's a philosophical zombie and is simply emulating the responses that a human would give to stimulus without having any actual internal thoughts. This is also why Gridman shows no compunctions about annihilating it, as Mad Origin is only faking being alive.
