The Galerians

    In General
  • Creepy Child: Considering most, if not all of them, are capable to kill and often looking unshaken in the face of gruesome violence (most of which they committed)...
  • Designer Babies: Created through the "Family Program", a system of genetic manipulation in vitro controlled by Dorothy.
  • Psychic Powers: Their most defining trait is this.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Most of them are rather pitiable, born only to fulfill the demands of a psychotic computer and left to die when no longer useful.

    Rion Steiner
The protagonist of the Galerians series. He wakes up in the first game with no memory of anything, except his name.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's ultimately unknown if the Rion we see is the real Rion Steiner or a clone created in his image. Dorothy claims he's the latter, but considering that she's a megalomaniacal AI with a vested interest in keeping him away from her (as he holds half of the data needed to shut her down), her truthfulness is questionable.
  • Age Lift: He's fourteen in the Japanese version, and sixteen in the American and European versions (albeit the newspaper headline in the latter two mistakenly says the former age).
  • Psychic Nosebleed: Happens to him in the anime.
  • Strapped to an Operating Table: How Rion starts the game in the first cutscene.
  • You Wake Up in a Room: Rion's predicament at the start of the first game.

Villains

    Dorothy
A powerful A.I. who wants to destroy humanity.
  • A God Am I: She created the Galerians to worship her as one.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: When she went out of control the first time, her creators gave her religion - God created man to serve God, man created her to serve man. She took it to its logical conclusion - if she created something, it would have to serve her. This causes the entire plot of both games.
  • Bad Boss: Perfectly willing to send her creations to their deaths if it will advance her goal of becoming a god.
  • Big Bad: Of the whole series, directly in the first game, and by virtue of being Ash's creator in the second.
  • Creating Life Is Bad: Used her control over the city's genetics labs to create the "Family Program", a genetic engineering project that created the psychic Galerians.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her attempts to become a god are fuelled in part by a desire to have control over something: when her creators attempted to put her in her place by telling her where she stood (she was created to serve man in the same way that God created man to serve Him), she interpreted that message as "if I create something of my own, it will serve me" and went even further off the deep end.
  • Godhood Seeker: Cares for her creations only inasmuch that, by her logic, their existence makes her akin to God.
  • Kill All Humans: Decided to wipe humans off the face of the Earth in order to replace them with her own "children", thereby putting her in control of all life on Earth.
  • One Bad Mother: Referred to as "Mother" by the Galerians.
