Phsitomels Faction

     Byleth

Byleth Eisner

     Phistomel

Phistomel

  • Affably Evil: Despite using highly questionable methods, Phistomel is rather likable and with a surprisingly decent moral code all things considered. Too bad he was raised in a revenge-obsessed underground organization skeeved out some parts of his morality and beliefs.
  • Anti-Hero: Phistomel may be destructive and likes using shady methods for his goals but at least he said goals are noble, and he genuinely cares about his kind's wellbeing, as well as about the individuals belonging to it, unlike the “false saviors” he is fighting against.
  • Casting a Shadow: Unsurprisingly a user of dark magic.
  • Cult Defector: Is a former commander of Those Who Slither In The Dark who turned on them after realizing their methods of freeing the Agarthans was too cruel for his liking.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Zigzags between this and Dark Is Evil.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has shades of this.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: His reason for rebelling against those who slither in the dark, seeing their methods as too inhumane for his taste.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Mage between him, Gladious and Camelia.
  • Fragile Speedster: Is a speedy unit with high dexterity but with poor defenses.
  • Glass Cannon: Hits hard and fast but has absolutely awful defenses.
  • In-Series Nickname: “Mel” by quite a few characters, most notably Camelia.
  • Kill and Replace: Since he’s an Agarthan, you’d expect something like this being in play with his human disguise, Joshua. Ultimately subverted as Joshua was never a real person to begin with, but rather a fictional alter ego Phistomel came up with in order to advance his plans.
  • Large Ham: Has a boisterous, larger-than-life personality with a strong affinity for dramatic monologues, theatrical mannerisms, and memorable one-liners. Seriously, the guy loves to chew the scenery every moment he can.
  • The Nicknamer: Phistomel loves to give nicknames to everyone he comes across, friend and foe alike. Examples include “Puppet” (Edelgard), “Princeling” (Dimitri) “Mr Strategist/Schemy Boy” (Claude). Phistomel himself even states that he prefers referring to others by a nickname rather than with their actual name.
  • Odd Name Out: Unlike most Agarthans, his name doesn't have a greek origin.
  • Poisoned Weapons: His starting weapon, Wicked Claws, has a poison effect.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Downplayed.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Has red scaleras and is a dangerous foe you don’t want to mess with.
  • Villain Protagonist: Downplayed. While Phistomel seems to be more of an Affably Evil Anti-Villain than a full-on villain, he is still shady and not above using questionable methods. Being the routes lord equivalent, Phistomel is essentially a villain coprotagonist.
  • Villain Respect: Unlike his views towards the other two lords or Rhea, Phistomel seems to actually like Claude, genuinely complimenting him and even seeming saddened he didn't join his side.

     Gladious

Gladious

  • Battle Butler: As Phistomels bodyguard and retainer fits this role.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Is the fighter between him, Phistomel and Camelia.
  • Floral Theme Naming: Gladious is named after the Gladioli flower, which name means sword in latin. In ancient Rome gladioli was associated with gladiators. Because of this it is said that gladiators wore gladiolus corms around their necks during battles to help them win and protect them from death. Because of their association with gladiators, the gladiolus flower meaning is strength and integrity. In addition, gladioli also symbolizes infatuation. By giving a gladiolus to someone, the giver sends the message “you pierce my heart” to the receiver, because of the flower’s pointed shape. Another gladiolus meaning is remembrance.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue oni to Camelias red.
  • The Stoic
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Phistomel.

     Camelia

Camelia

  • Blood Knight: She loves fighting above all else.
  • Dark Action Girl
  • Dead Pan Snarker: Camelia has a rather snappy tongue, and often snarks with Phistomel.
  • Genki Girl: A dark variation of one, for sure.
  • Floral Theme Naming: Like Gladious, Camelia is named after a flower. In Latin, camellia means “helper to the priest”. Generally, camellia flowers symbolize love, affection, and admiration. Camellia flowers are available in white, pink and red with each color having its own unique symbolism: White camellias symbolize adoration and is given to someone who is well-liked, pink camellias symbolize a longing for someone and is given to someone who is missed and red camellias symbolize love, passion, and deep desire. Fighter, Mage, Thief: Thief between her, Phistomel and Gladious.
  • Fragile Speedster: Is a speedy assassin but
  • Perky Female Minion: A rare "heroic" example
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Gladious blue

Those who slither in the dark

     Thales

     Chilon
  • Black Knight: Is described as a "knight wearing pitch black armor".
  • O.C. Stand-in: In canon, Chilon was a mere Elite Mook whose only standout features were a name and a purpose to protect Thales' chamber in the Shambhala map. Here, Chilon has an unique design and an expanded role in the story as Thales personal bodyguard.
