    Ranulf (Rai/Lay)

Click to see Ranulf in Fire Emblem Heroes

A Gallian soldier who is right hand to the future king, and Heterosexual Life-Partners with Ike.

Class: Cat (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)
Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Japanese, Radiant Dawn, Heroes), Ed Bednarzik (English, Radiant Dawn), Armen Taylor (English, Fire Emblem Heroes)

  • Ascended Extra: While not exactly a minor character in Path, he ultimately only shows up in the early portion of the game then gets Put on a Bus for the very large middle portion and then only re-enters the story for the final retaking of Crimea (and he is only playable at that last portion). In Dawn, Ranulf is the primary Laguz character and serves as one of the central generals of the Laguz army, heavily putting him in the spotlight. He also enjoys massive availability, one of the highest out of any of the non main characters, and adding his ideal support with Ike, its pretty worthwhile to keep him around a lot.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: One of Galia's top generals, and also a playful and funky Cat Boy. This is less apparent in Radiant Dawn however, as the critical situation forces him to stay serious, and this is further worsened by the fact that he has to keep Skrimir in line. He sure has a stressful time and generally doesn't get to ease up for most of Dawn besides some interactions with Ike.
  • Cat Boy: Like most beast Laguz, he has this look in his humanoid form. That being said, Ranulf is notable for being the only actual, literal Cat Boy, as the other cat laguz are all female, and the other feline male laguz are either tigers or lions, not specifically cats.
  • Character Development: The darker and heavier storyline in Dawn forces him to square up, and he is under a lot of stress as Skrimir's handler on top of it. As a result he has a much more grounded actitude, rarely laughs and loses a big portion of his jokester nature, only letting up occasionally with Ike.
  • Character Select Forcing: In Radiant Dawn, he is mandatory in huge portion of part 3. Unlike Sothe, this is no issue as Ranulf is one of the best non-royal Laguz available.
  • Chekhov's Gun: He fought the Black Knight near the middle of Path of Radiance, he fought Zelgius near the middle of Radiant Dawn, and he is one of the first characters to figure out they are the same person, and even personally tells Ike of this fact.
  • Cheese Strategy: If you paired him with Ike beforehand, placing Ranulf and Ike near the edge of the barrier during the Duel Boss segment in Rebirth 2 inDawn, gives Ike a HUGE boost in both accuracy and avoid, making the duel pathetically easy as Ike barely gets hit and in turn lands every attack due to Ranulf's wind affinity. In contrast, Ike's other mayor pairing, Soren, who has a dark affinity, gives a similar boost in avoid, but instead of accuracy he grants a bit of raw damage, which is a lot less important during the fight. Usually the fight isnt very difficult anyways, but if you rolled a bad Ike or if you didn't level him dilligently, a Ranulf bond can save your ass.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Spends a big portion of Dawn desperately trying to keep Skrimir's most insane impulses in check, with only limited success. The fact that Ranulf typically is a playful jokester but is now forced into a very stressful job focuses the severity of the situation.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Ranulf has a bad habit of losing these. Once against the Black Knight, once against Skrimir (sort of), and once against Zelgius. This does lead to something, however: see Chekhov's Gun above.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Similarly to Ike, albeit Ranulf tends to be more comedic about it.
Valtome: "The so-called queen... Where is that brazen little hussy? Bring her before me! Now! Right away! Immediately!"
Ranulf: "Are you the best Ashera could do? This really is the end of the world."
  • Facial Markings: Two colored stripes on either side of his chin. This seems to be a racial trait of tiger and cat laguz, not simple war paint or tattoos.
  • Friend to All Children: He adores Amy and admits to Elincia that he's "a sucker for kids."
  • Gay Option: A bit ambiguous, but he and Soren are strongly implied to be this for Ike in their shared endings. Ike doesn't have a shared ending with anyone else besides the two of them though.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: During one of Skrimir's worse Leeroy Jenkins moments in Radiant Dawn, Ranulf is so desperate to defuse the situation that he challenges Skrimir to a fight to make him retreat. Cue Curb-Stomp Battle that Ranulf loses, but not without breaking Skrimir's ankle and proving his point.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partner: Again, with Ike. Or well, not so heterosexual, depends on how you interpret their interactions and shared ending.
  • Jack of All Stats: The reason he is seen as one of the best non-Laguz Royal in both games. Instead of being a Mighty Glacier like the Tigers, or a Fragile Speedster like his fellow Cats, Ranulf takes the strengths of both stat types and merges them together, resulting in him being a much heavier hitter than any other Cat Laguz, while being much faster compared to the Tigers. While some Cats are faster, and some Tigers are stronger and more durable, he avoids how overspecialized they are.
  • Keet: A milder example, albeit he largely sheds it in Radiance due to the much more stressful situation he's put in.
  • The Lancer: Of Ike's inner circle whenever he's around, particularly during the march on Crimea in Path of Radiance and the Laguz-Begnion War in Radiant Dawn. Despite not being a Greil Mercenary Ike trusts him as much as one of their own. His wit and upbeat pluckiness contrast Ike's pragmatism and unfazed personality. As a laguz he also provides the greatest visual and cultural contrast.
  • Lightning Bruiser Excelent speed and movility, with effective durability and the punch to utilize it.
  • Limit Break: Roar (Path of Radiance) and Rend (Radiant Dawn).
  • Little Bit Beastly: He's got catlike ears and a tail in his humanoid form.
  • Mr. Fanservice: An Ambiguously Bi catboy with revealed toned arms and mismatched eyes. His official art poses are pretty Fanservicey too.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Ranulf is often quick to point out and criticize characteristics typical of other Laguz, such as their Blood Knight tendencies, disdain for sophisticated battle tactics, and prejudice against the Beorc.
  • Nice Guy: Is more willing to get along with Beorc than most of his comrades. As an important army general he has had previous political interactions with other Beorc, so he has a more nuanced outlook on it.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In-Universe, he considers what he finds in Gritnea Tower to be this; he tells Izuka that seeing the results of his experimentations has haunted his nightmares for the past three years if they fight in Radiant Dawn.
  • Only Sane Man: In Radiant Dawn. Ranulf seems to be the only member of the Laguz Alliance who realizes they're the weaker force, and will not just steamroll across Bengion to victory. As a result, the very first thing he does is hire the Greil Mercenaries, and appoint Soren as the Alliance's strategist.
  • One-Hit Kill: Like the other cat laguz he gets Rend as his ultimate skill in Dawn. Its not literally a oneshot, but the way it calculates damage makes it guaranteed lethal against pretty much everything, besides key bosses with Nihil.
  • Ship Tease: Many of his interactions with Ike, starting in the endgame of Path and then consistently through most of Dawn are out there. Ranulf is noted to be one of the few people to manage to get Ike to laugh and relax, and in Dawn Ike is the primary reason Ranulf isn't going mad with stress, as Ike is the only person he can open up to and the only one who manages to get Ranulf back to his jokester self.
  • Walking the Earth: If he and Ike reach an A-support in Radiant Dawn, they go together in their journey towards the unknown.
  • The Worf Effect: Used on at least three occasions to show off how powerful an opponent is by having them thoroughly beat him. He'll even lampshade it himself if he fights Nailah on 3-E, complaining that he seems to always get matched up against opponents out of his league. Funnily enough this isn't really the case in gameplay as Ranulf is easily the best non royal laguz in game.

    Lethe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/por_lethe_artwork.png
Click to see Lethe in Fire Emblem Heroes
Gallia's Valkyrie

A Cat-tribe Laguz with a near pathological hatred of Beorc, Lethe and her subordinate, Mordecai, are assigned to Ike by the King of Gallia. As a warrior from her tribe, she has battle experience and is quite powerful. Sharp-tongued, and with a vicious temper, she eventually moves past her hatred, forming close friendships with Ike and Jill.

Class: Cat (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)
Voiced by: Naomi Ozora (Japanese, Fire Emblem Heroes), Kirsten Day (English, Fire Emblem Heroes)

  • Adaptational Badass: Lethe is not a outright bad unit in her home game, but she is not a particularly good one either, and is heavily overshadowed by Ranulf, and is borderline unusable in Radiant Dawn. Her Heroes incarnation is much stronger, with good Spd and Atk, and she has the ability to deny a foe's follow up attack. Since she's a Red Beast, she can beat Ranulf (who is a Green Beast in that game) thanks to the weapon triangle advantage.
  • Cat Girl: She's a cat-tribe Laguz, so naturally she's got the cat ears in addition to her human-like appearance.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She changes quite a bit in the span of three years between Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.
  • Establishing Character Moment: A quick and skilled laguz warrior. She makes her first appearance pulling a Big Damn Heroes along with Mordecai, killing a bunch of enemy soldiers and saving Ike' party.
  • Facial Markings: A few colored stripes on her cheeks and chin.
  • Fantastic Racism: Hold a clear disdain for Beorc that progressively weakens over the course of Path of Radiance, but still lingers somewhat in Radiant Dawn.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's extremely rude and abrasive, but deep down she's a good person and fights for a good cause.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She's got catlike ears and a tail in her humanoid form.
  • Noble Bigot: At times, she's practically the Distaff Counterpart to Shinon.
  • Odd Friendship: With Jill. The two meet one another, are almost hilariously racist to each other, then end up showing one another how stupid they're being and they become good friends because of this.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Unlike Lyre, she's mature and serious about what she does.
  • Tsundere: She's antagonistic most of the time, but has a softer side.

    Mordecai (Mordy)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mordecai_artwork_28fe1029.png
Click to see Mordecai in Fire Emblem Heroes

Lethe's subordinate, Mordecai is a Tiger-tribe Laguz with a cheerful demeanor and an incomplete command of the Beorc tongue. He bears no ill-will towards the Beorc and often reprimands Lethe for her racist behavior; he is quick to make friends with all the members of the company.

Class: Tiger (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)
Voiced by: Akinori Egoshi (Japanese, Fire Emblem Heroes), Jason Vande Brake (English, Fire Emblem Heroes)

  • Beware the Nice Ones: See Berserk Button below, but generally, just about all his boss conversations epitomize this trope. They usually start with him trying to resolve things peacefully... until the boss calls him 'sub-human' and he snaps.
  • Berserk Button: Do NOT call him "Sub-human". It won't end well. (Soren learned this the hard way.)
  • The Big Guy: Can fulfill this role in much the same way as Gatrie.
  • Eloquent in My Native Tongue: He has trouble speaking the Tellius Language, but does so anyway because how the Beast laguz ordinarily communicate (via growls and roars) would likely scare his beorc allies.
  • Facial Markings: Lots of blue stripes.
  • Friend to All Children: Befitting his Gentle Giant demeanour. In Radiant Dawn, some Crimean villagers mention how during Crimea's reconstruction, the children of the village loved playing with him.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Mordecai's art book shows him allowing squirrels and other small animals to run across his body.
  • Gentle Giant: He's extremely kind and wishes that he didn't have to fight.
  • Little Bit Beastly: In his humanoid form, he's got animal ears and a tail. The tiger ears are on the side of his head, setting the standard for Tiger Laguz.
  • Mighty Glacier: He's got high strength and good defense, but he's very slow compared to the other laguz. Even then though, he's easily faster then most beorc when transformed. In Heroes, he's a great example of this: High HP, Atk, and Def, with his refined weapon granting even more Atk and Def, but he has basically no Spd or Res.
  • No Brows: Mordecai has no eyebrows, making him look more gruff then most playable characters.
  • Nice Guy: He's very sweet and easygoing, as long as his Berserk Button is not pressed.
  • Odd Friendship: With Stefan, a being that a lifetime of cultural conditioning says that Mordecai should either ignore entirely or kill on sight.
  • Utility Party Member: Mordecai may not be ready to fight immediately at the start of the battle, unlike Lethe, but his Smite ability allows him to either give a big headstart or move an ally out of a dangerous position. This is also reflected perfectly in Heroes, where he also has Smite, and his weapon and B skill both apply various effects after using it, namely stat debuffs on any foe that's nearby after using Smite (or any other positional Assist), and stat buffs on both Mordecai and his ally that he just used the Assist on.
  • Younger Than They Look: One would assume based off Mordecai's grey hair and hard features, he is in his middle age or above, but All There in the Manual reveals Mordecai is proportionally equivalent to a 20 year old..

    Muarim
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/MuarimFE10_4114.png

The Deputy Leader of the Laguz Emancipation Army, and a former slave of a Begnion aristocrat. He is a stalwart warrior, but is also an honest and shy person. He is Tormod's foster father. In Radiant Dawn, he supports the fight for the liberation of Daein.

Class: Tiger (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)
Voiced By: Sakurai Tōru (Japanese, Fire Emblem Heroes), Kevin Urban (English, Fire Emblem Heroes)

  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: He's a fairly strong tiger, and wears a cool bandana.
  • The Big Guy: Naturally, as a tiger laguz.
  • Crutch Character: See Tormod and Vika in Radiant Dawn. Fortunately, Muarim avoids the fate of Can't Catch Up and his stats are still good enough for late Part 4 to put up a fight.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His past as a slave left him with some psychological problems, to say the least, like when he tells Lethe that he still has trouble thinking of himself as an equal to beorc.
  • Facial Markings: Very thick green ones.
  • Gentle Giant: He treats his surrogate son and good friend Tormod very gently, and is a quiet and thoughtful guy despite being powerful enough to claw many people in two.
  • The Lancer / Older Sidekick: To Tormod, being the deputy of the Emancipation Army and letting Tormod take the helm.
  • Little Bit Beastly: In his humanoid form, he's got animal ears and a tail.
  • Made a Slave: He was a laguz slave in Begnion for a good while before he escaped.
  • Parental Substitute: For Tormod, whom he found as an infant and raised.
  • The Quiet One: He's very thoughtful, and tends to be brief in speech.
  • Secret-Keeper: He accidentally discovers Micaiah's brand and warns her about it. He learns the whole deal of her status as Branded at the end of Part 1. He's the only character to learn about her brand before Part 4 who isn't Sothe and (potentially) Soren (another Branded).
  • Slave Liberation: As part of the Laguz Emancipation Army alongside Tormod.
  • Super-Strength: In his supports with Largo, he says he once carried rocks that were larger than him that he chiseled off of a mountain and carried up a hill to help fix a wall. He then wins the ensuing lifting context with Largo.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: In his recruitment chapter, he is incapable of attacking any child units.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: He's going to free all of the laguz slaves with Tormod and the rest of the Emancipation force.

    Giffca
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/FE10_Giffca_Artwork_8657.png

The "Shadow Warrior" of King Caineghis and serves as his loyal vassal. His strength is said to be similar to the Lion King's own, though he does not wish to succeed the king. He commands immense respect across Laguz, even amongst Laguz royals.

Class: Lion (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: In Path of Radiance, he's one of the three very powerful units that the player can choose to assist in the battle against Ashnard. He returns in Radiant Dawn as one of the final units to join for the Tower of Guidance, alongside Caineghis.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: A subversion, since he is "only" a vassal instead of a royal despite being close to King Caineghis' own strength. However, this still turns out to be a pretty powerful position. He also doesn't lead the Gallian forces in Radiant Dawn despite his strength. All of this is implied to be because he serves in a position more similar to black ops than anything else, and being discreet is an important part of his job.
  • The Creon: He's something of a second-in-command to the King of the Beast Tribe with comparable strength to the King himself, but he explicitly wishes to not succeed as king himself.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Like his king, he has very high stats across the board, and is nearly invincible. In Radiant Dawn, their stats are so similar that he may as well be considered a second playable version of Caineghis. Giffca just doesn't have the Formshift skill like Caineghis does, but he comes with a Laguz Gem which lets a Laguz stay transformed for the rest of the map. It only has five uses, but conveniently, the endgame is split into five parts.
  • Little Bit Beastly: He has rounded, lionlike ears in his humanoid form.
  • Manly Facial Hair: He's got power comparable to Caineghis, the Beast king, and a manly look to boot thanks to his sideburns, moustache, and chinstrap beard.
  • Mouth of Sauron: A heroic example; as Caineghis's "shadow", he is given the authority to act in his king's stead should his full strength not be necessary.
  • Purposely Overpowered: As the 11th-Hour Ranger in Path of Radiance, he may be necessary to defeat Ashnard if your Ike isn't up to snuff. Radiant Dawn takes it up a notch as his elevated stats make him effectively a second Caineghis so long as he has a Laguz Gem.
  • Satellite Character: He's the Lion King's loyal vassal...and that's about it. Heroes later reveal through Caineghis that he is worried about his king's safety to the point that he would substitute for the king's duties just so the Caineghis lives without any risk on his life.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Giffca was sent to Melior in Caineghis' stead to help wrap up the war. Ashnard finds this amusing:
Ashnard: You're the one they speak of in whispers... The lion king's shadow. What are you doing so far from your body, shadow? Am I so terrible that your king hides in fear?
Giffca: Your strength, King of Daein, is not sufficient. That is why I am here.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Caineghis; laguz choose their leaders based on strength, and Giffca's strength is said to rival Caingehis', but he's content to be the Lion King's Shadow.
  • What, Exactly, Is His Job?: In Radiant Dawn, he isn't tapped to lead Gallia's end of the war against Begnion because he's off doing "other duties." Ranulf seems just as skeptical as anyone.
    • Caineghis later reveals what he really does in Heroes: he's a substitute for the king for tasks that the king's authority is needed, just to lessen the risk of the king's life being in danger. In other words, he's the representative of the king. The one time the king himself was present while Giffca was not is with Greil's duel and later death with the Black Knight in Path of Radiance, and that because it's both to save Ike and It's Personal due to one of his greatest allies dying and not being there to save him.

Birds

    Reyson (Rieusion)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reyson_artwork_fe10.png
Click here to see Reyson in Fire Emblem Heroes

The third and last prince of the Heron Clan, he initially held a grudge against all Beorc, but after finding his sister was alive, he found it in himself to forgive the Apostle of Begnion.

Class: Heron (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)

  • Berserk Button: Oliver's continued existence. Not that any decent human being could blame him.
  • Black Sheep: Unlike his siblings, he's not one to stand gently and quietly by, due to the influence of the Hawks on him. If he talks to Sephiran in Radiant Dawn, Sephiran asks him if he's really a member of the heron tribe, as his will is far stronger than a normal heron.
  • Color-Coded Eyes: Like the rest of the herons, his green eyes are likely related to his ability to sing magical galdrs.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Gender-Inverted Example. Despises humans, taking a good bit of Ike-flavored honesty to get him to warm up to them.
  • Fantastic Racism: Initially towards Beorc, but not without good reason.
  • Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration: See all these tropes about how Reyson's got a stronger will than your average heron, looks up to a guy who's Badass Incarnate, and so forth? These do reflect in gameplay; in both Radiant Dawn and Heroes, Reyson is notably physically sturdier than Leanne or Rafiel, to the point of usually being able to take a physical hit when compared to them, particularly when shifted.
  • Handicapped Badass: Physically incapable of combat, to the extent that even throwing a punch breaks the bones in his hand. Still a badass, as evidenced by his willingness to throw a punch anyway.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: His supports with Ike reveal that Reyson at times despised himself for his inability to fight after the Serenes Massacre, and was jealous of Tibarn's great strength. He tried to toughen himself up by force, but just ended up making himself ill a lot of the time.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Radiant Dawn sees him almost completely drop the "jerk" part.
  • Limit Break: His so-called "mastery skill" is technically just Blessing (heals a small amount of HP to adjacent allies). In Radiant Dawn Herons don't have any mastery skill, though one could argue the uber Recovery galdr they get at Level 40 (full HP and clears statuses) qualifies. Good luck getting any of them up to that.
    • Like most Laguz transforming is this, but he's notable in the sense that his transformation is a massive power boost, letting him refresh 4 units, up from 1. His siblings refresh the same amount regardless of transformation, making it just a sight defensive (and movement for Leanne) boost for them, while Reyson jumps from mediocre to overbearing while transformed.
  • Magic Music: His galdr have a variety of supportive powers.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: For a race that are supposedly pacifistic, Reyson is strong-willed and assertive. It is likely that living with Tibarn for much of his life rubbed off on him.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: In Radiant Dawn, he and his siblings will never be deployed together. In Part 4, the three each go with either Ike, Micaiah or Elincia and for the Endgame chapters, only one can go into the Tower of Guidance.
  • Non-Action Guy: His role is similar to the Dancers and Bards in previous games; he isn't capable of combat himselfnote , but he's quite capable of rejuvenating his allies.
    • In Path of Radiance he punches Duke Oliver in the nose full force. Oliver is only slightly bruised by the strike, while Reyson breaks all the bones in his hand.
Ike: But it felt good, didn't it?
      Reyson: Oh yeah.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: What he wanted to do as a result of the Serenes Massacre, because he didn't know that there were any survivors other than himself and his father. He got over his desire for revenge when he learned that Leanne was still alive and she persuaded him to accept Sanaki's apology.
  • Pointy Ears: In his humanoid form, just like all of the other Bird tribe laguz.
  • Quirky Bard: See Non-Action Guy above.
  • Support Party Member: He can't attack at all, and relies on his galdr to give his allies Extra Turns and healing.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: His appearance and function are quite similar to Elphin's. His personality, on the other hand...
  • Winged Humanoid: In his humanoid form, like the other bird laguz.

    Tibarn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ferd_tibarn.png
Click here to see Tibarn in Fire Emblem Heroes

The Hawk King of Phoenicis, Tibarn bears an implacable hatred towards Begnion — and by extension all humans — following the Serenes Massacre. Impulsive and quick to anger, Tibarn slowly comes around on the subject of humanity, forming a strong friendship with Ike and Queen Elincia.

Class: Hawk King (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)
Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Japanese, Radiant Dawn, Fire Emblem Heroes), Joey Pepin (English, Radiant Dawn), Joe J. Thomas (English, Fire Emblem Heroes)

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: In Path of Radiance he joins in the very final map, and he's notably able to content with the Final Boss almost blow for blow. Downplayed in Radiant Dawn, where he is more active as an NPC over the game, and you get to play him for up to 7 maps towards the end. He's still pretty restricted in usage, but are actually able to stablish relationships and a build for him, unlike in Path.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Like all laguz kings, he's in charge because he's the strongest of his kind. And holy freaking crap, does it show. He is hands down one of the baddest dudes on the continent, and only really fears crossbows thanks to his ludicrous stats.
  • Berserk Button: Anyone harming Reyson, ever. He damn near throttles Nealuchi when he finds out what Naesala did in Path of Radiance.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Forces Micaiah's surrender by threatening to drop Sothe off of a cliff.
  • Covered with Scars: His body is covered with scars from countless generations of fighting.
  • Fantastic Racism: Is initially convinced that all humans cannot be trusted. Meeting Ike and Elincia helps to disabuse him of this notion.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Even once he becomes one of Ike's staunch allies, he's still rather aggressive and not one to play nice with his enemies.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Ike and Elincia.
  • It's Personal: His hatred for Begnion is very personal to him. He attacks Begnion merchants in Path of Radiance because they slaughtered his blood brothers, the Heron tribe, in the Serenes Massacre and the Senate covering up the genocide. Learning that the Senators themselves were responsible for the framing of the Heron tribe that kickstarted the Massacre sends him on a rage that the laguz nations formed the Laguz Alliance and declared war on Begnion.
  • Leitmotif:
  • Lightning Bruiser: Statistically, Tibarn is the equivalent of strapping rockets on an M4 Sherman. He'll double EVERYTHING, dish out a hell of a lot of damage, easily tank whatever he doesn't outright No-Sell with his innate Pavise skill, and to top it all off, he can fly, making him an easy contender for the best unit in Radiant Dawn.
  • Mentor Archetype: To Reyson, oddly enough. Fans have noted that an eagle actually makes for a terrible role-model to a heron, and Reyson spends a lot of time in Path of Radiance trying to live up to a (literally) impossible standard of badassery.
  • Noble Bird of Prey: His Laguz form is a giant green-tinted bald eagle and he himself is a king, the "Lord of the Air".
  • Purposely Overpowered: Imagine if Caineghis could fly, and you have Tibarn in a nutshell; he'll one-round the vast majority of enemies that make the stupid decision of picking a fight with him. Besides the absolutely jacked final bosses The only units who can reliably do damage to him are Crossbow wielders in Radiant Dawn, and even then, he's one of the few fliers that can occasionally survive an attack from them.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: By far the most active Laguz king in the series, given than Caineghis has a severe case of (benevolent) Orcus on His Throne, Naesala is... just a mess and Dheginsea is Stupid Neutral. Meanwhile Tibarn personally leads his nation in battle and is very active politically.
  • Ship Tease: With Elincia of all people, in Radiant Dawn. It's mostly on Tibarn's end, but Bastian gets some innuendo in when he catches Tibarn and Elincia alone, talking about the effects of interracial marriage.
    • He also has a conversation with Nailah in Radiant Dawn that borders the line between suggestive and flat-out foreplay. It's not likely you'll see it, though.
    • Reyson too. Their interactions go well past simply Tibarn being his protector and there is a joke in Radiant Dawn about Tibarn tying the heron down to the bed so that Reyson gets some rest.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Sort of. He's presented as the manly man to Reyson's sensitive guy, but Reyson is a quite a bit less sensitive than he seems, in part for being around Tibarn for a couple of decades.
  • Shirtless Scene: Constantly has his jacket unbuttoned, showing off an impressively muscular chest.
  • Sky Pirate: Like Naesala, he marauds merchant ships that swim too close to Phoenicis seas. The main difference between him and Naesala, where he attacks anyone, Tibarn only attack Begnion ships out of personal grievances against Begnion for the Serenes Massacre.
  • Super-Strength: As a Laguz King. He's one of the few people who can even injure Ashnard or Zelgius.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Tibarn is very unforgiving toward anyone that slights him by the death of his kinsmen (including the Heron tribes, who he consider his brothers). He express his fury towards Naesala, the Black Knight, Izuka, and Lekain for offending him.
  • Vengeance Denied: While he got his vengeance on Izuka and Lekain, he never got his vengeance against Naesala and the Black Knight as the former is more-or-less pardoned and circumstances prevent them from fighting and the latter is a personal matter for Ike.
  • Winged Humanoid: When he's unshifted.
  • The Worf Barrage: Zig-zagged. Tibarn's head on attack is blocked by Zelgius specifically to show how much of a threat he really is. However, Tibarn then quickly untransforms to speak with him preventing a full on fight. The actual match up can never happen in game, but stat wise Tibarn would wipe the floor with Zelgius with easenote

  • "X" Marks the Hero: His most-distinct feature is a cross-shaped scar covering across his nose and left half of his face. He is also a reliable Laguz ally of Ike and Elincia.

    Ulki (Vulci)

Ulki (Vulci)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ulki_por.png

An attendant to Phoenicis' King Tibarn who is gifted with excellent hearing. He is a very calm person who dislikes talking, and is referred to as the "Ears of the Hawk King."

Class: Hawk (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)

    Janaff

Janaff

An attendant to Phoenicis' King Tibarn who is gifted with exceptional eyesight. He has a youthful appearance and attitude but is actually very old, especially by Beorc standards. He is known as "The Eyes of the Hawk King."

Class: Hawk (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)

  • Keet: He's a very upbeat and cheerful hawk, and it's one of the reasons why people think he's young.
  • Older Than They Look: Official Guides and art books reveal Janaff is proportionally and physically in his 30s. With Janaff's short height and youthful babyface, its doubtful many players would peg him as older then 14.
  • Pointy Ears: Just like other bird laguz.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He shocks Oscar and Shinon with being just over 110 years old.
  • Rugged Scar: Has a single scar on the left side of his face, running from his jaw to just under his eye. It's the main visual hint that he's older than he looks.
  • Super-Senses: Extraordinary eyesight to go with Ulki's hearing.
  • Those Two Guys: With Ulki.
  • Winged Humanoid: When he's unshifted.

    Nasir
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Fire_Emblem_10_Nasir_Portrait_772.png
A Dragon Clan member who left Goldoa due to philosophical differences, he poses as a Beorc spice merchant and helps the Greil Mercenaries escape from Daein's troops by boat to Begnion. He follows Ike around and mentors him on the ways of the world for a large part of the game, even after his services as a ship captain have run their course.

Class: White Dragon (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn)

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: In both games, he can join you for the final battles, and is a pretty sturdy unit to field. He'll only join if Ike beats the Black Knight before 5 turns pass in Path of Radiance, and in Radiant Dawn, just refrain from killing him.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: Though the cast doesn't know he's a dragon Laguz until his Big Damn Heroes moment against the Black Knight.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Much like his compatriot Gareth, he joins at a point where there is nothing left but magic users to fight, and his attacks only deal magic damage. Unlike Gareth though, Nasir comes with some good skills, and many of the enemies can't even hope to scratch him; see Stone Wall below.
  • Demoted to Extra: In Radiant Dawn.
  • Dump Stat: In Radiant Dawn, strength is completely useless for him, as his basic breath attacks deal magic damage. Even when unshifted, if an enemy attacks him at 1-range, his counterattacks by punching enemies with his fists will still somehow deal magic damage.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He shows up in chapter 3 of Path of Radiance in one of the houses at the port, claiming to be visiting the fish market and will give the Greil Mercenaries an elixir to help deal with the pirates.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: If Ike is unable to defeat the Black Knight, though Ena's comments during the epilogue don't explicitly state that Nasir is dead for sure. Either way he's alive and well in Radiant Dawn, so either outcome of the Black Knight battle makes sense... in theory.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: He is apparently your ally early on in Path of Radiance, only to be revealed to be spying on you for Ashnard in order to keep Ena safe. After defeating the Black Knight, he joins you for real and helps you fight Ashnard. In Radiant Dawn, he follows Dheginsea to atone for his actions in Path of Radiance and stands against you on the third stratum of the Tower of Guidance, but if he survives, he will rejoin you one last time to oppose Sephiran and Ashera.
  • Limit Break: Boon (Path of Radiance) and Ire (Radiant Dawn).
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Will (perhaps) die for all his trouble if Ike doesn't defeat the Black Knight.
  • The Mole: This one counts double — Ranulf is especially surprised to hear Nasir is a traitor, because he was thought to be Gallia's spy!
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: In Path of Radiance. Defeat the Black Knight in single combat and he will join you. Fail to do so and he will sacrifice himself to allow you to escape, leading to his granddaughter Ena joining you in his stead.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: In Radiant Dawn, he's decided never to betray Dheginsea again, motivated by guilt over his actions in Path of Radiance. This leads to you and Nasir being at odds during the final chapter, but he'll join you (on the king's orders, naturally) after you beat Dheginsea. (Assuming you don't kill Nasir first.)
  • Really 700 Years Old: As a Dragon Laguz he ages very slowly. Even though he looks young, he has an adult granddaughter who is pregnant.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Nasir gives a doozy of one to Almedha before the final chapter in Radiant Dawn. He spells out, among other things, how Ashnard did everything in his power to antagonize Dheginsea and suck him into the war, hits home how much the continent is still suffering from the aftermath of Ashnard's antics, and how the numerous catastrophes that have lead up that point are her fault for getting involved with Ashnard. All this, after having not seen her face-to-face for 90 years. Talk about a ghost from the past!
    • To a lesser extent, he gives one to Kurth and Ena as well. He tells them that because they got involved in the war despite Dheginsea's warnings, all of Goldoa's efforts to remain neutral have been for nothing. His speech to them can be summed up as "Good fucking job, you two."
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: Somewhat. In the beginning of the game, he comments that Ike's idealism will be tested and broken. By the end, if he survives, he will admit that he was wrong and that Ike is much stronger than he anticipated.
  • Secret-Keeper: Nasir is one the handful of people in the entire world who knows the family tree of Lehran and Altina, the origin of the Branded and their persecution, and the true terms of the pact made with Ashera. Presumably, he was told all of this by Dheginsea, and he doesn't reveal any of it until Kurthnaga becomes king (if you fulfill the conditions for the Ike's Memory scene).
  • Status Buff: His White Pool grants +5 Magic and Speed to adjacent units.
  • Stone Wall: In Radiant Dawn, Nasir's magic based attacks won't be dealing too much damage to any of the enemies that come after his recruitment, all of whom have good resistance. However, his own Resistance is so high he'll shrug off the majority of enemies sent his way, and his Nihil skill lets him safely deal with the remaining bosses. Even better, he can equip Imbue so that his high magic can let him heal massive amounts of HP every turn, something that all other units with high magic can't do.
  • Treacherous Advisor: He uses his position (reluctantly) to take the medallion from Mist, passing it to Ena so it will get into Ashnard's hands, in a desperate gambit to save Rajaion.
