Múspell, The Realm of Flame

The Flame of Múspell

Múspell, the Realm of Flame, a world of fire and ash, is the antagonistic force in Book II of Fire Emblem Heroes. After conquering Nifl, Surtr seeks to conquer all worlds with his unyielding flame.

    Realm of Múspell in General
  • Color Motif: To contrast Nifl's colors, they have black, red and yellow prominent on their uniforms. The fact that Loki wears purple instead of red foreshadows that she is not a Múspell native.
  • Dragon Ancestry: All the Múspell royal family carry the blood of the Flame Dragon, Múspell in their veins.
  • Feather Motif: Like the people from Embla, they wear black feathers.
  • Leitmotif: All four of the Múspell story enemies (and Loki) share an unique battle theme.
  • Lethal Lava Land: Múspell is a burning land of lava that is very harsh to live in.
  • Playing with Fire: All of the people of Múspell are associated with the element of fire.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: While red and black predominates their attire, only Surtr has the Evil thing going for him. Everyone else from Múspell is a Punch-Clock Villain at worst. Again, there is a reason why Loki wears purple instead of red.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Downplayed; all of the people of Múspell have bright red eyes, but just like the above example, none of them are actually evil, except for Surtr. Loki's eyes are pink, which is yet another sign that she doesn't hail from Múspell.
  • Theme Naming: Múspelheim is the realm of fire of the Norse nine worlds, home to the Eldjötnar (fire giants).

Flame God / Raging Inferno
"Múspell am I, lord of one realm of the nine! Master of flame! But right now, all that matters... is that you kneel, dog."

One of the Dragons of Zenith who is hailed as the god of Múspell. While his rival Nifl desires unchanging peace, he hungers for constant war.

Voiced by: Tesshō Genda (Japanese), Jason Charles Miller (English)
Artist: Suzuhito Yasuda (regular) so-taro (Bite of Flame)
Class: Red Breath Cavalier (regular), Colorless Breath Cavalier (Bite of Flame)

  • Action Initiative: His Flame variant's Breath of Flame allows him to perform a guaranteed follow-up attack if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • Arc Villain: He is the villain of the "Ice & Flame" Tempest Trials series.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack:
    • His regular variant's Flamelick Breath has the standard effect of post-2.0.0 Breath weapons, where it allows him to target the lower defensive stat of his foe during combat if they wield a ranged weapon. The brutality of this target in is also a slight reference to the nature of the damage his flames cause - anything or anyone burned by him directly cannot be restored or healed - not even by other deities that are his equal like Nifl. His unique skill, Domain of Flame, also boosts his damage, as it grants an Atk and Def boost, as well as a damage boost if his Atk is greater than his foe's Res. He needs to be near an ally to activate this effect though, but he also grants the same effect to nearby allies.
    • His Flame variant's Breath of Flame has the standard effect of post-2.0.0 Breath weapons, where it allows him to target the lower defensive stat of his foe during combat if they wield a ranged weapon, as well as allowing him to halve the value of foe's non-Special Damage Reduction skills if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally. He also has the above Domain of Flame, as well as Moonbow, which reduces the foe's defenses by 30% during combat when it triggers, and Dragon's Wrath 4, where if he has more Atk than the foe's Res, he deals extra damage with his first attack equal to 25% of the difference during combat.
  • Blood Knight: As Nifl's opposite, he embodies this. He even brought Laegjarn back to life for the sole purpose of forcing her to fight Nifl's champion, who happens to be Fjorm.
  • Breath Weapon:
    • His regular variant has Flamelick Breath, where it grants him +3 Atk, targets the foe's lower defensive stat during combat if they wield a ranged weapon, and grants +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat, prevent the foe from recovering HP during and after combat, and inflicts [Deep Wounds] to the foe and all foes within 2 spaces of that foe after combat if he attacked, all which activates if he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
    • His Flame variant has Breath of Flame, where it grants him -1 maximum special cooldown, targets the foe's lower defensive stat during combat if they wield a ranged weapon, grants -1 special cooldown if his special cooldown is at maximum at the start of his turn, and grants +6 Atk during combat, inflicts -6 Atk on the foe during combat, a guaranteed follow-up attack and halves foe's non-Special Damage Reduction skills, all which activates if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: His Breath of Flame, in addition to granting him -1 maximum special cooldown, grants him -1 special cooldown at the start of his turn if it is at maximum special cooldown. Considering that he has Moonbow and it's cooldown is reduced to 1, this means that he has Moonbow ready at the start of his turn.
  • Damage Reduction:
    • His regular variant has Dragon Wall 3, which reduced damage taken from attacks and non-Røkkr AOE specials by 4% for every point of Res he has over his foes, up to 40% reduced; with his default 37 Res, he can put it to good use.
    • His Flame variant has Dragon's Wrath 4, where it reduces damage taken from the foe's first attack by 25%.
  • Delinquent Hair: To go along his Japanese Delinquents design, he has a flaming pompadour.
  • Didn't Think This Through: In the beginning of "Ice & Flame 4", Laegjarn notes that while Múspell and Nifl are powerful beings, his strategic mindset is poor due to her and Nifl's champion Fjorm being evenly matched and will end in a draw and that he knows that. Subverted in the ending of "Ice & Flame 4" in that he knows that they're evenly matched and gives Laegjarn the Flame Gem, the same one that gave Surtr his Resurrective Immortality in Book II, as well as having insight of the Twilit Runes having the result of their battle set in stone, with Laegjarn coming out as the winner. Unfortunately for him, the prophecy had enough wiggle room for Fjorm to use it against him.
  • Egopolis: The Kingdom of Múspell is named after him.
  • Fiery Redhead: Literally; he has a head made of fire and is known to be very aggressive in personality.
  • Final Boss: His regular variant in the "Ice & Flame 3" Tempest Trials+ event.
  • Foil: To Nifl, but their differences are much deeper than simply having the opposite elemental affinity. Both gods are creators of their respective realms, but Nifl is a goddess who wishes for peace as well as things to remain the same forever governing and caring for the people of her realm, while Múspell desires war and for things to be constantly changing, yet neglects the people of his realm. As well as this, Nifl is a cold Emotionless Girl while Múspell is a Hot-Blooded Psychopathic Manchild and gets emotional very easily. Gameplay-wise, Nifl's base kit and stats are built more towards defensive strategies with her Domain of Ice granting more defensive power to her allies, while Múspell's skills are more offensive-based, with his Domain of Flame granting more offensive power to his allies.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Regular Múspell's Flamelick breath can inflict Deep Wounds on an enemy and all enemies 2 spaces of that enemy after combat, which is a status that prevents healing. It's why Hvergel had to be mercy killed by Nifl, as the goddess of ice could not heal Hvergel after being burned by Múspell's flames.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He is the cause of Surtr's Nigh-Invulnerability and his invasion to Nifl and Askr, but he does not directly appear in the story of Book II, instead only appearing as part of the "Ice & Flame" Tempest Trials+ series.
  • Hey, You!: He calls Laegjarn, his personal champion, all manner of demeaning names, like "dog."
  • Japanese Delinquents: His regular variant's design, attitude and even his neutral pose gives the feel of one despite of Heroes being in a medieval setting, with his Delinquent Hair, his lack of shirt alongside a Badass Cape invoking a No Shirt, Long Jacket feel, Psychopathic Manchild behavior, and high pitched voice in both English and Japanese.
  • Mighty Glacier:
    • Ironically, given his whole fire theme and all, but his regular variant has fantastic Atk at 41, great Def at 39 and Res at 37, and average HP at 40, but poor Spd at 16. He has no way to alleviate his low Spd in his base kit either.
    • His Flame variant has fantastic Atk at 43 and Def at 41, and average HP at 40 and Res at 30, but below average Spd at 26. However, thanks to his Breath of Flame granting him a guaranteed follow-up attack, he's more of a Lightning Bruiser instead.
  • Mr. Fanservice: His Bite of Flame variant makes him completely shirtless and puts him in a Stripperific outfit that showcases his other attractive parts. Like Surtr before him, he is hot.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike the characters from the realms they created, Múspell and Nifl have drastically different designs, most notably their unusually modern-looking outfits they wear. Additionally, while both he and Nifl are drawn by the same artist, the latter was shaded to look like she would belong with the other Book II characters. Múspell on the other hand was rendered in a more flat but fluid style similar to My Hero Academia or Fire Force characters.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: His dragon form looks more like a traditional dragon, but his wings have a fiery motif, and his hind legs look as if they are made of lava. He's also a cavalry dragon despite the fact that his dragon form is bipedal, as opposed to Nifl who is a quadruped.
  • The Power of Friendship: Also ironically, his Domain of Flame allows him to give +4 Atk/Def during combat and 30% more damage based on that unit's Atk stat versus the enemy's Res stat to his allies as well as himself if he is within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Ha! Guts to spill!"
    "Too fool to run?"
    "Squeal, squeal, squeal!"
    "Bow and die, dog!"
  • Promoted to Playable: Shortly before the "Ice & Flame 3" Tempest Trials+ featuring him as a boss was about to end in September 2021, he was revealed to be a summonable hero.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Despite being the creator of his own realm, Múspell is very immature and prone to screaming and childish comments, true to his hot-blooded nature.
  • Secret Art: He has Domain of Flame exclusive to him, where it grants +4 Atk/Def to himself and all allies within 2 spaces of him during combat if there is an ally within 2 spaces of him, as well as deal extra damage to their first attack equal to 30% of the difference between the user's Atk and the foe's Res if the user has more Atk than the foe's Res.
  • Significant Double Casting: Only in the Japanese version, but he is voiced by Tesshō Genda, who also voices Surtr, the ruler of the Kingdom of Múspell.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: He gives a speech about this to his champion Laegjarn, talking about how friendship is worthless and how humanity exists solely to fight each other.
Múspell: You think you can stand before me and speak of pride and some feeble idea of friendship?! Keep your mouth shut. Friendship is fakery—a shroud of lies and deception. I will burn that idea out of you, until only your true self remains. The raw fire at your core... Mortals are beasts! And I will tear you down until you realize THAT is your true nature. Scream! Writhe all you want! Rage and howl like the dog you are... Let yourself be free! Let your hot blood surge and everything else die! ...You will learn soon enough. And that damned Nifl will learn the fullness of my power right along with you!
  • Status Buff:
    • His regular variant has Flamelick Breath, where it grants him +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat if he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. He also has Rally Up Atk+, which gives +6 Atk to a target ally and allies within 2 spaces of that ally. He also has AR-D Def/Res 4, which gives him up to +11 Def/Res during combat down to +3 Def/Res if he is on the defense team of Aether Raids, depending on the amount of defense structures still standing, and Domain of Flame which allows him to give +4 Atk/Def during combat and 30% more damage based on that ally's Atk stat versus the enemy's Res stat to his allies and himself if there is an ally within 2 spaces of him.
    • His Flame variant has Flame of Breath, where it grants him +6 Atk during combat if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally. He also has Atk/Def Catch 4, where it grants him +7 Atk/Def during combat if the foe either is at full HP or has a [Penalty] inflicted on them, and an additional +2 Atk/Def during combat if both conditions are met, and the above Domain of Flame.
  • Status Infliction Attack: His regular variant's Flamelick Breath allows him to inflict the [Deep Wounds] status effect to the target and all foes within 2 spaces of that target after combat if he attacked, where the status effect prevents the one inflicted with it from recovering HP through their entire turn.
  • Unseen No More: Alongside Nifl, it was assumed that Múspell's patron deity would never appear. However, he was mentioned by Nifl and makes his presence offscreen at the end of "Ice & Flame 1", and later would become the Final Boss of "Ice & Flame 3".
  • We Will Meet Again: Before he is defeated by Fjorm and Laegjarn, he gives this speech:
Muspell: Remember this, you three... Never forget! I will return... And I will settle the score! In the gathering twilight...I will return... And no one will survive... No one! I WILL RAIN DEATH ON THIS WORLD!
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: Anyone burned by Múspell's fire cannot be healed, period. When he engulfed Hvergel with his flames, it was all to make Nifl finish his job since she knew that she couldn't save her in this state. This is reflected in his regular variant's personal weapon, where if he is attacked, he inflicts Deep Wounds on the enemy and allies 2 spaces near them after battle.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Weaponized by him, as he reveals to Laegjarn in "Ice & Flame 4" when she questions his apparent lack of tactical approach to the upcoming battle between her and Nifl's champion Fjorm, with whom she's evenly matched. As he states, he has insight into the Twilit Runes of Alfaðör concerning how the battle will end and thus fears nothing as long as he acts in line of them, which involves giving Laegjarn the Flame Gem, letting the two champions fight, and Laegjarn reviving and being the victor as they decree.
  • You Remind Me of X: He claims that Laegjarn's attitude reminds him of someone from his past long ago, and the way he seems almost approving of it indicates it's not a sore memory.

    Surtr

Ruler of Flame / Pirate of Red Sky
"A true ruler seizes other lands. He puts their people to the flame. There is only one king. There is only one kingdom. All else will burn."

The sadistic king of Múspell and an enemy of Fjorm. He seeks to burn down everything in his path.

Voiced by: Tesshō Genda (Japanese), Kirk Thornton (English, uncredited)
Artist: Shigeki Maeshima (regular), Daisuke Izuka (Resplendent) so-taro (Perilous Seas)
Class: Axe Knight (Heroes, regular), Lance Knight (Heroes, Perilous Seas), Conqueror (Cipher)

  • Abusive Parents: Quotes from his daughters certainly don't paint him as a loving father. Laegjarn tells the Order of Heroes to kill her rather than use her as a hostage, because Surtr wouldn't give a damn about her anyway. Surtr himself later says that his daughters deserve to die for losing to the Order of Heroes in battle and threatens them into using a dangerous ritual that will certainly kill them.
  • Action Initiative:
    • His playable regular variant has Wary Fighter, where it denies the user and the foe from performing any follow-up attacks if the user is at 50% HP or above at the start of combat.
    • His Pirate variant has Crafty Fighter, where it allows him to perform a guaranteed follow-up attack and inflict -1 special buildup on the foe per attack if the foe initiates combat and the user is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Advancing Boss of Doom: In Book II, he'll advance towards your units on a certain turn, sometimes being the first. With Sinmara's Area of Effect flames, the Sacred Seal Múspellflame, and dangerous attack and special, the only thing stopping him from being outright impossible to escape from is his 1 movement due to being an armored unit...although in Book II, Chapter 4-5, he has Armor March, and appears on-screen with another armored unit right next to him.
  • Arc Villain: He's the main antagonist of Book II.
  • Ax-Crazy: In Book II he wants to burn Askr to the ground just for the hell of it. And he plans to move on to Embla once he's done.
  • Back from the Dead: No, killing him with his Múspellflame removed only incapacitates him temporarily. Due to the Rite of Flames, he is effectively immortal. The Askr trio and Fjorm learn this the hard way in Book II Chapter 10.
  • Bad Boss: Threatens Loki at one point for trying to stop an argument between him and Veronica. He also has no tolerance for failure in his ranks — just ask what's left of Helbindi's loved ones.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: In Book II he is working with Veronica to defeat Askr and the Order of Heroes. He fully intends to kill her once Askr is naught but ashes, and he eventually betrays her in Book II Chapter 8, planning to use her as a Human Sacrifice for the Rite of Flames.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Surtr is the very first Heroes-exclusive character to receive a Resplendent variant in early-May 2023, whereas previous Resplendent Heroes were strictly from mainline titles.
  • Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: His regular variant has the axe Sinmara, which gives him +3 Def and inflicts 20 damage on all enemies within two spaces of him at the start of his turn, and he's a vicious king willing to have his own children burned alive if they displease him.
  • Climax Boss: He's the final boss of Book II.
  • Contractual Boss Immunity: Regular Surtr's Múspellflame Sacred Seal makes him immune to all damage. This is why the Order of Heroes spend most of Book II attempting to find a way to remove this to make him vulnerable to their attacks.
  • Cooldown Manipulation:
    • His regular variant's Steady Stance 4 inflicts the Inverted variant, where, in addition to giving him +8 Def during combat, allows him to inflict -1 special buildup per attack on the foe during combat if the foe initiates combat.
    • His Pirate variant's Crafty Fighter also inflicts the Inverted variant, where, in addition to giving him a guaranteed follow-up attack, allows him to inflict -1 special buildup per attack on the foe during combat if the foe initiates combat and he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff:
    • Regular Surtr has Surtr's Menace, which, in addition to giving him +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res, inflicts -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to all foes within 2 spaces of him at the start of his turn if there is a foe within that range at the start of his turn.
    • Pirate Surtr has Surtr's Portent, which, in addition to giving him +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res, inflicts -5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to the nearest foes if there is a foe within 4 spaces at the start of his turn. He also has Sea-Sear Lance, which allows him to inflict -6 Atk/Def on the foe during combat if the foe either initiates combat or is at 75% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Damage Reduction: His Pirate variant's Sea-Sear Lance allows him to reduce damage taken from the foe's first attack by 75% if the foe can perform a follow-up attack and either initiates combat or is at 75% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Deal with the Devil: One of his regular variant's voiced quotes states that his soul was consumed by the Flames of Múspell, implying that he sold his soul for immortality. This is proven to be true as the Flame God Múspell inherited his powers to Surtr through the Rite of Flames, which gave him the motivation to invade the Kingdom of Nifl as well as Askr.
  • Defeat Means Respect: He spends the entirety of Book II believing the Order of Heroes is beneath him, but after they kill him, he says they can defeat Hel. This is after Surtr himself admitted he can't defy Hel, making it pretty big praise coming from him.
  • The Dreaded: Weaponized with his regular variant's exclusive skill Surtr's Menace, which makes anyone who gets too close to him suffer -4 to all of their stats while granting him +4 to all of his stats.
  • Dressed to Plunder: His Pirate variant is dressed entirely in pirate garb, complete with an eyepatch, hat, trenchcoat, boots, and wielding a giant anchor.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: He's a malevolent man who is strongly associated with fire.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: The Oblivion (wants to burn Askr and Embla to the ground) to Veronica's Evil (wants to conquer Askr).
  • Eyepatch of Power: To go along with his Dressed to Plunder with his Pirate variant, he wears an eyepatch over his right eye. However, it is not the same eye that is also scarred and flaming.
  • Fiery Redhead: Literally. He has bright orange hair, and he is volcanic in both ability and temperament.
  • Final Boss:
    • He's the final boss and last opponent of Book II.
    • His Pirate variant is the final boss for "Ice & Flame 2". Notably, he lacks his Surtr's Portent from his playable variant.
  • Finishing Move: Has a unique animation when landing a killing blow where he charges up and swings his weapon upwards.
  • Fireball Eyeballs: Eyeball in this case, but in regular Surtr's attacking, special and damaged art, his left eyeball is burning aflame, especially with his special art.
  • Full Health Bonus: His Pirate variant has Def/Res Ideal 4, where if the user either has a [Bonus] applied to them or is at full HP at the start combat, they gain +7 Def/Res during combat, and if the user has both of those conditions met, the user gains an additional +2 Def/Res during combat.
  • Graceful Loser: His playable version acknowledges that since you beat him, you have the right to do as you please with him. In Xenologue 4, once he gets to Hel, he acknowledges that the summoner and their friends stand the best chance of defeating Hel.
  • Hated by All: Surtr is a despicable king that absolutely nobody likes, not even his own daughters or Loki. After selling his soul to his patron realm's god, he became an evil asshole who conquers all in his path without any other reason other than to rule over all realms as their king.
  • Hero Killer: While he has killed plenty during his conquest, Gunnthrá is one of his latest victims.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Thanks to his Múspellflame Sacred Seal, he is immune to all damage while it's in effect. The only way you can deal with him is to run.
  • I Am the Noun: One of his character selection quotes as a playable character is "I am flame."
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: His regular playable version states that since you defeated him, he'll serve you to defeat your enemies, as long as you use him to burn anything in your way.
  • "Instant Death" Radius: With his regular variant's Sinmara massively damaging start-of-turn Area of Effect, his Secret Art Surtr's Menace debuffing all foes within 2 spaces while buffing all of his stats, and his colossal attack stat making every hit he dishes out hurt, nearly anything that is unfortunate enough to be near him when he starts his turn is as good as dead, especially if he has Bold Fighter equipped.
  • Invincible Villain: With the Sacred Seal Múspellflame equipped. Most of Book II is the Order of Heroes trying to find a way to negate this. While Múspellflame is negated thanks to Fjorm's power from the Rite of Frost, he is still invincible from the Rite of Flames granting him Resurrective Immortality, but even that has its own limits, i.e. constant Human Sacrifices to prolong its effect.
  • Irony:
    • If it weren't for Múspellflame, Surtr would be weak against red mages, who can use fire magic. Also, during Book II Chapter 8, he curbstomps Xander with ease thanks to it. If not for said Sacred Seal, statistically speaking, he'd have been defeated by the Nohrian prince.
    • Surtr wholeheartedly believes that the weak have no purpose and should be swatted aside by the strong. However, as a playable character, his regular variant's Mighty Glacier statline, Sinmara, and Surtr's Menace all combine to make him tremendously good at helping weak units train themselves up.
  • I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure: He kills all of Helbindi's friends and loved ones when they are defeated by the Order of Heroes.
  • Jerkass: If all the previous tropes didn't make it obvious, Surtr is a massive asshole. Surtr never shows even the slightest hint of remorse for what he does, or any respect for those around him, taunting those who would try and fail to fight him thanks to his Múspellflame making him invincible. It makes his eventual - and permanent - death all the more satisfying.
  • Kick the Dog: It's revealed by Laegjarn that Surtr actually burned a bunch of Múspell slums when Helbindi failed his mission. His sister was seemingly part of those slums as well.
  • Killed Off for Real: He finally dies in Book II Chapter 13 as a result of multiple gambits against him, including Fjorm negating Múspellflame, Helbindi rescuing Veronica and Ylgr from being sacrificed for the Rite of Flames, and the Order of Heroes finally taking him down.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The narrative for the main story of Heroes becomes far more serious whenever he shows his ugly mug.
  • Large and in Charge: Just to emphasize how big he is, his sprite in combat is much larger than any of the other characters on-foot. The official height chart of Book I-III characters puts him at around 208cm, making him tower everyone who isn't Hel, and making him taller than even some other tall characters like Dedue.
  • Lost in Translation: Surtr's Menace for Regular Surtr has the Japanese name "炎王の威嚇", translated as "Flame King's Threat", as a connection to the Threaten skills with the same activation range, especially the Tier 4 versions, while Surtr's Portent for Pirate Surtr has the Japanese name "炎王の脅嚇", translated as "Flame King's Menace", connecting to the Menace skills with the same activation range.
  • Magikarp Power: Surprisingly, yes for Regular Surtr: he is classified as a "Trainee", which means while unmerged his Base Stat Total at level 1 is at a 47note  instead of 55 BST like other armored melee units, at level 40 he reaches 179 BST (180 BST with superassets and no superflaws), instead of 173~175 like other Gen 2 armored melee units.
  • Make an Example of Them: To prove that he does not tolerate failure, he burned down the slums where Helbindi lives after his first loss against the Order of Heroes.
  • Meaningful Name: In Norse mythology, Surtr is the guy who will bring about the flames of Ragnarökr; fitting for an omnicidal man hailing from a kingdom of flame. Additionally, his weapon Sinmara is named after his mythological counterpart's consort.
  • Might Makes Right: His entire MO. He believes that his power gives him the right to conquer and destroy every other kingdom. However, it also makes him believe that anyone who defeats him has the right to command him at their will. It's the main reason why his playable version is under your control, since you defeated him despite his immortality.
  • Mighty Glacier:
    • His regular variant has great HP at 50, fantastic Atk and Def at 39 and 40, respectively, above average Res at 33, but his Spd is a pitiful 17. Fortunately for him, this is mitigated by Wary Fighter in his base kit as a playable character and the Complete Immortality bestowed by the Múspellflame seal as a storyline boss.
    • His Pirate variant has outstanding Atk at 45 and Def at 44, great Res at 36, and good HP at 45, but poor Spd at 16. Combined with his Sea-Sear Lance's Damage Reduction and Damage-Increasing Debuff, his Def/Res Ideal 4 giving him up to +9 Def/Res and Surtr's Portent giving him +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res and inflicting -5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to the nearest foes within 4 spaces of him, he's going to be difficult to take down, and with Crafty Fighter decelerating his foe's special buildup and granting him a guaranteed follow-up attack if they initiate combat against Pirate Surtr, he will be hitting back hard whenever he counterattacks.
  • Mr. Fanservice: His Pirate variant shows off his bare chest, and muscles, showing just how well-toned his body is, which makes him all the more attractive despite being the tyrannical ruler of Múspell. In other words, you can say that he's hot.
  • Mundane Utility: While the combination of Sinmara and Surtr's Menace helps regular Surtr kill his enemies faster, it can also be used to help feed kills to bonus units in Arena or train weaker units in Training Tower.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: He's named after Surtr, the omnicidal king of the fire giants in Norse mythology who wants to bring about The End of the World as We Know It.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: His own sheer power of the flame makes him invulnerable to any weapon or to any Hero. Indeed, in battle, he has his own unique Sacred Seal called Múspellflame that reduces damage taken to nothing. Even without Múspellflame, he comes back after being killed, thanks to the Rite of Flames. It is only after Helbindi's intervention costs him his fuel for the Rite of Flames in Book II Chapter 13 that he is killed for good.
  • Not Quite Dead:
    • After the heroes mess him up in Book II Chapter 10, they start celebrating—prematurely, as he gets right back up fully refreshed.
    • Even after his real death at the end of Book II, he seems to have been recruited by Hel to serve under her, with him resigned to his fate and stating that if there is an equal to the ruler of the dead, it's the Summoner and the Order of Heroes. We never see him actually serve Hel however.
    • He makes a reappearance in Book IV, although he turns out to have been an actualized nightmare brought on by Triandra.
  • Obviously Evil: With his scary armor, the mean look on his face, and his Technicolor Eyes, you can easily tell this guy means bad news.
  • Offing the Offspring: He isn't afraid of killing his children if they are weak, as both his daughters imply in their quotes. He comes very close to taking Laevatein's life in Chapter 13, but Laegjarn intervenes and offers her life instead.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Wants nothing but to incinerate everything there is.
  • Playing with Fire: As the king of Múspell, he has power over fire. His control over the flame allows him to ignore all damage, and he uses Ignis/Bonfire as his special skillnote . He even states that he is like a phoenix after his revival.
  • Power at a Price: One of his regular variant's voiced quotes implies that he paid his soul to receive the power of the Flame of Múspell. Indeed, Surtr's soul was sold to Múspell himself in exchange for inheriting his power.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Burn til nothing remains!" (regular)
"You dare oppose a king?" (regular)
    "Scatter like ash!" (regular)
    "My blood boils!" (regular)
    "I grant you death." (resplendent)
    "Havoc and blaze!" (resplendent)
    "Writhe in agony!" (resplendent)
    "Welcome to hell..." (resplendent)
"I'll take it all!" (Perilous Seas)
    "Wail louder." (Perilous Seas)
"The seas take you!" (Perilous Seas)
"Blood comes in waves!" (Perilous Seas)
  • Promoted to Playable: The "Fire and Ice" Banner made him playable, after the main story of Book II had finished.
  • Purposely Overpowered: With his playable regular version having more stats than a Gen 2 regular melee armored unit and perfectly min-maxed stat distribution for a Mighty Glacier, his default skill kit having Sinmara still equipped and synergizes well with his Secret Art Surtr's Menace, and Sturdy Stance 4 and Wary Fighter making sure he survives attacks from many heroes in the game, he is certainly this, befitting for his Final Boss status of Book II.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Surtr can back up every inch of his royal status with just how fearsome a foe he is.
  • Recurring Element: Surtr is the token 'menacing imperial villain decked with full armor' for Heroes (after the game lacked one in Book I), taking after the likes of Rudolf, Hardin, and Garon.
  • Resurrective Immortality: If anyone kills Surtr, he can just come back to life and continue wreaking havoc thanks to the Rite of Flames. However, it's held back by the fact that it requires constant human sacrifices to keep working, so he intends to sacrifice both Veronica and Ylgr to stoke the flames. With Helbindi's rescue of those two, he is Killed Off for Real at the end of Book II.
  • Sadist: He doesn't simply enjoy killing people—he loves to talk in detail about how painful their deaths are going to be.
  • Secret Art:
    • His regular variant has Surtr's Menace exclusive to him as his C skill, where if there is a foe within 2 spaces of him, he is granted +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res and inflicts -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to all foes within 2 spaces of him at the start of his turn.
    • His Pirate variant has Surtr's Portent exclusive to him as his C skills, where if there is a foe within 4 spaces of him, he is granted +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res and inflicts -5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to the nearest foe at the start of his turn.
  • Sinister Scythe: His "axe" takes the shape of a giant scythe, to highlight his sinister nature.
  • The Social Darwinist: He believes that being the big badass king of Múspell gives him the right to do whatever he wants, and that beating his ass down gives YOU the right to do whatever you want with HIM.
  • Status Buff:
    • His playable regular variant has Steady Stance 4, which gives him +8 Def during combat and inflicts -1 special buildup on the foe per attack during combat if the foe initiates combat. He also has Surtr's Menace, which allows him to give himself +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res at the start of his turn if there is a foe within 2 spaces of him.
    • His Pirate variant has Def/Res Ideal 4, where if the user either has a [Bonus] applied to them or is at full HP at the start combat, they gain +7 Def/Res during combat, and if the user has both of those conditions met, the user gains an additional +2 Def/Res during combat. He also has Surtr's Portent, which allows him to give himself +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res at the start of his turn if there is a foe within 4 spaces of him.
  • Technicolor Eyes: His eyes have red pupils and black sclera.
  • This Cannot Be!: His defeat quote is "Impossible..."
  • Threatening Shark: In Pirate Surtr's special art, he somehow has a shark with flaming cracks and Fireball Eyeballs alongside him.
  • Tin Tyrant: He's decked in full armor, gives off a menacing aura, and wants to conquer the world and/or burn it to ash.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He's the most completely unsympathetic character who can be summoned into the Order of Heroes.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He gleefully fantasizes about how he's going to burn Veronica to death after he's done with Askr. Keep in mind she is a younger teenager. Real classy. Book II Chapters 8 and 12 reveal he plans to use her and Ylgr as Human Sacrifices for the Rite of Flames.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He treats his own daughters as minions, and outright says this about them.
Surtr: My daughters are mine to control. If they outlive their usefulness, it falls to me to extinguish them.

Searing Steel / Kumade Warrior / Bonfire's Blaze / Ninja of Múspell
"I am the blade — the blade my father wields. I will do as I am ordered."

The second princess of Múspell who wields a flaming blade with the same name as hers and keeps her emotions in check.

Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (Japanese), Sarah Anne Williams (English)
Artist: Shigeki Maeshima (regular), kawasumi (New Year's of Fire and Ice), Masatsugu Saitou (Summer Returns), Suzuhito Yasuda (In The Moment)
Class: Sword Fighter (Heroes, regular), Myrmidon (Cipher), Troubadour (New Year's of Fire and Ice), Green Flier (Summer Returns), Axe Dragon (In The Moment)

  • Action Initiative:
    • Her Summer variant has Mirror Impact, where in addition to granting the user +6 Atk and +10 Res, denies any of the foe's follow-up attacks if she initiates combat.
    • Her Ninja variant's Twin Star Axe allows her to attack twice in one round of combat, regardless of which phase it is. She also has Vantage, which allows her to attack first if the foe initiates combat and she is at 75% HP or under at the start of combat.
  • Balance Buff: Update 5.10.0 gives Laevatein for regular Laevatein a refine, where the refine version also gives her +5 Atk/Def during combat if the she is either at 50% HP or above at the start of combat or a [Bonus] is applied to her, and the unique refine allows her to gain +6 Atk/Def at the start of her turn if she is within 2 spaces of an ally, gives her support partner +6 Atk/Def at the start of her turn if they're within 2 spaces of her, and gain an additional +5 Atk/Def during combat if the foe is at 75% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Bifurcated Weapon: The Twin Star Axe her Ninja variant has can be used in two ways, as a single Fuuma Shuriken on a stick, or split into a pair of axes, each with half of the giant ninja star as the blade.
  • Brains and Brawn: The brawn to Laegjarn's brains, though she is somewhat reliant on Laegjarn or other people to make decisions.
  • Cool Sword: Her eponymous sword increases her Atk by 3 and adds all of her stat boosts to her attack. It's basically a melee blade-tome but stronger, grants +3 Atk, and doesn't slow special charge.
  • Counter-Attack: Her Ninja variant has Distant Ward, where it grants the user +5 Atk/Res during combat and can counterattack regardless of range if the foe initiate combat and they wield a Breath, Tome or Staff weapon.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff:
    • Her New Year's variant has Kumade, which inflicts -5 Atk/Spd to the enemy with the highest Def at the start of her turn.
    • Her Ninja variant has Atk/Def Rein, which inflicts -4 Atk/Def to the enemy during combat if they are within 2 spaces of her.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Claims to know a way to increase her strength by "setting herself ablaze" with the Flames of Múspell in Book II. Laegjarn strictly forbids her from using it, saying it can destroy her soul if she's not careful. She nearly goes through with it after Laegjarn dies, but relents when the Askrans reveal that her last wish was for her to live.
  • Dual Wielding: Her Ninja variant wields Twin Star Axe, a pair of axes with the blade shaped as halves of a large shuriken. Fittingly, she can attack twice with it, even if the foe initiates combat.
  • Emotionless Girl: Definitely not the most emotional character, something that is made evident once you meet her the second time. That completely changes when she discovers her sister has died, however.
  • Extreme Doormat: When it comes to her allies, Laevatein has no real concept of individuality, instead doing whatever she is told without hesitation, best shown in Book II. Doesn't matter if it's her sister, her father, or Loki—she just listens and does whatever they demand of her. She does show a bit more emotion around her sister, but even then she is hesitant to think outside the box and largely relies on her.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Laegjarn is the one who commands the army and plans her moves, and if not for her, Laevatein would be much more reckless.
  • Glacier Waif: Laevatein has a smaller, lithe body than Laegjarn, but her stats across all her variations give her high Attack, solid Defense, and middling Speed. Taken to the extreme with her Summer variant, as despite wearing nothing but a bikini, Laevatein's Speed is as low as the armored Arden and Zephiel, but she has high mixed defenses for a mage.
  • Glass Cannon: Her New Year's variant has great Atk, average Spd and Def, but low HP and Res.
  • Holiday Mode: Her New Year's variant wears a kimono while she wields a kumade as a staff, while her Summer variant wears a bikini and wields a buoyboard as a tome and her Ninja variant is dressed as a Ninja and dual wields axes shaped as halves of a large shuriken.
  • Human Weapon: She shares her name with her weapon, and she sees her role as the same.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Even as a Human Weapon to Surtr, she does hold to her sister's advice of retreating if she gets injured in Book II.
  • Last Chance Hit Point: Her Ninja variant has Miracle, which allows the user to survive a lethal attack with 1 HP left if the user has at least more than 1 HP when it activates.
  • Leotard of Power: Her Ninja variant wears a tight white leotard that shows off her toned body.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Regular Laevatein possesses a very high Attack stat of 37 and packs what is effectively a 19 Mt -blade tome sword to let pack deal massive damage into individual hits. Meanwhile, Odd Spd Wave helps her relatively average 31 Speed, and she has a good 34 Defense to let her tank physical hits, with her only low stat being her 22 Resistance.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after Surtr's and/or Loki's weapon in Norse Mythology, often depicted as a Flaming Sword.
  • Mighty Glacier: Her Summer variant has great Atk, good Def, average HP and Res, but terrible Spd, while her Ninja variant has fantastic Atk, great Def, good Res and average HP, but poor Spd.
  • Not So Stoic: Laevatein opens up a bit when she's around her sister Laegjarn. And she completely loses it when Laegjarn dies in Book II.
  • Playing with Fire: Her sword Laevatein emits fire effects when she strikes an enemy with it. She nearly does this herself in Book II Chapter 13, almost using the Flames of Múspell, but Fjorm (fulfilling Laegjarn's last request) stopped her.
  • The Power of Friendship: Laevatein's unique refine for regular Laevatein allows her to gain +6 Atk/Def at the start of her turn if she is within 2 spaces of an ally, and gives her support partner +6 Atk/Def at the start of her turn if they're within 2 spaces of her.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Laevatein..." (regular)
    "I will kill you." (regular)
    "This ends now." (regular)
    "I am the blade." (regular)
"I have laid down Laevatein." (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"I will celebrate." (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"Is this the end?" (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"To the shrine." (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"I have no sword." (Summer's Return)
    "Drown." (Summer's Return)
"So... This is summer." (Summer's Return)
    "I will swim." (Summer's Return)
"I will take your life." (In the Moment)
    "Disappear." (In the Moment)
"Our meeting was fated." (In the Moment)
"I am more than the blade." (In the Moment)
  • Promoted to Playable: She became summonable alongside Laegjarn and Helbindi with the advent of the Generals of Múspell banner.
  • Redemption Demotion: Played with—as a summonable unit, Laevatein has lower base HP, Def and Res than her story boss counterpart. However, she does have slightly higher Atk.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Briefly goes ballistic when Laegjarn dies. She calms down when the Order of Heroes reveals Laegjarn's last request was for her to live.
  • Situational Damage Attack:
    • Her regular variant's Laevatein allows her to gain Atk equal to the total amount of field stat buffs she has during combat, which synergizes with her natural access to Atk/Def Link 3 and Odd Spd Wave 3.
    • Her Ninja variant's Twin Star Axe allows her to gain Atk equal to half of the total amount of field stat buffs she has during combat.
  • Sole Survivor: She is the only character associated with Múspell to survive Book II besides Loki, who seems to have her own agenda. This is no longer the case after the events of the "Ice & Flame" Tempest Trials+.
  • Spare to the Throne: As the only surviving member of Múspell's royal family by the end of Book II, Laevatein is mentioned by Prince Hríd to be taking the throne.
  • Status Buff:
    • Her regular variant has Laevatein, which allows her to gain Atk equal to the total field stat buffs she has during combat, the refine version also gives her +5 Atk/Def during combat if the she is either at 50% HP or above at the start of combat or a [Bonus] is applied to her, and the unique refine allows her to gain +6 Atk/Def at the start of her turn if she is within 2 spaces of an ally, gives her support partner +6 Atk/Def at the start of her turn if they're within 2 spaces of her, and gain an additional +5 Atk/Def during combat if the foe is at 75% HP or above at the start of combat. She also has Atk/Def Link 3, where if she or an ally uses a positioning assist skill including her, she gives herself and that ally +6 Atk/Def, and Odd Spd Wave, which she gives herself and any adjacent allies +6 Spd at the start of odd turns.
    • Her New Year's variant has Earthfire Balm+, which when it activates, she gives all allies +6 Atk/Def. She also has Even Def Wave, which she gives herself and any adjacent allies +6 Def at the start of even turns.
    • Her Summer variant has Def/Res Link 3, where if she or an ally uses a positioning assist skill including her, she gives herself and that ally +6 Def/Res. She also has her Buoyboard give her +4 Atk/Res during combat if she has a stat buff, and Odd Atk Wave, which she gives herself and any adjacent allies +6 Atk at the start of odd turns.
    • Her Ninja variant has Distant Ward, which in addition to allowing her to counterattack the foe, regardless of range, gives her +5 Atk/Res during combat if the foe initiates combat and the foe wields a Breath, Tome, or Staff weapon.
  • Terse Talker: She uses few words when speaking to anyone other than Laegjarn.
  • Training from Hell: From one of her castle quotes, she and her sister used to train all day and night to satisfy their father by being strong, implying that they started at a young age. Any weaker, and she would be killed off by her father.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Her relation to Surtr, alongside her older sister Laegjarn.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Compared to Laegjarn, she relies on raw strength alone in combat and greatly benefits from stat buffs due to her sword, but outside of combat she lacks social and tactical skills.
  • Unusual Weapon Mounting: Ninja Laevatein carries an extra sword in addition to her axes; instead of being strapped to her back, the sheath is tied to her ponytails.

Sheathed Steel / Flame Ascendant / New Experiences / Burning Sun
"Just remember this... My father is flame itself. Everything will burn. Until nothing remains. He is the leader of Múspell, and I follow his orders. That is all."

The eldest princess of Múspell and Laevatein's older sister. She leads Múspell's army with honor and dignity, and is very protective of Laevatein. In mid-November 2021, she has a variant released as an Ascended Hero.

Voiced by: Yukari Tamura (Japanese), Abby Trott (English, credited as Alicia Stratten)
Artist: Shigeki Maeshima (regular, Summer Returns), Daisuke Izuka (New Year's of Fire and Ice), PenekoR (Ascended), cuboon (Wyvern Ninja)
Class: Sword Dragon (Heroes, regular), Lance Cavalier (New Year's of Fire and Ice), Blue Flier (Summer Returns), Bow Cavalier (Ascended), Blue Bow Flier (Wyvern Ninja)

  • Achilles' Heel: Regular and New Year Laegjarn has fairly high stats—save for her Res, which is downright terrible. Because of this, magic users and dragons pose a massive threat to her. Her Summer variant, while being a Glass Cannon, is also a Flying unit, and so is also weak against weapons that deal effective damage against Flying units, especially bows.
  • Action Initiative:
    • The unique refine for Regular Laegjarn's Níu, in addition to giving +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat, allows her to ignore skills that deny any of her follow-up attacks and guarantee the foe's follow-up attacks if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
    • Her Summer variant's unrefined Worldsea Wave allows her to have any of her follow-up attacks go before the foe can counterattack if she initiates combat and she is at 50% HP or above at the start of combat, the refined version lower the HP threshold to 25% HP or above at the start of combat, and the unique refine allows her to ignore any skills that prevent any of her follow-up attacks if she has 10 or more Spd than her foe and she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
    • Her Ascended variant's Flame of Múspell, in addition to giving her +6 Atk/Spd and additional Atk/Spd/Def/Res equal to 50% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has during combat, allows her to ignore any skills that deny any of her follow-up attacks if she has a [Bonus] active on her and the total field stat buffs she and her foe has is 10 or more.
    • Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm's Flamefrost Bow allows them to attack twice in one round, and their Atk Smoke 4 grants them a status effect that prevents any of the foe's follow-up attacks after combat.
  • Adaptational Curves: Subverted. Unlike several characters who are drawn in Heroes or Cipher with greater proportions, like Sophia, Laegjarn's original and summer art are both drawn by her original character designer and artist, meaning the large breasts and butt on display as part of her summer alt are her actual curves, but just covered up by her usual armor.
  • Affably Evil: Even as the leader of Múspell's army and a conqueror, she repeatedly states that she is only following her father's orders. Unlike her father, she treats Nifl captives with respect and care, shows great concern for her little sister Laevatein, to the point that she sacrifices herself to Múspell's flames in order to protect her. Her dying words clearly reinforce this, as they express her regret over the war against Nifl and how different things could have been if none of this ever happened in the first place.
  • Anti-Debuff: Her Ascended variant has Rouse Atk/Spd 4, where, in addition to granting the her +6 Atk/Spd at the start of her turn if she's not adjacent to an ally, allows her to gain [Null Panic] as well, which nullifies the field stat buff into debuff the [Panic] status inflicts if she has it on her.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Her Ascended variant and Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm has Moonbow, which allows her to ignore 30% of the foe's defenses when it triggers.
  • Author Appeal: Laegjarn's artist actually went the extra mile and drew extra art of Summer Laegjarn lying on her chest for a Twitter post in addition to her official art for the game.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Regular Laegjarn's Níu's unrefined effect can really ruin the day of an enemy with a lot of field buffs, but it requires the enemy to have field buffs in the first place. AI enemies that (successfully) make use of field buffs on such a large scale are rare in PvE maps, and half of player armies in Arena opt for the more reliable combat-only buffs that don't trigger Níu's effect. As such, she's best relegated to defense teams for Arena and Aether Raids if one opts to use her regular sword. This becomes averted when Níu is refined, letting Laegjarn use her own bonuses alongside her foe's.
  • Back from the Dead: The end of "Ice & Flame 1" reveals she has been resurrected as Múspell's (as in the god Múspell, not the kingdom) champion, and that Fjorm must kill her again in order to escape her contract with Nifl. According to Múspell himself, she's been dead for about a year.
  • Balance Buff:
    • Regular Laegjarn received a refine to her Níu in 5.8.0, reworking the weapon's effect to granting Laegjarn a bonus to all her stats based on 40% of the total bonuses on both her and her foe, up to a maximum of 10, making it much more powerful and reliable, as Laegjarn can now use her own bonuses. Its unique refine also grants Laegjarn an additional +4 to all her stats if she is at 25% HP or more, as well as granting her the normally infantry-exclusive Null Follow-up effect.
    • Summer Laegjarn received a refine to her Worldsea Wave in 6.8.0, lowering the HP threshold of having her follow-up attacks go before the foe can counterattack if she initiates combat to 25% HP or above at the start of combat as well as grant her +5 Atk/Spd during combat under the same conditions, and the unique refine gives her Atk/Spd during combat equal to 40% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has, +5, up to +10 Atk/Spd, totaling up to +15 Atk/Spd during combat, and ignores skills that prevents any of her follow-up attacks if she has 10 or more Spd than her foe during combat, all which activates if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: Laegjarn's response to her foe's field stat buffs is to say "Mine's bigger":
    • Her regular variant's unrefined Níu's effect copying half of the foe's total buffs and applying them to her own in-combat stats. An enemy with all four stats equally buffed will find that Níu's effect effectively gives Laegjarn double of what they have, on top of whatever buffs she already had. Her refined Níu later reworks this into using 40% of both her and her foe's field stat buffs, which makes it considerably more reliable at the cost of a cap at +10 Atk/Spd/Def/Res.
    • The unique refine of her Summer variant's Worldsea Wave uses 40% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has for her Atk/Spd instead, with a +5 modifier, up to +10 Atk/Spd, totaling up to +15 Atk/Spd during combat, but only if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
    • Her Ascended variant's Flame of Múspell allows her to gain Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat equal to half of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has, up to +12 Atk/Spd/Def/Res, but only if she has a [Bonus] applied to her during combat.
    • Ninja Duo Laegjarn's Flamefrost Bow has them to gain Atk/Def/Res during combat equal to 70% of the highest total field stat buff of the foe or an ally within 2 spaces of them.
  • Benevolent Boss: She treats her allies well, unlike her father. She even lies to her father about Helbindi's death after his last failure in Book II Chapter 12, as she states that he has no more reason to fight due to Surtr slaughtering his village after his initial failure.
  • Big Sister Instinct: There isn't a single thing she wouldn't give up to ensure her younger sister's safety. That includes her life.
  • Brains and Brawn: The brains to Laevatein's and Surtr's brawn, acting as the tactician of Múspell's army and keeping Laevatein in check. Her New Year incarnation even admits that she isn't as physically strong as Laevatein and Surtr are.
  • Contralto of Strength: Has a deep voice befitting Surtr's most dangerous general.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm's Seal Def 4 inflicts the Inverted variant on the foe, where they inflict -1 special buildup on the foe per attack if the foe has a field stat debuff on their Def during combat.
  • Cool Big Sis: To her younger sister Laevatein. Not only did she tell Laevatein to retreat if she gets injured, when Laevatein considers using a power that could end up destroying her soul, Laegjarn has her promise to never use it. When her father orders Laevatein to do so, she herself does that instead to spare her from the same fate. She even threatens Loki if she ever lays a finger on her in Loki's Flames.
  • Cool Sword: Her regular variant has the sword Níu, which give +3 Spd and unrefined adds 50% of her foe's total field stat buffs to her Atk/Spd/Def/Res during battle, refined gives Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat equal to 40% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has, and the unique refine allows her to gain +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat and ignore skills that deny any of her follow-up attacks and guarantee the foe's follow-up attacks if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: The largest weakness for Regular Laegjarn's Níu, regardless of it being refined or not, is that it relies on the field buffs for the main effect to work. The unrefined version relies on the foe having visible buffs for it to work, while the refined version uses both her and her foes visible buffs to calculate the effect. Should either the foe or Laegjarn have no field buffs active, or those field buffs get negated by something like a Lull, she becomes fairly weak due to the effects simply not working, and many other units of her typing outperform her. If all goes right though, her weapon gives a massive amount of stats to work with, letting her punch well above her stats.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff:
    • Her regular variant has Chill Atk 3, which inflicts -7 Atk on the enemy with the highest Atk at the start of her turn.
    • Her New Year's variant has Wagasa, which inflicts -7 Def on the enemy with the highest Def at the start of her turn. She also has Chill Res 3, which inflicts -7 Res on the enemy with the highest Res at the start of her turn.
    • Her Ascended variant has A/D Far Trace 3, which inflicts -3 Atk/Def on the foe during combat.
    • Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm have Seal Def 4, where it inflicts -4 Def on the foe during combat, and inflicts further -7 Def plus the value of the active field stat debuff on the foe's Def, with a minimum of 0, on the foe during combat if the foe does not possess a skill that neutralizes field stat buffs, and inflicts -7 Def on the foe after combat. This means that she will at least inflict -4 Def on the foe during combat, and a minimum of -11 Def on the foe during combat if the foe does not have an effect that ignores field stat debuffs on their Def.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Near the end of Book II she offers herself to the Flames of Múspell to gain more power and dies as a result.
  • Discard and Draw: Her Regular variant's Níu trades granting Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat equal to 50% of the total field stat buffs the foe has for granting Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat equal to 40% of her and her foe's total field stat buffs, up to +10. Unrefined it allows her to potentially go more than +10 Atk/Spd/Def/Res, especially if the foe has +6 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on them where she gains +12 Atk/Spd/Def/Res, but the refined version allows her to also benefit from her own field stat buffs as well, with +6 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to her stats alone already gives her +9 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat from those field stat buffs, and so no longer makes her reliant on her foe having buffs to make her powerful.
  • The Dragon: Acts as the second-in-command of Surtr and Múspell.
  • Dragon Ancestry: Like her father, she has the blood of the Flame Dragon Múspell in her veins. In her regular variant's 4+ stat level up quote, however, she is trying to contain it.
  • Dragon Rider: Her Regular and Summer variants and Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm rides a wyvern into battle.
  • Eye Scream: Near the end of Book II, the Flames of Múspell burn her eyes out of her sockets.
  • Extra Turn: Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm's Duo Skill allows them to act again once per map if they already entered combat during the same turn.
  • Final Boss: Of the "Ice & Flame Finale" Tempest Trials+ event, in her Ascended form.
  • Fireball Eyeballs: Eyeball in this case, but her Ascended variant has her left eyeball be burning aflame, just like her father.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: She's the commander of Múspell's army, and the one who makes sure Laevatein doesn't do anything too foolish.
  • Glass Cannon: Her Summer variant has high Spd and good Atk, but average HP and low defenses.
  • Heel–Face Turn: As the player's unit, when she levels up, she calls herself the general of your army.
    • She turns good in the main story at end of "Ice & Flame Final".
  • Hidden Buxom: Zigzagged. She normally wears full-body armor, but her breastplate is fairly large and well-defined. Her damaged portrait reveals the sides of her breasts as she has her arm beneath them, but they are still largely covered. Her damaged portrait in her New Year's outfit, however, shows VERY sizable cleavage, indicating that she completely fills out her breastplate, rather than it being just for show. Confirmed outright with her Summer outfit, having her in a swimsuit that confirms she is quite stacked. Her Summer variant fully exposes her ample cleavage - under all that armor, she's as busty as Loki! She even lampshades this in one of her quotes, noting with frustration that her appearance in the swimsuit strongly resembles Loki.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: Her Ascended variant has A/D Far Trace, which, in addition to allowing her to inflict -3 Atk/Def on the foe during combat, gives her [Canto (Rem.)], which allows her to move spaces equal to the remainder of the spaces she did not use yet after taking an action once per turn.
  • Holiday Mode: Her New Year's variant wears a kimono while wielding a Wagasanote , while her Summer variant wears a swimsuit.
  • Horse Archer: Her Ascended variant.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: At the beginning of "Ice & Flame 5", she tells Fjorm that while she doesn't want to fight her, she's lost the ability to resist, or even to kill herself.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her Summer variant uses Worldsea Wave, which is a dagger-like device to create waves to attack her foes. Said device give her +3 Spd, allows her to have any of her follow-up attacks go before the foe can counterattack if she initiates combat and she is at 50% HP or above at the start of combat, the refined version lowering that to 25% HP or above at the start of combat as well as grant +5 Atk/Spd during combat under the same conditions, and the unique refine gives her Atk/Spd during combat equal to 40% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has, +5, up to +10 Atk/Spd, totalling up to +15 Atk/Spd during combat, and ignores skills that prevents any of her follow-up attacks if she has 10 or more Spd than her foe during combat, all which activates if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • I Work Alone: Her Ascended variant has Rouse Atk/Spd 4, where if she is not adjacent to an ally, she gains +6 Atk/Spd and [Null Panic] at the start of her turn.
  • Last Request: As she dies near the end of Book II, she asks the Order of Heroes to save Laevatein from suffering the same fate as her. They successfully honor her request.
  • Lightning Bruiser:
    • With 32 Atk and 36 Spd, Regular Laegjarn hits hard and fast, while her 41 HP and 36 Def allow her to eat physical hits from most units. With Níu's unrefined ability to copy half of the buffs of anyone she is facing, she'll become even stronger if she faces a buffed enemy. The only weak point is her Res, which is a measly 17.
    • Her New Year's variant is a Downplayed example, as she has good Spd and Def, average Atk, but below average HP and poor Res.
    • Her Ascended variant has fantastic Atk at 49 and Spd at 41, average HP at 40 and Def at 30, but poor Res at 18.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Laegjarn was the chest that held Laevatein. Fittingly, she is shown to be protective of her younger sister in the story.
    • Níu is Old Norse for nine, referencing the nine locks on Laegjarn.
  • Male Gaze: Unusually for such a reserved character, her neutral art for when she appears in a bikini has her raising her arms above her head to deliberately emphasize her large breasts. She apparently realizes the emphasis the bikini places on them, as one of her quotes as her frustrated that she resembles Loki in the swimsuit.
  • Mighty Glacier: Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm have outstanding Atk at 44, great Res at 38 and Def at 37 and average HP at 40, but low Spd at 19, which is further amplified with their Flamefrost Bow granting +5 Def/Res and inflicting -8 Spd.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: By telling Helbindi Surtr killed everyone in Helbindi's hometown, she ended up spurring Helbindi into betraying Surtr at a crucial moment and taking away his immortality, meaning Laegjarn is indirectly responsible for Surtr's ultimate defeat in Book II.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: Despite being the daughter of Surtr, she is an honorable general who treats her enemies with dignity and respect. Fjorm informs the Order of Heroes that Laegjarn has treated the people of Nifl humanely, and Laegjarn was sincere when she offered to spare the Order of Heroes if they surrendered. She's also perfectly willing to give Helbindi a second chance behind Surtr and Loki's backs, as she understands his motivation to fight for his sister.
  • No-Sell:
    • The unique refine for Regular Laegjarn's Níu allows her to ignore skills that deny any of her follow-up attacks and guarantee the foe's follow-up attacks if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
    • The unique refine for
  • Only Friend: A base conversation with Ascended Laegjarn reveals that she once thought of her sister Laevatein as her "sole ally," although she says in another conversation that she has come to consider Fjorm a friend.
  • Out-Gambitted: She fails to realize in time that the last movements of the Order of Heroes were all done so they could lure and defeat her in a place with disadvantageous terrain for her wyvern (not that it stops her in actual gameplay).
  • Playing with Fire: Her Níu emits fire effects when she hits her opponents. In Chapter 13 of Book II, she ends up using the Flames of Múspell, and it costs her her life.
  • The Power of Friendship: Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm's Flamefrost Bow allows them to gain Atk/Def/Res during combat equal to 70% of the highest total field stat buff value of either the target foe or any ally within 2 spaces of them. This means that if an ally (or foe) has +6 Atk/Spd/Def/Res, they gain +16 Atk/Def/Res during combat.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Her Ascended variant has her hair grow beyond the middle of her back, when she is made champion for Múspell.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "No pity." (regular)
    "Resist and perish." (regular)
    "Better me than her." (regular)
"This is how it's got to be." (regular)
"In Níu's stead, strike!" (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"Celebrate and share joy!" (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"To a new future!" (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"A good year, I trust!" (New Year's of Fire and Ice)
"I will show you how I swim." (Summer's Return)
"In summer, the ocean!" (Summer's Return)
"Sink beneath the waves!" (Summer's Return)
"The sun! How it shines!" (Summer's Return)
    "Together!" (Wyvern Ninja, with Fjorm)
    "Your life..." (Wyvern Ninja)
Fjorm: "is ours to take!" (Wyvern Ninja)
    "You've underestimated us." (Wyvern Ninja)
Fjorm: "We have you now!" (Wyvern Ninja)
  • Promoted to Playable: She became summonable alongside Laevatein and Helbindi with the advent of the Generals of Múspell banner.
  • Proud Beauty: Surprisingly seems to invoke this in her Summer outfit's neutral art - she raises her arms above her head to show off her physique. She's less excited about the outfit in her quotes, though still appreciates her sister complimenting how she looks in it.
  • Recurring Element: Takes the recurring role of a Noble Top Enforcer of the opposing army, similar to Camus, Ishtar, the Reed brothers and Grado's Selena before her.
  • Redemption Demotion: As a summonable unit, Regular Laegjarn has slightly lower base HP and Def than as an enemy.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Her Summer variant makes it clear that she doesn't like wearing the attire she has on.
"I never even consider dressing like this. Do I put you in mind of Loki?"
  • Resurrected for a Job: The reason why Múspell revived her in the "Ice & Flame" Tempest Trials+ series is because he needed someone who had taken on his power to act as his champion for his clash with Nifl.
  • Sacred Bow and Arrows:
    • Her Ascended variant wields the bow Flame of Múspell, which gives her -1 maximum special cooldown, deals effective damage against Flying units, and if she has a [Bonus] applied to her she gains +6 Atk/Spd and additional Atk/Spd/Def/Res equal to 50% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has, up to +12 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat, and allows her to ignore any skills that deny any of her follow-up attacks if that total sum is at 10 or more.
    • Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm wield the Flamefrost Bow, which gives them -1 maximum special cooldown, deals effective damage against Flying units, grants +5 Def/Res but inflicts -8 Spd, allows them to attack twice in one round, and grants them Atk/Def/Res during combat equal to 70% of the total highest field stat buff value of either the foe or an ally within 2 spaces of them.
  • Sherlock Scan: She is able to make very accurate assumptions of her enemies' plans using just a few clues and anticipating their most logical action.
    • When she finds the decoy footprints the Order of Heroes made to try to throw her off, she realizes they're fake because of how visible the footprints are, pointing out that if the Order of Heroes was trying to escape her, they would not leave such an obvious trail that would lead her to them.
    • She figures out that the Order of Heroes is trying to discover a way to defeat Surtr based on how determined they are, noting that they would not be so resolute in their actions if they weren't certain there was a way they could win the war, which can only be accomplished by defeating Surtr.
    • She figures out in Loki's Flames that Loki is not loyal to Surtr, only assisting him to aid her own purposes, and that Loki is a person of chaos, operating capriciously as she goes.
  • Sideboob: Her Summer variant wears a bikini small enough to see the shape of her cleavage when viewed from the side.
  • Status Buff:
    • Her New Year's variant has Def Tactic, which gives all allies within 2 spaces of her +6 Def if they currently do not share more than one of the same movement type in the team, including New Year's Laegjarn herself.
    • Her Summer variant has Swift Sparrow 3, which gives her +6 Atk and +7 Spd during combat if she initiates combat. She also has Hone Fliers, which gives all adjacent flying allies +6 Atk/Spd at the start of her turn. Her refined Worldsea Wave gives +5 Atk/Spd during combat if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat and the unique refine gives her Atk/Spd during combat equal to 40% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has, +5, up to +10 Atk/Spd, totaling up to +15 Atk/Spd during combat, if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
    • Her Ascended variant has Flame of Múspell, which gives +6 Atk/Spd and additional Atk/Spd/Def/Res equal to 50% of the total field stat buffs she and her foe has, up to +12 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat. She also has Swift Sparrow 3, which gives her +6 Atk and +7 Spd during combat if she initiates combat, and Rouse Atk/Spd 4, which if she is not adjacent to an ally she gain +6 Atk/Spd and the [Null Panic] status effect at the start of her turn.
    • Ninja Duo Laegjarn & Fjorm have the Flamefrost Bow, which grants them Atk/Def/Res during combat equal to 70% of the total highest field stat buff value of either the foe or an ally within 2 spaces of them. They also have Atk/Res Catch 4, where it grants them +7 Atk/Res during combat if the foe either is at full HP or has a [Penalty] inflicted on them, and an additional +2 Atk/Res during combat if both conditions are met, and Atk Smoke 4, where it grants them +6 Def/Res and a status effect that prevents any of the foe's follow-up attacks after combat.
  • Super Mode: Her Ascended variant, as she has been empowered by her god Múspell.
  • Take Me Instead: When Surtr orders Laevatein to sacrifice herself to the Flames of Múspell to gain power in Book II, Laegjarn takes her place instead as a last-ditch effort to save her, knowing that she will die doing so.
  • The Strategist: She is a keen strategist in regards to warfare. When the Order of Heroes tried to trick her by creating false tracks in the snow while covering their real tracks, she quickly sees through their ploy by noticing how obvious the fake tracks are.
  • Training from Hell: From one of Laevatein's castle quotes, she and her sister used to train all day and night to be strong and survive Múspell's harsh environment, implying that they started at a young age, due to her father not tolerating any weaklings.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Her relation to Surtr, alongside her younger sister Laevatein.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Self-admitted in her New Year's confessional, as unlike her sister and father, she does not possess raw strength, so instead she relies on cunning and tactics to win her battles, and is actually reflected through the three of their weapons and stats.

Savage Scourge / Seaside Scourge
"Of all the rotten luck... Did you filth really come all the way here just for me to kill you? Guess you were hoping to be slaughtered by Helbindi, and nobody else would do!"

A rough and tough general from Múspell who rose to his position from nothing due to his talent in battle. Has an odd bond with Ylgr, a princess of his enemy kingdom.

Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai (Japanese), Dave B. Mitchell (credited as Raymond K. Essel) (English)
Artist: Shigeki Maeshima (regular), Meka (Summer Returns)
Class: Axe Fighter (Heroes, regular), Sword Fighter (Summer Returns)

  • Action Initiative: The unique refine for his regular variant's Býleistr, in addition to granting him +5 Atk and inflicting -5 on the foe during combat, allows him to deny any of the foe's follow-up attacks if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • All for Nothing: In Book II Chapter 12, Laegjarn informs the poor guy that after his initial failure against the Order of Heroes, Surtr burned down the slums and killed his sister to make an example of him.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He rose to the rank of general due to his talent in battle.
  • Balance Buff: His regular variant's Býleistr received a refine in update 5.11.0, which the refine version gives +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to himself and any allies within 2 spaces of him if either at the start of odd turns or there is a foe within 4 spaces of him at the start of his turn, grants him +5 Atk and inflicts -5 Atk on the foe during combat if either it's an odd turn or the foe is at 75% HP or above at the start of combat, and the unique refine allows him to gain an additional +5 Atk and inflict a further -5 Atk on the foe during combat as well as allowing him to deny any of the foe's follow-up attacks if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He fights to help out his family and doesn't hurt Ylgr because she reminds him of his little sister Menja. His sibling instincts are probably the reason he rescues both Veronica and Ylgr from being offered to the Rite of Flames in Book II Chapter 13, since he lost his entire village, including Menja, after his initial failure.
  • Blood Knight: If his description is anything to go by.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: His Regular variant has Infantry Pulse, where at the start of turn 1, all Infantry allies with less HP than the user get -1 special cooldown. He also inflicts the Inverted variant with Guard, which inflicts -1 special buildup on the foe per attack if he is at 80% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Covered in Scars: He has plenty of scars covering his body to prove how tough he is. His Summer variant reveals that he predominantly has them on his forearms and chest, with a huge gash front and center on the latter.
  • Defiant to the End: When King Surtr, having discovered Helbindi's betrayal asks if he has any last words, Helbindi replies as follows.
Helbindi: Something to say? Yeah, I think I do. What you got coming to you... you deserve it.
  • Determinator: Is determined to kill the Order of Heroes to defend his sister in Book II. Unfortunately, after his initial failure, Surtr burned down the slums and killed his sister, according to Laegjarn.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As shown in the Seeds of Fódlan Forging Bonds event, even he thinks Felix is being way too much of an asshole to Dedue.
  • Face of a Thug: Between his less than flattering face and scars, he looks every bit the dumb brute, but he's actually rather nice beyond his rough exterior.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At the end of Book II, once his sister has been killed and Surtr has no more leverage over him, Helbindi betrays him to save Ylgr and Veronica.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He sacrifices himself to save Veronica and Ylgr at the end of Book II.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: He has a very low view of himself, to the point where he doesn't believe he deserves to go to the same afterlife as his little sister.
  • Holiday Mode: His Summer variant wears swim trunks while wielding a beach shovel.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his rough attitude, he's surprisingly compassionate, as he only works for Surtr so he can support his family. When Ylgr refuses to eat, he expresses concern for Ylgr under the guise that Ylgr needs to be strong enough to get revenge.
  • Killed Offscreen: Implied to be his fate, after Surtr catches up to him in Book II, Chapter 13.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When he's beaten by the Order of Heroes, he chooses to retreat for the sake of his sister Menja.
  • Mighty Glacier:
    • With at default 44 HP, 35 Atk, and 35/31 defenses, Helbindi can both absorb and dish out a lot of damage. However, he has only 18 Spd, which makes him very susceptible to enemy doubles.
    • His Summer variant follows suite with a stronger statline, where while his default HP and Spd remains the same as his regular variant, he has 36 Atk, and 37/33 defenses.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: In Book II after Surtr kills everyone in Helbindi's hometown, including his sister, for failing him, Helbindi gets back at Surtr by helping Veronica and Ylgr escape before they're sacrificed for the Rite of Flames, preventing Surtr from restoring his immortality and allowing the Order of Heroes to kill him.
  • Nightmare Face: Tends to sneer or otherwise make hideous expressions, making him appear uglier then he really is.
  • Odd Friendship: While he would not like to admit it, Helbindi gets along well with the Nifl princess Ylgr, as she reminds him of his younger sister, Menja.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: His name is just one letter off from "Helblindi", and his axe is called "Býleistr". They were both brothers of Loki in Norse Mythology.
  • Pet the Dog: It becomes clear he isn't really evil when we see him treat Ylgr nicely.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Ha haha!" (regular)
    "Just die!" (regular)
"Out of my way, filth!" (regular)
    "Enough of you!" (regular)
    "Hotter'n Múspell!" (Summer's Return)
"Can't take the heat? Heh." (Summer's Return)
"Last thing you'll look at." (Summer's Return)
    "Eat sand!" (Summer's Return)
  • Promoted to Playable: He became summonable alongside Laevatain and Laegjarn with the advent of the Generals of Múspell banner.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: He's only fighting to support his family. Beyond that, while putting on a tough face, he doesn't seem to have any ill will towards the heroes. After the razing of his village and the death of his little sister, he swears vengeance against Surtr, liberating both Veronica and Ylgr in the process.
  • Redemption Demotion: He has slightly higher stats as a boss than as a playable unit in every regard except for Atk.
  • Redemption Equals Death: In Book II he goes out saving Veronica and Ylgr from the Rite of Flames, by attacking Surtr by himself.
  • Red Herring: At first glance, he looks like a bog-standard Kempf archetype. However, his interactions with Ylgr prove he's not so bad.
  • Self-Made Man: He lived in poverty, but rose to his position due to his prowess in battle.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: While Helbindi normally looks like a thug, he can look quite hunky when he's not sneering and not wearing his warrior outfit. Best seen in his Summer variant, which exposes his extremely muscular and chiseled physique.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: He swears much more than the other characters in the game.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He plays a brief yet crucial role in Surtr's downfall in Book II by helping Veronica and Ylgr escape before they're sacrificed to the Rite of Flames, stopping Surtr from replenishing his immortality and giving the Order of Heroes the chance to kill him for good.
  • Theme Naming: Helblindi and Býleistr are the Jötunn brothers of Loki.
  • Status Buff:
    • His Býleistr gives himself and any adjacent allies +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res at the start of odd turns. The refine version gives +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to himself and any allies within 2 spaces of him if either at the start of odd turns or there is a foe within 4 spaces of him at the start of his turn, grants him +5 Atk and inflicts -5 Atk on the foe during combat if either it's an odd turn or the foe is at 75% HP or above at the start of combat, and the unique refine allows him to gain an additional +5 Atk and inflict a further -5 Atk on the foe during combat as well as allowing him to deny any of the foe's follow-up attacks if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally.
    • His Summer variant has Rally Atk/Def+, where he gives an ally +6 Def/Res. He also has his Sandfort Spade, which gives him +4 Atk/Def during combat if he has a field stat buff.
  • Uncertain Doom: At the end of Book II, he is last seen challenging Surtr alone, and is presumed to have died fighting him. However, as he's not mentioned after that scene it's not confirmed.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: While he does wears a cape and pauldron, nothing else covers up his upper body.
