Characters featured in Taylor Swift's 2020 album 'evermore.'

“Champagne Problems” narrator

  • Broken Bird: It's implied her own mental health issues led her to refuse her boyfriend's proposal.
"She would've made such a lovely bride, what a shame she's fucked in her head..."
  • It's Not You, It's Me: Makes it clear that it’s her problems, not her love interest's, that prompt their the break-up.
"Love slipped beyond your reaches and I couldn’t give a reason"
  • Insecure Love Interest: Believes she let her boyfriend down and that he can find better.
"But you’ll find the real thing instead...you won't remember all my champagne problems...”

Dorothea

The subject of "Dorothea" and the narrator of "Tis the Damn Season."

  • Ambiguously Gay: Her love interest is of an Ambiguous Gender, and some of Dorothea's discomfort in her small town and rebelliousness against her mother could possibly be due to her being gay in a conservative and unaccepting environment.
  • Differing Priorities Breakup: Split with her high school sweetheart due to chasing her celebrity dreams.
  • High-School Sweethearts / New Old Flame: With the narrator of "Dorothea."
  • Small Town Boredom: Towards her hometown and why she left it for LA.
“This place is the same as it ever was….But you don't like it that way...”
  • The One That Got Away: To the narrator of “Dorothea” who still holds a candle for her years later.
  • Tomboy: Implied to be as a child, with references to skipping prom, messing around in the park, and rebelling against her mom’s pageant schemes.
  • Tsundere: She's rather dismissive and borderline mean to her love interest, but she has moments of genuine vulnerability and occasionally shows her true affection for them.

“No Body, No Crime” narrator

  • Best Friend: To Este, the subject of the song.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Seemingly only an unassuming side character in the story but ultimately avenges Este by killing her husband.
  • The Cassandra: Is certain Este’s husband killed her, but can’t prove it or persuade the authorities.
  • Determinator: She’ll make Este's husband pay for whatever he did no matter what.
“But I ain't letting up until the day I died...I wasn’t letting up until the day he died.”
  • Undying Loyalty: To Este.

Este

  • Ambiguous Situation: Is she the narrator of "right where you left me" or not?
  • Extreme Doormat: She was hinted to be this when she was alive, with her only plan is only to "think" about calling her husband out on his affair.
  • Properly Paranoid: She suspects her husband is cheating due to suspicious charges on their bank account and the unfamiliar shade of lipstick left on his mouth. She's proven right in the worst way possible.
  • Unfinished Business: If she is indeed the narrator of "right where you left me," it seems she's confined to Earth because she was betrayed and murdered. It's unknown if her Best Friend killing her husband set her free.
