*finger snap* *finger snap* note
  • Back from the Dead: If they should die by the hand of another Addams, they're likely to return to life within a short time (usually within three to five hours).
  • Creepy Good: They're good people and a very loving family, but they still have rather creepy and disturbing habits and pastimes.
  • Death Is Cheap: Provided they're not permanently killed by violent means (which is rare for an Addams), they will not die by natural means. Should they become too old to function, they can enter a deep sleep at the Addams Family's graveyard. This magical sleep resembles death and will slowly (over the course of years, decades, and centuries) recover the vigor of youth. It's become a family tradition to occasionally enter the Addams cemetery with shovel in hand to "wake the dead".
  • Family Curse: If legends are to be believed, the Addams Family take their name from "Adam's Family". The implication being they are the descendants of Seth, the third son of Adam and Eve. Many generations after Lilith cursed the sons of Adam, pitting Cain and Abel against each other, the long-suffering immortal Adam came upon two sons of his bloodline who were warring with one another over their inheritance. Distraught over this revelation, Adam petitioned a powerful being (wether God, an angel, or one of the Endless — sources vary) to intervene. The result was the sons and daughters of Adam's line were prevented from taking the life of their own kin, but upon hearing of this, Lilith placed her own curse on the family making them unnatural and unsettling, resulting in the family often dying at the hands of others. The nature of this curse claims to explain the Addams' interest in death and despair, as well as the family's abundance of genetic abnormalities.

    Gomez Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gomez_addams_eearth_27.jpg

Gomez is a master swordsman, prone to smoking cigars and dressing in flamboyant attire. Possessed with a passion for life that is only exceeded by his eternal love for Morticia, which he expresses constantly without hesitation or concern for who might see his wanton affection. A sickly and frail boy in his youth, Gomez's health and luck took a sudden shift the day he met Morticia and he had his signature zeal for life ever since.

  • Aerith and Bob: He's the only member of the family who has what can be considered a normal name. Although, 'Gomez' is usually a surname.
  • Aroused by Their Voice: Gomez is aroused whenever his wife speaks any language other than English.
  • Blade Enthusiast: Gomez is an avid fencer. He is also known to be a highly-skilled knife-thrower.
  • Cigar Chomper: As seen in the picture, he enjoys his cigars.
  • Composite Character: He's based on a mix of Raul Julia's cinematic and John Astin's classical performances.
  • Dancing Is Serious Business: Gomez is a talented dancer. He is seen engaging in sensual performances with his wife Morticia. Most of the Addams must learn a Vlatavan ritual dance as a rite-of-passage known as the Mamushka. It's a form of mazurka using blades.
  • Dashing Hispanic: Half-Castilan on his mother's side and he's certainly dashing and charming, if eccentric.
  • Family Man: Gomez loves nothing more than his family. Endanger them at your own risk. Slights or insults delivered to Gomez by his family tend to cause him great distress, sometimes to the point of becoming physically ill (possibly a form of hypochondria?) until some sort of amicable reconciliation resolves the matter sufficiently.
  • Happily Married: He and Morticia are very much in love and the passion in their marriage has not diminished at all.
  • Keet: He is very energetic and upbeat.
  • Kissing Cousins: He and Morticia are actually second cousins, but very much in love.
  • Manly Facial Hair: His signature Pornstache, and he's as manly as he's dashing and eccentric.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Gomez not only inherited his father's legendary fortune, but he also serves as the custodian to the assets of many other members of the Addams clan which he invests in a variety of holdings. Gomez's investments appear to be guided more by whimsy than strategy, but his luck rarely fails him. Gomez owns several odd businesses around the world, including a crocodile farm, a salt mine, a tombstone factory, and a uranium mine.
  • Opposites Attract: He's a Large Ham while his wife is The Stoic, and they couldn't be more in love with each other.
  • Raised by Grandparents: After the death of his parents and older brother, he and his remaining brothers Fester and Pancho were raised by their witch grandmother Eudora.
  • Royal Rapier: He's an avid fencer and he wields Deuteronomy, which has been passed down the Addams' family for many generations.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Wears a fancy stripped suit, which fits with his eccentric charm.
  • Super-Toughness: Gomez is highly-resistant to all manner of violence, whether delivered by his kin (by way of blood or lawful marriage) or otherwise.

    Morticia Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morticia_addams_earth_27.jpg
Morticia is a witch, coming from a family of witches. Much like Charles Addams wanted, Morticia is the true head of the house. She loves her children and her husband very much, supporting them without question and doing anything to protect them. Morticia is a twin, with her identical twin sister Ophelia being a frequent visitor to the Addams' home.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Tish and Cara Mia.
  • Blade Enthusiast: Morticia is not a world-class fencer by any means, but with her moderate degree of skill and her other talents make her a fine sparring partner able to challenge Gomez. Morticia is also quite talented in the use of throwing knives.
  • Composite Character: She's based on a mix of Carolyn Jones and Anjelica Huston's performances.
  • Cunning Linguist: Morticia speaks twelve languages fluently. It could be the result of some magical spell or pact, possibly akin to a demonic Gift of Tongues.
  • Darkness Von Gothick Name: Her first name, Morticia, resembles the word "mortician" and likely comes from the Latin word "mortem", which means death.
  • Expy Coexistence: Morticia served as an inspiration for the creation of Elvira, and on Earth-27 they're acquaintances who get along well.
  • Green Thumb: Morticia is a skilled holistic alchemist and herbalist, maintaining an impressive garden, a beautiful conservatory, and an exotic greenhouse. Aside from growing her rose stems to decorate her house, Morticia cultivates magical herbs for her spells and potions. Her most impressive creation is Cleopatra, her sentient carnivorous "African Strangler" plant which she regularly feeds hamburgers.
  • Happily Married: She and Gomez met and fell in love in their youth, and after they reconnected once he defended her during a legal case, their love and passion reignited stronger than ever, and they have been happily married since.
  • House Wife: Morticia prides herself on her ability to maintain some degree of order in her home. Aside from her questionable parenting technique (though, it does work for her and her kids), Morticia is quite the homemaker. She is a skilled knitter, gardener, and cook (though she leaves most of the cooking to Lurch or Grandmama). She's good at cleaning, too, but she's been known to cheat by magically animating brooms and vacuums when she thinks no one is looking.
  • Kissing Cousins: Through her mother she and Gomez are second cousins, but very much in love.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: Though Morticia retains possession of her soul, it is owned by her infernal benefactor, Aradia Morningstar. She cannot act against her directly and can be summoned to her at any moment. As a result of this magical contract, there are some magics that cannot affect Morticia without Aradia's permission.
  • Mama Bear: Mortica loves nothing more than her family, this mostly applies to Gomez and her children, but it also extends to Gomez's brother Fester, the family's servants, their home, and even to the entire Addams clan as a whole to a lesser degree.
  • Magic Music: Morticia is skilled in the use of several musical instruments, including the shamisen, the violin, castanets, and the didgeridoo. She also has a good singing voice. Aside from her ability to perform pleasing sounds with these instruments, she can also weave spells with them using "sound music" or "music magic".
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Pale skin, has black hair and she's a beautiful woman.
  • Sex Magic: Morticia can use sex and intimacy to weave powerful magic. Her depth of mastery into this field even allows her magic to become stronger when she is aroused or the direct cause of another person's sexual arousal... which with Gomez around, it means Morticia is essentially always just one "Oui" or "mon cher" away from having an impressive abundance of magical energy to tap into for her spells.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's taller than her husband at 6'1"/185cm (without heels) and she's very much beautiful.
  • The Stoic: She's close to unflappable, and almost always wears a calm smile on her face.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Due to her infernal state as a witch, Morticia is hardier than other folk. Though she still feels pains the same as humans, Morticia is better able to deal with casually slicing her palm to produce blood for ritual and can walk away from injuries that would surely kill a normal human. In fact, Morticia finds pain to be just as satisfying as most pleasurable sensations.
  • Wrongfully Accused: She was accused of murdering her former fiancee Rupert Styx, and although she didn't do it, she was willing to take the fall for whoever actually did it. Luckily Gomez came around and defended her and had all charges dropped.

    Wednesday Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wednesday_addams_earth_27.jpg
The eldest of the Addams' children, Wednesday Friday Addams is full of woe.
  • Age Lift: In most incarnations she's a child, but here she's 16 years old.
  • Amateur Sleuth: Wednesday is an avid amateur investigator. She is well-versed in police procedure and forensic science. Wednesday is equally capable of investigating a crime scene and erasing the existence of one existing to avoid detection.
  • Brother–Sister Team: She and Pugsley are a match for one another - which has a way of making them the staunchest of allies and the most intense of rivals at the same time.
  • Creepy Child: Wednesday rarely smiles, avoids physical affection at all costs, and finds cheerful things to be torturous. She also routinely kills her brothers for fun.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her signature pigtails that she has kept since she was a child.
  • Goth: Just like her mother, Morticia.
  • Huge School Girl: While not as tall as her mother, she's still 5'"8/172cm tall.
  • Master Poisoner: Wednesday is a skilled poisoner. She has built-up quite an immunity to many poisons and has made both a series of specialized poisons (and the antidotes) using the venom from her pet spider, Homer.
  • Monster Fangirl: Wednesday studies criminals extensively, particularly serial killers. Though she does idolize them to a degree, she also seems to understand that what they do is evil and wrong. However, Wednesday has also said the only mistake her aunt ever made was trying to kill her Uncle Fester.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Wednesday does love her family... in her own way. She becomes particularly upset by the idea of anyone killing her brothers... Anyone, that is, other than her.
  • Power Incontinence: When she has emotional outbursts, Wednesday tends to lash out with telekinetic energy. This could be a powerful shockwave, a focused shove, or a maelstrom of violence and destruction surrounding her. It will exhaust Wednesday.
  • Sibling Murder: She and Pugsley take advantage of their family curse to kill each other as a form of Sibling Rivalry, and they have also transferred that tendency to their younger brother Pubert.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She certainly takes a lot from her mother Morticia, but inherited her father's brown eyes.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: Wednesday can see, hear, and interact with ghosts and other ethereal beings, such as un-manifested demons and angels or astral travelers.
  • Telepathy: Wednesday can receive infrequent insights into the thoughts of others in her area. This is a passive ability which Wednesday has little control over.

    Pugsley Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pugsley_addams_earth_27.jpg
Pugsley is the younger brother of Wednesday, and he is also a teenager. Something of a mad scientist in the making, Pugsley is an avid bomb enthusiast and likes to adorn his bedroom with stolen road and warning signs.
  • Age Lift: Like Wednesday, Pugsley is older than in other adaptations, being 15 years old.
  • The Apprentice: Pugsley is a talented alchemist, as trained by his great-grandmother Eudora. He is known to have some skill with ritual spellcasting, especially the ones that involve the use of fire — he likes those ones best.
  • Big Brother Bully: Just like how Wednesday likes to torment and occasionally kill him, they also enjoy tormenting and trying to kill their younger brother Pubert.
  • Child Prodigy: Pugsley might not have much for the liberal arts, but he's always favored a liberal use of explosives. The boy has a keen talent for the sciences of chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computer programming, robotics, and quantum physics — particularly in regard to demolition and destruction. At age six, he learned to make a stable dynamite. At age six, he and Uncle Fester made a jetpack. At age ten, he made a puddy explosive more powerful than C4 (he calls it P4). At age twelve, Pugsley created an extradimensional rift generator that allows access to alternate subsidiary realities and intrinsic fields. And just a few months ago, Pugsley created his very first robot "Smiley" and an accompanying AI named "Whizzo".
  • Fat and Skinny: The fat to Wednesday's skinny.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: As a teenage boy, Pugsley will probably do just about anything for a pretty girl that shows any interest in him.
  • Meaningful Name: Pugsley's name originates from the Addams' original estate in Great Britain, Pug's Leigh.
  • Official Couple: He's currently dating Elaine Belloc.
  • Pyromaniac: Pugsley just wants to let the world burn... literally. He enjoys watching fire consume beautiful things and loves to feel the concussive blast of an explosion.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Whereas Wednesday takes after their mother Morticia, Pugsley instead takes after his uncle Fester.
  • Unusual Pets for Unusual People: Pugsley has a pet octopus named Aristotle.

    Pubert Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pubert_addams_earth_27.jpg
The youngest of the three Addams family children.
  • Age Lift: Just like his siblings, Pubert is a young child instead of a baby.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Debbie, Uncle Fester's crazy Serial Killer wife, was about to kill Wednesday, Pubert saved the day by throwing a grenade made by Pugsley in their direction (knowing his sister would return to life).
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: With the exception of his eyes, which he inherited from his mother, he looks like a younger miniature version of his father, with the same hair and even his own tiny mustache.

    Fester Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uncle_fester_eearth_27.jpg
Gomez's older brother. Awkward and weird, Fester has never settled down for long. The women in his life tend to leave him in one way or another. While he maintains a room and a lab at the Addams Family home, he is an avid world traveler. Having been struck by lightning more times than he can count, Fester is able to power lightbulbs and small appliances on his own and also pull small metallic objects to himself with nothing but his "magnetic personality".
  • Bald Mystic: While not really a mystic, he was born bald, has an aptitude for potion making, his grandmother is a witch and is a pretty weird guy.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Fester isn't just weird-looking, he's also just plain weird.
  • Cool Uncle: Despite his weirdness, his niece and nephews all love him and see him as a role model.
  • Harmless Electrocution: During the course of his adventures and experiments, Fester has been the target of no less then seven lightning strikes. Due to his usual physiology and his familial curse, Fester's body has retained an electrical charge, allowing him to supply enough power to light a lightbulb or charge a cellular phone. If he’s not grounded, he can also emit an electrical shock through touch.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Fester lacks confidence in himself in regards to certain facets of life.
  • Love Martyr: So deprived of love (particularly romantic love) is Fester that he’s quite easily seduced and can be made to do some truly awful things in the name of love — like he did when he married a serial killer in 2012. Fester is still recovering from that.
  • Mad Scientist: Fester is a scientist of sort. He is an amateur inventor and chemist. Combining this with his knowledge of the occult, Fester likes to tinker with fantastic (and dangerous) inventions. Fester does not pursue any single creation for longer than a day or two, so he rarely gets to work out the kinks.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: With some effort, Fester's body can work similar to an electro-magnet, drawing small metallic tools to his person. He can also repel small metallic objects.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: His parents tended to neglect him in favor of his brothers, and although he doesn't begrudge them, he was forced to help raise them after his parents Milo and Esmeralda, plus her older brother Cosimo, were killed by an angry mob.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: His family thought he was dead for a few years during the Manhattaning, but he was actually on another location and simply resurfaced later.
  • Stealth Expert: Fester is a master of lurking and skulking about in the shadows.
  • Taught by Experience: Fester knows a good deal about the occult, including various forms of magical study, monsters, relics, and esoteric anomalies of the world (such as the Bermuda Triangle). Most of this knowledge is anecdotal. Fester is the first to admit that what he knows is only "sometimes" right, but still he likes to brag that he's an expert like no other.

    Eudora "Grandmama" Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grandmama_addams_earth_27_7.jpg
  • Mark of the Supernatural: She has a brown eye and a green one, which represents her connection to both her grandson Gomez and great-niece Morticia.
  • Mentor Archetype: She served as mentor for her great-nieces Morticia and Ophelia, and currently she's mentoring her great grandchildren Wednesday and Pugsley.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In canon Grandmama's name was never revealed, but here it's Eudora.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: She outlived her sons Milo and Thatcher, as well as her eldest grandson Cosimo.
  • Parental Substitute: She raised her grandsons Gomez, Fester and Pancho after the deaths of their parents.
  • Quirky Curls: Has curly hair and she's pretty eccentric, even for a witch.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's been around at least for several centuries and is the oldest member of the clan.

    Lurch
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lurch_earth_27.jpg
Lurch was a member of the Jotnar that fell into the service of the Addams Family many years ago.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Instead of a clear reference to Frankenstein's Monster, Lurch is instead a Jotnar, or Jotunn, a Frost giant from the line of Ymir.
  • Badass Driver: Lurch is an expert operator of automobiles. He can drive safely at speeds that most humans would lack the reaction time to handle.
  • Battle Butler: He's officially the butler, chauffeur and bodyguard of the Addams family, and he's a literal giant capable of ripping a man in half and who's much faster than his appearance would suggest.
  • The Big Guy: Standing at an impressive 8'3"/2.5m tall, he's the biggest and strongest member of the Addams family.
  • Caring Gardener: Lurch is an accomplished gardener and landscaper. Though most of his work in this field pertains to the aesthetics of the Addams' estate, he has worked as an assistant and caretaker for the mystical gardens of Eudora for centuries and more recently helps Morticia in the care of her garden.
  • Faster Than They Look: Lurch can move at incredible speeds in short bursts of speed. This often startles those who are unaware of this ability due to Lurch's usually more relaxed gait, often described as a slow shamble.
  • Friend to All Children: He's very close to the Addams family children.
  • Gentle Giant: He's an actual giant and despite his size and intimidating visage, for the most part Lurch is passive and even somewhat friendly.
  • Hidden Depths: Whenever he's not working, Lurch is usually engaged in his creative pursuits, tickling the ivories of organ or piano, painting a portrait or landscape.
  • Improvised Weapon: Lurch, like many Jötnar, was expected to be an accomplished warrior. Though Lurch appears to prefer peaceful coexistence over violence, he can be quite devastating when his charges are threatened. Interestingly, Lurch does not seem to favor the use of any particular weapon or have any professional training, instead preferring to find an improvised weapon from his surroundings.
  • Jack of All Trades: Lurch is well-versed in most is most domestic skills, such as cleaning dishes, laundering clothes, setting tables for meals, buying groceries, sewing torn clothing, and a variety of other skills — including many that are no longer commonly done in modern society (such as skinning and butchering game). He is an excellent handyman, able to handle most everyday repairs and upkeep pertaining to residential property.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He's only known as Lurch, and he was once known as Harðverkr. It's possible he doesn't actually have a true name.
  • The Quiet One: Lurch hardly ever speaks other than answering in a baritone "You rang?" when summoned.
  • Super-Strength: If Eudora is to be believed, Lurch has torn bandits in half and used the separate halves to then beat the bandits' comrades into submission. If facing one or two opponents, Lurch seems to favor simply grabbing his enemies and restraining them until they surrender or he is forced to squeeze them until pass out from lack of oxygen.
  • Supreme Chef: Lurch is, by most accounts, a gourmet chef. Though, some of his meals are... odd.
  • Undying Loyalty: Lurch is devoted in his service to the Addams Family. He would prefer to die than disgrace himself by betraying their confidence and friendship.

    Thing T. Thing
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thing_t_thing_earth_27.jpg
Thing is the caretaker of the Nightmare House that the Addams call home. Though Lurch does most of the heavy lifting in handling the affairs of the house, Thing has been tending to the house since before the Addams Family came to reside there. The disembodied hand is a "hand of glory", the severed hand taken from a hanged man and made into an arcane relic.
  • Fetish: Without feet of his own, Thing appears to have developed a strong foot fetish.
  • Jack of All Trades: Thing is a skilled mechanic, electrician, cook, masseur, medic, driver, and babysitter.
  • In-Series Nickname: Handservant and Fingers.
  • Mysterious Past: No one, not even Thing himself, is quite sure who he was before his hand was separated from his body. And since he has difficulty communicating and with short term memory, it's very likely Thing has long forgotten.
  • Old Retainer: He has served the Addams family for countless decades, he's been there even longer than Lurch.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Thing is just his nickname, his real name is long forgotten.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Thing is an accomplished fighter, specializing in making use of his speed and size.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Thing lives through magic, and functions without the organs, senses, and utilities that the rest of its body would provide. Thing sees without eyes, hears without ears, and thinks without a brain.

    Ophelia Frump
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ophelia_frump_earth_27.jpg
The identical twin sister of Morticia Addams, making her Gomez's sister in-law and the maternal aunt of Wednesday, Pugsley and Pubert.
  • The Apprentice: During her travels after leaving home in search of her own path, she came to the island of Elpida, where she spent a decade as the apprentice of the goddess Gaia in order to become a druid.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: She's very positive and dresses in bright green, while her sister Morticia is prim, proper, serious and dresses in black. Also, while her sister is a skilled witch, Ophelia is instead a druid.
  • Redhead In Green: Unlike her sister and most of her family, she dresses in green and other earthly colors.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: While she shares her twin's intense green eyes, she has orange hair and is one of the more odd members of the Addams family who's not obsessed with death and despair.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Just like her sister, Ophelia stands at 6'1"/185cm and she's quite beautiful, oddities aside.
  • Wandering the Earth: She used her status as a druid to help heal the places affected by the Manhattaning. Ophelia continues to be a vagrant Earthmender, living off the land. She often stays at the Dark Mansion, a guest of her sister Morticia.

    Ittai "Itt" Addams
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cousin_itt_earth_27.jpg
The cousin of the main Addams family who's covered in very long hair.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: In most adaptations Itt's facial features are indecipherable, and only wears a pair of glasses and a hat, but here his mouth can be seen and looks overall more human, albeit still very hairy.
  • Adaptational Explanation: In previous incarnations the reason for his hairy appearance was never explained, but here Itt has been diagnosed with hypertrichosis (also known as "werewolf syndrome").
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Apparently straight in most media, here he's explicitly pansexual.
  • The Charmer: Itt is known to be quite the charming individual.
  • Cool Shades: He wears a nice pair of red tinted glasses over his eyes.
  • Dancing Is Serious Business: Ittai is known to be quite the dancer. He had even appeared on as a contestant on a Vlatavan celebrity dancing competition (he won first place). It is worth noting that most of the Addams males must learn a Vlatavan ritual dance as a rite-of-passage known as the Mamushka. It's a form of mazurka using blades.
  • Fiction 500: Itt is often regarded by financial analysts to be one of the richest persons in Europe. The exact figures for his wealth remains a mystery. His complicated finances are handled by his cousin and attorney, Gomez Addams (who is also known to be a very wealthy man). It is likely that a good portion of the Addams' wealth comes from illicit dealings, considering Itt's connections to the Vlatavan Royal Family and its immense criminal dealings. Many have speculated that Itt uses his diplomatic status to shuttle money around the world to be laundered by his eccentric cousin.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Itt has a thick Vlatavan accent and tends to speak softly in a style often said to be "garbled". It's easy to mistake his words for gibberish. Apparently, it's easier to understand him in Vlatavan as fluent Vlatavan speakers seems to have no trouble.
  • Kavorka Man: Despite his hairy appearance, Itt's charming personality and wealth means he's never lacking in company.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Besides being cousin of the main Addams Family, through his Vlatavan mother Jozefa Zsasz he's also the cousin of Tashana, Anton and Szemere Bogdanow, as well as of Victor Zsasz and the late Vic Sage.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Similarly to his cousin Gomez, Itt dresses in a fancy red suit, with white gloves and a hat.
