Main Characters

     Kazahaya Kudo
A young man with a mysterious past and a powerful desire to live. He was brought to the Green Drugstore by Rikuo after the latter saved him from freezing to death, where he currently lives and works.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Has this in spades with Rikuo. Oftentimes when they are seen arguing, people assume they are a couple having a relationship spat.
  • Butt-Monkey: If something embarrassing happens on a job, it almost always happens to Kazahaya.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Kazahaya has a bad habit of accepting Kakei’s side jobs without completely hearing the details of said job. It is only after he accepts the job that he hears all the details, and the details are generally not to his liking. Of course, he continues to accept side jobs in such a manner regardless.
  • Disguised in Drag: Kazahaya ends up in drag as part of his side jobs far too often for his liking.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Kazahaya becomes very popular at the boarding school due to his Bishōnen looks, which completely baffles him.
  • First-Name Basis: Kazahaya and Rikuo initially only refer to reach other as “you” or some insult, but they gradually graduate to using each other’s first names without honorifics. This familiarity with each other helped fuel rumors of them being a couple at the boarding school.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Kazahaya has blonde hair and he cares about the people around him. He’s sensitive about people being upset, sincerely apologizes to Rikuo when he accidentally triggers the latter over Tsukiko, and he encourages Nayuki to talk to him when he senses that the latter is distressed. Shown most prominently when he meets Kohaku from Wish, and Kazahaya reacts to seeing Kohaku’s memory of Shuichiro’s death by crying for the angel.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Kazahaya is quick to anger, and has a tendency to yell when he’s angry.
  • Half-Identical Twins: With his sister Kei.
  • Heavy Sleeper: Rikuo tends to have a hard time waking him up, and early on in the series Kazahaya would oftentimes be woken up by Rikuo kicking him or dropping stuff on him.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: During the boarding school arc, the entire school population is convinced that Kazahaya is in a relationship with Rikuo. Rikuo says absolutely nothing to correct their peers, leaving Kazahaya to desperately try and convince everyone that they are not a couple. No one is convinced.
  • Meaningful Name: "Kazahaya, your name is like a warning. It's telling you that one day you might disappear, just like the wind." Whether this will come true or not is yet to be seen, but he's determined to survive no matter what.
  • Men Can't Keep House: Rikuo quickly learned after saving Kazahaya that Kazahaya had absolutely no idea how to clean or cook. Kazahaya didn’t even know how to wash rice. Rikuo was quick though to set him straight.
  • Obliviously Beautiful: Being a Bishōnen, people tend to stare at Kazahaya and whisper about his good looks. However, his situational awareness is so poor, in addition to general obliviousness to his own looks, that when he notices people staring at him or whispering about him, Kazahaya assumes he’s doing something weird or abnormal.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Kazahaya looks very similar to his twin Kei, but they have very different personalities. While Kazahaya has a caring nature for the people around him, Kei only cares about Kazahaya, and will hurt or kill anyone who keeps them apart.
  • Psychic Powers: Kazahaya can “see” memories in objects that he touches. He also appears to have empathic absorption, such as when he absorbed Rikuo’s craving for a chocolate bar from his discarded shoe. And due to his body absorbing a shell from a job in Drug & Drop, Kazahaya appears to have developed the ability of precognition.
  • Real Men Hate Sugar: Kazahaya doesn’t like sweets at all, and the only time he’s shown eating sweets is when he absorbs Rikuo’s craving for chocolate.
  • Red String of Fate: According to Kakei, Kazahaya believes that his string of fate is bound familially to Kei. However, his string of fate is actually bound to Rikuo.
  • Rescue Introduction: Kazahaya and Rikuo first meet when Rikuo saves Kazahaya from freezing to death.
  • Take a Third Option: Ultimately the reason Kazahaya ran away; the cult community he was living in with Kei had decided that one of them was going to die. Kazahaya didn’t want to die, but didn’t want Kei to die either, so he ran away so neither of them would die.
  • Tsundere: Towards Rikuo. When Kohaku asks him if he has someone so important to him that he wants to grant that person's wish just because it's that person's, Kazahaya automatically thinks of Rikuo...and then fiercely tries to deny it.
  • Unknown Relative: He appears to be related in some way to Shuichiro Kudo of Wish.

     Rikuo Himura
A young man who, like Kazahaya, has a mysterious past but involving a woman named Tsukiko. He also lives and works at the Green Drugstore.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Has this in spades with Kazahaya. Oftentimes when they are seen arguing, people assume they are a couple having a relationship spat.
  • Berserk Button: Conversations about Tsukiko are a trigger for Rikuo. When Kazahaya offhandedly mentions Tsukiko, Rikuo gives him one hell of a Death Glare.
  • Chick Magnet: High school girls and young women tend to shop at the Green Drugstore just for a chance to talk to Rikuo.
  • Determinator: Locating Tsukiko is Rikuo’s primary motivation. He is determined to find her and he is determined that she will not die.
  • First-Name Basis: Kazahaya and Rikuo initially only refer to reach other as “you” or some insult, but they gradually graduate to using each other’s first names without honorifics. This familiarity with each other helped fuel rumors of them being a couple at the boarding school.
  • Hate At Second Sight: Having met him briefly previously, Rikuo is this towards Watanuki when Kazahaya and Rikuo meet him for the second time in Drug & Drop. Rikuo is almost immediately hostile and on edge around Watanuki, and in a later chapter when Watanuki strokes an unconscious Kazahaya’s hair, Rikuo grabs his hand and jerks it away from Kazahaya. Watanuki however greets Rikuo’s hostility with mysterious smiles.
  • I Warned You: Rikuo adopts this attitude whenever Kazahaya ignores his warnings and accepts Kakei’s jobs without hearing all of the details.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Rikuo acts mean and teasing towards Kazahaya, and he had rather forceful tactics when it came to waking Kazahaya up in the morning, but it’s clear that he cares about Kazahaya and is protective of him.
  • Misdirected Outburst: Rikuo admits to Kazahaya that after Tsukiko’s disappearance, he got into a lot of fights with random people because he was looking for her and blaming everyone for what happened to her. When Saiga found Rikuo and brought him to the Green Drugstore, it was in the aftermath of Rikuo losing a fight against a gang.
  • Psychic Powers: Rikuo is telekinetic, and can use his powers to break small objects.
  • Power Tattoo: The tattoo that spans Rikuo’s arm and back is this. The tattoo is linked to granting the wish of the bearer (Tsukiko) and it will disappear once the bearer’s wish has been granted. The fact that Rikuo still has the tattoo is why he believes Tsukiko is alive.
  • Real Men Cook: Rikuo is a pretty good cook, and even Kazahaya admits that when it’s Rikuo’s turn to make breakfast he does a better job than Kazahaya.
  • Red String of Fate: According to Kakei, Rikuo believes that his string of fate is bound familially to Tsukiko. However, his string of fate is actually bound to Kazahaya.
  • Rescue Introduction: Kazahaya and Rikuo first meet when Rikuo saves Kazahaya from freezing to death.
  • Sweet Tooth: Rikuo loves eating sweets, and when he had a craving for chocolate the craving was strong enough to pass to Kazahaya through his shoe.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Dark hair, dark eyes, tall, attractive, cold but gentle on the inside…Rikuo matches this trope nearly perfectly.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: As the series progresses Rikuo starts treating Kazahaya less hostilely and more gently. Though he still teases him quite a bit.
  • Tsundere: As Saiga puts it, Kazahaya is important to him but he will never admit it.

     Kakei
The mysterious owner of the Green Drugstore. In reality is the Archangel Hisui from Wish.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Kakei is a mild example. Rikuo and Saiga are both well aware of his sadistic streak, but Kazahaya still hasn't caught on to the fact that if Kakei is smiling, he is not going to have a good day. He does seem to genuinely care about the boys, though.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Kakei reacts to most troubling situations with his usual calm demeanor and soft smile.
  • Get a Room!: When Kakei sees Kazahaya sitting on Rikuo and licking his fingers as a result of Kazahaya’s absorbing Rikuo’s chocolate craving, Kakei asks that they please continue what they’re doing after work.
  • Official Couple: With Saiga.
  • Sadist: Saiga claims that Kakei has this side of him, but Kazahaya doesn’t quite believe him.
  • Secret Identity: Kakei is really Hisui from Wish.
  • Stoic Spectacles: Kakei wears glasses and he remains calm in any situation. And as with the trope, when The Glasses Come Off something big is about to happen. It’s a sign he’s about to take his true form as Hisui.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: Kakei seems to know exactly how events are going to turn out, however he is unable to use his powers on anyone stronger than himself. Seeing as Kakei is Hisui, and he is unable to get any information about Tsukiko, this means whatever happened to Tsukiko was caused by something or someone stronger than an Archangel.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Kakei isn’t a jerkass, but he’s less of a troll and more outwardly compassionate in Drug & Drop than he was in Legal Drug.
  • Troll: When he sends Kazahaya and Rikuo out on special jobs, he has a tendency of not giving them all of the necessary information for the job. This amuses Saiga greatly.

     Saiga
Kakei’s lover, and a frequent visitor and job-bringer to the Green Drugstore. In reality is the demon Kokuyo from Wish.
  • Anywhere but Their Lips: Saiga is frequently seen nuzzling and kissing Kakei’s neck. They do have an Almost Kiss on the lips, but are interrupted.
  • Cool Shades: Saiga wears sunglasses all the time, and his eyes remain hidden behind the sunglasses for a good part of the series. When he finally takes them off, it’s to reveal that he’s Kokuyo.
  • Lap Pillow: Oftentimes when Saiga sleeps, he will be resting his head on Kakei’s lap.
  • Official Couple: With Kakei.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Saiga is good at sewing and cooking. It always surprises Kazahaya.
  • Secret Identity: Saiga is really Kokuyo from Wish.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: Saiga can identify people by their souls, and he’s been using this ability to try to locate Tsukiko for Rikuo. Seeing as he is Kokuyo, it is unsurprising that he has an affinity towards human souls. But this also means that whatever happened to Tsukiko was caused by something or someone more powerful than not only a demon, but a son of Satan.
  • Teasing Parent: Acts like this to Kazahaya and Rikuo and frequently asks them questions as if they’re a couple, much to Kazahaya’s chagrin.

Minor Characters

     Kei Kudo (Warning: SPOILERS
Kazahaya’s twin sister.
  • Half-Identical Twins: With her brother Kazahaya.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Kei is very different from Kazahaya. While Kazahaya has a caring nature for the people around him, Kei only cares about Kazahaya, and will hurt or kill anyone who keeps them apart.
  • Psychic Powers: Like Kazahaya, Kei has psychic visions when she touches objects. However while Kazahaya can “see” the past, Kei can “see” the future.
  • Riddle for the Ages: In volume 2 of Legal Drug, a hair-clip of Kei’s is seen in a vision Kazahaya sees of Tsukiko’s blood-splattered apartment. While this is referenced in a dream Kazahaya has at the start of Drug & Drop, Kei’s involvement in this incident has yet to be explained.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Kei suffers one after being kidnapped as a child but she eventually grows her long hair back.
  • Unknown Relative: As Kazahaya’s twin she also appears to be related in some way to Shuichiro Kudo of Wish.
  • Yandere: Kei has a very unhealthy obsession with Kazahaya. The fact that he's her brother doesn't dampen her feelings in the slightest.
Kei: Like this thread, Kei and Kazahaya are tightly linked, if someone ever pulls us apart, I'll never forgive them!
    • Kei was the one who attacked Rikuo to get information about Kazahaya's whereabouts.
    • She killed her kidnappers because they were keeping her and her brother apart.

     Tsukiko (Warning: SPOILERS
A woman from Rikuo’s past who went missing. Rikuo has been trying to find her.
  • Psychic Powers: Tsukiko has precognition, but she can only see a maximum of 24 hours into the future, and she cannot see any visions regarding her own future.
  • The Reveal: The nature of her relationship with Rikuo was finally revealed after years of speculation: She is Rikuo’s older sister, and last living relative.
  • Uncertain Doom: Something bad happened to Tsukiko, as a memory of her blood-splattered apartment indicates. Rikuo however is convinced that she’s still alive somewhere. Whatever happened to her is so mysterious that not even an Archangel or a demon can currently find her.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Tsukiko appears to be this, given her hairstyle, physical appearance, and demeanor towards Rikuo in the memories Kazahaya saw of her.

     Satoru Nayuki
The overly cheerful Student Council Vice President of Suiryo Boarding School, and someone Kazahaya becomes fast friends with during his short stay there.

  • Ambiguous Ending: Whether or not Nayuki can remain at Suiryo is not revealed. But it’s pretty clear that Mukofujiwara isn’t going to let anything happen to him.
  • Attempted Rape: Nayuki nonchalantly reveals to Kazahaya that a student was almost raped in the communal showers, which is why the dorms have their own private bathrooms. He later reveals that he was the victim of the attempted assault.
  • Beneath the Mask: Nayuki acts very cheerful on the outside, but on the inside is another story. His soul manifests itself outside of his body so he can finally express the pain and fear he’s been pretending isn’t there.
  • Bishie Sparkle: Nayuki literally sparkles at times, sometimes so bright that it blinds Kazahaya.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: The story arc of volume 3 wouldn’t have happened had Nayuki actually talked to Mukofujiwara about his problems inside of avoiding them.
  • First-Name Basis: Nayuki and Mukofujiwara are revealed to be this privately.
  • Infodump: If Kazahaya ever has any school questions, Nayuki will happily give him as many details as possible.
  • Keet: Nayuki tends to be very hyper, talkative and cheerful, and he’s also okay with dressing like a girl if need be.
  • Quest for a Wish: Nayuki’s ultimate desire is to get Suiryo’s prized ring, which is said to be able to grant wishes. He wants to wish to stay at school and stay with Mukofujiwara.
  • Riches to Rags: The failure of Nayuki’s family business means that Nayuki is at risk of leaving Suiryo before he can graduate.
  • Shipper on Deck: Nayuki very much supports Kazahaya becoming a couple with Rikuo.
  • Stepford Smiler: He is faking his cheerfulness to hide the pain he’s feeling inside.

     Kousuke Mukofujiwara
The stoic Student Council President Suiryo Boarding School.

  • Ambiguous Situation: In the end Mukofujiwara made it clear that he won’t allow Nayuki to be kicked out of school, but what he plans on doing and whether or not he’ll be successful is left ambiguous.
  • Batman Gambit: Mukofujiwara‘s endgame goal in the arc. He knew that Nayuki’s soul would steal the school’s prized ring, and he knew Nayuki would be expelled as a result. So he hired Kazahaya and Rikuo to steal the ring before Nayuki could, so they as outsiders would get in trouble instead of Nayuki, and Nayuki wouldn’t have to leave the school.
  • Beneath the Mask: Mukofujiwara is very cool and collected on the outside, but deep down he’s very caring about others. He hired Kazahaya and Rikuo out of concern for Nayuki.
  • First-Name Basis: Mukofujiwara and Nayuki and are revealed to be this privately.
  • Identical Stranger: Mukofujiwara is very similar-looking to Rikuo, as they are both Tall, Dark, and Handsome, though Mukofujiwara is a lot more stoic to Rikuo. The similarities are heightened when Rikuo wears glasses like Mukofujiwara, which proves to be very important as they serve to confuse Nayuki’s soul.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Serves as one to Nayuki, beginning after his near-rape experience and continuing on as Nayuki’s soul manifested outside his body seeks him out for comfort over his family situation.
  • The Reveal: Mukofujiwara was the client for the school job.
  • Not So Stoic: Mukofujiwara loses his stoicism when Nayuki resigns his fate to leave school and he yells at the latter for giving up so easily.
  • Stoic Spectacles: He sports them, though there isn’t a moment when The Glasses Come Off.
