     Ishi Utsunomiya

Ishi Utsunomiya

SHSL Roller Derby Jammer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_ocyl5qgqfd1r099hn_500.png

  • Berserk Button: If you know what's good for you, do NOT pick on her younger brother.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: According to Tim, they're nothing compared to her parents'.
  • Brains and Brawn: The brawn to Timaeus' brains.
  • Catchphrase: Has the tendency to say "binch" quite a lot.
  • Childhood Friend: Is this to Timaeus.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: She can't stop herself from standing up for the others, especially against MONO-9000. This nearly gets her killed when she tries to save Honoka from execution.
  • Color Motif: Black and lime green.
  • Cool Big Sis: Plays this role to her younger brother, Kiyoshi.
  • Deuteragonist: Due to her role as Tim's best friend, she is this in the story.
  • Foil: To Timaeus. Tim is a very passive person, preferring to act with words rather than actions. He's very polite, quiet, and easily flustered. Ishi, on the other hand, is very loud, boisterous, impulsive, and thinks that actions speak louder than words. She often gets herself into trouble because of this, and Tim is always there to either get her out of it or help cheer her up afterwards.
  • Gamer Chick: Apparently, she likes to yell at 12 year olds on Xbox live.
  • Hot-Blooded: She’s certainly passionate.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Ishi is pretty reckless, saying and doing a lot of stuff on impulse, which often puts her in danger.
  • Love Interest: Jurou apparently has the hots for her.
  • Not Quite Dead: She was gravely injured after MONO-9000 forced her into the execution chamber with Honoka, but after the rest of the cast called him out on it, he reluctantly saved her. Her current status is unknown, however.
  • Odd Friendship: With Tim.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Hot-Blooded and sporty red to Tim's quiet and dorky blue.
  • Shipper on Deck: She REALLY wants Tim and Nikola to make a move. She even threatens to make the move for them if they don't do it themselves.
Ishi: Just ask him out already, will you? You guys are driving me to drink here.
    Tim (internally): ...OH.
Tim: Wh– Was THAT what it was about?!
Ishi: YES oh my god are you blind? Did you not see his face?? Am I gonna have to hit on him for you?!
Tim: Ishi they’re gonna hear you oh my god…
  • Shout-Out: According to her Electro ID, she's known as "Titty Typhoon," which is a callback to one of the buildings in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Probably has the filthiest mouth of the whole cast.
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: Well, she says "binch", but it's the same idea.
  • Your Door Was Open: When Tim wakes up to find Ishi sleeping on him and asks how she got into his room, she explains that he left his door open.

     Gugalanna Velasquez

Gugalanna Velasquez/ “El Toro Del Cielo” (The Bull of Heaven)

SHSL Luchadora

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_odf7qu946q1r099hn_500.png

  • Action Girl: She's a luchadora, what did you expect?
  • CAPS LOCK: So much so that her normal speaking voice is in caps lock, just in a smaller font size.
  • Color Motif: Yellow/Gold and White.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Gold/Yellow and white are the main colors of her color scheme, and her stage name translates into "The Bull of Heaven".
  • High-Voltage Death: Is on the receiving end of one of these in chapter one.
  • Hot-Blooded: Not as much as Ishi, but she’s still very loud and boisterous.
  • Irony: After MONO-9000 takes away the food supply as a motive, Gugalanna delivers a speech about how nobody's going to kill anyone and how everyone will face death by starvation with dignity. Guess what happens to her overnight.
  • Large Ham: A delightfully amusing example.
  • Masked Luchador: Obviously one of these. She's only seen without the mask in two free time events.
  • Meaningful Name: Her real name is Gisela, and she was raised by nuns after she grew up in an orphanage. She got the name Gugalanna (as well as her stage name "El Toro de Cielo") from the story of Gilgamesh.
  • No Indoor Voice: There's practically no instance where she isn't yelling. Played with in that this seems to be both because she deliberately yells for fun, and because she's hard of hearing; she starts to modulate her voice a bit after she finds her hearing aids in her room.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She's only 4'3", making her the smallest of the cast. However, she's the SHSL Luchadora, and she's strong enough to leave dents in the punching bags that she has in her room.
  • The Unmasking: During one of her free time events, Tim catches her without her mask. She initially tries to hide, but once she realizes it's Tim and not MONO-9000, she lets Tim into her room.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She is the first to be killed off, being Chapter 1's victim.

     Honoka Ueda

Honoka Ueda

SHSL Tap Dancer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_ogzyakcvvg1r099hn_500.png

  • Accidental Murder: She had no intention of killing Gugalanna. She smashed up Ping, but had no idea that Gugalanna would get herself electrocuted attempting to help the damaged robot.
  • Color Motif: Purple.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: In her execution, she is placed on a moving stage and essentially forced to dance until her medical condition overpowers her and she dies from it, and then she gets crushed by a giant speaker.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Described as "high femme" by the creator, and is apparently able to cook.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: This is what kills her off during her execution, as a result of her being forced to dance.
  • The Leader: Becomes this for the students as a whole (at least until she gets executed.)
  • Sympathetic Murderer: Despite having deliberately destroyed Ping and accidentally killing Gugalanna, she shows remorse for what she did at the end of the first trial.
  • A Taste of the Lash: Played more for laughs, she often hits people on the shoulder with her dancing cane if they act up.
  • Team Mom: Acts somewhat like a bossy mother figure to the cast.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She is the first killer of the story, having destroyed Ping and accidentally killed Gugalanna.
  • Youthful Freckles: Has these on her cheeks.

     Vasundhara Mwamba

Vasundhara Mwamba

SHSL Knitter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_og1anqyx7k1r099hn_500.png

  • The Big Girl: Physically one of the strongest characters.
  • Color Motif: Neon pink.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has pink hair and pink eyes.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite her hulking physique, she's actually very sweet.
  • In-Series Nickname: She acknowledges that her name is a mouthful, and insists that everyone call her "Vash" for short.
  • Joggers Find Death: Subverted, as she's not actually a jogger, but she didn't intentionally go looking for Gugalanna's body, she just happened to pass by the scene in the laundry room on her way to go knit in the library.
  • Nice Girl: Definitely one of the nicest.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, she hospitalized someone for weeks after a fight. Why that fight broke out is still a mystery.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She has neon pink hair, and is one of the nicest girls you could ever hope to meet.
  • The Scream: Lets out one of these when she finds Gugalanna's body in the laundry room.

     Riko Shirai

Riko Shirai

SHSL Aerospace Engineer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_od006iijtx1r099hn_500.png

  • Closet Geek: She's a huge Star Trek fan. She has all the movies stashed in her room, and even cosplays the characters sometimes. She's even won second place in a cosplay contest at SDCC.
  • Color Motif: White.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Usually when irritated.
  • Establishing Character Moment: During her introduction, she's sarcastic, dismissive, and even scares Ishi into silence.
  • Fangirl: She's a massive Trekkie.
  • Foil: To Yusra. Riko is very cold and serious, and has very high standards for almost everyone and everything, but she's secretly a huge Closet Geek. Yusra is very sweet and motherly, and was born into a very wealthy family, but she knows how to be very serious when she needs to be.
  • Ice Queen: Riko is unmistakably dismissive and cold to almost everyone except Yusra.
  • Squee: Does this when Aoi recognizes her Star Trek cosplay.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's SEVEN FEET TALL.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Or at least she thinks so.

     Yusra Samara

Yusra Samara

Reserve Course

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_odf7txzcr31r099hn_500.png
  • Color Motif: Orange.
  • Foil: To Riko. Riko is very cold and serious, and has very high standards for almost everyone and everything, but she's secretly a huge Closet Geek. Yusra is very sweet and motherly, and was born into a very wealthy family, but she knows how to be very serious when she needs to be.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: The only one without an SHSL talent, she got into the school via the reserve course.
  • Teen Genius: One of the the smartest of the cast academically, when its revealed that she got into the Reserve Course program purely on her own merit, on a full scholarship.

     Ping

Ping

SHSL ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_ofj6p97w291r099hn_500.png

  • Does Not Understand Sarcasm: Most likely due to her young and naïve AI.
  • Humans Are Interesting: She's fascinated by the differences between Tim and Gugalanna's hair after she runs her fingers through it, as well as the other things that the human characters do.
  • Not Quite Dead: Although she was smashed up by Honoka, the vital systems stored in her head were unharmed, so MONO-9000 still considered her alive and took her away to be rebuilt.
  • Only One Name: She's known solely as "Ping". Seeing as how she's a robot, this fits.
  • Signature Laugh: "Kyohoho" seems to be this for her.
  • Third-Person Person: Speaks in third person, with the exception of her prerecorded introduction.
  • Token Non-Human: Ping is the only one out of the sixteen students who is a robot, rather than human like everyone else.

     Tiffani Fairfax

Tiffani Fairfax

SHSL Tech Support

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_ogv0c3cahu1r099hn_500.png

  • Bilingual Bonus: Speaks English and Japanese.
  • Brutal Honesty: Likes to give "friendly" reminders to everyone that they could all die any minute.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Definitely one of these.
  • Foil: To Nikola. Nikola is very cheerful, kind, and optimistic. He shows a wide range of emotion throughout the story, from happiness to fear, but is generally a pleasant person to be around. Tiffani is pessimistic, rude, and always complaining. She shows almost no emotion aside from annoyance and anger, and refuses to help anyone when she doesn't have to, and she's not a very fun person to be around.
  • I Hate Past Me: Tiffani was the cheer captain when she was in middle school. Now in high school, Tiffani entirely regrets that decision, and she gets embarrassed whenever she has to bring it up.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Addicted to the stuff.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She is the pessimistic and unpleasant blue to Nikola's optimistic and energetic red.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Tied with Ishi for the filthiest mouth.
  • The Snark Knight: Has an insult ready for just about anybody, and her mug in her introduction reads "I HAVE GIVEN UP".
  • Techno Wizard: Seeing as how she's the SHSL Tech Support, she has to be one of these.
