The Supreme Kais

U1 is where the Supreme Kais are the major dominant force, being the ones that defeated all the major threats and forces shown in the manga and anime more . This is also the universe in which the Vargas people created the traversing technology, which they used together to organize the Multiverse Tournament. The only fighter in this universe is the South Supreme Kai note , while the Grand Supreme Kai, the North, East & West Supreme Kais, and the Vargas and Namekian organizers are all spectators.

     In General

  • Big Good: For the DBM multiverse in general - also, they're the organizers of the tournament.
  • Good Is Not Nice: They engaged in preemptive strikes against all the potential threats in their universe. While many of these were evil beings, like Bibidi and Bojack, some were more morally neutral, like the Legendary Super Saiyan.
  • Grand Theft Me: North, East and West get their bodies switched by Ginyu during the Majin rebellion. He only stays in their bodies long enough to slice open their throats and switch with the next Kai.
  • Knight Templar: The Supreme Kais of this universe are ruthless vigilantes who exterminate possible threats, long before they actually became a danger, which includes back when they were kids. Of course, considering that the only threats they've been shown exterminating are the ones who did become problems in canon, this may be justified.
  • Physical God: All of them are literal Gods in the Dragon Ball Universe.
  • Shoot the Dog: They decided to kill off several would be threats to the Universe while they were still young or before they became really dangerous, including Freeza and Cooler as kids, and the infant Broly.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Killed the young Freeza and Cooler (in fairness they were causing trouble even back then) and the infant Broly, in order to protect the universe. The latter was particularly painful for West.

    South Supreme Kai

  • The Big Guy: The only one of the Kai taking part in the tournament proper. He was also the first one to give a good fight to the mindless Buu.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite being a stickler for the rules most of the time, he cheers like a child when Grand Supreme Kai suggests they make a tournament with the technology to travel across universe.

    Grand Supreme Kai

  • Adaptational Wimp: In canon, Grand Supreme Kai was able to put up a fight against Buu after he had absorbed the South Supreme Kai (the most powerful of the Supreme Kais), before getting absorbed himself. And that's without including later-established canon where he was even more powerful than when he fought Buu. Here, he's a Non-Action Guy who proved absolutely useless during the Majin Rebellion and gets anticlimactically killed despite not fighting at all. His only supposed feat which was easily replicating Gast's spell to contain Zen Buu was revealed to have been a lie, given that he could not do the same spell on the much weaker U11 Majin Buu.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: North and East deduce that this must be why he is so forgiving of Zen Buu. He isn't brainwashed, but willingly cooperates with Buu.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Him being so forgiving and lenient towards Zen Buu comes off as this to the other Kais.
  • The Fatalist: Reveals himself to have become this, because he believes that Zen Buu is so powerful and omnipotent that fighting him is a worthless endeavor, people can only try to understand, accept and live with the consequences of his decisions.

     The Vargas

The Vargas

  • Art Evolution: Combines with Progressively Prettier. At the beginning of the comic, the Vargas were lankier and more avian, with longer faces and smaller eyes which made them look borderline villainous. Their design shifted to something more friendly once the tournament began, and once Asura took over, they got shorter bills, bigger eyes, and overall more cutesy. Female Vargas with Tertiary Sexual Characteristics started appearing, and by the time of the fourth round, Vargas could be seen wearing tank tops, sporting beards, or having clips in their hair—erm, feathers.
  • Bird People: They are a bird-like race.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: One of them is Majinized by Babidi.
  • Crazy-Prepared: After Buu's rampage, they come up with a backup interdimensional machine so they can still teleport people away if the main asteroid's control center is compromised.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: It's them, not Goku, Vegito, or Bra, who defeat the seemingly unstoppable U4 Buu.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: They're an entire species of these, having invented interdimensional travel and energy shields which can withstand attacks from Super Saiyan 2 Vegito. The only people in the multiverse who seem comparable to them technologically are the U19 Heloites.
  • Series Mascot: While characters like Vegito, Bra, or Broly are more prominent in DBM's advertising, the Vargas are a distinctly DBM invention with a unique and recognizable design, making them perhaps the closest thing the webcomic has to a "face". A Vargas head has served as the tab icon of the website for years.
  • Stupid Good: Zigzagged. They're a polite and well-meaning group, but despite their technological brilliance they're quite gullible and often oblivious to what's happening both in- and out-of-tournament. This doesn't mean they can't learn from their mistakes and plan ahead, however.
  • Toothy Bird: Lampshaded by Piccolo when one of the Vargas gives the Z-Fighters a devious grin.
