Characters from Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur (Manga, original, and the 2006 remake)

Piisuke

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/piisuke_kun.jpg
A plesiosaur (Futabasaurus suzukii in the remake) which hatched in modern-day Japan by Nobita via the Time Cloth, in order to prove to his friends he'll show them a "real, living dinosaur". Nobita originally only wants Piisuke around to get back at Suneo and Gian for humiliating him earlier, but he starts getting attached to Piisuke after raising the reptile as his own pet.
  • Adaptation Species Change: In the original film and manga, he was a generic plesiosaur from Japan. In the 2006 remake, he is a Futabasaurus, to coincide with the genus's discovery that year.
  • Adaptational Badass: Piisuke in the manga gets hidden in the sidelines while Nobita and Doraemon infiltrates the Dinosaur Hunters' lair, and pretty much stays out of the finale only to reappear in the ending for a goodbye. The anime, on the other hand, have Piisuke alerting the time patrol's probes and directing them to where the Hunters' hideout is located, thereby saving his master and every one of the heroes in the process.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: Even a Futabasaurus (a plesiosaur closely related to the Elasmosaurus).
  • All the Other Reindeer: As a result of the Time Machine's destination screwing up, Nobita and Doraemon accidentally deposits Piisuke into the American coast instead of Japan, leading to Piisuke getting ostracized by the native Elasmosaurus. Thankfully the story ends with Nobita and gang successfully sending Piisuke to Japan, where he meets a herd of native Futabasaurus and is accepted into their gang.
  • Artistic License – Paleontology: Besides the fact plesiosaurs aren't dinosaurs, Piisuke shows many of the stereotypical inaccuracies of plesiosaurs, namely an overly flexible neck that can be raised above water and being able to move on land. Also, plesiosaurs didn't hatch from eggs (though this wasn't known during the time the original film was made).
  • Continuity Cameo: Although not named onscreen, Piisuke shows up in the 2020 movie, Doraemon: Nobita's New Dinosaur saving Nobita and Kyu. Piisuke re-appears in the ending of the later film, observing his former master tearfully without making himself known.
  • The Cutie: An adorable, friendly plesiosaur who loves snuggling against Nobita's cheek and enjoys playing ball with his master.
  • Gentle Giant: He's still very friendly as an adult, when he's now a giant plesiosaur big enough for Nobita and his friends to ride on.
  • Gigantic Adults, Tiny Babies: The newly-hatched Piisuke can fit in a plastic beach bucket (in fact this is how Nobita smuggles Piisuke around, in a bucket full of water). After growing up Piisuke can have Nobita, Doraemon, and the whole gang riding on his back, fitting a large plesiosaur.
  • Head Pet: Piisuke gets to sit on Nobita's scalp in a few scenes, back when he was a recently-born plesiosaur.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: In order to make Piisuke grow up on time so he can show off a live, actual dinosaur to Suneo and Gian, Nobita asks Doraemon to use a gadget and make Piisuke "older, pronto". Doraemon complies and feeds Piisuke the Growing Accelerate Potion.
  • Pokémon Speak: His vocabulary consists mostly of "Pi! Pii! Pii!" chirps, which inspires the name "Piisuke" (little pii).
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Piisuke's Adaptation Species Change to Futabasaurus in the 2006 remake was because the genus was discovered that very year.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: One of the cutest plesiosaurs to be put on screen.
  • Spanner in the Works: In the anime, at least. Dolmanstein and Black Mask already have Doraemon and the others at their mercy, but Piisuke alerting the time patrol puts their plans to a stop.
  • Stock Ness Monster: Piisuke unintentionally becomes a Nessie equivalent in Tokyo when Nobita, in a last-ditch attempt to hide Piisuke from his parents, released Piisuke into a nearby lake around a park, warning Piisuke to hide from strangers. Unfortunately, park-goers still sees something strange in the water... both Nobita and Doraemon have one heck of an Oh, Crap! expression when they saw the news report that a local expedition crew is going to excavate the lake to investigate the "monster mystery".
  • Taxonomic Term Confusion: Nobita's "dinosaur" is really a plesiosaur.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Sausages and sashimi, the latter which makes plenty of sense since, well, plesiosaurs eat fish.

The Dinosaur Hunters

A rogue organization from the 22nd Century who, uhm, well, they hunt dinosaurs.

Dolmanstein

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/capture_177.PNG

A billionaire from the future who funds the Dinosaur Hunters' activities, and an enthusiast in collecting taxidermized dinosaurs and going on dinosaur-hunting safaris - an act which is outlawed in the future.

  • Big Bad: Of the first Doraemon movie.
  • Fat Bastard: He's a pretty huge guy, and a nasty piece of work.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Black Mask and his group of hunters may be the major threat menacing Doraemon and friends, but Dolmanstein's funding and campaign to hunt and taxidermize dinosaurs is what facilitates the hunters' various activities.
  • Taxidermy Terror: His mansion's walls are lined with taxidermized heads of the various dinosaurs he hunted down during his safari trips.
  • Trumplica: His appearance in the remake is loosely based on pre-president Trump. Adding to the fact that he's a billionaire and a Rich Jerk...
  • Would Hurt a Child: He gets really excited at the prospect of going on another safari - with Doraemon, Nobita, and all their friends as targets. Not only that, but in the 2112: The Birth of Doraemon Ova, Dolmanstein alongside Black Mask decides to take hostage Sewashi in order to force the time police to halt their chase.

Black Mask

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_322.jpg

Leader of the Dinosaur Hunters and the Number Two to Dolmanstein. He's the one who discovered Piisuke after spying on Nobita and the Futabasaurus in a park, and will hunt down Piisuke for profit.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Although Black Mask is a villain in all versions, his 2006 movie incarnation has a few Pet the Dog moments the original lacks. Like giving the gang food, gifts, and other supplies after saving them from the pterodactyl chase.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: He really, really enjoys his job Hunting Dinosaurs for his boss. Their hideout even has an arena where they can watch hungry dinosaurs maul each other to death for fun!
  • The Dragon: Leads the Hunters, and answers directly to his benefactor, the main villain Dolmanstein.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: While Dolmanstein is undoubtly the major villain of this story, Nobita's personal beef is against Black Mask.
  • Sadistic Choice: After Black Mask and his hunters have Nobita and friends cornered (after a Villainous Rescue, no less), he offers Nobita one last chance - surrender Piisuke to the Hunters and they'll send everyone back home to Japan, or they hunt the heroes down the following day. 24 hours to decide... eventually, Nobita and gang chooses the latter.
  • Sinister Schnoz: His nose is huge and screams "villain" from a mile away. The 2006 remake even gives focus to his schnoz in a bunch of close-ups.
  • Villainous Rescue: When Doraemon and gang are caught in an Aerial Canyon Chase with a flock of pterasaurs in pursuit, at the most dire moment Black Mask and his hunters suddenly arrives to zap the pterasaurs out of the sky in their ships. As they land Black Mask then reveals his true motives for rescuing the heroes (see two lines above).
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • Just like his boss. While pursuing Nobita and Doraemon through the time warp on his own Time Machine, Black Mask doesn't hesitate to shoot at them. Although Black Mask does show some degree of restrain unlike his boss; near the end as Dolmanstein and Black Mask are about to release a T-Rex on Nobita and friends, when Nobita repeatedly insists he didn't have Piisuke with him, Black Mask eventually decide to recall the T-Rex, but Dolmanstein stops him and tells him to "continue with the show".
    • In the 2112: The Birth of Doraemon

Dinosaur Hunters

The mooks running the Dinosaur Hunters organization.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The 2007 Nintendo DS remake (made in conjunction with the then-recent 2006 movie) reveals several leaders in their organization, including a T-Rex controlling Tyranno-Rider, the Dark Action Girl Raptor-rider, and a pterasaur-riding Ptera-rider, with Black Mask being their leader. There's even an action-packed What If? comic which has Doraemon and gang battling all their members, one at a time, before facing Black Mask and Dolmanstein in the ending! (That one isn't canon, however)
  • Cool Ship: Their aerial transport is a flying ship modeled after scorpions.
  • Elaborate Underground Base: Their base is hidden underground, which is how they managed to sneak past the Time Patrol's surveillance. But because they wanted to lure Nobita and Doraemon into their hideout so as to trap them in an arena with a T-Rex, they end up giving their cover away, enough for the Time Patrol to spot them and attack.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: All of them wears face-obscuring masks.
