The Light

Members of the Light

    In General
  • Big Bad Wannabe: They aspire to conquer the universe, but the forces of Chaos eventually overtake them.
  • Did Not See That Coming: They never expected Anarchy to betray them, something Ravager calls them out on.
  • Enemy Mine: They are forced to aid the Justice League in fighting off the Chaos invasion.
  • The Omniscient Council of Vagueness: They spend a chunk of the story being this, until the Chaos invasion forces them to expose themselves.
  • Out-Gambitted: The Chaos Gods and their servants slowly chip away at their influence before launching a worldwide assault, killing half of them in the process and forcing the rest to go into hiding.
    Vandal Savage
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yjo_vandalsavage_1.png
The leader of the Light, Vandal Savage is a millennia-old caveman who gained immortality and a Healing Factor from a meteor that struck the Earth tens of thousands of years ago. Over time, he has accumulated vast wealth and power, all in the name of conquering the universe.
  • Abusive Dad: He treats his daughter, Scandal, rather poorly, and that's all before he killed her lover to cement his alliance with Darkseid.
  • Disappointed in You: He reacts this way when Scandal betrays him.
  • Facepalm of Doom: He is easily strong enough to crush a person's skull single-handedly.
  • Feel No Pain: Averted. He can feel pain, but his regenerative powers allow him to shrug it off.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: He prefers hand-to-hand combat.
  • Healing Factor: A bunch of cultists pump him full of lead until they run out of ammo. He survives and heals himself in a matter of seconds, then he retaliates.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He's incredibly strong, and surprisingly quick on his feet.
  • One-Man Army: He's capable of slaughtering multiple armed enemies by himself, and all without using any weapons.
  • Unstoppable Rage: When a group of cultists pump him full of lead, he shrugs it off and, with a roar, charges into their ranks and butchers them.
  • Villainous Friendship: He seems to be on good terms with fellow immortal Ra's al Ghul.
    Ra's al Ghul
A centuries-old man who leads the League of Assassins, and a strong contender for the title of Batman's deadliest enemy alongside the Joker. He maintains his vitality via regular baths in a strange liquid called the Lazarus Pit. Aside from that, he has no powers beyond his mind and his mastery of swordsmanship.
    Lex Luthor
The Arch-Enemy of Superman, and the extremely wealthy owner of Lexcorp. Luthor is the first member of the Light to meet Krieg, and becomes intrigued by him.
  • Absolute Xenophobe: He despises Superman.
  • Bald of Evil: Not a hair on his head, and he's an evil billionaire.
  • Benevolent Boss: Towards Mercy, at any rate. The first thing he says to Krieg when they meet is to ask about her, and when Krieg has to amputate her arm to save her life, Luthor holds her down so she won't spasm while he does it, then carries her to a hospital personally.
  • Bodyguard Babes: He has one in the form of Mercy Graves, who also counts as a Battle Butler.
  • Did Not See That Coming: Luthor is openly surprised when Krieg declares his lack of hostility towards him.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: He is remarkably talented at keeping his cool under pressure.
    • When a drug lord threatens him, he maintains his civil demeanor.
    • When the Chaos invasion occurs, he gives only a slight look of surprise when he and Mercy are abruptly fired upon. After that, his business face returns and he retains it.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He rates Krieg very accurately and manages to convince him to attend a diplomatic summit without informing the Justice League.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Krieg's behavior and lack of hostility towards him put the teen on Luthor's radar.
    Queen Bee
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yjo_queenbee_5.png
The dictator of Bialya. Queen Bee possesses the power to manipulate pheromones which allows her to get others to do her bidding.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: She really isn't.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: She's not a sympathetic character at all, but her fate is still gruesome. However...
  • Asshole Victim: ...She's still a brutal tyrant, so it's not like she didn't deserve to die.
  • Bad Boss: Judging by a remark made by the captain of her guards, she's not a pleasant person to work under.
  • Big "NO!": Screams this trope as her rebellious guards overtake her and tear her clothes off.
  • Bodyguard Betrayal: Her personal guard turns against her after Slaanesh makes them immune to her powers and torture her to death.
  • Break the Haughty: She goes from an arrogant dictator to a sobbing wreck once her guards are done with her.
  • Cornered Rattlesnake: Subverted to hell and gone. She tries to struggle, but her guards easily overpower and humiliate her.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: She relies too much on her ability to manipulate others with her pheromone control, thus she is utterly helpless when Slaanesh grants her bodyguards immunity to it.
  • Killed Offscreen: She is last shown being tortured by her vengeful guards, but Scandal Savage is later informed that she isn't dead yet. Exasperated, she orders that Queen Bee needs to die immediately, and the message gets passed down.
  • Non-Action Girl: She can't fight worth a damn.
  • Oh, Crap!: When she realizes that her guards are immune to her powers and have cornered her.
  • Orcus On Her Throne: She tends to delegate the actual running of her country to her subordinates, and deeply dislikes having to do it herself.
  • Shameful Strip: Her guards viciously tear her clothes off and paw at her. They don't rape her, though—because their leader thinks that would be too boring.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female member of the Light.
  • Undignified Death: Whereas Ra's al Ghul and the Brain go down swinging, Bee goes down like a pathetic little bitch.
  • Walking Spoiler: All those white spaces and death tropes...
    Ocean-Master
    The Brain
    Klarion
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yj_klarion.png
An incredibly powerful "Lord of Chaos" taking the form of an extremely bratty child, Klarion is eventually revealed to be a Chaos Daemon who fled from his masters and has been keeping Earth's existence a secret from them.
  • Achilles' Heel: If his cat, Teekl, is badly injured or killed, he gets dragged back to the Warp.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Acts like a spoiled child, though he's a lot older than he looks.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He lampshades this trope almost word-for-word, declaring that even he doesn't want Earth to be subjected to his masters' typical forms of entertainment.
  • HA HA HA—No: When Circe reveals her intent to usurp the Chaos Gods, Klarion laughs uproariously, then abruptly stops and bluntly tells her that she's just another pawn.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: He's a Chaos Daemon and a total brat, but he hates the Chaos Gods with a vengeance and helps fight against their invasion.
  • No-Sell: Downplayed. Bullets do hurt him, but he can regenerate almost instantly.
  • Oh, Crap!: He breaks out in a cold sweat when he realizes that his former masters know where he is.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He calls a meeting to discuss the Chaos Gods with his colleagues, and is completely serious throughout it. Both acts surprise the other members, and showcases just how serious a threat the Chaos Gods pose.
    Talia al Ghul
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yj_talia.png
Ra's al Ghul's daughter, who has on-off romance with Batman. She assumes her father's position after Katana kills him.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She's good with a sword, but she also uses a gun.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Is completely loyal to her father and his goals.
  • Foil: To Scandal Savage. Both are daughters of incredibly powerful immortals, but whereas Vandal was neglectful at best and abusive at worst, Ra's—though hardly the world's greatest dad—had a more cordial relationship with his daughter. This, in turn, shaped how their daughters viewed them: Scandal hates her dad and is willing to see Earth get destroyed just to spite him, whereas Talia is loyal to her dad and opposes the Chaos Gods.
  • Hates Small Talk: She's cordial up Vandal Savage, but when he expresses condolences for her father's demise, she tells him they need to focus on the immediate crisis. Vandal approves of this mindset.
  • Tranquil Fury: She wants revenge for her father's death, but she knows that charging in will accomplish nothing, so she suppresses her anger. Vandal Savage is impressed.

Servants of The Light

    Deathstroke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deathstrokes.png
A mercenary and Vietnam War veteran who aspires to one day become a member of the Light. He possesses a large array of weapons, a Healing Factor, training in multiple martial arts, and decades of experience. Deathstroke becomes interested in Krieg and hopes to one day make him his apprentice.
  • Ambition Is Evil: He hopes to one day become more than just an enforcer of the Light.
  • Brutal Honesty: Freely admits that he was never cut out to be a parent, though he did try, nevertheless.
  • Enemy Mine: He aids Krieg in defending Los Angeles.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: He can read Krieg like an open book.
  • Knight Templar Parent: He briefly considers castrating Krieg when his daughter, Rose, develops a crush on the boy.
  • Foil: He's the polar opposite of Sportsmaster. Deathstroke can handle Krieg with little trouble, whereas Sportsmaster has only ever been humiliated by the teenage soldier; Sportsmaster is an utterly terrible parent, while Deathstroke—though hardly "Dad of the Year"—tries to build some rapport with his kids; and Deathstroke is moderately superhuman while Sportsmaster isn't.
  • One-Man Army: He can slaughter mooks just as easily as Krieg, and even Metas tend to be no match for him.
  • Secret Test of Character: He puts Krieg through several of these to see if he's as ruthless as he claims to be. So far, Krieg has passed every single one.
  • So Proud of You: He is positively ecstatic when Krieg executes a handful of cultists on live television.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Deathstroke is very interested in Krieg.
    Ravager
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosewilsonravager.png
Deathstroke's daughter, and basically a mini-version of him, albeit more excitable. Every bit as interested in Krieg as her old man, albeit for different reasons.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: She's not unattractive, but Krieg's hormones were beaten out of him years ago, so he just sees her as another criminal and treats her with contempt.
  • Blood Knight: She seems to gain sexual pleasure from combat.
  • Cain and Abel: Her supposedly dead brother, Jericho, serves the Chaos Gods.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: She enjoys shedding blood, but gets excited when receiving damage, too.
  • Dark Action Girl: A highly skilled assassin with years of training, experience, and kills under her belt. Even Sportsmaster would rather bolt than pick a fight with her.
  • Enemy Mine: During the Chaos invasion, she practically skips over to Los Angeles to aid Krieg in its defense.
  • The Glomp: How she introduces herself to Krieg during their second encounter, to his confusion and anger.
  • Forceful Kiss: Smashes her lips against Krieg's after defeating him in their second encounter.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: She really enjoys seeing Krieg kill people.
  • Interplay of Sex and Violence: She often flip-flops between beating the hell out of Krieg and flirting with him. She even expresses a desire to rape him at one point. Krieg reacts with total confusion, which only fuels her lust.
  • Smarter Than You Look: She seems rather flighty at first glance, but she's very observant.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Her father's interest in Krieg piques her curiosity, and after meeting the boy herself, she develops an entirely different interest in him (see below).
  • Villainous Crush: Has a massive one on Krieg.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Sees herself as being in a Dating Catwoman relationship with Krieg. She fails to realize (or simply doesn't care) that he feels no attraction towards her in the slightest.
    Mercy Graves
Luthor's loyal attendant. After a disastrous encounter with a drug lord necessitates the amputation of her right arm by Krieg, she gets a replacement that conceals a powerful hand cannon.
  • Ambiguously Human: Averted. She's unquestionably human in this story.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Krieg is forced to amputate her right arm after it is crushed under a pile of rubble.
  • Battle Butler: She becomes this after being outfitted with an automail arm.
  • Bodyguard Babes: She's Luthor's bodyguard, and certainly easy on the eyes.
  • Dark Action Girl: She works for Luthor, and more than capable of overpowering multiple enemies at once.
  • The Dragon: Mercy is Luthor's top enforcer.
  • Hand Cannon: Gains one as a replacement for her lost arm.
  • Not So Stoic: She looks visibly frightened when Krieg tells her that he'll have to cut off her arm to save her life.
  • The Quiet One: She doesn't talk, although she did give several muffled screams when Krieg amputated her arm, proving that she does have a voice.
  • Undying Loyalty: She is completely loyal to Luthor.

The Forces Of Chaos

Chaos Space Marines

    In General
A group of rogue Space Marines from the World Bearers, each of whom, sans Markoth, serves one specific Chaos god. They are the overall commanders of the Chaos forces threatening Earth.
  • Large and in Charge: They tower over regular humans.
  • Pitiful Worms: They regard their recruits as little more than fodder, though some are given a level of investment.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: They hate each other, and are only (barely) kept in line by Markoth's power.
  • Underestimating Badassery:
    • They dismiss the Joker as a threat, unaware that he has the favor of their gods because he understands what they want.
    • They are also dismissive of Earth's defenders, and are annoyed when they don't just roll over and die.
    Markoth
    Azkillon
A servant of Tzeench and the first Chaos Space Marine to come to Earth after being summoned by Adrian Forge. He serves as the main recruiter of the group and hungers to usurp Markoth.
  • Ambition Is Evil: He seeks to dispose of his colleagues and take all the spoils for himself.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: Circe's skimpy outfit and curvaceous body do not arouse him.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He's very good at getting others to do his bidding, with his manipulating Katana being a particularly notable (and cruel) example.
  • Mouth of Sauron: He's the main recruiter and messenger for the group.
  • We Have Reserves: Casualties mean nothing to him.
    Saareban
A Chaos Space Marine of the World Eaters.
  • Blood Knight: As a servant of Khorne, this is a given.
  • Dual Wielding: He wields a pair of chain-axes.
  • Evil Is Hammy: "SLAUGHTER THEM!!!"
  • Evil Is Petty: He screws up Azkillon's plans for Mia Dearden for the heck of it, though admittedly, she had been claimed by Khorne, anyway.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: He simply orders his forces to charge against the Amazons.
    Gorm
    Kadesh

Servants of Chaos

WARNING: SOME CHARACTER IDENTITIES ARE SPOILERS HERE, AND THEY WILL BE UNMARKED!
    Scandal Savage
Vandal Savage's daughter, who, like him, possesses a Healing Factor that renders her functionally immortal. She bears an intense grudge against her father for killing her lover, Knockout, to secure his alliance with Darkseid (Knockout's former master). So great is her hatred that she is perfectly willing to pledge allegiance to Chaos to get her revenge, consequences be damned.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: To her father, Vandal Savage.
  • Brainy Brunette: She's got dark brown hair and is pretty smart.
  • Butch Lesbian: True to the comics, Scandal is a tomboy and openly gay.
  • Determinator: She will stop at nothing to see everything her father built crumble to dust.
  • Evil Is Petty: Her anger towards her dad is understandable, but she's willing to let her home planet and her species face total destruction to get her revenge.
  • Immortal Immaturity: She's immortal like her dad, and is essentially throwing a tantrum because he killed her girlfriend. She has every right to be mad at him, but her means of achieving her revenge are way beyond justified.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: She is obsessed with avenging Knockout's death.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: She's not one for playing with her food before eating it, and strongly discourages her colleagues from doing it.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: As said under Immortal Immaturity, she is basically throwing a tantrum at her father and has been shown childishly taunting Black Spider for no other reason other than she could.
  • The Quisling: She will happily sell out her species if it means humbling and killing her dad.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Some of her colleagues suggested taking control of her father's organization, but she hates him so damned much that she insists on destroying it instead.
  • Troll: She mercilessly rubs it in Black Spider's face that he's not as tough as he thinks, and he can't do shit about it because they both know he's no match for her.
  • You Just Told Me: She tricks one of Ra's al Ghul's servants into revealing her father's location by casually mentioning its existence, causing the servant's eye to twitch.
    The Joker
The Clown Prince of Crime and Arch-Enemy of Batman. Considering his own chaotic mindset, it is hardly surprising that the forces of Chaos would seek him out.
  • Acid Attack: He uses acid concealed in a fake flower on his suit to kill Anarky.
  • Ascended Extra: He's only made two appearances in the parent series so far. Here, he's a major antagonist.
  • Ax-Crazy: It's the Joker. What did you expect?
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: He subjects Krieg to this.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: He's not impressed to discover that most other servants of Chaos just want to obtain wealth and power for themselves.
  • Eviler than Thou: He declares most of his "colleagues" to be nothing more than power-mongers who use chaos as a means to an end, whereas he sees chaos as the end goal. The Chaos Gods agree and make no attempts to hinder him.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: He quickly figures out that most of his erstwhile allies just want to attain power for themselves—and that they see him and other villains as a means to that end.
  • For the Evulz: The Joker is entirely without ambition, viewing chaos and destruction as end goals in and of themselves. It's why he betrays Azkillon and his ilk, with the full connivance of the Chaos Gods.
  • Monster Clown: The most famous example of this.
  • Not Afraid to Die: He laughs when Krieg attempts to finish him off.
  • Not What I Signed Up For: He joined up with Azkillon to increase the amount of mayhem he can unleash, not to serve as a pawn in a power-play.
  • Refuge in Audacity: He kills a Chaos spokesman in front of a massive audience of cultists, then delivers a speech that gets them on his side.
  • Sadist: He likes to draw out his victims' suffering.
    Mia Dearden
A teenage girl from Star City who wished to become Green Arrow's sidekick to make her life more fulfilling after being diagnosed with HIV. Green Arrow's spurning of her offer and ultimately sending her to an insane asylum after she tries to kill Artemis in a fit of jealous rage cause Mia to eventually become a Khornate, determined to drown everything in blood.
  • And Show It to You: She rips her therapist's lungs out and pins them to her shoulders.
  • Ax-Crazy: Mia already had a fiery temper before she became a Khornate. Afterwards, she spends every waking moment looking for someone to kill.
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: After becoming a follower if Khorne, she is almost always covered in blood.
  • Chainsaw Good: Her chainswords are her primary weapons.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's a capable fighter, and a rage-fuelled berserker.
  • Dual Wielding: She carries a pair of chainswords.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Her being HIV-positive means she'll either die before she's 30 or will have to spend her later years munching on pills, so she tried to be a hero in the hopes of doing something meaningful before her body gave out. Too bad Green Arrow wasn't interested.
  • Off with His Head!: She gains a taste for tearing heads off with her bare hands.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Green Arrow arresting her and having her committed causes Mia to finally snap.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She goes from being used as live bait by Krieg to taking on Green Arrow and Black Canary at the same time and forcing them to retreat.
