    Preta de Souza
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1_776.jpg
Played By: Taís Araújo

  • Mama Bear: Don't you dare hurt her son.
  • Maternity Crisis: She finds herself having to give birth to Raí in a tourism bus, partly due to the hospital's services being too expensive for her to afford.
  • Motor Mouth: She gets very chatty when she and Paco have their first conversation.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: Under the impression that Paco has died in the helicopter crash, she spends the following eight years believing Raí was a "gift" Paco left her before his presumed passing.

    Paco Lambertini

  • Driven to Suicide: When he finds out Bárbara is having an affair with Kaíke, and is led to believe Preta slept with another man as well. However, he manages to survive, due to Ulisses being there to rescue him.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Isn't too proud of the fact that he was raised in a wealthy family, most of all given how vastly different his views of the world are from those of his father Afonso.
  • Separated at Birth: He and Apolo were raised separately due to Germana's dread that Afonso could want to take both twins for himself if he found out about them.
  • Soapbox Sadie: Early on, he leads a crowd protesting against the deforestation of a protected area at his own father's hands.

    Apolo Sardinha

  • Disproportionate Retribution: Tina breaking up with him in favor of Thor gets him so upset that he decides to leave Rio and travel the world with Ulisses.
  • Dumb Jock: Arguably, though very little of it is seen.
  • Put on a Bus: He's presumed dead for most of the story, getting shot by smugglers and lost at sea. Thankfully, the bus does come back in the finale, as it's revealed he was stranded in an island all along.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Named after Apollo, Greek god of the sun.
  • Separated at Birth: He and Paco were raised separately due to Germana's dread that Afonso could want to take both twins for himself if he found out about them.

    Bárbara Campos Sodré
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4_17.jpg

  • Abusive Parents: She treats her son Otávio horribly, only seeing him as a mean to an end. She's utterly cold to him from the moment she gives birth to him, and early in the second phase, it gets to the point of her threatening to have him shipped off to Switzerland.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Bárbara's life becomes this when she is forced to marry the cruel Tony after he finds out all her secrets. He abuses her verbally and physically often.
  • Beneath the Mask: Deep down, Bárbara really loves Paco. Money is just a bonus.
  • Big Bad: Of the first half of the telenovela, before Tony is introduced.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: She doesn't sport her iconic spiky 'do until after marrying Tony.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: She makes no secret of her distaste towards black people, and is constantly throwing derogatory slurs at Preta and Raí.

    Tony Peixoto de Almeida
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5_63.jpg
Played By: Guilherme Weber

  • Big Bad: Of the second half of the telenovela.

    Pai Helinho
Played by: Matheus Nachtergaele

  • All Love Is Unrequited: During the second phase of the novela, Helinho falls in love with a beautiful widow named Tancinha, who comes to him in order to make contact with her deceased husband.
  • Dead Person Conversation: While working as a "pai de santo", he pretends to have the ghosts of his clients' deceased loved ones incorporate in his body to communicate with them. At first, it seems to just be pretend, although it is suspicious that he just so happens to give his clients exactly the right information they need. And then Tancinha comes along...
  • True Companions: Preta's closest, most loyal, and most cherished friend, and Raí's godfather.

    Moa Mattar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6_28.jpg
Played By: Alinne Moraes

  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Her boyfriend Pedro died smashing his head against some rocks while surfing a dangerous tide. Moa deeply regrets that she couldn't save him, and initially believed she could never step into the ocean again, but decided to go back to surfing in order to show she's not afraid of the ocean.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Due to being a surfer, she's often found wearing bikinis or shorts.

    Afonso Lambertini
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7_41.jpg
Played By: Lima Duarte

  • Rags to Riches: It's often brought up that he came from a poor background.

    Edilásia "Mamuska" Sardinha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8_23.jpg
Played By: Rosi Campos

  • Mama Bear: And how. She's very strict when it comes to her siblings' behavior, but cares for them deeply and becomes profoundly concerned when she's at risk of losing any of them, such as when Apolo and Ulisses decide to sail away, or when Abelardo threatens to throw himself off an imitation Eiffel Tower construction after his brothers crash the make-up contest he was taking part in. On a more serious note, Paco's disappearance and presumed death also affect her personally, due to him also being her son.
  • Second Love: Having long since been widowed, she's able to find love again in the surfer Frazão.
  • True Companions: Has a close friendship with Germana, Afonso's governess. It stems from way before the events of the story, back when Edilásia worked as a maid in the Lambertini manor.

    Ulisses Sardinha
Played By: Leonardo Brício

The second eldest of the Sardinha brothers.

    Thor Sardinha
Played By: Cauã Reymond

The third eldest of the Sardinha brothers.

    Dionísio Sardinha
Played By: Pedro Neschling

The fourth eldest of the Sardinha brothers.

  • Dumb Jock: Arguably the most dim-witted of the brothers, usually following Thor around and repeating whatever he says.
  • Potty Emergency: When he and Thor challenge each other to a wrestling match for Tina's affections, Dionísio decides to brew the "special soup" the brothers take before each match himself, with a little help from Abelardo. The only problem is that he gets the recipe wrong, so during the match, he starts feeling a severe stomach ache (the side effect of not following the soup ritual properly) and rushes away from the mat to the first toilet he can find.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Named after Dionysius, Greek god of wine and festivity.

    Abelardo Sardinha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9_406.jpg
Played By: Caio Blat
The youngest son of Edilásia, and the only one who has no interest in fighting (although he knows how to defend himself), and prefers to be a make-up artist.

    Tina Fuchs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/10_84.jpg
Played By: Karina Bacchi
Employee of Edilásia's cafeteria, known as a "maria-tatame", one who only dates champion wrestlers. Initially dating Apolo, she ditches him for Thor, then ditches Thor for another wrestler named Solano, and eventually starts to pursue Abelardo when his own fighting skills become known to the public.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Tina is this for Abelardo after falling in love with him in the second half of the telenovela. She kisses him, harasses him and even forces him to have sex with her against his will.
  • Big-Breast Pride: Tina is very proud of her attributes, and when she dates Abelardo, she loves to throw his face between her breasts (he doesn't like it very much).
  • Gold Digger: Tina is a variation in that she doesn't seek money; rather, she "only dates champions", launching herself into the arms of whichever man won the latest relevant wrestling match. This is one of the reasons that prompts Apolo to leave Rio and join Ulisses in heading out into the open sea.
  • Love Triangle: Tina and the three Sardinha brothers: Thor, Dionisio and Abelardo.
  • Marshmallow Hell: When Tina and Abelardo start to "date", Tina's favorite seduction tactic is to throw his face between her huge breasts. She finds it fun, he (who is Ambiguously Gay)... not so much.
  • Ms. Fanservice: As with Moa, she's usually found wearing very skimpy clothing, due to practically all her screentime taking place in the beaches of Rio.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Tina becomes this when she falls in love with Abelardo.
  • You Can Leave Your Hat On: One night Abelardo and Tina are forced to sleep in the same room by his family. Abelardo tries to convince Tina to just sleep, and she seems to accept, even wearing a conservative robe that covers her entire body. A few minutes later, Tina gets out of bed, turns on a radio and takes off her robe in front of Abelardo, showing him that she is wearing a sexy costume and begins to perform a striptease. Abelardo is horrified, while his brothers cannot sleep with the screams that come out of the couple's room all night long.
