Main Characters

    Protagonist

  • Character Customization: You can choose to make your character high in skills but low in combat attributes, a strong fighter with few skills, or something in-between.
  • Determinator: This can apply to all the characters, but your character gets first say on what they do. Should they choose to soldier on through the mansion in order to stop the miasma and help Godo save his daughter despite everything they've faced, they're this.
  • Dialogue Tree: The player gets to choose between 2-3 responses when interacting with characters. In at least one instance, this can be used to get an alternative ending.
  • The Leader: They are the leader of amongst your school friends, and the fate of the whole party depends on their decisions.
  • Protagonist Without a Past: Subverted. All that is known is that you're a 2nd year high school student and that Daiki, Yurie, and Sachi are your friends. Everything else beyond that is unknown, but it's likely they're just an average young person.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Once you get the keys to let you escape the manor, you can do this almost any time after that.
  • Video Game Caring Potential: You have plenty of options to do this. You can choose to help Godo save Sakura and you can choose to check up on your injured/exhausted teammate from the other team. At the final battle, you can even choose to ask ahead about their condition before you start your fight. Not to mention, keeping your teammates alive and sane pays off in the end when they choose to put their trust in you, allowing all three to recover a fair amount of sanity.
  • Video Game Cruelty Potential: The protagonist can choose to ditch the game early, leaving Godo in the laboratory alone to find his daughter. They can ditch the whole team if they choose to leave while the others stay behind. They can also chastise the injured member from the other team before the final battle for being late. If you do, Daiki may call you out on it.

    Daiki

  • Big Eater: The first thing on his mind upon finally meeting the Outer God is to get the fight over with because he's hungry. And should the protagonist also say they're hungry after leaving the mansion, he will be the first to agree.
  • Blade Spam: His specialty, via Double Attack. Most Dexterity-based weapons are swords, with one of the strongest ones being the Katana. Give him that and watch the damage stack up.
  • Fragile Speedster: He can potentially deal a lot of damage with his Double Attack skill and he has the highest speed on top of it. However, his sanity level and HP are average at best.
  • Genki Guy: In many ways he's basically Yurie's male counterpart.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Downplayed. He isn't exactly a jerk, but he can be crass and quick to anger, such as how he gets annoyed with Yurie and Sachi when they decide to let the protagonist decide who gets paired with whom to investigate the opposite sides of the manor. He relents the second time you get to choose, as he realizes by that point the protagonist is reliable, and he is one of the first to offer to help Godo shut down the miasma and save his daughter. He's also the most enthusiastic about their "test of courage," (the reason why they entered the mansion in the first place) and sees these events as a way to be courageous and do the right thing.
  • Manly Tears: He gets this when Godo reunites with his daughter after the final battle.
  • Why Did It Have To Be Bugs? He has Insect Phobia, meaning he takes increased sanity loss against insects, but in exchange, is better at dodging their attacks.

    Godo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/godo.PNG
  • Abusive Parents: Godo clearly cares for his daughter, but he still neglected her for some time after his wife died, indirectly leading to Sakura's exposure to otherworldly forces, and he allowed her to be used in the research when he knew it would be risky and dangerous. And of course, when things do go to hell, he leaves her for dead in the Laboratory and returns only about a year or so later to find any remaining traces of her.
  • Apologises a Lot: This man has a hell of a lot of things to be sorry about and he knows it.
  • The Atoner: Basically his entire characterization. He wants to atone for abandoning his daughter by saving her and he wants to atone for his role in the laboratory's research by shutting down the miasma.
  • Combat Medic: Of a sort. He has access to the Pharmaceutics skill, allowing him to mix herbs to increase their healing potency.
  • Driven to Suicide: A possible fate for him if he fails to save his daughter.
  • Easily Forgiven: Only the protagonist can choose to dismiss his apologies for his role in everything. Everyone else basically gives him a pass because they just want to help Godo by that point.
  • Great Detective: He states that he is a detective hunting down a dangerous criminal, the details that he can't devulge in. As we soon find out, its alot more than that.
  • The Gunslinger: He's the only character who comes into the mansion packing a gun from the start. Makes sense considering he knew what to expect, unlike the others.
  • Haunted House Historian: He knows alot about the mansion because he used work there as a researcher.
  • Papa Wolf: Subverted. He hardly was much of one to start with, but he'll be damned if he doesn't make up for it now.
  • The Smart Guy: Shares this role with Mamoru. Being a key researcher there, of course he knows about everything going on.
  • When He Smiles: When he revives Sakura after the final battle and again in her graduation photo along with the rest of the cast.
  • Workplace-Acquired Abilities: Being a researcher, he has skills in Biology, Pharmaceutics, and even Repair, allowing him to do more damage against living creatures, mix healing herbs, and use toolboxes to fix broken doors and objects respectively. He also has Computer Literacy because of course he does.

    Mamoru
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mamoru_9.PNG
  • Creepy Good: It's possible Mamoru was already in the creepy mansion by themselves before the protagonist and their friends even got there, they're wearing weird otaku glasses, and they're generally unbothered, if not fascinated by all the threats they come across. However, they're a steadfast ally, they come with useful skills to protect the party's sanity, and they share whatever knowledge they have whenever it's relevant.
  • Mr. Exposition: Shares this role with Godo from time to time. Can also be Ms. Exposition if the protagonist is male.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: They tend to freak out the least when the Chaos Beast and the Outer God are encountered. Instead, they'll mention the need to hit up aggregate sites to reveal these creatures' existence or they'll simply repeat "Amazing" and "Interesting" over and over. They'll still take sanity damage, though.
  • Opaque Nerd Glasses: Complete with the swirls.
  • The Shrink: Mamoru is a psychologist, which is represented by their skill "Mental Recovery".
  • Sixth Ranger: Chronologically, Mamoru is the last character you meet in the game, right after Godo, making them this.
  • The Smart Guy: Or Smart Girl.
  • Squishy Wizard: Has some of the highest mental stats out of the party to make up for their low physical stats. Give Mamoru a spellbook and they'll be doing as much, if not more damage, than the rest of the group's best fighters. At least until their MP runs out.
  • The Stoic: Mamoru's expression almost never changes throughout the game. At most, they may look "slightly" disappointed. This also has an effect on gameplay, as Mamoru has the highest Sanity score.

    Sachi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sachi.PNG
  • Combat Medic: She can fight like everyone else, she's just not as good at it since her physical stats are low. She has most of her skills focused in healing as a trade-off, allowing her to use med-kits and mix herbs from the beginning. Still, she also has access to Biology, so she can deal bonus damage against living creatures.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: One of the nicest characters in the cast.
  • Nice Girl: She takes everything in stride and agrees to help Godo when he tells them why he's really there. Should the player choose to be a jerk to her if she is the injured party member on the other team, she waves it off, apologizing for slowing the others down.
  • Squishy Wizard: Shares this role with Mamoru, but has slightly weaker mental stats compared to them. Still, they're just high enough for her to equip spellbooks.
  • The Stoic: She doesn't have any horrified or exasperated expressions like you'd expect someone in her role to be. At most, she looks grimly determined when facing a grave threat, but she doesn't express much fear. Notably, she is also not afraid of insects or ghosts, the same specific groups of enemies that frighten Daiki and Yurie, respectively. Likewise, she boasts one of the highest Sanity meters out of the party, second only to Mamoru.

    Yurie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yurie.PNG
  • Action Girl: The most genuine example. Give her the Brass Knuckles and watch as she crushes just about everything in front of her that isn't a ghost.
  • The Big Girl: She's your group's best fighter, and everyone knows it.
  • Blood Knight: She loves a good fight. She even tells the Outer God that if she defeats him, that would make her the strongest in the universe.
  • Cowardly Lion: Downplayed. She has a phobia of ghosts and has the lowest sanity in the game, meaning she has the lowest tolerance for all the horrors the players can face in the mansion. She will also generally be the first to tell the player how she wants to go home or just get the hell out of whatever building they're in. Still, her phobia lets her do additional damage to ghosts if she's using the right weapon, and she still has no problem going toe-to-toe against the monsters. She may be scared, but she'll still fight.
  • Fragile Speedster: Subverted. She actually has high HP, probably the highest out of the party. But because of her low sanity, she is most prone to bouts of insanity out of everyone else, meaning if she can't kill an enemy quickly, her mind is screwed.
  • Goomba Stomp: She has the Jump skill, which has applications out of combat and in combat. In the latter case, it's implied this is what the attack basically is.
  • Signature Headgear: She wears two red hair clips.
  • Tomboy: She's the most athletic of the girls, and the rest of the cast in general. Almost all of her skills have her proficient in physical abilities.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She wears a ponytail as a part of her Tomboy personality, which helps her in fighting the horrors in the mansion.

Other Characters

    Sakura
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakura_6.PNG

  • Ambiguous Situation: Twice. Godo never knew for sure what her status was after he left the mansion and so he came back to figure this out. Moreover, Sakura's possession is barely addressed, with the characters only noting the Chaos Beast appeared to be a girl with dark hair and blue clothes and Godo replying that that sounds like his daughter. However, we never learn exactly how or why that happened, and whether or not the Chaos Beast is actually possessing her physical body, or is simply using her image to get close to potential victims.
  • Break the Cutie: Aloof father, check. Dead mom, check. Victim of suspicious research in a Mythos game, check. Miasma infection leading to possession, check.
  • Demonic Possession: It's implied that the voice that reached out to her after she had an argument with Godo is behind her current predicament.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Her "possessed" form.
  • Improbably Quick Coma Recovery: She's had to have been in a coma for at least a year by the time the protagonists manage to find her. But if you bring Godo a photograph, he can briefly get her to wake up. Defeating the final boss will help her make a full recovery immediately after.
  • Implacable Girl: If you don't manage to hide, she WILL chase you down until you're literally driven insane or until she kills you.
  • Missing Mom: Her mom, Sumire, died sometime before the game.
  • Nice Girl: She's generally this when she isn't possessed and trying to murder you.
