GDI

    Nick "Havoc" Parker

Voiced by Wally Wingert

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-CNCR_Nick_Parker_827.jpg
Affiliation: Global Defence Initiative
Rank: Captain (1995)/ Colonel-Retired (2039)
Role: GDI Commando

"Where's my medal?"

A GDI commando with a characteristically bad attitude. He is the primary character in Renegade. Before joining GDI, Parker was a US Marine who excelled in the use of high explosives. He was recruited by the GDI and cycled through special forces training before being assigned to GDI's elite "Dead-6" commando unit. Eventually, Havoc quit the unit and began operating solo, using his special forces training to fight Nod his own way. He was part of a GDI operation that uncovered and destroyed Nod's Project ReGenesis.

  • Acquainted with Emergency Services: Implied with Havoc and the Military Police, to be specific. After Havoc disobeys Locke's orders in the second mission, he returns to the carrier at the beginning of the third to find the MPs waiting for him. Based on Havoc's quote, it's not his first time dealing with them.
    Havoc: Not again...
MP: [holding out handcuffs] Sorry, Sir, the call just came in. We're to place you under arrest.
Havoc: [holding his hands out] What kept you?
  • Badass Boast: As expected of a GDI Commando. A particular good one is when he's asked by a liberated POW whether he intends to take on an entire ship by himself, to which he muses that it doesn't seem fair... maybe he'll shoot left-handed to even the odds.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome/Honor Before Reason: Captain Parker disobeys orders at least twice because civilians were in trouble. His reaction to being greeted by MPs when he returns to the carrier after the first implies he pulls off things like this all the time. And he also once decided to help a defenseless city against a Nod attack instead of retreating with Dead-6.
  • Colonel Badass: Though he was only a captain during Renegade, Nick "Havoc" Parker was ultimately promoted to colonel before his retirement, in spite of his antics on the battlefield.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Very much has a streak of this.
(Being told to rendezvous with a Mammoth Tank laying siege to a Hand of Nod) That's all I get for back up? One little tank?!
(Reacting to Raveshaw's evolution with the ReGenesis project) Well, at least he's taller.
(Responding to Dr. Pretrova's invitation to the ReGenesis project after her own evolution) Evolve me? No thanks. I like being a caveman. Looks good on you though.
  • Determinator: He wouldn't let some fanatical terrorists, mutated freaks of nature, psychos for hire, and one of the greatest Magnificent Bastard in history stop him from defeating the Brotherhood of Nod and win the war.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: By the end of Renegade, Havoc can carry about a dozen different weapons plus ammo. However, in-game, the only weapons visible on his person are the weapon he's currently carrying, and the next weapon in the numbered sequence on his back.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed:
    • When asked by a GDI POW if he's gonna fight against the whole ship's crew all by himself, Havoc casually replies, "Just don't seem fair, does it? Maybe I'll shoot left-handed."
    • At the end of the game when everyone is celebrating their victory, Havoc mutters "Could have done that left-handed."
  • I Work Alone: Nick "Havoc" Parker invokes this repeatedly. He doesn't want to work with his old team again (all soldiers equally as competent as he) to begin with. When he does meet up with them, he only goes as far as making sure they're all okay before he essentially orders them to sit around doing nothing while he retrieves the scientists all by himself (and screws this up), and then leaves them standing on the sidelines for the rest of the game.
  • Legendary in the Sequel: Come Tiberium Wars, Parker has become a fairly respected figure among GDI officers despite having long retired, with statues of him found in various Blue Zones and his exploits emulated by later generations of commandos. On the other hand, he's also gained a reputation as a loud media firebrand, lambasting GDI's leadership for cutting costs and ignoring the possibility of Kane still being out there until it's to late.
  • Military Maverick: He had an extremely bloated ego and condescending attitude, partially caused by his expertise with weaponry, physical traits and skills in warfare. He also had numerous issues with authority, especially military, which led to him being incarcerated by the GDI military police numerous times.
  • One-Man Army: The series' typical treatment of Commandos as such is highlighted in the opening mission, where a massive ambush on a recon operation prompts Locke to send backup consisting of Havoc to kill everything... and a couple unarmed engineers to repair the damage afterwards.
  • Only Sane Man: In background material for Tiberium Wars, Havoc was a staunch supporter of the notion that Kane did indeed live after being "killed" by Michael McNeil at the end of the Second Tiberium War, often urging the GDI leadership to continue an active search mission.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He heads off on a rescue mission and, even though it was successful, he spends some time in the brig because he went against orders.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Enjoys getting a rocket launcher in the training exercise, and has no problem applying C4 to everything he needs to destroy.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: When Sakura appears in a RAH-66 Comanche helicopter after she got kicked out of a plane that Havoc is hijacking, blows him a kiss, then proceeds to shoot him down.
Havoc: Yup, she's pissed. (Sakura shoots out an engine on his plane) Real pissed!

    Adam Locke

Voiced by David Lodge

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Locke_3104.jpg
Affiliation: Global Defence Initiative
Rank: Brigadier General
Role: Special Forces commanding officer

"If he survives, I'll give him a medal... then have him shot."

Havoc's commanding officer. He is chief of GDI special warfare operations, and has commanded Havoc for two years. Locke operates a group of GDI's amphibious assault ships, and constantly updates Havoc's EVA unit with mission objectives and critical commentary. Before he joined GDI, Locke was a member of the British Army and is considered somewhat of a rogue himself by his peers; he was chosen to deal with Havoc because he can tolerate a bit of insubordination by his men.

  • Military Maverick: Not to the extent Havoc is, but he lets the commando get away with a lot less lenient generals would never tolerate.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He tries to argue against immediately moving out to assist captured civilians because they don't have the manpower for a full assault and Havoc's plan would be wasting multi-million-dollar equipment on an impulse. Nevertheless, when Havoc disobeys orders and moves out on his own, Locke decides to support him in any way possible... while also having the MPs on standby to arrest him when he returns.

Lt. Adriana Maus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Maus_8015.jpg
Affiliation: Global Defence Initiative
Rank: Lieutenant
Role: General Locke's assistant

General Locke's first assistant and mission operator aboard his command ship. She is also involved in training GDI commandos in recognizing base attack alert sirens and signs of building damage through base assault simulations. She was a qualified radar and EVA unit operator, with training in the operation of the Kestrel grenade launcher, an interesting choice of weapon.

Originally serving in the United States Navy, she attained the rank of lieutenant before transferring to GDI. Among several other awards, she received the Navy Expeditionary Medal. She has found her position to be very beneficial for the Global Defense Initiative.

  • Mission Control : She also acts as Captain Nick Parker's mission control, providing updates on mission objectives, relaying Locke's orders to him and on certain occasions, coordinating Parker's efforts with local GDI forces.

    Dr. Sydney Mobius

Voiced by Leigh Allyn Baker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/SydneyM_1305.jpg
Affiliation: Global Defence Initiative
Rank: N/A
Role: Tiberium Researcher

Dr. Ignatio Mobius' daughter. She is highly intelligent and enjoys intellectual pursuits, gaining a doctorate before reaching the age of thirty. Additionally, she is highly adept at computer sciences. When the Tiberium meteorite hit, she begun research into the new mineral along with her father. Unlike him, she was more interested in using it as a weapon. She co-designed the Mobius Suit for safer research and later upgraded it.

  • Action Girl: Mostly in the multiplayer. She is one of only two people in the world with the know-how to work the Mobius Suit, and it's because of her that it has any sort of combat capability...
  • Damsel in Distress: Is this twice, first being among her father and Dr. Petrova in Nod captivity at the start of the game, manages to be rescued by Havoc while getting separated from her father, and then gets captured again when sent on recon with Havoc thanks to the Black Hand's new stealth divisions. Her father ends up getting rescued the second time around, and must be recovered once more during the last mission.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Why she is interested in weaponized Tiberium - treating the victims of Tiberium poisoning (both natural and from Nod spreading it) made her want to see the Brotherhood taste their own medicine.
  • Powered Armor: The Mobius Suit. As above, she's the one who did most of the work on converting it into a form that could be weaponized, rather than just as an observational tool for the study of Tiberium.

    Logan Sheppard

Voiced by Philip Tanzini

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Logan_9765.jpg
Affiliation: Global Defence Initiative
Rank: Lieutenant
Role: GDI Commando

Lieutenant Logan Sheppard was the son of GDI General Mark Jamison Sheppard. Logan followed in his father's footsteps and joined GDI. Given that he was the son of a general, he had to work hard to prove that he didn't get his position in the GDI due to nepotism.

He was an excellent marksman with a variety of small arms, ranging from silenced pistols to sniper rifles, a skilled saboteur and a very agile man with acrobatic skills. Unlike captain Nick Parker, Logan preferred stealth and sabotage over direct engagements, even though he was a capable foe in regular combat.

  • Veteran Instructor: However, while the protagonist was changed, Logan's character wasn't cut - instead, he serves as the instructor in the Renegade tutorial.

    Dead- 6

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-CNCR_Dead6_Emblem_3105.png
Affiliation: Global Defence Initiative
Role: GDI commando unit

A team of crack commandos and Havoc's old squadmates. They are sent on covert actions in which GDI needs to maintain plausible deniability. To that end, each of them has been listed as killed in action, hence the name "Dead-6".

The official stories are that one died in a raid on a terrorist bomb-making lab in southern Chile. Another fell during a bloody conflict while gathering intel on rival Nigerian warlords. Another was assassinated by thugs in the Balkans. Another died in Turkey; another in Australia; another in Jordan.

  • Badass Israeli: Hotwire was a member of the Israeli Mossad before joining GDI.

Nod

    Sakura Obata

Voiced by Mari Wiess

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/RenegadeSakura_9108.jpg
Affiliation: Global Defence Initiative (former)/Brotherhood of Nod
Rank: N/A
Role: Raveshaw's personal mercenary

Sakura was a mercenary who originally operated for the CIA before siding with GDI, as a member of the "Dead 6" team with Havoc. She was ambushed by Nod troops while on a mission as presumed killed, but in reality had defected to the Brotherhood, in part due to their ample bank accounts.

  • You Have Failed Me: Gets this from Raveshaw after being overpowered by Havoc during a confrontation.

    Gideon Raveshaw

Voiced by Rodger Bumpass

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Raveshaw_1157.jpg
Affiliation: Brotherhood of Nod
Rank: General
Role: Black Hand Leader

The leader and founder of the Brotherhood of Nod's elite Black Hand unit, General Raveshaw is a cold and unforgiving man. Although he is of a short stature, he possesses unmatched charisma and intelligence. His soldiers are as loyal to him, as he is to Kane. He was also put in charge of Project ReGenesis.

  • Applied Phlebotinum: As part of an experiment with Tiberium.
  • Culture Police: The role the Black Hand play.
  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: The experiment with Tiberium destroyed his charisma and intelligence, leaving only an obedient, fast and strong supersoldier behind.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Is initially the main villain of the game serving under Kane, who is busy with larger matters. Then it's revealed that Dr. Petrova is pulling the strings.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: During his boss fight, he'll grab Black Hand stealth troopers out of the air and toss their bodies at you.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His Tiberium-mutated form pretty fast and can withstand a lot of punishment and can grab Havoc by the throat and chuck him across the room like a rag doll.
  • In-Series Nickname: Havoc refers to him as "Peewee" on one occasion.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: First take a look at Raveshaw's picture, now take a look Heinrich Himmler. Also Raveshaw is the founder and leader of the Black Hand, Nod's version of State Sec, while Himmler was the founder and leader of the SS, the Nazi State Sec.
  • One-Winged Angel: When you fight him as a boss.
  • Putting on the Reich: Not only does he look like Himmler, he also dresses like him.
  • The Napoleon: He's noted for being short, though he's not as fiery tempered as a lot of others.
  • The Strategist: As part of his backstory, Raveshaw was a mercenary strategist in Africa, selling his intelligence gathering services to the highest bidder. Eventually recruited by Kane to lead Nod's espionage and sabotage branch in Tunisia, he masterminded a careful campaign to overthrow the ruling regime, leading to a revolution and establishment of a Nod puppet government, all with very limited resources.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: During his boss fight, he'll occasionally jump up into the rafters and try to do a flying body slam on top of you.

    Elena Petrova

Voiced by Lori Tritel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Petrova_8812.JPG
Affiliation: Brotherhood of Nod
Rank: N/A
Role: Tiberium researcher

"I see with One Vision, One Purpose."

The main antagonist of the game. One of the three top Tiberium scientists in the Tiberian universe, Petrova worked for GDI together with Dr. Ignatio Mobius and his daughter, Sydney, researching Tiberium and its practical applications. However, she switches sides during the course of the game, and defects to the Brotherhood, taking the position of main researcher in the Nod eugenics program, ReGenesis.

  • Amazonian Beauty: After mutating herself she becomes considerably more muscular, though it's offset by her massive arms and glowing green veins.
  • Bald of Evil: Becomes bald after mutating herself into a Super-Soldier.
  • Big Bad: Turns out to be the real head of ReGenesis, and even mutates General Raveshaw into a mindless brute.
  • Dressed All in Rubber: In her mutated form she wears a sleeveless, skintight latex bodysuit in NOD colors, complete with Cleavage Window.
  • Evil All Along: She turns out to secretly be in league with NOD, to the point of having enough authority to mutate Raveshaw into a mindless brute and take over his forces.
  • Final Boss: She's the final boss of the game, although you have a pretty lengthy Escort Mission with Sydney even after defeating her.
  • Flunky Boss: She's accompanied by several Black Hand Stealth Troopers and a few Visceroids when you fight her in the final battle.
  • Herr Doktor: She has a pronounced accent and turns out to be a Mad Scientist.
  • Mad Scientist: She's eventually revealed to be one and even experiments on herself into a super soldier.
  • One-Winged Angel: Uses a more refined version of the treatment that transformed Raveshaw on herself before you fight her, turning her into a Super-Soldier while allowing her to retain her intelligence. She's not quite the giant bruiser Raveshaw was, but can perform superhuman jumps, soaks tons of damage, has a cloaking device, and wields a Tiberium rifle.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The volt rifle stunlocks her just like any other enemy, so (assuming you've got enough ammo) once you've killed all her helpers you can just zap her to death and she'll be unable to retaliate in any way.

    Carlos Mendoza

Voiced by Gregg Berger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Mendoza_6843.jpg
Affiliation: Brotherhood of Nod/ Sword of Chagall (former)
Rank: N/A
Role: Black Hand Operative

An ex-mercenary who came to Nod after his methods became too extreme even for the extremists he was working for. He stays in General Raveshaw's employ due to the amount of money he receives for his services. Mendoza has a very confident and arrogant character, often insulting his enemies during firefights and gloating.

  • The Artifact: Concept art shows that Mendoza was originally suppose to be a well-built hispanic man with tattoos and long hair (and shirtless). Eventually, Raveshaw was given a different model, and his original model was foisted onto Mendoza, which is why he looks like Seth from the original game with more facial hair.
  • Ax-Crazy: He always laughs madly and screams threats when he fights.
  • Badass Normal: He's just a normal guy with a flamethrower, yet manages to put up a decent boss fight against you, despite not being an augmented Super-Soldier like Raveshaw or Petrova or piloting an advanced prototype vehicle like Sakura.
  • Deathby Irony: He meets his end after his flamethrower tanks explode during a final battle with Havoc.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He was thrown out of a Colombian separatist movement called Sword of Chagall because he was too sadistic for their tastes. Even now, Nod soldiers are wary of him, viewed him as a savage betraying the ways of Nod. Ironically, he himself has a moment of this as well, as when Raveshaw orders him to kill Sakura alongside Parker and Sydney, he visibly hesitates for a moment before opening fire on them.
  • Kill It with Fire: He is extremely proficient with flamethrowers, and uses them along with the flame tanks without any fire-retardant suits.
