The Bergson Family

First Generation

    Grandma Margaret
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She sacrifices herself to protect her daughter in-law, Mary, pregnant with her grandchild, from the Corruption.
  • Second Love: She was Adam's second wife after Rebecca died from the Black Fever.

    Grandpa Adam
  • Posthumous Character: His journals are found throughout the game...and they may not be so posthumous, hinting he may still be alive.

    Rebecca

Second Generation

    John
  • Ancestral Weapon: He carries his father Adam's sword and shield against the Corruption.
  • Happily Married: Multiple events around the house show that he and Mary are still very much in love.
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: His primary weapon is a sword and shield, representing his ability to protect his family.
  • Mighty Glacier: He has only one dash charge but makes up for it by having high HP pools.
  • Papa Wolf: John is presented as being protective of his family. Best exemplified when he shatters the sacrificial altar of Ou to protect his baby daughter, Hope.

    Uncle Ben
  • The Alcoholic: His drinking was reason he drove away his former lover, Sheila. It's when Joey shows up at the Bergson house that he gives up the booze when he learns he's his son.
  • The Blacksmith: He's the one who helps improve the family's gear.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's unable to fight due to a Game-Breaking Injury, so he improves the Bergsons' stats.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After Grandma Margaret's death, he hits the sauce hard.

    Mary
  • Damsel in Distress: After unlocking the last Book of Rea upgrade, the Corruption kidnaps Mary from the Bergson home and the family storms the forest to rescue her.
  • Imperiled in Pregnancy: Soon as she's cured of her fever, she goes into labor, and then the Mountain God Ou barges into the Bergson House demanding her newborn daughter's sacrifice.
  • Retired Badass: She used to be a fighter like John but has settled into being the mother of her children. The current crisis also has her heavily pregnant.

    Sheila

Third Generation

    Mark
  • Awful Truth: After Grandma Margaret's death, him discovering that the only way to stop the Corruption is to sacrifice a newborn is this, especially with his mother pregnant with his future sibling.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: He fights with his fists, meaning he has to get up close.
  • Friendly Rivalry: An event at the house after Joey arrives states that the two of them settle into this dynamic with each other.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: He and Apan establish one as fellow monks, with him being a young student to her old master.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Scourging Whip pulls in enemies and stuns them, with more points leaving them stunned longer.

    Kevin
  • Critical Hit Class: His skills are made for bumping up how much critical damage he can do with his Level 4 and 20 Family Skills increasing critical damage.
  • Flechette Storm: Fan of Knives allows him to throw knives in all directions.
  • Glass Cannon: He deals high speed critical damage but he has low HP. He makes up for it by having three dashes.

    Lucy
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She's the youngest of the playable Bergsons until her little sister Hope is born.
  • Black Magician Girl: Her skills would not be out of place in a Final Fantasy game.
  • Blow You Away: Cyclone lets her spam tornadoes as long as she has stamina. Runes can also add in mini-tornadoes or fire whirls that shoot sidewinders.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: She tends to live in her own fantasy land, even after joining the party.
  • Decoy Getaway: Decoy allows her to drop a clone that makes every monster attack it for a few seconds while she takes potshots at them, and also let a partner join in the slaughter. Runes can also explode after cooldown, slow them down or explode. Level 14 allows other Bergsons to drop a Decoy after dashing from an attack.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Her eyes glow a burning yellow in her Guardian Rage as she burns anything that isn't her family to cinders.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: She names the Bergson wolf, Ryker.
  • Kill It with Fire: She attacks with fireballs.
  • Power Floats: She does this in her Guardian Rage.
  • Squishy Wizard: Being a child and a mage makes her this trope, having the smallest health pool.

    Cousin Joey
  • The Big Guy: He's the biggest and strongest of the Bergsons.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Exploding Vengeance makes anything he kills during Vengeance.
  • Ground Pound: Smite has him smack the ground, dealing damage to everything around him.
  • Healing Shiv: More like Healing Hammer! Soothing Whirlwind heals him for each hit Whirlwind makes, especially if he gets into a cluster of monsters.
  • Luke, You Are My Father: It's clear that Ben didn't know he had a son until Joey showed up at the Bergson's home and confirmed it.
  • Spin Attack: Whirlwind has him spin himself around smacking everything around him with his hammer.

Outsiders

    Apan
  • Combat Medic: Her playstyle is primarily centered around generating shields for her and her allies.
  • Sixth Ranger: Seventh really. She appears after Joey becomes part of the Bergsons, and added on an update.

Spirits of Rea

     Anai-Dya

    Anai-Raha

    Anai-Sarava

The Gods

    Rea

    Ou, the Mountain God
  • Big Bad: The one responsible for the spread of the Corruption.
  • Driven by Envy: The whole reason he started unleashing the Corruption was because he didn't like the attention his love was giving to their daughter instead of him.
  • Evil Is Petty: The reason Ou does everything he does is because he felt envious of the attention his love was giving to their daughter instead of him.
  • Freudian Excuse: Not explored in detail, but implied. It's suggested that he travelled alone for a very long time, and became incredibly fearful of returning to that. When he felt Rea-Dana was paying more attention to their daughter than him, he lashed out.
  • Hates Being Alone: His Fatal Flaw. If he feels he risks being alone again, he lashes out.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He has a condition for stopping the flow of the Corruption, but it's not an easy one for the Bergson's to stomach. Sacrifice a newly born baby of their family to him. It's stated that he does this every 300 years.
