"I told you so. Do not underestimate the power of my bloodline!!"

Simon's grandson, a prodigious warrior who inherits the Vampire Killer in his mere teens. Juste is unique in that he has a lot of the Belnades blood in him, making him a Magic Knight. For some reason, he likes decorating rooms. He is best buds with swordsman Maxim Kischine and is the lover of Lydie Erlanger. At one point, Lydie vanishes, Dracula's castle rises, and Maxim leads him there (acting a bit strange in the meantime). Juste investigates the castle, finding out that Maxim is being possessed, and ends up repeating Simon's feat of gathering Dracula's parts and reviving him only to destroy him again. Juste saves Lydie and Maxim, and it's all good.

  • Badass Longcoat: A red longcoat, which brings an interesting parallel to certain Devil Hunter
  • Barbarian Long Hair: It runs in the family. Though with his overall mid-16th century nobleman design, it's less "barbarian" and more "stylish" by now.
  • Bring It: To the Dracula Wraith just before they throw down.
Dracula Wraith: Hmmph, I'm not stable, but your blood will once again make me whole.
Juste: Take it if you can... Do not underestimate the power of Belmont...
  • Camp Straight: Decorating rooms is one of his hobbies and he has a very androgynous appearance. Even then, he is in a relationship with a girl.
  • Charged Attack: Juste can land a strong blow with the whip if he is using an item that attaches to the end of his whip that slightly detracts the whip's normal strength, but allows him to destroy walls that require a charged attack to break and to deal double damage to enemies when this attack is used.
  • Expy: Has the dubious distinction of being called "Alucard Belmont". Also the counterpart of Nathan Graves from Circle of the Moon which influenced his game.
  • Hot-Blooded: Just hear his battle cries. He even screams ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA
  • Icy Blue Eyes: They run in the family, but Juste's are especially piercing.
  • Ironic Echo: When Juste declares that the Final Boss deserves no mercy, his foe dismisses it as a 'weak threats from an unworthy opponent'. What words does Juste have for it after making good on those 'weak' threats?
Juste: Vile spawn of Maxim, you are not worthy of being my opponent.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: His wind + sacred fist spell. It is so powerful it does a significant amount of damage even to enemies who are strong against wind attacks.
  • Leitmotif: "Successor of Fate"
  • Lightning Bruiser: He runs instead of walks except in certain cutscenes or if he is cursed (which causes him to do the classic "Belmont trudge"), and has the ability to dash not just backward but also forward at a mere press of a button, making him one of the speedier and more nimble Belmonts in gameplay. As NES-era Simon is playable in Boss Rush mode, he becomes the Mighty Glacier in comparison.
  • Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: Juste's ability to damage enemies with the whip without an item that allows him to use a Charged Attack with his whip is adequate if a bit weak throughout the game. His magical attacks with the books he finds near the beginning of the game is not really worth using unless you can memorize each enemy's elemental weakness. However, books found later in the game will allow him to deal major damage to enemies.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: The Belmonts went from looking like rough barbarians to bishounen under Ayami Kojima, but Juste is perhaps the one who best embodies this.
  • Magic Knight: Has the most spells amongst the Belmonts, and he can fall back to his whip when he is out of magic.
  • Memento MacGuffin: His Bracelet.
  • Mystical White Hair: Has white hair, and it's noted that he has some magical power thanks to the Belnades blood in him.
  • Nice Guy: He is very worried for the well-being of the merchant he finds in the castle, and polite in all their interactions.
  • Power Glows: Juste's magical talent may account for the colored after-images he makes when he dashes, and he is always outlined in a glowing blue aura.
  • Red Is Heroic: Dons a red Badass Longcoat to battle the forces of evil.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Badass vampire hunter finds a rather dusty room and has some furnitures in his inventory. What does he do with it? Decorate the damn room to a stylish room, even if it's gonna go down with the castle when he's done with the master of that castle.

    Maxim Kischine

Voiced by (Japanese): Takuo Kawamura

"Tha-that bracelet... so you wore it after all..."

Juste's best friend since childhood. The two share a Friendly Rivalry, with Maxim occasionally trying to prove that he is more talented than Juste. Maxim specializes in fighting with martial arts and bladed weapons. In 1748, Maxim was possessed by the dark power of Dracula's remains and kidnapped Lydie Erlanger, his friend and Juste's lover, and brought her to Castlevania. With help from Juste, Maxim was able to keep it from completely overcoming him, until it left his body. After Juste destroyed the dark entity, he, Maxim, and Lydie escaped the castle.

  • Always Someone Better: Admits that he tried to be this to Juste, but actually felt the opposite.
Maxim: The day you inherited the title of Vampire Hunter... I felt as if a wall had been erected between us... and for that reason I set out on my expedition. I wanted to be better than you and relieve you of your fate.
  • Cool Sword: His trademark weapon, the Stellar Sword.
  • Demonic Possession: He sometimes gets possessed by the evil from Castlevania. He is trying to fight that possession, but eventually fails and becomes a Final Boss.
  • Easy Amnesia: Starts the game with no memory of the past year of his life until Lydie was kidnapped, though he says that the castle is familiar to him. As the game goes on, more and more memories start coming back to him. It turns out that it was actually his evil self that kidnapped Lydie, bringing her to Castlevania. However, since the castle was partially created from his own mind, Maxim was able to protect her by losing his memories, concealing her location from his other self.
  • Enemy Without: The Big Bad of the game is the wicked spirit possessing Maxim that was created from the evil power within Dracula’s remains and Maxim’s own repressed resentments regarding Juste and Lydie. The evil Maxim is trying to gain control over the good, and if one dies, so does the other. Castlevania being split across two dimensions reflects this duality, with the real Maxim being encountered in Castle A, while the evil version is in the more decayed and dark Castle B.
  • Evil Laugh: Not from Maxim, but rather his evil self in Castle B.
  • Expy: Of Hugh Baldwin from Circle of the Moon, a sword-wielding rival hunter who the player has to fight.
  • Fragile Speedster: Moves even faster than Juste, but while he can heal, it takes a lot of hearts, and he noticeably takes a lot more of a beating. It's just notable as Maxim is so fast.
  • Friendly Rival: To Juste, though his evil self is out-and-out hostile.
  • Heroic Willpower: This, combined with the Power of Friendship, allows Maxim to force the wicked spirit possessing him out of his body in the best ending, as long as Juste manages to collect all of Dracula's relics as well as wearing both his and Maxim's bracelets.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: If Juste goes to the final boss room in Castle A, he finds Maxim himself at the heart of the castle. Maxim is still sane, but admits that he’s reaching his limit, and asks Juste to kill him before he can be taken over by his evil self. Juste refuses, so Maxim instigates the fight himself to force Juste into killing him.
  • Leitmotif: "Theme of Maxim Kischine".
  • Memento MacGuffin: His Bracelet.
  • McNinja: He uses a large shuriken in battle, delivers quick kicks, somersaults through the air, and can even create duplicates of himself.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: According to the opening crawl, destiny dictated that Juste hunt the relics of Dracula. Wanting to free his best friend of this cursed fate, Maxim decided to gather Drac’s remains himself, except when he found them he ended up getting possessed by a wicked spirit, kidnapping Lydie, and manifesting two versions of Castlevania that Juste has to fight through in order to rescue their childhood friend and stop Maxim’s evil self from becoming Dracula reborn.
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: The only thing lacking in his wardrobe is a shirt, and his coat is open so it shows off his chest the whole time. No wonder he turned up with wounds all over.
  • Not Himself: Juste and Maxim arrive at Castlevania together at the start of the game, splitting up in order to cover more ground and find Lydie faster. Indeed, Maxim can be encountered within the castle at various points in the game— except there's something off about the way he acts towards Juste... The Maxim that acts hostile is actually the wicked spirit possessing him, and is encountered solely in Castle B, whereas the real Maxim is in Castle A.
  • Refuge in Audacity: To protect Lydie from the version of himself possessed by the evil of Dracula’s remains, as well as Death, he hid her in the throne room. When Death discovers this he can’t help but remark that Maxim is a ‘bold’ man.
  • Rival Turned Evil: Subverted. The real Maxim always remains Juste’s friend, and actively tries to protect Lydie from his evil self, and only fights Juste so that he can die at the hand of his friend.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Frequently regarded as such. The No Shirt, Long Jacket probably helps.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: Like Juste, he likes Lydie. Sadly, Lydie likes Juste.

    Lydie Erlanger
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lydie_1.jpg
Voiced by (Japanese): Sanae Kobayashi

A childhood friend of Juste and Maxim. She is kidnapped and taken to Dracula's Castle, which leads Juste and Maxim to going there in the first place.

    The Merchant
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hod_merchant.jpg
A mysterious merchant that got lost within Dracula's Castle, so set up a shop there.

  • Offscreen Teleportation: It's not clear how he gets to the rooms he sets up shop in, nor how he moves between them without Juste catching him in-between.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In the ending, after Dracula's Castle is destroyed, he isn't seen.

    Dracula Wraith
Voiced by (Japanese): Takuo Kawamura

A being born of Dracula's remains and the evil soul that was created inside of Maxim Kischine after he came in contact with them.

For the Dracula himself, see Castlevania – Dracula.

  • Body Horror: His final form is a hideous mashup of Dracula's remains, which looks like a giant skull with one eye, tentacles, and other organs stuffed into it.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: A variation, since he is not Dracula, but is essentially a clone, but he still hijacks the main plot anyway.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Being a ghost of Dracula with all of his power, but not being him, makes him this.
  • Not Me This Time: He is not Dracula, only the spiritual embodiment of his power.
  • One-Winged Angel: Takes on the form of an amalgamation of all of the remains.
  • True Final Boss: But only if certain items are obtained and worn.
